Wow, its good to see you on Clacton pier. I remember seeing 20lb cod coming in there in the 60's and live in hope for their return. Great entertainment for us old timers, many thanks.
Well Mick that was a full on session, have tried there before without much success, after seeing your day temped to give it another try ,little more busier with people then you normally get on your beaches ,but it was a good one to watch ,👍👍👍👍🐟
Many thanks for that. It's usually less busy off beaches and therefore easier for me to film sessions; however those I used to seafish with seem to prefer piers, so I'm expecting to do a bit more of that in the future.
Hi Michael, fished the pier the other night, caught lots of whiting, doggies & a small thornback. Mostly on squid & lug. Always seems to blow a gale that union flag on the shelter gets some stick. Nice to see you fishing somewhere that I fish.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Not really sure Michael, I’m a convert from Walton pier. Because of the turmoil at Walton I got a season ticket for Clacton so I don’t really know.
Thank you another entertaining, informative watch, keep them coming. PS. When you get inundated with sample pier rods from manufacturers I’ll be happy to help out 😊
Good program well done I find uptime rods good option on the pier and some them can cast a fair weight for heavy tides keep the programs coming cheers .
Rod takes me back, has endless days fishing as a lad in the late 70s onwards Bass in the crank where you where fishing always a great spot, that wreck must be worth a fortune in lead weights where you lost your tackle, thanks so much for your vids great as always, Water needs to be a tad colder to bring in what's left of the cod thanks again
Good session 👍 The Anyfish Anywhere Bass Pro 12’6” is a good pier rod, I love mine. They’ll do 6oz no problem, even more if needed, seeing as you aren’t doing a pendulum cast. My 14ft and 15ft rods are too big for pier fishing in my opinion, but the Bass Pro is perfect for it.
Thanks for the info - Alex sometimes uses his uptide boat rods from piers, but I'm more inclined to look at bass rods. However - there are times when the riptide is so strong, that maybe a boat rod my come in to play.
I’m pleased my information was good I told you that you would catch a sole and flat fish and on the bait I gave you Jeremy Clacton is a great venue beach and pier hope to see you again sometime 🐳
Nice to see some saltwater action in the UK. Carp and coarse fishing is OK if that’s all you got but access to the coast is awesome and the possibilities are endless, tight lines.
I watched a vid by someone who lowered a go pro down Brighton pier and I was surprised to see schools of bass and Polack mid water between the stanchions not on the bottom that was crab and flattys .it was the summer as the water was quite clear .food for thought...
Yes - float fishing is a good option from piers / breakwaters / concrete aprons etc. and you could also use booms up in the water column. Will experiment with different techniques, if I'm fishing these structures more often. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Very enjoyable video thanks 😊 I remember catching heaps of Whiting on the Suffolk beaches before we moved out to NZ. Just a thought with Soles in mind - the first two snoods of your boom rig would have been off the bottom if you're dropping it off the side - why not have a small ball weight at the top of the rig so all three hooks sit on the sea bed for the Sole?
Yes - you make a good point about using booms from high up. I've just swapped my gear over from one rucksack to a new one and seem to have 'mislaid' the weights I use (drilled bullets and coffin leads) to nail boom rigs to the seabed! I always used them from the black jetty in Canvey and still use them when fishing from Grays Wharf where you are quite high off the water. Hopefully I'll be a bit more prepared the next time I fish off a pier!
Nice idea to fish a bunch of piers sir , I don’t mind a good pier!!. my home town has one and I use to pedal my bike up it with rods lashed on, bucket of worms dug from along side it swinging from handlebars. Brilliant. I appreciate your efforts on this one with that weather. 👍🏼
Great watch Mick, I wish all beaches had those shelters ! Maybe worth putting a whiting livebait down the side for a bass ? Cheap carp rods make excellent pier rods, as long as you have a drop net.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Sounds like a plan. Like on of your other subscribers I've got a Shakespeare bass rod,but the 3 piece version. It's about 11ft, casts 2-4oz and was reasonably priced.
Enjoyable video as always do u ever use sprats i used 2 catch codling &big whiting useing them fishing the old Hastings pier in my teens that looks like a great location you fished. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
Never fished the pier itself but I've caught some good rays from boats opposite the end of Clacton pier. Big combo baits of squid and mackerel work well. For pier fishing I just use my 11ft bass bait rods. Penn Rampage II, 3 piece models. Light and compact.
Ideas for a shorter rod for fishing piers? Ive found an uptider works very well for pier fishing. The uptider i use is a Penn Rampage2 uptide. Is 10ft and has a casting rating of 2.5oz to 10oz. Nice and sensitive tip giving good bite detection but stiffens into a strong mid section and a very strong butt. Before that i used a Leeda Icon uptider 4-6oz for boat and pier fishing. Was absolutely crap. Was like a stick of rhubarb.
Yes, I agree - the music in the background got to me as well! I try to keep my videos (and fishing) music free; however it was blaring out from the Jolly Roger restaurant all day - just as well the wind drowned out some of it!
Yes - I've fished Walton quite a lot in the past and have been on Ha'penny pier a few times, but never fished from there. Watch this space! Maybe a while before I cover those though.
That's good to know - thanks for the info. - I'll have to get back there and give it a go. Always used to be good for the spring run there, before they messed about with the sea defences.
Pick up a pair of Century ttsm or sport many 2nd hand out there unless want new? but they will handle all up there. Century Carbon metals are good ive a pair selling soon mine had 1st eye replaced with Kwag 40low so can fish either reel type on braid which bhnge wasn't good for. Trouble with piers around there is the tide run on a spring it bombs through and you hook a ray light rods won't hold them and had stingers empty reels out on there!

Could be worth a go - I used to do that at Dungie. Don't know if it works at Clacton.
