HOT FUZZ MOVIE REVIEW: 32:38 - 36:09
HOT FUZZ Movie Description:
Hotshot police officer Nicholas Angel smells foul play when the residents of a sleepy Somerset village start to die in terrible `accidents'. Something's afoot, but can he and daft local plod Danny Butterman find out what?
Hot Fuzz is a 2007 action comedy film directed by Edgar Wright. The film was written by Wright and Simon Pegg. Pegg and Nick Frost play police officers investigating a series of mysterious deaths in a West Country village. It is the second film in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy by Wright, Pegg, Frost and producer Nira Park.
Over 100 action films were used as inspiration for developing the script. Principal photography took place in Wells, Somerset - Wright's hometown. Filmed over eleven weeks in early 2006, it featured an extensive cast along with various uncredited cameos. Visual effects were developed by ten artists to expand on or add explosions, gore, and gunfire scenes. The film debuted on 14 February 2007 in the United Kingdom and 20 April in the United States, grossing US$80 million worldwide. Two different soundtracks were released in the UK and US. The film was praised by critics for its performances, direction, and humour.

I have a wonderful time watching your reactions. Might I suggest, "Mystery Men."
These times are rough on everybody Mell, you don't have to apologize to us for taking the time you need to make things you're proud of. Just keep doing you, dude.
Timothy Dalton, the actor who was Simon Skinner, was James Bond in 2 movies. The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, both are actually quite good. I'm guessing youtube has issues with Bond films since I never see people watching them but if you get a chance to watch them, they're quite good.
Please react to
Beverly Hills Cop(1984)
Beverly Hills Cop 2(1987)
Beverly Hills Cop 3(1993)
My favorite action comedies.
I haven't seen anyone really do it yet except one a year ago is react to Cannonball Run. It's a action comedy with Burt Reynolds and mamy other actors racing across the country. Even Jackie Chan was in this movie before I even knew who he was. Many cars in the movie was the first time kids like us ever seen super cars. I hope you react to this movie.
As they were writing the movie, they said they wanted to get a "Timothy Dalton type" for Skinner. At some point, one of them said "Why don't we just ask Timothy Dalton?" Dalton said yes.
Simon Pegg vs....JAMES BOND!!! XD The Epic Slug-Fest of TITANS!
@@lordzavulon666 Yup, then another in "Worlds End".
That's the same story of how Archer got a Jessica Walter Type
And the same story of how Time Bandits got Sean Connery. The script had the Greek warrior as "Sean Connery, or an actor of equal but cheaper stature".
That's something that also happend in the Scrubs casting, for Dr Cox they wanted a "John McGinley look alike" and when he went to the audition he said "you could just asked me"
Good call, the ex-girlfriend at the beginning was played by Cate Blanchett
Bout to tell him as well. Yes uncredited cameo
Also Santa was played by Peter Jackson
There's no way I would have recognized her. That's a good eye you've got.
I thought it was Kate Winslet... Nope, I'm wrong... Just looked it up.
How could you tell!
Btw, the police chase when they pulled over the actor was short for a reason. They set a record for the shortest police chase in a movie
"She look like Cate Blanchett."
Me: SHE IS CATE BLANCHETT!
The Santa that stabbed Nicholas in the hand was played by Peter Jackson.
Was gonna post that me own self. Great piece of movie trivia =)
The female cop is 2 time Queen and Oscar winner Olivia Coleman.
@@jamesanthony8438 Jim Broadbent (chief police) rang up pegg after watching Shaun of the dead and asked to be in his next film, so they wrote the character specially for Jim
"This old dude got some hands" ... That's James Bond! 😛
Have to laugh at the comment that after Shaun of the Dead and the World's End there must be some huge world ending catastrophe. Hot Fuzz- literally about the world's most petty murder spree.
There's missing persons on milk cartons throughout The Lost Boys - we don't do that in the UK otherwise this film wouldn't work.
The "homage to William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet" is hilarious because it's LITERALLY an homage to "William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet," the modern retelling that from the 90s that starred Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. Wings, gun, and that irritating song and all.
There is nothing better in this movie then them with the gun and the ridiculous costumes and that song and Pegg has that horrified face.
@@thickerconstrictor9037 tbf I’ve seen this movie at least 9 times and only realised that after reading this
Huh, never knew that!
