Dude! I worked in the Warranty Dept of a major dealer in 1995. They had this car as a trade-in and I got to drive it for a few weeks, while they readied it to be sold. I wanted to buy it so badly, but one of the salesmen snatched it out from under me. 😢
It has been really hard to find anything about this car since then, because everyone shows different bodies. This is the 1st time I've seen the exact same car I drove. Thanks for posting this!!
My Dad bought my mom a Burgundy 1988 Baretta GT for her birthday. Every option. She loved that freaking car. I can't remember that car ever being in the shop except one time to change the alternator.
I had the same car, but a 1989 with a 5-speed. My first car out of college, which made it special to me. Loved it, even though it was very unreliable. If you know anyone with an old Beretta, it might be worth restoring. I can only fine ONE for sale in the entire USA, and that's at the Volo Car Museum in Volo, Illinois.
This is by far the coolest car I've been picked up at the airport in :D. Brian is a stand-up guy, thanks for featuring his GTZ! Now that you have the Beretta bug hopefully we see you at a future Berettafest ;).

Great vid! I owned a white 1989 Chevy Beretta GTU with the 2.8v6 multi-port injection 5spd which was set-up like the Indy Beretta without the low deck spoiler (mine was raked) & the Indy seats that I actually purchased but never used! Also I had the sportier side mirrors (like the Indy) that really gave it a sporty look! Loved that car & it got lots of looks for sure! The exhaust rumble was surprisingly raspy for its set-up & I loved cold starts! I actually raced my friend 1988 Camaro V8 & hung with him til around 65 & I out ran the lumina with the bigger 3.1 & smoked it! The interior was the weak point poor plastics & weak factory glue but hey it was the late 80's & it was a great bargain back then!
Had a 92 GTZ loved that car. I would love to own another. A quasar blue like this one would be top of my list
The rarest color to find especially for Brian's 93 only other rarest color that year was garnet metallic also known as burgundy I had a 90 that was garnet I miss it have a black 90 gtz now

First car was a GTZ, black w black wheels. Red Chevy bow tie was the only thing not black. So stealthy and fast with a 5 speed stick. I miss it !

This thing is absolutely amazing, mint condition too. I found a 91 beretta GT (Not the manual 5 speed) auto but it was like unbelievable in the price for the condition it was garage kept with under 100,000 KM's and I purchased it about 7 years ago, sadly hard times meant hard measures and she was gone. The absolute unique build and look of this vehicle is unreal for its year and god do I regret and miss it so much.

My 1st car was a 91 GTZ loved that car. Bought it for $100 bucks. Had it for 4 years and the timing chain snapped. 😢

My step mom had a white beretta z26 - and I absolutely loved that thing, I wish I could find one and buy it for a little project car. I think these cars just scream 90’s and I love it!

Searched for beretta on google and your video pops up first. I like your demeanor, so I subbed!
My first brand new car was a 88 Beretta GT, with the 5-speed manual. A whopping 130hp, but with the stick, you could make that engine work! Torque steer was an issue though; had to be aware of it and counter. Had to 90k, sold it to a work friend; he drove it to 150k with only one clutch replacement.
One of the coolest things about the GTZ's were the color matched wheels. It's slick but it would look so much cleaner with the stock wheels in that beautiful blue color. Either way i had a white one and i love them, but i wrapped mine around a tree trying to break the land speed record on a country backroad. :(
Can't fit the Wilwood brakes under the factory wheel. The new wheels and tires are also lighter than the originals to help save unsprung weight

I had a white one with the white wheels with only 71k on the clock back in the early 2000s....wish I never sold that car and just put it away at my dad's place until now....miss that car dearly...I will own another one one day!

I used to love this car. This is was my 2nd choice option behind the Pontiac Grand Prix. I couldn't afford either so I end up buying 3 Grand Am. One had that Quad 4 engine. Being so young at time I blew motors in each all 3 Grand Am's and the following Grand Prix GT I own I threw a rod. But that quad 4 engin in my Grand AM I would get then thing up to 100 mph daily going between jobs on a short stretch of highway.
I agree I miss them Sun visor extenders. Also love that steering wheel I drive with 1 hand in 6 position.
No Andy, the Beretta actually was always cool, and it was the coolest/most interesting/best looking of all the GM FWD cars of the 80’s and 90’s.
This Z is definitely gnarly but the best version was the 92 (best gearing w/ full output - 93 lost 5hp due to changes in the head for emissions requirements).
But great in depth vid on this slept on and rare car… well done.
Beg to differ. 1990 GTZ was the highest horsepower Quad 4, at 180. I had one. The 91 was 175 and the 1992 was 170. 93 went to Airbags, ABS and the redesigned dash. I had a black one, and it was my first new car. Paid 13,100 USD for it.
Unfortunately, a lady turned right in front of me and totaled it. It wasn't quite 2 years old, and had less than 20K miles on it. I really wish I still had that car.
@@atheplummer I’m sorry just about everything you said is wrong (I’m a Beretta Almanac, I know these things. I also know because I have an 89, 90, 93, and 95),
90-92 had 180hp.
93 had 175hp.
94 had 170hp.
92+ had ABS.
91+ had the redesigned dash/interior and airbags.
92 was best GTZ because it had best gearing and still 180hp.
@@IvyMike551 I guess I stand corrected. Once I lost my 1990, I fell out of the knowledge. I miss mine, and would love to find another. Been looking on and off for many years, and never been able to find a suidable replacement.

