    I have 121,000 miles on my 2.0 with zero issues. Put 37’s on it about 30,000 miles ago and I have barely any power loss and I have owned jeeps for the last 30 years. It definitely handles bigger tires way better than the 3.6. I absolutely love this 2.0 didn’t think I would but it has surprised me tongues of low into work and handles big tires way way better and has been really reliable for me

      Oh I am very very pleased with the 2.0 turbo. Was very skeptical in the beginning but I love that little engine. Plenty of power plenty of torque and does really good with bigger tires. My buddy has one on 38 and does great with them. Very little power loss

    I had a JLUR rental with the 2.0L engine and I was very impressed with it! I typically strongly dislike four cylinder engines but totally agree with your analysis. It will be interesting to see how well this does long term. Still hoping Stellantis come out with the I6 turbo based off this engine design. The pentastar while a great engine is so boring to drive and they really need a replacement for it.

    I love 4 cylinder turbo motors, had a few from Audi, they were great motors and had lots of power with good fuel mileage.
    I bought a 2022 JT, I wish the 2.0L would have been available for it. I didnt buy the truck to tow, I bought it for the storage space in the bed.
    The main thing I like about turbo engines, you can get a lot of power from them by adjusting boost to the turbo. I had a 1.8L turbo 20 valve Audi, stock it was 170 hp, after I added an ECU program and a few other bolt on mods, I was getting 320HP from it. I am sure a company will come out with a tune for this one soon.

    We have a 2021 2Dr RUBICON with the 2l Turbo without etorque. It was a tough desicion which engine to go with when we ordered it, but i know a few people with this engine and they all realy like it. The power is great and when it was stock, we aeraged 21mpg on a trip to Co. The power it has at high elevation is incredible, Mtn Passes that our JK with the 3.6 would struggle to maintain hwy speed on, the 2l went up with very little effort and i rarely shifted down any further than 7 on any hill.. I agree that how well it will hold up over the long haul is a big question mark, but hopefully it will do well.

    This is definitely an upgrade from the V6. Many people have already gone over 200k miles with no issues. Hopefully the next 4Runner will have a turbo engine since the V6 is anemic above 5000 feet. Keep in mind the V6 has more moving parts with more chance of something breaking. You have twice the number of camshafts, more timing chain, 50% more valves, tighter fit with the V6.

    In the Alfas, this engine is awesome! The Alfas had a thing with cracking radiators for the first couple years but overall that was one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. The engine can only rev safely to about 5500 rpm but has a super wide power band with that 8 speed auto. The Stelvio is comparable weight to the Jeeps so I can imagine it does keep that same pep.

  • @fiftyshadesofurban
    @fiftyshadesofurban 2 года назад +2

    3:01 I test drove a 2020 Rubicon with a 3.6 Pentistar and I can tell you it is only marginally better than in the Gladiator but still underwhelming. You floor the gas and you still wonder when the power will kick in. But this turbo is it.

  • @fiftyshadesofurban
    @fiftyshadesofurban 2 года назад

    11:03 So two things to say here: This is a Sport model, the lowest end model. The tires wheels and suspension are way different than the Rubicon. I'm not sure which Gladiator you have but when I test drove the Gladiator Rubicon and the Wrangler to me they feel exactly the same.. maybe it's just 2019 ..
    The other thing is you mentioning the 48 volt battery and the generator for the 2.0 turbo... When you go to custom build a Wrangler now, you can't get the straight Pentastar engine with an automatic transmission. If you choose the automatic you have to get the 3.6l eTorque which is just like the 2.0 turbo. I mean it's the 3.6liter pentastar but it deletes the alternator and basically has exactly the same setup as the 2.0 turbo minus the turbo. All that fancy expensive stuff is still there. No straight v6 with alternator unless you wanna go manual transmission.

  • @StevenZagaris

    The 2.0 performs better at higher altitude than the 3.6 also. The turbo helps the engine suck in more o2 than the natural aspirated 3.6

    Great review. I'm driving a Pentastar now myself and I've wondered about this engine. I do like the Ford Ecoboost 2.3 powerplant which is surprisingly powerful, and just a few years ago that engine's config was top line racing tech with Ford Motorsport. Like you said, increased complexity = increased opportunity for failure so, like any racing technology, it's better for short-term performance than long-term reliability. If I were going to lease, I think the small-displacement turbo engines are great choices, but they aren't something I'd want to go out and put 100k miles on.

    Loaner is “bottom of the line” base model. Gladiator is longer wheel base too….better ride. If they “ever” d-bug the E-Drive system, it would be a good option. I would not do anything below a Safari to ensure better build quality. If you yanked the carpet and added insulation you could soften some of the road noise. And add a Best Top Hard top to achieve a quieter overall commute. With that said…just buy what you want up front. Even if you need a second job to pay for it. As you said, these things last 200k plus. Buy what you “want” and keep it! Nice review of a borrowed Wrangler. Well done.

We jumped into a Sport S with the Max Tow package and it immediately felt upgraded from the fit/finish and specifically the seats. Both of these models were a dealer package where they added Rubicon take offs such as the suspension, sliders, Wheels/tires, etc ... The dealership insisted the seats and general bones of the trucks were the same, but there was definitely something different in the way each on drove and felt.

    When I was doing my build, I saved $1,500 by going with the 2.0L turbo for the 2021 Sahara Altitude. Didn’t have to pay any extra money for it. I wanted to originally go with the V6 engine, but it was no longer an option for Tuscadero because they were going to discontinue it. I really wanted the color so I just went with it. I got a call last week from my salesman letting me know that it’s going to be a 2022 instead! Thought I could get the V6 after finding that out, but no luck. I still feel pretty nervous about the engine, but most people have good things to say about it. A guy told me his 2.0L engine is still doing great after 80K. If anything happens to my engine, I have a lifetime power train warranty with my dealership which is great!

    I found out the hard way, after burning out a turbo in a Audi 1.8 turbo 20 valve engine, to keep synthetic oil in a turbo engine. I have owned 3 different Audi turbo engines and except for what I mentioned, never had an issue with the engine failing. Most people dog out these engines then shut them down, you have to give the turbo time to cool down or you will have issues. I am looking at buying a Rubicon with the 2.0L engine in it. I am glad I found your video.

    35 ft more torque than the V6. And if you get the BANKS pedal monster, you can get that turbo to kick in faster. Love it on my 20 Rubicon on 35x12.5s. only downfall is the 17.5 gallon tank. See buddy im 56, and i’m like you , 4cyl engines never last because they have to work so much harder to accomplish the same task as the 6 or 8 cylinder engines. Being a jeep guy myself the 3.6 penistar is the way to go.. as far as the diesel go my buddy has one in a 2018 i think grand Cherokee and as we speak mopar is replacing the engine. They replaced the whole top of the engine a year ago it actually melted the intake manifold , and just ate the engine about a week and a half ago and is being replaced now.. but for me personally 3.6 is bullet proof and fantastic engine..

    i hate turbo engine too, this engine is like an exception, it is not known to blow up and is at least good to drive. not the whimpy older turbo engines