Fun Fact: The actress playing Police Constable Doris Thatcher (Olivia Colman) went on to win an Oscar for playing the Queen in The Favourite (2018)!
She was Queen Anne in 'The Favourite' and also Queen Elizabeth II in 'The Crown'
And way better than that she was sophie in peep show.
Far better viewing.
Sez i😂
@@richthaprick1319 Peep Show is one of the greatest comedy shows ever.
Chance would be a fine thing. A fine thing indeed.
Also was Sophie on "Peep Show"and just appeared in "Mitchells VS Machines" as PAL.
Had a blast filming with you! I’ll definitely have to check out more Edgar Wright films.
Yes Man Was So Fun, Can’t Wait For What The Future Brings
I enjoyed watching you two together. Fun collaboration!
You gotta finish this 'cornetto' trilogy with "At World's End".
Yes you should. Especially Shaun of The Dead and The World's End
That jump scare reaction was amazing.
"That's a shot from shaun of the dead"
Good catch. There are a LOT of references to Edgar's other work in this. The fence scene with Pegg successfully jumping it this time, a few scenes with pegg and frost. There's actually a video breaking down all the easter eggs in this movie
When Danny is looking at the DVD "Super Cops" and chucks it down into the pile, you can actually see Shaun of the Dead but with a different title called "Zombie Island"
@@dizzyrascal5015 amazing
I grew up in the area where this movie was filmed. The scene where he throws out all the kids drinking underage is especially funny because (up until pretty recently) once your dad took you into a particular pub and bought you a pint, you were then old enough to buy yourself a drink. Hilariously the central govt. cracked down on this when I was 17 and a half, so I had to wait six months to go back to pubs that I had been been drinking at since about age 13.
EDIT: Just saw the bit where 2 people had to translate for the old man. I moved to the area when I was 8 and lived there for 18 years, but there were still some people that I just couldn't follow!
Yarp guy played The Hound in Game of Thrones
Old guy with all the guns was Walder Frey in GoT
@@southwestgrafix7155 old guy is also Filch the caretaker of Hogwarts.
The constable is the Archmaester of the Citadel.
I've never seen anyone use the concept of Chekov's Gun as good as Edgar Wright. The amount of foreshadowing and callbacks in his films are truly something worth looking out for.
He doesn't use chekov's gun. he uses chekov's gunshop
They did this in Buffy a lot.
The talent of the bad guys in this movie is of the charts, Timothy Dalton (James Bond) Edward Woodward (The TV';s Equaliser) . Also a couple of future Oscar winners as well as Jim Broadbent and Olivia Colman.
The Hound from game of Thrones and Bellok from Indiana Jones
And the "hag" is the evil devil worshiper from the original Omen. Mrs. Blalock
Edward Woodward, other than having the best name ever and being the Equaliser, also starred in The Wicker Man, about a cop who goes to a rural community where everyone is in a sinister cult. How often does a movie sneak a joke into the CASTING?
Jim Broadbent and Olivia Coleman ARE both Oscar winners...
Kenneth Cranham...The evil DR. CHANNARD from HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II and Layer Cake (2004). Stuart Townsend...JACK TRAVIS from LETHAL WEAPON 3 and DON MONTERO from THE MASK OF ZORRO.
Setting this movie in Gloucestershire, a lot of the characters have "simple" surnames indicative of professions. Blower, Staker, Merchant, Skinner, Tiller, and the like. It's a regionally accurate set of names for the English countryside.
And the production of Romeo and Juliet was a trite reproduction of the 90s 'Romeo + Juliet' starring Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, which was set in modern day LA, and featured costumes very like the ones they used. The soundtrack included the song Love Fool, which they ended with.
English villages often have a scale model village that replicates the area down to small details, as a matter of civic pride.
Sea mines are meant to detonate under water, and the pressure wave from the water is capable of devastating damage. Outside of water, they are much less effective, which (in part) explains why it didn't kill the rest of the Sandford police.
Also, Sandford is the name every UK police force uses for its training exercises, and there was a large fake "Sandford Town" training site that police forces from all over the country used to train, now closed.
@@karlbassett8485 Interesting. I didn't know that. I though it had some connection to the real village of Sandford, just 15 miles west of Wells (where Thatcher's brewery is located).
