Feretta guy: full send
Also Feretta guy, what are seat belts?
@@thecustardguys in 87 they were optional
@@thecustardguys ,
Oh, gawd... [shudders when recollecting...] ... Those damned automatic A-pillar seat belts.
Part of me feels like this should be a museum showpiece, but there's something beautiful about the fact that it's out on the streets, raising hell.
The sound of that engine. I'm extremely impressed..
Me too Wow.
Like 90's nascar
@@michaldeville I thought stock car too
It sounds like it is reving to the moon.
Same here, man I wish they had put these into production back then could you imagine what the 90's would have been like with these engines/cars??? At least this one survived.
Sounds like an ls car to me
Im glad he isnt afraid to drive it, what fun is it just to look at it.
Seems afraid to clean the interior.
Staring at stuff is fun too.
Yeah up imagine when it brakes to find parts. It's nice to have it when that engine brakes I'll do a LS engine swap from a SS Impala or Monte Carlo🤙🤘🤘
Well you just watched a video on it...
What fun it would be to i dunno CLEAN THE FUCKING THING INSIDE AND OUT BEFORE YOU FILM IT.
I love the sound of that v8
That would be so wild to drive up to a traffic light and hear a throaty v8 coming from a Beretta.
haha yesss
Could always drop a ls4 into one from the Monte Carlo ss
@@unlisted9494 Wonder if there is any manual that could work with the LS4
@@CRAPO2011 yes there is the getrag from the 3.4 luminas and 3.1 Berettas should bolt up go an ls4 theoretically
Someone needs to do this
If you squint your eyes, it looks almost like a mid 90's Grand Prix
I see it...I would agree even more if it was that Pontiac red color so many of the Grand Ams and Grand Prix came in.
Grand Prixs came with similar wheels
Thats what I'm seeing lol. At first I thought sunbird w no emblems lol.
Ill always see a cavalier
Loved my 91 Grand Prix wish it had turbo engine from 90 though
God an AWD v8 5 speed Beretta would be insane. That'd be something to contend with the Quattros and M3's of the era.
Nobody bought audis in the 80s
Had an 89 V6 auto beretta in 2000. Paid $500 for it with only 30,000 miles on it. It was mint other then a deep scratch on the driver side. Loved it. Then a drunk driver ran a stop sign and t-boned me. Had the car 2 weeks and 3 days. Car was destroyed and I walked away with almost every rib on my right side either broken or cracked. I was 16.
That's a sad story. It's good that you're alive tho
Haha! The stock GTZ photo used is my old car. Its my 93 GTZ. I took the photo back in ~2001 and uploaded it a few years back. Lol.
thats cool as hell
Ahhh. The ole 80s flappy headliner. Brings back memories.
Lol. I worked at a chevy dealership in 89. We had to glue the headliners back up when they came off the truck. 80s = awful interior.
All vehicles headliners do fail due to heat.
@@shadowopsairman1583 I drove a 2001 Tacoma for 17 years, and put 275,000 miles on it. The headliner never sagged. I live in Alabama where we reach triple digit temperatures.
My 88 Beretta has a huge dash bulge that ultimately popped. The entire car industry should be ashamed of themselves for the 80's.
I owned 2 berettas back in the day. Loved both cars. A V-8 powered Beretta would have kicked ass
A better option would have been the legendary 3800.
@@wymple09 A buddy of mine was big time into those Corsica, Beretta, Cavalier body cars. He had a couple manual 3800 series II supercharged swapped cavaliers. Those bastards were mean.
My first car was a 1990 Beretta GT I bought in May of 1997 when I was 19. Paid $5500 for it, as it had 53,000 miles on it at the time and it was mint. It was this color - dark metallic blue with dark blue interior and the red pinstripe accents and GT badges. 3.1 V6, 3 speed automatic, and fully loaded with every option. It had the window sticker with it too. Stickered for $16,000 with all the options. 15" aluminum honey comb wheels on Goodyear Eagle GT1 tires. I had that car for 2 years and put 40,000 miles on it then had to get rid of it. It had the infamous Beretta/Corsica paint peel/primer wash, the peeling dashboard, the cracked plastic trim around the doors, and it became a terrible rattle box.
But I loved it while I had it. And honestly, I'd buy it back today and restore it if I could. For sentimental purposes of course - no Beretta is worth anything except for these rare prototypes.
It was pretty fast with the 3.1 V6 and 3 speed automatic. I could only imagine how fast this Feretta is with a V8 and 5 speed stick! Yowza!!
If my car sounded like that everywhere I go would be in full send mode.
