Cialdini’s 7 principles of influence: 1. Scarcity. At the top of the list. The fear of loss or the fear of loss of opportunity is the most motivating factor in human psychology. Scarcity is more powerful than urgency 2. Consistency. People have a deep desire to remain consistent in what they do and say 3. Likability. People like people who like them (praise). People like people who are like them (similarities) 4. Reciprocity. People feel obligated to give back 5. Authority. People are much more influenced by those who have a deep understanding and a lot of experience in their craft 6. Social Proof. People are much more likely to be influenced by you if you have credible people who vouch for you 7. Unity. Shared identity or sharing membership of the same group. ‘We’ group

I read his first book 20 years ago then became a salesman I still am a salesman and will be till the day I die his work taught me more than anything else
We all can sense sincerity. You cannot fool people all the time. If their goal is to make some money off you and you realize you are being manipulated you are not going to fall for these bag of tricks.
You need to know who you are dealing with for reciprocity to apply. There are a lot of entitled and narcissistic people in society these days. In my life believing in reciprocity ended up in my getting really burned by the people I gave the most to.
This is very very good and I am a professional negotiator. The key point is the one about not dismissing your efforts. Unless you respect yourself, nobody will respect you. I used to have a lawyer come into my office and blabber on and on for 2 hrs about all sorts of things, run things by me, ask for advice, tell me what sort of day she had had, etc. I would walk into her office once in a blue moon and spent 15 mins and on leaving the office I'd say "Thanks, sorry to bug you" and her response would be "Mmmhmmmm". It became clear to me that she didn't notice that the reciprocation was greater on my part than hers, because I never valued my time the way she valued hers.
I’ve nearly finished reading “Influence” and it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. Really opened my eyes to human behaviour and why I and other people do things.
I like how Robert laughs and gets super excited about this subject even after decades of studying it. You can see his unlimited passion towards it. Super interesting and valuable information. Thank you Lewis.
I've seen a lot of videos with a lot of good content, but none of them were as PACKED with great content as this one. I took tons of notes. Came here because I searched for Robert Cialdini, and as a bonus I discovered you, Lewis. You ask great questions, and you fill in with great comments. Looking fwd to explore your other interviews. Thanks a lot for this! 😊
I had asked weeks ago about how I'd market my art so that it would sell and people would come back and my brain exploded just listening to this. I knew there was a missing piece of the marketing puzzle in my business and I believe I just got it.
Holy asking for advice instead of feedback. Everytime I ask for feedback even if I say please critique I always get positive answers. Looking forward to trying out asking for advice instead of feedback
I know what you are talking about, Jennifer. But there are give backers still out there, right? From what you're saying it sounds like you're suffering from toxic relationships. You're probably feeling more obliged than you should. And it is you and only you to choose the people you want to see around yourself. You choose what and whom to pay your attention and time to. So water the flower not the weeds like Buddhists say. Best luck! I hope you'll find your way!

I wholeheartedly tell you this!!! Your podcast makes my life better and my relationships so much richer and your transparency is very admirable and I aspire to be more and more transparent myself and have a growth mindset. Everything you share is fascinating and always just what I need to hear. I share your podcast to all my employees and friends and family. Thank you 😊
The examples cited in this video are from both sides, that's what makes this interview so fruitful if one need to learn about influence tactics. Such a huge kudos.
Your sincerity’s obvious and your interviews are always spot on. As a photographer the correct choice of words is an essential part of letting my clients know I’m here to be of service and happy to be of service.
I love how he primed or primes everybody by the books he has behind him; everything is in I think Japanese or numbers, but the only books that are in English are his persuasion book. Kudos!! I love this guy and his research!!Damn I just realized that all those books say persuasion in different languages!!!
Reciprocity is evolutionary as well - we have seen this behavior in early primates, which was baffling because it went against a self serving evolutionary drive, but realized reciprocity allowed the population to survive better rather than individuals - super fascinating
Great interview Lewis, I ve been a follower of Dr Cialdini’s work for over a decade and his strategies have had a tremendous impact on my life. Thank you

I agree, this is fascinating! I've been completely glued to this interview! I haven't watched anything this interesting in a long time. At the core of this is really about how to truly connect to people. It's so interesting how powerful this really is. Thank you both for this information! 🤗
You’re amazing, dear Lewis, what great conversation you had again! Love your work, love the people you interview! So inspiring, so fascinating! Thanks! And thanks to Robert for sharing his amazing knowledge.

