I assume that in the next 8 or so years, AI comics will become the last nail in the coffin of the comics industry, at least the mainstream ones. Big publishers will not give up on repeatedly reducing the cost of production, and repeatedly increasing the speed just because "true connoisseurs" do not consider it pure art, if something big and loud do not happen that will force them to give up. That's how capitalism works. This will lead to that manual labor will become many times more expensive and will become a separate niche for hardcore readers. Same with books, and sadly videogames.

I'm hoping you are completely wrong. Hoping.
I did have a part in the original script about how the publishers would jump at the chance to cut costs if it brought short term profit. I cut it mainly because it felt like I was getting up on my soap box and I didn't want to be too doom and gloom, but I think you're right. Hopefully a bit of backlash might stall what feels inevitable though
      Thanks for stopping by!

It will become more expensive? How?
There will be more artists looking for work. Supply and demand. It will look like the stereotype outside of a Home Depot, but with artists.

I feel like widespread use of AI would lead to a sort of loss of individuality in comics, books, and art in general. I would be pretty disappointed, because I love seeing people's real vision put out there without being filtered through AI. That's why I like indie comics so much.

Absolutely. I'm hoping it won't happen but I'm also worried we will get to a point where it will be hard to tell.
Great name by the way and thanks for stopping by!

If anything and I think it's just a matter of time for big publishers to do use AI, would be that the industry would just reveal a big part that we have been blind to, or not wanting to address. The sales department know that what keeps single issue sales is mostly the collector market and in particular speculators that keep reselling for possible characters coming up in media (that's an industry of itself). Editors and creators are aware too but may be coping on this fact not being true to reality all that much. Since this type of market is what drives the day-to-day, people only care about having a complete run when it comes to the single issue sales that I think it has been proven to this day that it doesn't matter what happens on the pages, so long as I have the run complete or the cover that I want, I will keep buying.
To that effect, if AI is used, there's a significant portion that will still be there buying comics for the single issue part of the industry. As for the grandscheme, I'm not sure if the collected editions rival or compare but I would certainly say that these are on the rise of popularity. More and more stuff from the past and of current stories is being printed in collected editions and put on a different avenue such as bookstores, online shops etc. Because of this, I think there's still the genuine interest of people in reading comics and I also believe that as much as AI can have it's advantages, the bottom line is that people would not want to read comics on AI and rather see something made by a human. As advanced as it may be, i think it would still be a novel thing to glance at much like how we see other animals paint. It's impressive on principle but we like to experience art from other humans because we are empathetic to the experiences of other people and not other animals or machines.

It wouldn't surprise me if the big publishers were doing some cost/benefit analysis or at least exploring it. You may lose £X amount if people don't buy an AI comic, but then is that offset by the amount saved on not paying writers/artists.
You're definitely right, there's definitely a curiosity side to things but I also hope you're right about that human connection shining through. I guess we will have to wait and see!
      Thanks for watching!

Yeah there's a line where you cross from help to just having ai do it for you. I don't know where that line is though.
      Thanks for watching!