The movie wasn’t shot in Gloucestershire it was shot in Wells Somerset. It was originally supposed to be shot in the Cotswolds (Gloucestershire) but the local council saw the script very close to shooting day and didn’t want their village shot to pieces. Obviously they didn’t really understand the script.
*Mel uploads a new video*
Me: "Morning."
Also me: "Yarp!"
He was Lurch before he was The Hound (GoT)
“He lives up with his mom and his sister.” “Are they as big as he is?” “Who?” “The mom and the sister.” “Same person.”
My favorite lines from this are:
“You have a mustache.”
“Yeah, I know!”
And
“THERE WERE SKID MARKS!”
“Now who’s being childish?”
I watched this movie randomly one time without knowing much about it and that was an amazing decision. I love it
It's funny how Baz Luhrmann's Romeo+Juliet was huge when it came out in 1996 and was a pop culture staple for a long time and now I've seen 2 reactions to Hot Fuzz recently where no one got the reference. I guess it's just one of those things that everyone knew about until suddenly nobody did.

After watching this movie, it's become a thing between the hubby & I to repeat "greater good" anytime we hear someone say it.
The greater good.
Me too! 😆
Same, covid made say it quite a lot more than I did before ;)
This was the first, and only, movie I've ever seen twice in theaters. Instant classic.

"I'd probably do the same thing, I ain't wasting no drumstick"
That's a Cornetto, a popular British ice cream.
Same thing just different name.
They're called 'Drumstick' in the US, it's a brand of pre-made ice cream cone like what they were eating, and Mel is from the US so wouldn't know the British brand.
8:28 It's a swan, they are very strong, bulky and often angry. They kill 1 or 2 people (usually kids or pensioners) a year.
This movie has great action, great comedy, great horror, great suspense. A masterpiece
that's actually my favourite Edgar Wright movie!
I read that policefolks consider this to be the most accurate police movie, especially consdering that they always fill out reports after everything they do. Also compared to most cop movies, they don't really kill any of the large amount of villains ... hurt yeah, but not kill ...
The ex-girlfriend was Cate Blachett and the Santa was played by Peter Jackson
My family and I can no longer hear "the greater good" without repeating "the greater good."
👌👍
Hot Fuzz is a movie that gets better with subsequent rewatchings since Edgar Wright does an excellent job with foreshadowing and has little meta easter eggs like how the higher Angel asked to go up in seniority the higher billing the actor was.
Spot on review man, and perfect reaction. Everyone talks about "Shawn of the Dead"... but while that is great movie, hot Fuzz is SOOOO much better. The best Buddy Cop movie ever IMO!
You two together actually works really well ! .. now let’s see if other colabs work .. really hope so but I’m on the bench :) luv north east England 🏴.. sleeting .. grim :)
You Definitely Right About That
12:59 I like how he calls it a traffic collision and not a car accident. it shows he's learning from Angel and taking his job more seriously.
The Romeo & Juliet scene is a parody of the 1996 Baz Luhrmann's "modern" film adaptation "Romeo + Juliet" starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, and a buncha guns with the word "Sword" on the side.
Ha. R+J did not age well for me. Makes it even funnier to see it be the inspiration for their version here. I bust out laughing when they burst into song at the end of the play. That song was nonstop on the radio for a few months when R+J came out. One of my favorite scenes in Hot fuzz.
I was hoping you'd do this movie. The commentary track is extra good. The cast is full of veteran British actors who often have played villains. The most recognizable one is the vicar, played by Paul Freeman who was the French rival archaeologist to Indiana Jones in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. He looks pretty much the same still. But the all those old actors have incredibly impressive IMDB listings. My friends don't like this movie as much as I do. I enjoy the layers of humor and the in-jokes, and as an American, I'm sure I'm missing a lot of the nuances that make it hilarious to a Brit. If you're curious, view with the commentary track and a lot of that will be made clear. You are an excellent re-actor, sir, I've been enjoying your videos. I love having someone enjoy my favorite movies. Try 'Shaun of the Dead' by Wright, or for Mel Brooks, 'High Anxiety' (Hitchcock parody) or 'History of the World, Part One'.
"I've been around the station a few times." Oscar winner Olivia Colman, everybody.
