    This eye opening on so many levels, I can completely relate to this. This has happened to me on a couple occasions, especially when someone is hot and cold with me, showing interest then pulling back. Although seemingly harmless I realize that watching their social media or rereading texts to get a different perspective is stalking. I struggle with rejection starting with my parents so this strikes a cord. So I have to take control and cut off communication for my own peace of mind and sanity.

      Rereading texts that someone sent you is stalking? I think your being to hard on yourself.

    I love that you're putting out information that's not behind a paywall, to help people. It's super cool, thanks.

    Thank you so much for this video. I use to be a stalker and all it takes is that one person to break you. I had to find my triggers and a good therapist.

    Im actually happy I subbed long ago and you made this video now....There was someone I was very briefly "dating" and they were not seeking commitment. long story short we stopped communicating and seeing eachother based off that and him lying about having a son. ugh its been months and i still find myself stalking his instagram to see what hes doing or if hes out with another girl even though i know its over.......what is wrong with me? :(

      I don’t remember seeing you in the past so welcome!
      I hope to explain why these behaviors happen and possibly answer your question more in the video. There are so many reasons why you are doing this. Sometimes it's just pure curiosity.
      Your analysis of yourself may also be true for a lot of people

    LOL people shouldn’t do it but the laws for stalking are weak. Similar to restraining orders. Crazy people don’t care about what’s right but what will get them caught and in trouble. What I suggest to everyone - Fix the laws. Till then nothing will really change.

      I had a stalker in high school. So I had the pleasures of learning how weak are laws are.

    I would love to try that style of therapy and never heard of it until this. Existential?

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  2 года назад +2

      A lot of people havent'! Existential psychotherapy isn't something most therapists advertise unless they are, like myself, a trauma or humanistic therapist. This means that we focus a lot on "human condition" and the pains of life as well as mental health and trauma. We really look at life in a holistic way rather than making everything an "illness" and giving it a label. Sometimes we just need help managing life - not a mental disorder. This is not to downplay mental illness, however. I am just trying to put it in its proper place. If you ever want to learn more about this approach, ask a trauma therapist if they provide this kind of counseling. You may also like the book Man's Search For Meaning which is very existential.

    Is this also linked to some mental illness ?!

      It can be for some people, yes. Severe depression and anxiety can lead to negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are behind the behaviore of stalking. OCD can turn in to obsessions about a particular person. Anger, resentment, and jealousy can lead to this.

      I'm sorry. That's tough. Sounds like she may benefit from psychotherapy to help her explore her emotions.

    Truly sad and pathetic 😂

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  2 года назад +10

      It is sad. Pathetic...a little harsh. Some people don't see themselves well enough to stop the behaviors. Others do it because they want what they want. The latter needs insight and possibly help.

      A lot of people internet stalk. It’s extremely common. Especially among younger people who haven’t fully grasped their emotions yet. It’s not sad or pathetic

      @@TherapistTamaraHill Lol when I first saw my comment on the thumbnail I was taken aback but maybe we can start a support group in the comment section for people who might have obsessive and/or stalkerish tendencies. I think that the way people interact with social media can create normalized forms of obsessiveness and mild stalking behavior.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  2 года назад +3

      @ImaniCulver I figured! That can happen sometimes when content creators pull comments from the comments section. Because of the sensitivity of this channel and the things that are shared, I try to only use comments that do not reveal too much information. If you look back over some of my videos you'll see it's a pattern! I pull comments.
      You are right that the perception is that stalking is abnormal or uncommon. But the reality is that it is not. It's not a healthy form of behavior, however. And it can lead to many legal issues down the road. So education is key! Stay tuned.