I had a 1987. It was a base model with the 2.8 engine. It was a good car until I totaled it in 1990. My cousin also had a 1987. Her's lasted a pretty long time, I think.
my old man had a s10 with the 2.8 v6 those engines are unstoppable

Also made GTZ Corsicas 3.1 with the sporty 4spd. They made 4cyl 3spd, 3.1 4spd, and 3.1 sporty 4spd. Grey black trim, red interior. These GTZ came Red,Blue, and Grey with black trim, with Grey, red, or blue interiors. Berettas had stick shifts and bunch of engines over years. Probe slayers haha

It also sounds really very good for a 4 cylinder I have to point out.
The highest HP NA 4 cyl GM made. 180HP in the GTZ with the Quad4 2.3, and they made 190 in the Olds W41 version.
Engine came out 10-20 years too early. Distributer-less in 1990 with a less than $50,000 car!!
I had a 90 gtz with the ho quad 4 and the 5 speed I had exhaust and cold air intake it was alot of fun to drive. I had 40 series flowmaster mufflers on mine

My 1990 Beretta GT 3.1 V6 had a 5 speed manual transmission, not an automatic. The automatic transmission was optional.
Saw one weeks ago in a mechanic shop on N McArthur in okc

Hey Brian, if you ever want to sell this, let me know. I fell in love with my first car…a 90 GTZ, money pit shitbox and still love the GTZ. The problem is, they aren’t survivors like a lot of other cars. And yes, I know the Z26 “looks” the same but we all know it’s not the same. Quad 4 for life right?
What’s crazy is my Colorado Trail Boss turbo 4 banger is 310hp w 430# torque calibration , that’s more that the 93 Z28 ls1 275 hp
Loved that car as a kid I had a 1991 Chevy Beretta GTZ with a Quad 4 (5spd) back then it was considered a quick car off the line and performed great. By today's standards it would be average at best and my wife's 2013 Cadillac CTS 3.6 would eat it for breakfast. I wonder if you could put a modern GM 3.6 turbo engine in a Beretta, I bet that car would fly with a 5 spd.
A lot of people looked into that kind of swap... all of the OBD1 GM electronics are completely incompatible, you'd need a standalone unit or use the 3.6L electronics. The bellhousing pattern for the 3.6L is completely different from the metric pattern found on the 60° V6, the different Ecotec and the Quad 4 family; which means no easily swappable transmission can be used with the 3.6L.
Your best bet would be to find a High Feature V6 from a FWD application and modify the frame to fit it's huge transmission in there, use the donor car's electronics to run it all. Custom mounts all round, custom length axles.
A 3900 V6 works with the stock V6 5 speed, add a VVT delete kit + Gen 3 60° aftermarket cam, headers and some exhaust porting on the heads and you'll be hard to beat
Or just boost this 200hp N/a 4cyl and save a bunch of money, after you get a better head gasket that is.

The day I drove a Twin Cam powered car, is the day I found a 4 cylinder that doesn't sound like ass. I love those Quad 4's almost as much as my 60° V6's.
Thanks! Does anybody know, tried or could share instruction of how to take a part front seats? I want to swap LTZ Corsica set of seats to my Beretta (base). I’d have take them apart and swap them since Corsica’s front won’t fold forward.
I kinda liked this car at the time. However, what I remember from the 90's is one thing: the fading paint from the roof. It seemed like every Beretta I saw back then had paint issues. Now your Beretta is possibly the best I've ever seen. One other thing ... I hated the door handle! At the NY auto show it annoyed me.

My buddy had a GT with a 3.1 liter
I had this engine in a GrandAm with the 3 speed auto. I believe the autos did not come w the HO version of the engine, they only made 130 hp

It's really pretty simple. They know how much power the torque convert ate up,so they put the bigger motor in to compensate. It's like a rwd car that when is an auto has the shorter and more desirable say 3.91(or whatever shorter band)ratio while the same car in a manual has a much longer ratio of say 2.93. They were just trying to give the people who wanted an auto as close to the "smiles per gallon" the same as a manual driver. I'm sorry but that thing isn't reving to 8k,my e36 bmw only revs to 7500 with a tune

What torque converter? GTZ were all 5 speed, with a 180HP 2.3L Quad4.
Chevy was legendary for allways having cool cars , like the Z24 Calvalier , SSHHR, SS Impala, SS Cobalt,, SS Malibu, SS Camaro, LT1 Camaro, etc, Now they have nothing! Getting rid of the Camaro is absolutely stupid!
