    I keep coming back to this video. I had the a6400 then moved to a7 iv. And my willingness to grab the bigger body camera and go out has reduced and I honestly think if I went backwards to the a7c that I can regain the spontaneous love. I'm trying to think what I'll sacrifice and if it's not even that big of a deal. Your video helped me get one step closer to that decision 😇

      I understand, I just did the "downgrade" myself, well knowing that probably next year there'll be the a7cii. Anyway!I I admire the 7IV, it's a very functional, good camera, but I just don't feel like going out on the streets with the 7IV.

    Thank you for all your great videos about this camera. I bought the A7C after watching pretty much all your stuff about it and it's honestly the absolute perfect camera for me. It's $100 cheaper now on sale and I think people fuss way too much about their gear when they should be worried about creativity. This thing makes me wanna shoot tons of video and photo and explore the world, and I haven't felt that way in such a long time.

    I’m a girl with small hands. Shot YEARS of weddings with a Canon 5d. Now I like to just get out with this and it’s small and it made me feel again like having fun and not working. ❤
    For my current purposes the fact that it’s so compact is the top criterion. I am in love with it.

    I agree 100% about the smaller viewfinder. It never bothered me in the least bit because it makes framing shots super fast since you don't need to "scan" the image with your eye. I never really understood the hate that the EVF gets.

    I have had my a7c for a year and your videos were a big reason why I chose it over other cameras. I recently purchased the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 and am loving it. I traded in my Sony 24-105 f4 that I purchased at the same time as the camera. I still have the kit lens and the Sony 85mm 1.8. I recently got back into photography after 9 years. I purchased the Sony a6600 but returned it to get the a7c. I had a Sony nex-6 prior to that so I have always enjoyed the range finder style design. The one thing that I do not enjoy as much is editing.
    So although I love my a7c I bought a Fujifilm X-e4 to try out their film simulations. So far I am loving it as well. I have the 35mm f2 lens.
    I am not leaving Sony for Fujifilm but I definitely get the appeal. I really enjoy having two different camera options. The x-e4 is easier to carry around but having the Tamron 35-150 has been amazing. I did buy the small rig 3212b which has the bigger grip for it and it has made a huge difference in comfort with the bigger Tamron lens. It doesn’t cover up the silver top so it still looks fantastic. Thank you for the video.

    Thanks for your video and input on this camera. I have had this camera for over a year now as I was planning on going to New Zealand with it, a trip that Covid-19 postponed on me. I use a Tamron 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 lens on it and love the variety of shots and genres I can shoot. I just love this camera! I started with the Sony a6000 and use the sony 16-50 lens on it so I am set to shoot anything when I travel. I also have a Canon 5D Mark II which now only comes out of the closet to shoot weddings due to its weight.

    I enjoyed this video, you did a good job! I have an A7c here with me right now and also a Canon R6. I doing vids on each of them but secretly I am choosing between the 2 of them as one for myself personally. You are one of the few people that really connects with your camera and can talk intimately about about things on the camera that would go right over other peoples head. The A7c actually gives a touch of a Leica body feel, high quality in a stealth body. She's the one for you :) Thumbs up, I enjoyed your video 👍👍👍

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  2 года назад +3

      Thank you! It’s so important that whatever camera you have feels like an extension of yourself when shooting. When you connect with your camera in that way, the specs and having the “best” become far less important.

  • @CC-gt3ro
    @CC-gt3ro Год назад +2

    The Smallrig 3212 cage (which have a nice grip extension) solves the grip issue and also make the camera heavier which helps to get better stabilization video. stabilization improves a lot with it. I tested with and without and the difference is huge. the camera is too light by default for video. People were saying it didn't have the same quality of ibis than a a7III. it is incorrect. it has as good ibis than a7iii but the a7c is more lighter so more subject to all micro movements. By adding weight your remove or at least reduce a lot this micro movements. the grip extension also helps for photo for better grip and handle longer lenses like 70-300 more easily. The compact evf of A7C helps also when you connect a big flash like hvl-f60rm2, as the camera is flat and make the combo more compact.

    If anyone else having the issue if lcd/viewfinder being too dark.. There is a goofy workaround that works. Just hit the exposure compensation dial and ramp it to full brightness. Just wildly overexposed. This will make the scene perfectly viewable in the moment. Compose your shot, then roll back down to proper exposure. Both of these motions are a single thumb twitch and can be done in a matter of moments. Granted a moment can be a missed photo in some cases... But for static subjects and many moving subjects, it's a fantastic work around. Saved me many times, as I shoot around Manhattan in broad daylight ha.
    Great video, though. You know a camera is awesome when you're happy to just watch someone else talk about how awesome it is ha.