Definitely a unique ride , you definitely would not expect it to be a v-8 and leave you sitting at a red light , thanks for sharing
Sick AF😁 had a black gtz loved it for years! Please dyno that thing! I'm sure its not a hp monster but im really curious to see what its got.
I had a white one it was a blast to drive with the ho quad 4
Great video , had a new ‘88 stick GT , pretty much totalled less than a year later. Wish the basket handle convertible had made it to market, look it up if you haven’t seen one. Thanks for putting this up, your presentation is professional, background with birds is perfect, no ridiculous crap music 👍.
This is WILDDD. Super cool. the head liner dancing in the wind near the end hahaha.
It's hard to believe that Berettas and Corsicas, cars that were so common everywhere, are all but gone on the roads...at least here in Chicago. I can't remember the last time I saw one.
Same here in northern Minnesota... I used to see them all the time back when I was still in highschool.
Rust belt.
Now that's more like it!! A real review of that awesome looking Beretta!👌😎👉❤ you're one lucky dude! Definitely one of a kind and a rare one at that! Man that v8 sounds beautiful!🥰👍
That is the best sounding V8 I've ever heard in my life
Bruh I woulda bought that in a heartbeat it looks so fun
Man that thing sounds good 🔥💯
I wouldn't be shocked if you told me this car sold in Australia for tens years, lol
I've smoked a few Probes with my 92 Z24 3.1 stick Cavalier back in the 90's.
Chuckles to the Probe... that scratched a brain cell
This brings back a lot of good
Memories. I used to own an ‘89 gtu and ‘90 Indy. Both 5 speeds. Thanks for sharing this.
I’ll believe this is real when at least one of the door handles is broke off.
Had a 92 Grand Prix. Had to pay extra for a covered spot at the old apartment because it was parked all the time with drivers window halfway down.
@@mrblack1505 idk call me crazy but...why didn't you just use the parking money to fix the window?😳
@@averyparticularsetofskills There you go. You're thinking the most.
Wonder if the blinkers work.
The door handles were so cheap and easy to change out though…
The more I think about it - When this car was built, was around the time the FWD Camaro/Firebird GM80 program was cancelled. I suspect this was a fall back option for a FWD F-Car.
My first new car was a 1987 red Beretta GT, Feb 14 1987, one of the first shipments to my area. Since the car was so new to the public, I actually got some people asking me if it was a new Camaro. And this may have been part of the V8 Beretta calculation at the time.
As far as the engine and transmission - Since the engine was made (apparently) made by Isuzu, there is most likely some documentation in their (dusty) archives. I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything from a few retired GM engineers about this car.
PS - I'd love to see a review of the TT AWD Beretta. :-)
If ONLY this would’ve been built, I would ABSOLUTELY own one. How awesome.
I've always had a soft spot for this car and this is probably the best version I've seen.
No lie this whip is pretty sick. 1 of 1 cars just make them so much more dope
Sounds great! Neat little chunk of history. I'm intrigued by the engine. Wonder what it would put down on a dyno.
I’m a Ford/Pontiac guy but I always thought Berettas were cool looking cars. A Baretta with a V8 is just awesome!
Pontiac sold a version of the car in Canada under the Tempest badge. Iirc they never sold the coupe but they might have sold the 5 door, I always wanted to get a clean 5 door and kit it up in Beretta GTU/GTZ/Z26 trim. But a Pontiac grille might be cool too lol.
@@DrewLSsix the Baretta Z26 was a great looking car. My brother in law had one. If that car was stuffed with a V8 holy crap how awesome!!
@@DrewLSsix and a Pontiac version would have been so good! Always loved Pontiac and the rebel ways of getting around GMs stifling of them in the name of Chevy, GMs poster child.
Berreta had style. I had a 91gtz. Loved it
Thing is unreal . I love these rare one off things. Imagine the different present we would have now if some of these cars were mass produced and took the place of other big names like the camaro !
Back in the 1980s when this model came out, I was a poor student who rented an apartment that was owned by the same guy who owns the Chevy dealership in town. Heck of a nice guy, he used to let me drive a Corvette around on my birthday every year.
Anyway I remember when the Beretta came out and I used to see the odd GTZ or GTU on the lot. They came with the usual Chevy quality interiors, but the controls were generally laid out well and I thought that the overall design was great. Performance was nice but I always felt that they were capable of much more. Thanks for posting this showing that some guys at Chevy were thinking along the same lines as my desires.
Also one of the directors at my company had a Buick Grand National. That doesn't have anything to do with anything, but I loved that car too.
This needs to be on regular car reviews
I've always loved the Berettas, luminas, and grand prix of that era and thought they needed to be rwd and wide body! This thing is beautiful!