It was fimled in Wells, where Edger grew up as a child
all of these actors are British royalty too. it is so lovely that they understood this movie's teh everything and participated in, knowing they'd get a lower salary than they'd normally get in other movies. and yeah, Kate Blanchet and Peter Jackson make a cameo too.
Great video. The ending is given away at the village fete - "take out all the little people and you get to walk away with the cuddly monkey" :)
Edgar Wright's cuts & transitions are amazing, you should check out a TV series he did with Pegg & Frost called Spaced, really good.
Oh, and another easter egg - at the castle scene where Nick see's the villagers in on the conspiracy, Frank Butterworth is wearing a police helmet with VR on it instead of ER (Victoria Regina instead of Elizabeth Regina) possibly to show he prefers an older way of law enforcement.
I love how Americans just can’t really catch our sarcasm 🤣 you just have to be British to appreciate how brilliantly funny and witty this film is
love the sneaky use of part of skyrims soundtrack used at the time of 12:24 in the video. If you didnt think we'd notice.... we did haha
Ended up loading skyrim to play after hearing it lol
so this version of Romeo and Juliet was a reference to Romeo + Juliet (1996), the movie staring Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. It's utterly fantastic.
one of my absolute favorites. my boyfriend doesn't laugh much. just stony expression a lot. and never saw him laugh harder at any other film.
and i love the dual commentary.
It's even more amazing on a re-watch because you see how they set up every single thing perfectly well in advance of the joke going off. Everything that shows up ends up being significant.
No joke this was one of my top 5 comedies, it's just perfect, a great homage, and I happen to love action movies
peter jackson, the director of the lord of the ring, is the stubbing santa
This will always be my favorite Edward Woodward film. Mostly because he plays me in it, haha. Shocked the shit out of me when I saw his name on his door in the movie. Loved it. Also happened in the 2002 movie Slackers. Devon Sawa introduced himself as Tom Weaver in that movie for some reason.
Good to see that great movies remain great with age. Hot Fuzz is up there with Big Trouble in Little China as an eminently re-watchable action-comedy. Hyphens, eh?
This is so wild because I watch TimotheeReacts and I just recently found your channel. Love the reactions man. You a real one.
Mellow, you have a lot of heart and soul. Always be yourself, sir. You will have a bright future, brother!
Timothy was great. You two should work together more often.

“She look like Cate Blanchett a bit”
That’s...that’s her. That really was Cate Blanchett
Im really enjoying this collab i "know" Timothy as well. Two greaat personalities. Love thiss film btw and reaction
Love these collabs!
Really enjoyed this collaboration! You guys react in a way that is distinctively individual, but also compliments the other's to make a very entertaining watch-along! Hope to see more! Thanks!
Love the skyrim music at 15:10 ish lol
Gotta Bring It For The Culture Lml
Wearing matching colours should be the staple of any combo-reaction vid. So satisfying. Great work guys
Amazing reaction like always
Nice way to mix it up
The Cate Blanchett thing was a dead giveaway that they have seen this movie before.
How they were able to quickly piece together that it was an illuminati-type thing was the final giveaway. They have definitely seen this movie before
The old woman who called Pegg a fascist is Billie Whitelaw, best known as Mrs. Baylock from the original The Omen. There are a LOT of other actors in this film known from other memorable roles they've done as well like the priest who also played Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Ark for example. This is such a great and funny movie and never gets old. It's the funniest to me of the Three Cornetto Trilogy too.
Such a great and funny movie...I think it is the best of the trilogy...great reaction. 💯
Did you catch that the the actor that played Michael Armstrong (Yarp) was Rory McCann...who also played the Hound in Game of Thrones? ✌
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s one of the my go to’s for when I’m having a crappy day!
Ayyy another one of my favourite movies. You have good taste man!
Same
Cornetto Trilogy - you started with the second - watch "Shaun of the Dead" the first one and then "the World's End" the third one. Everyone includes Pegg, Wright and Frost.
If you like Edgar Wright and his musical choices. You got to give Scott Pilgrim vs The World a view. Its honestly a great example of his style of directing.