Amazing interview! Thank you Lewis for investing the time and effort in creating this. I wondered if these can be applied in the job interview arena?? Thanks again xx
This is most Definitely one of my Top 3 favourite people I have seen you interview.. Dr Robert Cialdini is So incredibly Giving of his information. You can tell how passionate he is, and how much he wants to help people. And of course, the information he is passing onto us is so incredibly interesting. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏🏽 I will most definitely be buying the book
Excellent interview, I completely agree with the principle of finding and thinking the best in people you engage with. Also not repeating your techniques because processes that works great today, will not work in the future. Let your message be in consistent state of mind with the you and to who you are sending the message to. Great interview as always 👍.
This has been one of the most enlightening uploads ever, and the psychology of selling in a ideal way!! Not by using any of the techniques that we've had Used on us all.... But, the way we can help each other, as well as being honest, open and honourable! That means that we don't feel coerced, nor manipulated and that means a lot to us all, especially during these times of uncertainty... Thank you, Andrea, Jasper and George the Pigeon. XxX
Phenomenal interview!!!! I will be getting the book "Influence, New and Expanded: The Psychology of Persuasion" in a few days,.. super excited about it! Thanks a lot for sharing guys!!!
This information explains a big arguement me and my father had up until he passed away. I wish he could have seen this to understand my reasoning. To be quick with what the argument was.... He owned a sign company. I would meet a customer and find out what they wanted and say I will get back to them with an estimate. I would get back to them with the estimate but in addition I would also give them a scaled drawing showing the colors and letter style I recommended. My father would blow a gasket. He would say there gonna take our art and give it to a competitor and you just did the artwork away for free. This is my validation that my sales sense was in tune with what society installs in people. Unfortunately I had to leave the family business and open up my own sign company.. My sales on an average is approxamately 80-90 percent of estimates given with artwork before it is even signed. I didn't know this was the key factor in why my sales being were so high.
the session is so inspiring and provide values! I love the way the way Robert present things in scientific and persuasive way. I am fascinated by Lewis the interviewer, you are so naturally brend into the whole story, nice job!

The key is to be genuine …
I think you can tell when someone is just trying to mislead you… in every way…
If u are addicted to giving, it’s just part of your nature to be kind.. try it.. u will like it ..😘
I read his first book 20 years ago then became a salesman I still am a salesman and will be till the day I die his work taught me more than anything else
Cialdini has always been a gemstone of knowledge on influence.
🙌
We all can sense sincerity. You cannot fool people all the time. If their goal is to make some money off you and you realize you are being manipulated you are not going to fall for these bag of tricks.
If you like them, then you will fall for it.
You need to know who you are dealing with for reciprocity to apply. There are a lot of entitled and narcissistic people in society these days. In my life believing in reciprocity ended up in my getting really burned by the people I gave the most to.
Your correct. I experienced that too. Good thing I found the book of Robert. Now I know how to use reciprocity.
Not all lawyers - I am genuine 🧘🏾♀️

Never heard of Robert Cialdini but now I'm intrigued by him! He has lots of valid point!
His newer book pre suasion is incredible. Even having read his main books on this subject this talk was fascinating and novel.

I'm a giver, and not that many people that I've known or know actually give back. There are much more takers then give backers!!
I know what you are talking about, Jennifer. But there are give backers still out there, right?

Robert teaches how to make them give back. its rare to give back on your own however influence can drastically change your results
one that he said that i feel that you can use is in stead of saying “No problem” say “Its okay, I know youd do the same for me” it makes them more inclined to do something for you in return
That Bose ad example was brilliant ~ "Hear what you've been missing..."