Absolute COOL Man! Your a lucky guy to own this car. If Chevy made these I'd buy one and I'm a Toyota guy myself. My buddy had one of these in High School in 1990. It was cool....but no where near as cool as yours. Hope you take care of it and keep it alive for a long time. Cheers!
Would be cool if they did this to a Z34
Gm did experiment the front drive high performance v8 in '87, 20 years later, they come out with the monte carlo ss, grand prix and Bonneville gxp, and lacrosse and Lucerne csx, all powered with the 5.3L (327 ci) v8.
And the eldorado and toronado were ...
@@redneck4528 those were cruisers though. Low rev engine and seats that rival your sofa at home
I remember the beretta and the z31 and the z34 , but all wheel drive twin turbo would have been awesome 🤩
I am so in love 😍 also it looks like the 90s grand prix coupes
I was born in 87 and I love all cars from that era
Sounds like a fun car. I had a '92 Cadillac DeVille 4.9L (300 cid) V8 FWD. If it was manual it would've been so much more fun. But it was insanely powerful for a midsize boxy GM.
I always thought these cars looked awesome, just needed to be rwd. Good to know they never fail to let me down.
Ok I helped a good friend many years ago, swap an Impala SS V8 fwd train into a Z 34 Lumina. That included an Edlebrock Intake F.I. Setup, custom headers with pipes exiting just before the rear wheels. He also had the trans tweaked and a posi trac differential installed, that surprisingly helped take care of torque steer! The engine was rated I believe 300 hp/340 lbs ft tq stock, that must have gained at least 10%! I will say this, that car came off the line like a scalded cat! Plus fantastic in snow!
bro, this shit is priceless honestly. we do not get this kind of craftsmanship out of any product we drive anymore because it is all mainstream and it sucks
Still have a soft spot for these from when I was young.😎
Could you imagine if this and the probe took off like they wanted!! We would be talking about front FWD hellcats today 😂
Not at all. Imports owned this era, and the majority were FWD. Chrysler didn't even have a pony car in the segment of the Camaro and Mustang all during the 90's and 00's. Majority of their lineup was FWD. RWD will always have its place tho. Like the Viper.
@@LynxStarAuto exactly
Yeah and, if in the Probe, Ford had shoehorned the S.H.O. V6 from the top Taurus in front of the 5-speed, would have been notable yet with a fat dollop on top of torque steer. Possibly later, maybe find room for forced induction as well if a little bay massaging were found to accomodate. That not to knock that the Probe's 4-cylinder turbo debut had some respectable scoot within contemporaneous context. Pontiac had a couple Fiero testbed/mules they were using to explore the same - AWD and turbo charging V6s along with and AWD as well as 4WS/ 4 wheel steering (like Preludes and MX-6s) for improved handling. Also have wondered how coming traction control, newer generations of ABS and, eventually, selective braking for cornering control could have eventually raised these vehicles' performance to next tier.
That noise... lovely
Sounds damn good . Better than any camaro or trans am of that era
I had a 4 banger and a V6 2.8L. The 6 was pretty cool.
I test drove a 1989 Beretta Gt at 16 years old at George Matick chevorlet lol. I almost totalled it on the test drive. First brand new car I ever drove
I inherited my family's Corsica hatchback. When he closes the door and hearing the sound of the clunk and rattle, brings me back.
I was made in 10/86 also 🤩👍🏽 legends were born in 86
Same here, man I wish they had put these into production back then could you imagine what the 90's would have been like with these engines/cars??? At least this one survived.
I had a 3.1L Beretta it was a great little car I couldn't imagine a V8 in one be pretty wild
Man i miss my 91 Pontiac 6000. What a great car. Damn thing had 320,000 miles on it when I sold it. 3.1L v6
This thing is sweet. I had a Berretta when I was younger. Loved that car.
I have an old issue of Hot Rod that has all 3 of these prototypes in it... in addition to a few other prototype vehicles. Love the fact i finaly get to see one of run! Thank you so much for that!
What month/year or issue #? Are there uploads online?
@@That_Handle I have no idea on any of that info right now. I'm not exactly sure where I have the issue at right now to look up the info. I can tell you that the articles title was called "Beyond the Toy Box" if I'm remembering correctly.
@@That_Handle I just looked it up, the article is in the June 1998 issue of Hot Rod.
Damn that is one nice vehicle! Those flares
Are awesome too!
