Hey guys, I really hope you enjoyed the video as it was a bit of a disaster to make. It was really fun to play and talk about an antigravity racer, especially since I never directly covered this genre before. I look forward to seeing fans of the antigravity racing in the comments!

woow when you were showing the crafts (6:07) it made me remember this tradeoff regarding wing length (especially on titan class): Longer means more maneuverability but it also means that you are more likely to catch a tree/opstacle on narrow maps. It was such a difficult choice 😂 No way i still held that in my brain for like 16 years, i was a kid back then enjoying this game.

Thanks for reviewing my favourite anti gravity racer by far.
I only have and play the x360 version (I only play physical games on my consoles).
First I want to point out that strafing (and dodging as well by double tapping the same button) is very important, especially in later cups to nail cornering and dodging stuff more efficiently (i have it layed out so that X and B are mapped to that functionality and makes a world of difference (to me at least). The base controller scheme worked against me, I cant be the only one)).
Also, tilting the nose of the ship up or down to gain -or lose air for a longer or shorter amount of time depending on the situation can make a lot of difference. Even just these 2 mechanics make the game stand out far above the rest of what the genre has to offer imo.
The largest ship is incredible in combat focused modes and can withstand a lot more push and friction from enemies and objects before it loses traction, all item pick ups ammo are also doubled for this ship.
I prefer a smaller array of ships to choose from when that means they differ significantly from each other, which imo is the case for this game. Adding to that the performance, visual and physical upgrades/downgrades and visual difference of the same ship that the costumization has to offer with excellent nuances like; larger wings for ex can be better performance-wise but will often hinder you in making tight corners because the wings are more prone to getting stuck behind something with their wider span (map knowledge is key here where you know if you can effort that equipment or taking a certain path in a map or not).
    I adore this game but 3 things that hinder the game the most for me (in the x360 version) is;
    - Dodging and strafing are bound to the same button, so it often happens you'll dodge in the direction you want to strafe at which are 2 totally different functionalities. It still blows my mind they didn't think/or had time to implement dedicated buttons for left and right dodging (left right on right stick is unused and lb and rb as well if you have my controller scheme) but instead implemented it as a double tap on the strafe buttons.
    - No gamma slider. Seriously, I can deal with the sometimes hideous UE3.0 gloom effect but the dark areas in certain maps are almost to the point of unplayable... almost.
    - rubberbanding. The game's rubberbanding can feel cheap in later tournies but its not impossible, still i think this feature needs to die a slow and painful death in videogames, it almost always gets abused by the devs.
That being said, I love this unique racer and thanks again for bringing light to this amazing game.

I didn't mention the up and down tilting because some other antigravity racers have it, like Redout 2. Plus, you need to do it far less in EX because of the physics changes, so I didn't think it was all that necessary to mention.
Also, if you can run EX on the RPCS3 emulator, I'd recommend that regardless. You should definitely try it out since you already love the 360 version.

The best thing of this game for me was the fact that, back in the day, I played the whole campaign on the splitscreen mode with my friends. Really good stuff!

Interesting title, thanks for covering it. Some of the stuff you brought up reminded me of a really old game by Bullfrog, called Hi-Octane from 1994.

I really appreciate your commentary on the 360 version. I'm going through the 360 marketplace to try and buy as much as I can before it closes in July and I saw Fatal Inertia available. Given how much I love WipeOut and crazy arcade racers in general I gave the demo a try. I genuinely could not believe how bad it was with the insane difficulty, atrocious physics and not much else to praise. Even from your footage the PS3 version looks much better. Great video Alex!

Definitely give EX a try if you can. I think you'll like it a lot more!
EDIT: Also, I do want to add that the demo for Fatal Inertia is worse than the final game. The demo's performance is really bad, and the physics are worse. Still, I don't recommend the Xbox 360 version.

i wonder could the emulator be responsible for the performance issues or did people complain when playing natively as well
whenever you emulate anything on rpcs3 its always good to use the recomended custom settings on the wiki

    • @GamerAlexVideos

The performance issues I talked about is it running on the PS3. You can see in those parts that I switched to actual PS3 footage. The emulator ran the game way smoother.

Take this games mechanics an make it like Fzero 99 but its more EX 35
    that would be so perfect

Never knew this one, maybe because I skipped most PS3 releases (besides GoW3 and the motorstorm serie).
Looks like a decent antigrav racer you could buy on steam for a few bucks (not 30 tho lmao).

There was sadly no PC port for this game, which admittedly would have made this video a lot easier to make if there was. Plus, this game didn't seem to get the most media attention, and being digital only probably didn't help getting its name out there.

There's quite a few digital only PSN/XboxArcade experiments that went under the radar.
Glad to see some of those in motion thanks to videos like yours.

When I complained about the performance, that is footage from the PS3. The game runs great on the emulator for me.
