Why not save your movie settings to m1 and photo to m2? Same thing as that switch on A74. That said the A74 is a great camera, better sensor, active stabilization, 10bit, etc... but mode switching while convenvient on the a74 was not impossible with the 7c. I am waiting for the a74 internals to go into the a7c body...

It is unproductive and wasted energy that only feeds into the “tribalism” we see everywhere, such as religion, politics, and even sports. I now have three brands: Panasonic, Fujifilm, and most recently Canon (which I thought I would never own!). I appreciate the strengths of each and the reality is that my family and friends can’t tell the difference between their resulting photos. Neither do Lumix, GH4, G9, etc, really have separate settings for movie. The M mode is "Creative Movie" and quite different to using the Red Record button in PASM. And M is probably not the best for shooting movie. So many settings have to be altered to shoot movie that the workaround is to save your preferred in one or more of the C custom modes.

@Bernard Once upon a time, in the beginning of the digital era, Pentax stood for compact travel friendly stuff. But now, they gave (and still give) birth to monsters, stuff which Pentax users like yourself are fed up with, obviously.
Luckily you seem much younger than the average Pentax user, so you should be able to switch to any mirrorless system you want, effortlessly. I'm sure it is about brain agility 🙂 Look at all these young portrait photography ladies at RUclips, using e.g. their Sonys effortlessly, not ever mentioning anything about e.g. the old Sony menus. It is a brain agility thing, which in turn depends on age.
The same like with car brands. The younger, the more likely you'd switch effortlessly, with no interruption of the joy of driving. The older, the more reluctant one gets to face a new learning curve, and the harder it gets indeed. And, the louder the moaning gets about an alleged "all the other car brands are not as ergonomic as the one I'm used to" 😉

However, if I could build a dual camera setup again, I would probably invest in the Sony a7C and the a7S III (or a7 IV). Sorry about the absence of Nikon support in Finland... I just like to inform you about the situation here.
The direct importer in Italy regarding assistance and warranty is way expensive in most cases as a fact here an example: Nital with "code" body cameras Z6II it costs 2.290 with full 4y warranty, but you can buy same body EU import camera for 1.987 same 4y warranty. Is 300€ more which is not very hi as another example and that makes the bigger unjustifiable difference is D850 (body only) from an EU importer you need 2.245 + 4y warranty but direct importer ask 3.079 + full free 4y assistance (and this cause DSLR prices dropped after ML launch otherwise add 300€). Is well over 800€! A major fact is, if your EU camera needs care, main LTR Nikon repair labs give assistance only for first year but the others (1 or more years accordingly with EU warranty you bought) are given by EU importer, so after 1y warranty passed EU cameras all go for a trip that last... who does know! In the other case with a "coded" Nital body camera you get full 4y coverage warranty, first year Nikon official other 3 by Nital. Here we have some advantages (if can be called so) and are all well paid! The main advantage of this kind of market goes to Pro photographers that have no worries during their shooting if something goes wrong.
End of story short!? If you are happy with Sony ... tie up with it!! Sony are great cameras and have good lenses and a third party lenses as well. One day I may do the big effort to switch with Sony myself not cause I don't like Nikon (I love it!) but its prices and warranties deal are a mess!

The a7C is a fantastic tool for a photographer/videographer who moves a lot - the body is compact and relatively lightweight, as are the many lenses available to it. But the settings-tap-dance one has to do when going between video and photos can be a big annoyance in the long run, I agree! Also my biggest gripe with the a7C. In a way that also shows how far the cameras we use have gone when such relatively small issues can become the main reason for changing cameras!

Great video, thank you for posting.
I use a Sony A6000. Coming from Nikon (40 years), it took almost a year to change muscle memory. I bought into Sony for its incredibly small sized lightweight body, its fast autofocusing system, and for its production of constant high quality files.
I don't need a command dial under the shutter button as I shoot in Shutter Speed priority controlled via the dial on the right, at the back of the camera. This, combined with auto ISO means I can quickly choose the shutter speed I want per the situation in front of me, via the LCD.
For video, I find shooting in auto is enough for my needs, as it does a fine job every time.
I bought the A6000 in 2016 and I've yet to use the EVF except for when I shoot on Nikon. I prefer 100% peripheral vision (left and right and beyond the camera) so I can see what's about to step in or out of the frame. For me, the LCD makes my photography more of a joy, especially when I tilt the flip screen into a pseudo waist level finder mode. I simply love doing this.
The Sony A7C sure is tempting though, not that I have a need for full frame photography, except this is the first time I've heard someone rave about its long battery life, sadly this pleasure is missing from the A6000 (it has dismal battery life).

Nothing compact about full frame, even with A7C, people overhyped ít, until they slap f2.8 zoom lenses on.

In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie. One camera to rule them all, one camera to find them, One camera to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them; In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

I've sold all my M43 gear and trying to determine my next step. Down to just a Fujifilm x100v for now.

Its the same as women selecting which man they wanna be married to.
Whats great for me, might be crappy or merely medicre to others.
    We all hv flaws.
Some women can accept our shortcomings, accept them and adapt to them.
The A7C is a hot woman. But you’ll need to spend loads of money on over-priced bulky
lenses to make it perform at its best. Can you afford such a woman? 😂😂😂

congratulations on your new camera. I am a Panasonic Lumix user. But more than everything i like photograph AND video, where Lumix shines. I hate Sony for sure though! Have fun!