Im impressed. That sound tho! 👌 imagine if GM adopted that motor and maybe even made this this RWD from the factory and actually replaced the f body or even sold along side of it. Like a poor mans camaro to the poor mans corvette 🤔. Either way sick find
As a RX7 guy I have to say this is cool as hell. Love the sound of that V8
I had a 90 Beretta GT many years ago with the 3.1L V6. I found a wrecked GTZ at one of the wreckers in town and got the body kit for cheap. I had a body shop fix it and install it for me and my uncle painted it a custom colour he created called Starburst Blue. Similar to the colour on your Feretta. I would have LOVED to have had a V8 in mine. I wish Chev would have had that as an option cause it would have been a nice rival to the Fox body mustangs back in the late 80's early 90's.
Owned a 88 GT V6 as my first car. Seen this car in Charlotte at street car takeover, and snapped some pics. Had no idea about the motor until recently. Pretty cool.
That sound is awesome!
Pretty cool car, sounds amazing. They already went with custom BBS they should have gave them some negative offset instead of putting the spacer on it.
I have read about these cars, I believe in hot rod years back?? Just never knew whatever became of them. Extremely satisfied to see at least somebody has this one and I believe you said the twin-turbo as well was still around. Such a great piece of performance car history. While this car never made it, I'm sure engineering from it went to use elsewhere in the company.. thank you for sharing this with us
On a side note, as a GM owner myself, I hate that they still use those same freaking Lugnuts that the stupid covers come off of you need to carry an 18 in your trunk🤬
I was in my early 20's when they were new. Check out the beretta gtu. Used to take camaros, vettes and stangs when tuned and fitted with good rubber. But nothing could touch our beloved Dodge omni glh turbos. Nothing. Check it out.
Yes the AWD Twin Turbo concept is safe and comfortable in my garage. :)
The sound that comes from that car I love. I love the car all together with the V8 in it. I had 4 Beretta's in my life and I loved every single one of them. Love the 2.8 an the 3.1 that came in them very reliable engines
There are Olympic rowing teams that are impressed by the length of those shifter throws. (great vid)
Chevy missed the boat on this one . If they would have put these into production they would have sold a chit load of them . I know I would have bought one . Isuzu’s
V-8 sounded good as well .
I'd bet they had a second engine on a stand and found it would die before 30k or something like that. Not saying this isn't cool, but the development stopped for a reason and I'm not sure "because we already had the Camaro" was entirely it.
I recall being at the MPG back in '93 or '94 and someone was driving around in a V8 Beretta. Not sure if it was this car because if memory serves me correct, the car I saw was black.
The sound of that engine though - it's exhilarating.
The things is so raw. Love it
Pumped up to see this!!!
We figured there would be no better way to kick off 2021 than with more Feretta!! Hopefully it’s a hit again! We still love it that’s for sure 🤩🏁
I need you to get the 4 digit engine code that's on the side of the block. All Isuzu blocks have it. I may be able to decipher it, I have a hunch it will start with 8V.
As far as your transmission goes, it's a very common transmission. Research the Geo Storm/Spectrum or Isuzu Impulse/Stylus/I-Mark 2nd gen.
@@Shutterfuel
Take it to Hoonigan and burn some tires.
@Infamous Grizzly it's not a stamp. It's cast into the block.
@Infamous Grizzly that's not what I explicitly stated. You misread my statement entirely. Every Isuzu block has a 4 digit code. What you're inferring and what I said are 2 separate things.
I had a Beretta GT back in the day. LOVED that car.
When I was in high school everyone had cavaliers, sunbirds, Berettas, Grand Prixs. GM made great cars in the late 80s-early 90s. I drove a '68 Grand Prix but when I started college I needed something with better mileage so I got an '89 Sunbird GT with a 5 speed. That was a fun little car but my buddies' Sunbird Turbo was even better. I also had a friend with a Cavalier Z24 and one with a Beretta GT. But the king was my buddy who had a rare '90 Grand Prix with the 3.1 Turbo. You never see any of these cars any more.
I am so happy to see this car getting used. So many of these type of amazing cars are put away and never get the chance to rip down the road.
And far too many were crushed.
This is one of the COOLEST things I've ever seen.
That thing sounds gorgeous!
Never knew this car existed and it's only a few miles away from where I live 😄. Thumbs up and thanks for sharing.
Damn that's a nice a cool car man... Had a Beretta way back... but this one is the Ultimate version, it sounds so perfect... glad you saved it

This is amazing. I drove a Beretta in highschool. Looks like you're near Cincinnati as well which is also cool.

I don't know if I'm mistaken but it has a special sound 🤩 music to my ears
THIS WITH AWD WOULD BE NUTS!!!
I'm glad this dude shared this I had no clue this car existed
There’s a reason why the Beretta went instinct. Let’s keep it there aight
I think you mean extinct and it was because of lack of innovation. It was a fantastic platform and I beat quite a few ricers in my GTZ. miss that car terribly
Man, that car looks like fun to drive!👍
