Thanks Michael and sorry for late reply (Coarse fishing finals have kept me occupied for some time!). Yes, its a good venue and I'm pleased soles are there as I'm having a problem catching the thornbacks!
Hi Michael, great to see your Clacton Pier videos. It’s been a bit of a struggle this summer. It’s nice to see you catching a few small fish & the soles were the highlight for me. Although I prefer to fish for bigger fish myself I like to sit it out with either peeler crab or whole squid & sometimes bluesy after dark. I did speak to you on your way off the pier, I think it was after the first session, you were with Alex, I caught a smoothound of 8.5lbs that night but although I have had several this summer they haven’t been around in any numbers. It’s only usually 1 or 2 fish a visit. But glad to catch up with you guys. Hope to see you again. Regards from Suffolk.
Yes, I've not managed to catch the decent fish that show up there for the cameras. They have been few and far between and you do need to put the time in; but I'm glad you have been rewarded by your efforts.
Love driving up from Ipswich to fish that spot. Shame felixstowes pier is not open to fishing like it was when i was a kid as it was amazing. Another great video catch or not you explain things so simply
Well can’t say you didn’t put the hours in on this one sir !! Finally one came to you , so pleased you managed your second target at that mark. appreciate your efforts 🎣👍🏼👍🏼
Spent half of my teenage life fishing off this pier in the 80's. My favourite spots were the lifeboat house and the opposite side near the boat launch slip but I know they only allow fishing off the arm now. The whole pier used to be very snaggy but it was good fishing. Still go, mostly off boat, kayak or beach now.
Hi Mick ... Even though your three sessions on the pier, didn't produce any quality fish ... A keeper sole shows that you are back in the groove 😊👍 ...
Id be careful lifting fish up a way from the water, can knacker gears in reels, have also seen a guy snap his rod tip on Southend pier a while ago. If im fishing anywher that im any more than a few feet above the water i always take a drop net now
The fishermen who catch most are the ones that constantly tend their rods and strike asap i am a firm believer of that i fished with a guy that held his rod all the time on average he caught most fish in the club
I would pretty much the same when i started fishing as a teenager. Good few missed bites though. Giving the fish a few minutes to have a good munch on the bait though, works great. Especially if using circle hooks, wether with a dongle rig or a circle baited with fish or squid strip
Yes, it helps to be by your rods as much of the time as you can. Unfortunately messing about with cameras prevents that from happening and I do miss quite a few chances and lose fish as a result!
I should have tried them here - Alex caught his thornbacks on pennelled 6/0 circles and huge junks of squid, even though they weren't big enough to swallow those hooks! I couldn't get a bite on what I thought was well presented squid and bluey on 2/0 and 1/0 Viking hooks - all of my fish were on ragworm and tiny hooks!
Hello Michael
One of my old favourites, It always gives up a surprise, nice to see a few soles,
Thank you and I hope your well..

Thanks for that. A great venue to highlight and nice range of species.
Your welcome Tony and thanks for watching again.
A great variety of fish and techniques. Very enjoyable watch.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Great video and brings back so many memories, fish the pier from 13 years of age, they was always a good chance for a Bass in that nook 👍
Thanks Danny - yes, bass do show there and there were plenty of mullet about on the last session, just as we had to pack up and go!
Good to see you back again👍👍
Thanks for that 👍

Awesome again Mick, awesome looking pier 2 fish from ,shame the sole were so small. Happy catching from Australia Nick
Alex had more than his fair share of sizeable soles there - I could only manage the small ones!
Entertaining day Michael 😊 well done buddy 👍
Thanks 👍

Thanks - yes, it took me some hours to get a thornback. Thankfully soles are less of a problem for me!

Thanks for that - I just wish I caught as many decent soles as Alex did!
Great video 👍🏼
Thanks for that 👍
Looks like those shelters need a major revamp.
Yes - a couple don't offer much shelter!
Hi seen a lot of your videos but never seen you fish north Norfolk like weybourne beach
I've fished Cley, but that was before I started filming - so will be on the to do list for the future!
Wheres good fishing for bass in essex?
You could try the Naze at Walton.