    • @DylanBlackburn

    • @SourPlanet

      @@DylanBlackburn Oh I misworded there. It's just an LCD problem. The viewfinder has adequate brightness, in my opinion. It's a bit hard to use as someone who wears glasses, but that's a whole different conversation.
      Also, I saw your square Leica type hood for the 24mm and just had to have one for my 35/2.8 Zeiss haha. I lost the lens cap in the city and was immediately like.. "oooh no.. *jumps on excuse to order like 2 minutes later* ." It really looks great with the range finder style body.

    Hi Dylan, I agree with you that there is something very tactile about the A7C that makes you want to pick it up and take photos. Since I bought mine, I have not used my A7iii, at all. I love the rangefinder style ( old 6000/6500 days remembered!) and have enjoyed a renewed love of smaller primes. Sony's 35 f1.8 is a dream on this body and I recently picked up the 50f2.5. Saying that, I don't mind using it with my 70-200 f4 or my other heavier lenses either. I use the camera's back dial for aperture changing and the middle dial for shutter speed changes. I have the Peak Design Capture Clip plate mounted on the bottom tripod mount and have two PD attachment threaded on to it for neck strap or wrist strap use. My biggest gripe with the A7C is the viewfinder which I do wish was brighter/sharper. Luckily, I have deep set eyes so do not have the trouble of having the sun render it unusable. I do have smaller hands so find the grip and ergonomics in general comfortable in use. I am definitely looking forward to the next iteration ( A7Cii) and will be buying it if their are enough improvements. I have the silver top model and must admit I just like looking at it as an elegant object in its own right much more than I ever have with my a7iii. Call me shallow!

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  2 года назад +2

      Nice!! After picking up the 24mm G I’m strongly considering getting the 50mm 2.5 to pair with it. While I don’t own a 70-200, I have the 24-105 that stays on my FX3 most of the time for filming. Might throw it on my A7C and go out shooting with it one day.
      And I agree on the A7C being a beautiful camera. Something about it just looks so pleasant when compared to other cameras. It may be the silver which just looks so sleek.

    I purchased an A7C yesterday. This is an experiment.
    I do street photography so small size and lightweight is important to me. I’ve never shot full frame. I wonder if it is noticeable better than crop sensor images. I also want to experience Sony autofocus. I was happy to see the Z battery was able to be included in the body. I have two batteries and that should be more than enough. I’m curious to see what the B&W jpeg files look like.
    I’m not too keen about the flip out screen. As a photographer the screen sticking out from the body makes me more visible. I’m looking forward to taking the A7C out for a spin. I need to set the camera up and the menu and Sony nomenclature is unfamiliar to me. I also have to purchase a lens. This is a small body. I don’t know of any compact bodies that have dual card slots. This is a feature that doesn’t matter to me.
    Once I’m set up look out Seattle streets. Here I come.

Better grip and chip, require an technology improvement so it won’t happen before 4 or 5 years. Anyways thank you so much for responding to my comments, really appreciate it, finally I can throw all this questions to someone who really use and understand the A7C 🙏🏻

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  Год назад +1

      The viewfinder is noticeably worse than those cameras. I mention in the video that I got used to it and came to prefer it over time. If you wear glasses you may struggle to use the viewfinder. I really don’t understand why they couldn’t at least use a viewfinder with the same magnification as the A6000 series. It definitely took a while to get used to

    This is a tough one. I have the a6600 and the A7R3, my baby. The a6600 is the perfect simple camera and would be absolutely perfect if it was fitted with a full size sensor. But knowing how to shoot so you don't have to crop much, the a6600 is great. I'm surprised Sony didn't take cue of the excellent design features of the a6600 and give the A7C a terrible EVF and bigger grip. Why? I don't know but it sure is an oversight. Hope their A7C mark 2 addresses these issues and manage to slip in a 33mp sensor. The a6600 is the perfect walk around camera. And the camera with APS-C lens are even smaller. Sony's new 10-20 PZ zoom (15-30mp FF equivalent) is incredible, tiny and ultra light, besides being ultra sharp.
    It's a tough decision. Depending on the seriousness of the product, a pro will go with FF while the person using it for general use is more than satisfied with the a6600.

      Is money an issue? If no, A7IV. If you want to save about a thousand dollars, go with the A7C and pick up the Sigma 24-70. The difference between 24 and 28 is bigger than you think; you'll be glad you got the wider view. I chose to go the A7C route and am extremely happy with my choice.

    I picked up a gently used a7c earlier this year and its great. I find however that certain lenses cause issues with the IBIS, or rather the IBIS "knocks" or "rattles" with longer lenses and its quite audible. For example my sony 85mm 1.8 will sometimes cause this knocking effect. Idk if its an issue with the lens because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. Seems to fix itself when I shut the camera off and turn it back on. Is this a common thing with this camera body?
