Weight is everything for me since I am a small guy doing landscape photography. That is why I chose the A7c as well to pair with my Tamron 17-28 and 28-200 for Landscape Photography hobby. Everything including 1 extra battery to weigh less than 2 KG is something I really enjoy especially during long treks. Like what you said, It’s ultimately up to the user’s personal needs and priorities. Great video and content🙌🏻

Just have to point out real quick that the card that you formatted over didn’t get “erased” the photos were still there unless you overwrote them entirely! All formatting does is tell the card that it can overwrite the content. There are plenty of services and software out there that can help you retrieve your lost files! Don’t ask me how I know….

I’m hoping that a Mark II comes along (maybe next year) that would add some of the features from the α7IV, 4K60 and the new menu system w/touch is what I want most. Tough choice. I’m coming from an a6000, it seems that I’ll get more of an upgrade out of an A7IV compared to A7c ii. I get a xtra sd, focus joystick, bigger evf, & I have big hands so a7iv fits better. If I spend over $2k I’d like to see my money buy me more upgrades rather than just ai focus, better ibis, and…..that’s about it from A7c ii. Biggest seller would be the aesthetic of it honestly.

It’s definitely a luxury to have both cameras for different scenarios. As for the 35mm’s, I do miss the aperture ring of the GM since there is no front dial on the A7C. Otherwise both lens are equal in sharpness and colors/contrast. So it comes down to size and the .4 f stop difference

Hey Dylan, I am deciding between buying the FX3 and the A7IV. I do about 90-95% video. I am a filmmaker and I also like to shoot music videos and want to get into content creation as well(i.e. videos for RUclips like short films/music videos or regular talking head videos/vlogs and photography for Instagram). I also do a bit of photography, but I don't shoot for print. I want to get into ways of making money in the next 3-5 years like wedding videography/photography, real estate videography/photography and hopefully even product videography/photography.
The obvious choice seems to be the A7IV, but I worry about the usability in client work due to the overheating.
My budget is about $4,200. I do not have any lighting, but could choose to shoot outdoors or with natural light while I save for lighting. I do not have any lenses, but if I buy the FX3, I would probably buy a cheap and decent prime lens(24mm or 35mm) until I save up enough for another lens. I do not mind the technical challenge haha.
Ideally, I would buy the A7IV and use the other $1,200 on lighting and lenses, but I am afraid it will limit my confidence in working with clients because of the known overheating that I have heard about(someone told me that theirs overheated within ten minutes while they were only scrolling through the menu).
Based on all of this and what I want to do, should I buy the FX3 or the A7IV? Or maybe you propose that I get the A7SIII? Sorry for the long question. Thanks!
P.S. If I go for the FX3, I would have to use it for my paid gigs as well as my personal filmmaking and content creation cam, because it would be the only camera I have. Would this be ok? Thanks again!

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  2 года назад +2

Honestly, I would still recommend the A7IV. Because then you would have enough money to invest in a nice lens and possibly lighting equipment and a microphone as well.
The risk of overheating does go down drastically when you change the settings, use airplane mode and keep the screen out. I think it would be the better decision in the long run.

The viewfinder is small but a $20 silicone eyepiece makes it super comfortable. For my budget the Sony “G” lenses suit this camera. 10bit color from a7iv is the biggest difference for the video aspect. And the viewfinder is absolutely trash on a7c not comfortable to use compared to a7iv. A7iv is just a more professional body with more dials and buttons and if u have a bigger lens set up the balance is better with the bigger a7iv body. Hi Dylan, I’m an ASP-C user who’s trying to upgrade to FF, because I’m so dying on getting the 50mm 1.2 GM for my photo work. As an ASP-C user the A7C sure is the most appealing to my eyes compared to A7IV, but my main question is. Is it gonna be comfortable to pair the 50 1.2 GM with A7C? As you mentioned earlier even the 35GM wasn’t that comfortable to pair with it as the grip on A7C was so shallow too and it’s too obvious that the 50GM was bigger and heavier than the 35GM. I’m so confused and really need some insights, I traveled a lot, that’s why I don’t think the A7IV body would come in handy, but really appreciate if you could share some thoughts about it. My 6600 would definitely retired in the next few months, just still can’t decide which one should I go for. Thanks in advance ✌🏻

If ur trying to get 50mm f1.2 it makes no sense to get the a7c. The lens is so heavy even on a full body a7iv its not the most comfortable setup its still too front heavy. You will not use the 50mm f1.2 if u have the a7c its too uncomfortable. And honestly pro lenses these days are big so I dont think simply a little smaller body will make any difference while traveling. Especially when ur saying u want the 50mm f1.2.

@@slurp3194 yes, I’ve been contemplating about it a lot as well, I just loved the lens and been reading every review or videos about it, I’ve been thinking about getting the 7IV as well, but somehow I don’t think the size would suit me well, I’ve been saving on 85mm 1.8 or 20mm 1.8 G as well, probably would be the more go to lens on A7C

Hey I have the a7c the view finder is absolutely garbage when you compare to a7…. Idk if you shoot in bright light but I do that a lot and it’s driving me crazy. Of course you can buy that dingy eyecup thing that goes into the hot shoe but I’ll tell you after installing that, with a 24-70 gm, the smaller size of the a7c is not that big of a deal. The a7iv is not much bigger.
Since I carry the a7c with the 24-70 gm around all the time. The smaller factor doesn’t matter anymore. that dingy eyecup extension actually add alot of “size” as well. I didn’t bother with it anymore and decided to sell the a7c and went with a a7iv, the menu is better, the eyecup is better, there are more buttons that I can change settings faster, everything is nicer. I never looked back. For sure you can change settings pressing the function key and play around with it.
In my case I also had the 35gm as well. The a7c is not that small if you use any of these GM lens. So long story short. If you are ok with the smaller lenses quality. I’m sure the a7c can benefit you with the small form factor. (I do actually use that kit lens a lot when I’m not shooting at night) But if you plan on bringing these GM lenses with you all the time. Don’t bother wiht the a7c just go with the a7iv.

The last different a7c record video of more than 30m without stopping. The End :)

I only had it overheat once but after that I changed the settings in camera so it would withstand more heat before shutting off. Since then I haven’t had any issues.
