I am officially obsessed with this car and the story behind it. You sir are living my dream in owning possibly the greatest 80's GM oddball of all time.
There will certainly be more videos to come of this car! We will one day be taking an even deeper dive into what this car is truly all about! and it is definitely a dream come true to own!
The fact that this car is so unique is enough for me... What an AWESOME machine! You own something that is ABSOLUTELY RARE. A true collecter's item right here. FEEL PROUD!!!
Actually the Car looks pretty sick, would love to see this as a sleeper rear wheel drive drag car! And I'll never see the berreta the same again! Thanks for sharing!
One day my friend. She will most certainly get the justice she deserves. for now she is tucked away in the garage waiting on me to get my crap together in life haha.
Sweet Jesus, I'm 40yo now, In my 20's and teen's, I owned 5 J-Body Z24 cavalier's all with different options. After my Z24's I wanted to try out a Z26 Baretta, Never happened, and Never even knew of this car. Protect this car with your LIFE MAN!!!!! Screw driving It with that many miles! Someone wants to see It drive, Buy a Green Screen! And If you ever get rid of this car, The ONLY Place It should be offered too, Is the General Motors museum so I can sit with all those rare one off Fiero's that were made. Nice beautiful piece of machinery, Thank you so much sharing.
And Yes I want to hear more about this car, Like how you came in to possession of It. Screw the paint scratches, I bet you thats 87 Iroc Blue paint. but that mileage though!!!!!!
Honestly Tyler , you should consider having some restoration experts truly restore that prototype to pristine condition properly. Have you ever tried to contact any of the original engineers who worked on that vehicle during the time and document it?
I wish man...Eventually this car will get the justice that it deserves. And I had reached out to the GM heritage center awhile back to no avail. Once I get into a better position in my life this car WILL get a full restoration. I just have to do my best until then to keep her from getting into any worse condition. The previous owner did quite a number on the ole girl. I can only do my best with what I have as far as storage space goes at this time. One day I will have a nice garage for this car to be on display in haha. One day.
Glad to see the Feretta ended up in good hands. For all you haters, this is one of one! Theirs no other beretta made from the factory exactly like this. Would have been amazing if GM had a good turbo 4 cylinder to put in these cars and Awd system from the Pontiac 6000 STE. Would had been great competition for the probe, eclipse and integra.
It sounds like a v8 made from one of GM's 60 degree v6's. Which is cool because it has that characteristic sound. GM really tried to get FWD to "take" all the way back in the 70's. It's the corporate types, there's fewer parts, less weight, bottom line cheaper. Not having a driveshaft is less mass to rotate, so there's a plus.
@@AutoTechTyler I'm curious if it's basically 2 of their then existing 4 cyl dohc designs just merged into one block. Isuzu did a lot of designing/rebadging for GM. They mostly got the short end of the stick which is why they left the us passenger car market.
Hello Tyler, also been interested in the origins of the Feretta engine. Have you tried approaching Isuzu Car Club Australia or maybe Lotus to help uncover the background behind it? It may have been one of a number of engine projects that were developed between Isuzu and Lotus Engineering ranging from 4-cylinder, V6, V8 and V12 engines. That inevitably leads to the question of if the Feretta V8 was either a doubled up 1809cc 4XF1, reduced 3.5-litre LT5 V8 (see Isuzu 4200R) or some naturally-aspirated precursor to the 3.5-litre Lotus Type 918 V8 that was said to be an all-new design unrelated to the 900 Series family.
As a huge Isuzu fan and owner of many isuzus, I'm in love with that engine! Feel free to message if you'd like some great resources for sourcing Isuzu stuff for that engine.
Only thing i would do for the Feretta is install 2.5'' stainless steel exhaust with Magnaflow resonator after O2 sensor. Also 2.5'' Y stainless steel. FX Mufflers or other brands such as Vertex and Flowmaster at the back of course. 2.5'' tail pipes with mufflers. 3'' tips 15 degree cut tips if can. Will have no rasp whatsoever. Heavy sound. What i have on my 07 GP special edition package. 3800 actually fix for sound. I had to figure out swapping exhaust parts to get the rasp out. Sounds good for a V6. You have a V8. Should sound great.
Another man of culture i see 😎 Those sharp lines and pointy noses are just too good looking. People need to get over themselves "its fwd so it sucks" bullshit 🙄🤣
Are the timing belts original? Awesome car btw and I can see it ended up in good hands. Mechanic owned is always best with these kind of cars. I’m a mechanic myself and I find the engine very interesting. Would love to get to work on it to bad they only made one.
Exactly ...3.5L V8 displacement designed by the Japanese!, at that time the only V8's they were making for autos was for their buses and mostly they were inline, this is very surprising.
That Feretta was called that due to the v8. Its an F-body based front wheel drive chevy beretta. F for v8 engine like fbody v8's, and feretta for beretta. Nice car.
Man they should have made a least 100 of them um surprised this looks as good as it is this is a Gem get her running perfect again then get her DYNO'ED where all interested to know how much power she makes V8 Manual 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'd be willing to bet that it uses the same mufflers as the w41 Quad4 Achievas and Grand Ams etc... If that's the case I've seen them pop up from time to time amongst the Quad4 folks/market places for exorbitant prices. lol
What kind of transmission does that have in it? The Getrag 282 isn't geared for a DOHC engine at all but your car predates the 284 that made it in the w-bodies for the LQ1 by about 5 years.
From what it looks like it's just like a fiero isuzu 4 speed manual but with 5 forward gears instead. I have yet to dig deep enough to find any type of casting numbers or even what the clutch design is.
@@AutoTechTyler That's probably the prototype to the 284 then, that or the 282 that was attached to the DOHC i4 oldsmobile used around 89-91. Thanks for the response!
Man that would have slayed some 5.0 mustangs in the late 80s. I like it. I had a 86 gta trans am and miss it dearly as a adult. My 86 had the digital dash t tops same rims as these and the 305 TUNE PORT the rear gears were 308. It was a redlight to redlight car but would do 145 easily.
That's what happens when you have somebody I Florida who owned it and left it outside in the Florida sun and rain 🤷 sucks, but at least I can keep it from getting worse
Honestly I'd say it's pretty comparable to an lt1 camaro of the time. I plan to eventually get it to the dyno and also see about getting it weighed to help put things more into perspective.
@@AutoTechTyler awesome cars dude! Maybe a 0 to 60 in the near future of this one in particular? Although I'd understand if you didn't want to beat on it