Exactly right, great movie
If Mel hasnt seen Scott Pilgrim, that would be my recommendation also for him to review. LOVE that movie
Great work guys! Awesome choice of movie, so halarious and well done! 😁 💖 A favorite! 🤘 I really look forward to each video! Thanks, buddy! 😎
Fun fact: there are a couple of actors from Game Of Thrones in this movie: the Yarp guy is actually Rory McCann A.K.A. The Hound and the mumbling old guy with all the guns and bombs is David Bradley A.K.A. Walder Frey (the host of The Red Wedding)
Mello I loved this format. It was fun listening to you guys laugh together. I would love to see more collaborations like this! Also may have been mentioned already but Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and The Worlds End are called the cornetto trilogy based on the name of the ice cream cones they were eating in the car.
I can not stop laughing at your reviews. Especially the ones of old comedies! I am cracking up so darn bad!
Great reaction guys.
"She looked like Cate Blanchett a little bit." - That actually was Cate Blanchett, playing a cameo. Good spot!
I'm glad they did this collaboration for the greater good
Got More For You All
Hot Fuzz is a part of the Cornetto Trilogy, along with Shaun of the Dead and Worlds End.
Also "Hot Fuzz" was the first "Cops" TV show
"She looks like Cate Blanchett" is one of the greatest calls in react history. Thats WILDDDD that you caught that so quickly. Im VERY good with knowing people from everything and in everything, to the point htat its annoying to the others around me lmfao, and it took me a WHILEEE to pick up on that. I think I actually heard them say it on the dvd commentary, which is what actually tipped me off.
I've been to Sandford. It really does feel like that, and since this movie came out, their tourist industry has boomed.
Seeing your video in my recommended just made my entire day keep it up bro
Thank You So Much, I Appreciate That
Omg! It's like Night In The Woods plot. I like this movie. Definitely going to watch this again
Mell....loved the video. Cool Team-Up with Timothee.
Thank You Man, Was Really Fun
“This old dude got some hands”-
Well he is James Bond
Glad you are liking some of these movies. Also congrats on 3 of your reviews having over 100K views. If you want some more comedies, I would go with Naked Gun Series, Hot Shots, RED, Idiocracy, Big, Blues Brothers, Clerks, Caddyshack, Stripes.
Gonna assume someone explained the white horse. So the white horse represents Death's mount. So Nicholas being Nicholas Angel, he represents Death riding in on a pale horse. The shotguns on the back are situated so they resemble wings.
Two of my favorite reactors combine forces...awesome.
Great fun, thank you 🇬🇧
Yarp. That’s a sub from me. Cheers guys really enjoyed that👍🏴
Timothy Dalton played James Bond between Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, appearing in two Bond films, 'The Living Daylights' in 1987 and "License to Kill' in 1989.
The "old" guy you said was good at throwing hands is Timothy Dalton, who played James Bond among many other roles.
Proud to say I saw this in the theater in 2007. Laughed my ass off in the first and second acts, and spent the final 1/3 of it pressed into the back of the chair and STILL laughing my ass off.
02:36 Father Christmas is actually LOTR director Peter Jackson
The film actually got praise from real police for its portrayal of one aspect of policework. The paperwork.
It is Cate Blanchet! Great eye! The other missable cameo is Peter Jackson as Father Christmas. 😂😂😂
Filch from Harry Potter too
The "yarp" guy is played by the actor who plays the hound in game of thrones
If you enjoyed this, you should also check out 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World'
I missed it! Mello and Timothee together again! AWesome!!
THIS IS A GOOD ONE!!!
2:01 I love that first shot where his photo is the exact same face. They do the same thing with Timothy Dalton later.
Hot Fuzz is one of those movies that gets better every time you watch it. I'm always noticing subtle things I didn't catch before, particularly in the dialogue. Two examples:
1) "If you want to be a big cop in a small town, why don't you fuck off up to the model village?" Cue a fight at the end of the movie in the model village. Literally a big cop in a small town.
2) "Everyone and their mum has guns around here"
"Like who?"
"Farmers."
"Who else?"
"Farmers mums."
Cut to the Sgt. Angel returning to town when he rams his car into the other guy's car as the other guy is on the radio. The other guy then gets a gun and starts firing. After taking him out, a woman with a gun pops up from behind the wall. The first two people to attack him with a firearm are the farmer and the farmer's mom.
Nice collab with an excellent movie. You two should do one for "Top Secret!". You'll both be laughing a lot. I'd also recommend "Paul", which also has Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
