The version I saw recently on HBO was in another language. So I had to spend a couple hours reading captions. And that makes it hard to evaluate the acting.
This is definitely one of my favorite period films - I don't normally like watching movies where I end up reading the subtitles, but this changed it and made me watch the whole damn thing.
Except it was a real life thriller and horror film. If you read the book which is much more detailed, the reality is much worse than what was shown here. It goes into the young queen's imprisonment and how she never saw her children again. How she left them a beautiful letter. How she died young......how the family who sent her to that hell hole wouldn't help her during her marriage or her imprisonment.
MrVmBear He didn’t make the town. He just changed it’s name to Christiania, before we changed it back to Oslo again after the union. There has been a city there since the Viking era. After the union between Norway and Denmark, Oslo was appointed as the capital city. I’m seven years late, but but worth mentioning.
I'm trying to figure out how someone from the UK would end up as the Queen of Denmark and then fall in love with someone who probably spoke German. How many languages did the real queen speak ?
in the late 1700'er only regular people spoke danish. The royals and upper-class people spoke german and french as cultivated people in most of Europe. Also have in mind, that Denmark was much bigger at this time including Schleswig-Holstein - reaching all the way to Hamburg; hence, 40% of the citizen was german-speaking. Struensee himself was from Altona, a danish city with german-speaking population just outside of Hamburg. Denmark lost Schleswig-Holstein in the 1864 war with Preussen.
Both of her parents were German so she probably spoke German, though her father died before she was born. He was the Prince of Wales, heir apparent to King George II, her grandfather. Once he passed, Caroline's 11-year-old brother, George, became the heir apparent, Prince of Wales, later becoming King George III. He probably saved her life as once the scandals broke the Danes probably would have executed her but he sent some warships to the coast of Denmark so they worked out an exile plan for her.
Notarn Pandaboy I guess Germany is rather the big player in this Movie. Imagine what Denmark would probably be like if he wasn't there. It could be just like North Korea, China..etc
The narrator ? Was there an English translator in the version you saw ? I had to read captions because the version I saw was not in English. WRZ 2021-12-15
The acting from the 3 main characters in this is simple incredible. One of the most well acted films I've ever seen. And just brilliant in general.

I assume this doesn’t have a happy ending…will I watch it anyway? Absolutely I will!
You can tell almost from the start that it's going to end badly. It's rivetingly good.
This was such a fantastic movie....I LOVED it
I like how they almost try to make this feel like a thriller or pseudo horror film... when its actually really not. xD
Great movie though.

Interesting, don't the Scandinavian countries each have their own native language ?
@@ccdogpark I’m not an expert, but if I’m not mistalen then at the time when the movie’s events took place the danish court spoke german and french

I wish it was in English and I wish they had British accents.
Why? Would be kinda weird lol
Why? This is based off danish history, it wouldn't make sense for them to talk English or have British accents
What a rotten idea.
Learn to read and educate yourself
Americans and British just don't know to read subtitles
👍
5 bucks it's gonna suck
can i get the 5 bucks now or?
I promise you it's a fantastic movie
Too bad it's not in English.
