This is one of my favorite Robert Burns songs in a heartfelt and moving version!!! It moves me every time I play this video. I feel so sad that I never got to see Andy M. Stewart in person. However, this RUclips video is a consolation. A wonderful song sung by a wonderful singer!!!!
Hiya Douglas, thanks for uploading this, I'm Andys cousin my mum and Andys mum were sisters. I met your brother Martin (Mame ) about six weeks ago in Perth, he told me and my dad he'd just been scattering Andys ashes with Donald and Kathy that day. Andy loved Mame like a brother ,so it was fitting Mame should be there for the final goodbye. Thanks again for uploading the video and helping keep Andys name alive ,best regards Neily McC.
Saw Andy m Stewart at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen and one of the most memorable moments of Scottish folk music Andy was a great ambassador for Scottish music and was taken away far to young RIP
Thanks for the upload! Andy will Always be THE voice of scottish folk music for me. So sad he passed away. The Lea rig is one of my all time favourites!
Great song, great version the best, I still miss Andy M. Stewart, thanks for uploading this... and I just can't understand how can 2 people not like this song ? Where's their soul ?
I remember learning & reciting this in poem to our primary school assembly back in the early 70's, our teacher was a great admirer of Burns and we all had to choose our favourite. I always loved the words and this version in song is just perfect!
Rest in Peace, Andy your album of Burns' songs will keep you both forever connected and remain a wonderful lasting legacy for the two of you. I'll Meet Thee On The Lea Rig Robert Burns 1792 When o'er the hills the eastern star Tells baughtin time is near, my jo, And owsen frae the furrow'd fields Return sae dowf and weary O; Down by the burn, where scented birks Wi' dew are hangin clear, my jo, I'll meet thee on the lea-rig, My ain kind Dearie O. At midnight hur, in markest glen, I'd rove, and ne'er be eerie, O, If thru' that glen I gaed to thee, My ain kind Dearie O; Altho' the night were ne'er sae wild, And I were ne'er sae weary O, I'll meet thee on the lea-rig, My ain kind Dearie O. commentary by Andy M. Stewart: "I find the lyric full of a great deal of human hope and frailty There's some sort of charming naivety about the young man in that song And the sentiments he expresses I find 'the Lea Rig' is very uplifting and kind of innocent somehow" The hunter lo'es the morning sun; To rouse the mountain deer, my jo; At noon the fisher taks the glen Adown the burn to steer, my jo: Gie me the hour o' gloamin' grey, It maks my heart sae cheery O, Tae meet thee on the lea-rig, My ain kind Dearie O.
Thank you Doug for posting this touching song by Andy. I had the good fortune to see Silly Wizard just once in Rochester, NY in the early '80s and consider the show, featuring songs from "So many partings," to be the most emotional musical experiences of my life. I was able to meet all the members of the band, including your brother, Mame, and have them sign a copy of the album. I recall Mame as quiet, but friendly and all were accommodating and surprisingly humble. I would have loved to see them perform many times, but even once is something I treasure dearly. I did see Andy twice more (with Manus Lunny), but alas, never again. It is comforting to me, as I imagine it is to his sister, to hear others appreciating what Andy M. Stewart brought to this world...

At midnight hour, in mirkest glen, I'd rove, and ne'er be eerie, O, If thro' that glen I gaed to thee, My ain kind Dearie O; Altho' the night were ne'er sae wild, And I were ne'er sae weary O, I'll meet thee on the lea-rig, My ain kind Dearie O. Hi Pam - thank you for your comments. The programmes are placed in a digital archive at the radio station. I'm not sure whether I can get you a copy of the programme or not. It may be possible to burn it onto a CD for you, but there may be issues of copyright involved. I will ask at the station when I go in for tomorrow's programme, and get back to you. Best wishes.
Hi Pam - I have an MP3 CD of this for you if you can send me an address to send it to, by a private message is probably best. I hope you see this, as I can't seem to find a way to send you a private message. Hope to hear from you. Best wishes. Kenny [ Douglas ] Hadden
Thank you for this....Andy’s songs live on in this Mexican living in America with a child who is half Japanese. His music will live on! I only wish music cords, tabs, sheets and lyrics could be compiled for each of his and sillywizards songs. his lyrics were true poetry as where his versions of folk songs which are often lost to translation.
www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/help-andy-m-get-mobile-/318806 The above appeal has been posted recently on some traditional music websites. My brother played in "Silly Wizard" with Andy for 11 years, and confirms that it is a genuine appeal launched by Andy's sister Angela. If you are one of the many people who have enjoyed Andy's music over his career, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Fabulous. althoug Karine Polwart's version, pretty damn good too. the film here is wonderful except the lea rigg was the fallow strip - so no hay gathering there.
