A 1981 X11 like the one pictured did not have the pathetic, tepid Iron Duke 2.5 no anything like it. The 1981 X11 came with a true LH7 "HO660" 2.8 litre V6 which was jokingly rated at 135hp/165ft/lbs with a VERY BROAD TORQUE curve which reached way up in the RPM range. The factory cam was so lopey that a vacuum canister had to be installed to run accesories during idle.. Mine was equipped with the Muncie 4 speed and was capable of 0-60 in 8 seconds or so say the reports. They were actually quicker than that if driven in a spirited manner. Back in the day most 0-60 tests were done in a manner "so as to not induce wheel spin, and not exceeding the factory redline". Mine felt every bit as fats as my 91 SE-R except for the low end torque was much better. The 81 X11 hatch weighed in at about 2700lbs which is almost 2k less than the Challenger above. I have seen X11's modified with 3.8's and Caddy 4.9's so there is really no telling what this particular X11 in the video is running.
The LH7 variant of the 2.8 Engine. Otherwise known as the HO660 “High Output 6 cyl, 60 degree”:
    Different deck height
    higher compression
high lift/duration cam which necessitated the use of an aux vacuum can to run accessorizes at idle
    Different crank
    Larger valve heads
    High volume oil pump
    Low restriction air cleaner
    Functional Cowl Induction
    Muncie 4 speed
    Progressive computer controlled 2bbl carb
Specific X11 suspension which was better than the F41 which was available on other Citations,
14″ aluminum mag wheel with the inscription “Citation” embedded.
These were really cool cars in 1981. Unfortunately they were absolute garbage save for the drive-line. The parts/pieces would literally fall off the car as you were driving. Second to this, Chevy made some drivabiity improvements stating in 82, but they also started doing dumb shit which greatly reduced the performance.
The 1981 X11 would flat out smoke a GTI (VW), Escort Gt, BMW 320is, or anything else in it's class at the time. Chrysler introduced the Shelby Charger in 83 with a 0-60 just under 10 seconds, not until 84 did they equal the straight line performance of the LH7 X11....and they had to turbo the 2.2 in order to do so.

I took the LH7 apart & ported the heads, with small block springs. Polished the crank & deburred everything. Balanced it. Put a Comp cam in it. Made a 4BB carb adaptor with a Holley 600. The sucker ran like a scalded dog!!

Truth! You forgot better brakes and frame bolstering. These were awesome cars. Mine never fell apart but it did break a clutch fork twice.

I had an '80 X-11, used it as a haul rig to motocross races throughout the 80's, I loved that car but it was a quality disaster.

In other words, the Citation, along with the Phoenix, the Omega and the Skylark, were all basically nice cars, but were not so very nicely made.

Summer of 1988 I had a stock '81 citation with the 4Cly. Iron duke and 4spd.my brother in law street raced a kid with a brand new firebird 8cylinder but it was auto trans. The Citation beat it right off the line and never challenged.Talk about a posses off rich kid, to this day I can still picture his buddy leaning out the passenger window saying" WOW! THAT F##KING THING'S A ROCKET! And the kid that owned the foreword yelling at him to shut up!

+Robert Drake Nice story, but a Citation X11 with the 4 cyl had a 0-60 time in the 16 second range. A video on You Tube actually shows a same weight Fiero taking 16 seconds to 60. A bone stock 88 Camaro with the 305TBI, automatic with a 2.73:1 gear would run the 0-60 in 9 seconds. So I call fish story on your claim...but it was a fun read.

Randsonic All your doing is quoting statistics from paper you weren't there It happened. ZI don't like being called a liar but I guess that's what gets you off, question people's integrity seeing if you can get a rise out of them.Believe it or don't I was there .

Robert, I am 52 years old, I have built, rebuilt, owned, raced more cars than you can imagine. Many of my cars can be seen on Photobucket under Randy911. I personally owned a 1981 X11, and a very good friend of mine owned a 1980 X11 4 cylinder variant. There is no comparing the 2 cars. Mine was white with the beautiful Burgundy interior. Not sure why you have to get all bent out of shape. I am telling you what the performance perimeters of both cars were, and calling "fish story" which does not mean lying...just certsian level of embellishment. I would be willing to bet you about $1000 your brother was racing a 2.8 litre V6 Camaro which had a very putrid 0-60 as well. I also owned a 1987 Camaro with the 305 4bbl.......while not a true high performance car it would have smoked any 4 cylinder Citation. Sorry to offend with my knowledge, and the "Fish story" line was tongue in cheek........ease up dude.

+randsonic I am also 52 years old way beyond the point of having to make shit up to impress anyone.I wrote what actually happened on that particular night and you quote your statistics and call it a fish story. That's calling me a liar as I said I was there you were not.Yes on paper it shouldn't have happened that way but it did.So don't call me a liar!

Okay Bob...Your brother miraculously took a car with 1/2 half the 0-60 potential of a 1988 V8 Camaro, a car with 84hp and 120ft.lbs of torque with a rated 0-60 of 16 seconds, and due to his driving prowess, a stream of miraculous physics, Saturn being aligned just right with Venus he smoked said Camaro.
      I totally believe you now.

Actually yes they weighed just barely less then an 87 cavalier z24 pretty similar car. The citation x-11 truly weigh at only just under 2500lbs vs that heavy ass challenger, so the results show how (light) and (quicker) the x-11 is and it was a little surprising of how close the race was at the end. But as i can tell from the video seeing and listening how he punched the throttle and ripped through the gears the x-11 is a very healthy STOCK... Well done!