@@AutoTechTyler I thought my timing chain driving a dummy cam that drives a timing belt was bad. XD At least this car's probably worth the hastle though. Still really cool to see this unusual beast five months later!
This was aimed more at being a replacement for the f body cars which were GMs agressive muscle type of car. Also this car is configured with a transversally mounted compact v8 while the cars you are mentioning were still configured longitudinally with very large v8s and in a massive package. Muscle car is a very broad term so it may have been better to use the term "pony car" in this case.

Looks good. I have a 96 Beretta. The second one I owned. The other was a 95 Beretta. Great car love driving it.
I once had an 89 Chevy Beretta GT and I wish it was as cool as this car, great vid!
My very first car was a 1995 Beretta! It is what made me fall in love with cars.
I love cars like this, great to see that it ended up in good hands! subbed
Thank you! I appreciate the sub. I try to take care of this old girl the best that I can
I had a Beretta z26 In highschool, I miss it so much, I want this thing unbelievably bad
Absolute COOL! I hope you keep that car in good shape. I love it.
I hope to eventually get her into better shape! She was sorely mistreated after leaving GM's hands. Most certainly needs a restoration.
Awesome video
My 1st car was a 92 Corsica, so this amazing Beretta I find fascinating
I would definitely hold on to that car.
For sure! Plan to eventually give it a full restoration when I get into a better position in life!

When I worked at GM, there was a story about a Beretta that Yamaha made a V8. Very impressive.
Amazing. Had to sub!! This car is one of a kind! Like you said, the only ferretta ever!!
Thanks for the sub!

Gotta collect that! Thank you for sharing 🏆
I wanted to buy that ferreta when it sold. glad some some one is taking care of it.
Shame the guy who initially bought it abused it. I know who has the RWD Beretta, also has a few base model convertibles.
Wow, I just seen this for the first time today. Amazing car. Have you ever tried to reach out to Isuzu for any info on the motor?
I have not reached out to them, but I did try to reach out to the GM heritage museum awhile back with no luck there.
Bring this to beretta fest 2023
Depends on where it is this year. Haven't looked to see what location got voted on.
That thing is wicked!
If it ever needs engine work it would be awesome to get the prototype engine fully blueprinted to where it could be reproduced if someone wanted.
Now that would be sweet! I really want to dig into and see what all the actual specifications are.

Well honestly man I love all Berettas! Haha I like the quad 4 for what it was at the time it was released, but like the V6 for the reliability it has.
I'd be wondering if it needs race gas, any idea on compression specs?
Honestly not sure on the compression ratio. I've been running ethanol free 93 octane, but race gas wouldn't be a bad idea regardless!
Should do another update on it. See your getting famous on fb

Not yet. Took the covers off to inspect the belts, but have not gone through with removing them to match them up with something.

Probably no chance in hell to try to buy it off you in guessing lol
Not a chance haha
The 2006/7 Monte Carlo was the closest thing to this Beretta
If it sounded like that in 1987, i would of bought it over a camaro or firebird....
Let’s see that Trans Am
Haha maybe one of these days. I'm saving that project for my 4 year old daughter to work on with me.
