Born and bred Lowestoft lad myself used to work done the lowie fish market on a Saturday when I was 15 then when I left school worked down there 5 days a week Monday to Friday for 3 years done the off shaw survival ticket then went out on the crabbing boats for 10years working for a Holland company 18hr shifts hardly no sleep week at a time but used to come home with 3 grand cash for a weeks work 3 days off then go again 😊they were the days
I love Herring, Kippered. Do you folks ever smoke your own herring? I love the lines of your boat with the high bow, and lapstrake sides. Have you done a video walk thru of your boat in detail? I am guessing it is a fiberglass hull but could be mistaken. I used to use a rowing dory to lay my nets, or I'd use a raft made from a large truck inner tube with plywood bottom, and swim the net out from the beach. Fortunately the water stays relatively warm no need for wetsuit. All history now as gillnets have been banned here for over 20 years.
Yes I do occasionally smoke the herring. They make lovely kippers when they are full of oil and roe. Yes the boat is fibreglass, it’s a tactile 21. If you search tactile boats there is a website with all details and pictures. They are locally made
when i was at scool in the 1960s mum use to say to me i was about10 go down the yarmouth walf and get some herring for tea loads of herring boats beeing unloaded i use to get my bit of string as the baskets came over from boat to lorry i use to pick them up get about 12 dad use to say c if you can get a mackeral sometimes i did happy days they were
Ive heard a lot of similar stories, with herring on a bit of twine. You couldnt imagine kids doing it now, they might get scales on their hands and mess up their phone screen. Its a shame not a lot of people eat them anymore
Thanks for the tour. great video
Glad you enjoyed it
It was good to see the Lowestoft fish market use to have family members work there years ago .
It has changed a lot the last few years
Another great video, interesting to see the market too, thank you! 👌👍
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed watching it. The market is very small now, but it gives you an insight
Nice video bud great tour of the fish market
Most people have never been down there, so its sometimes interesting to have a look around

It reminds me when I was fishing with the same nets off Clacton on sea I miss it small boat tractor off Clacton pier
Very interesting to see the fish market, it would be nice to see the auction if you could film it. Hopefully you'll get a good price for the herrings.
Someone filmed it a few years ago, but it got stopped as people didn’t want others to see what they had caught
@@beanysfishing2555 that's a shame because it's something that most people don't get a chance to see.
Thanks for replying.
Great videos proper fisherman on a boat mixed up with beach fishing. Do you do pots during summer
Yes, I have some pots
Great stuff. How much do you get for a stone of Herring?
Depends on what the market buyers want, and how much is on there. It can be between £1.50 to £6 on average
@@beanysfishing2555 thanks. They are my absolute favorate pike bait.
