  • In this video you can watch me clean the whole house from top to bottom before we go away to Cornwall for the week. Because there’s nothing worse than coming home to a messy house after you’ve been on holiday! I also have a ramble about parenting and growing up messy. I hope you enjoy!

It is really refreshing to see someone who is struggling and overcoming! We all know what a clean house looks like, but getting it there when you're not a perfect person is the issue. Thank you for walking us through what works for you. I know it helps me!

There was no internet when I was bringing up my children. How I wish there had been! I would have found vlogs like this a godsend. Re tidying up, I suppose we all have to tidy up to some extent, but it should never come before children’s happiness. I read once “your kids won’t remember the days the house was super-tidy, but they will remember the days you took time out to play with them, take them to the park, etc”.

When it comes to instilling good cleaning habits for children that will last throughout their life, being a role model and showing them how to accomplish things is much more important than having strict standards.
Your kids getting involved in the cleaning voluntarily is a perfect way to illustrate how your behaviors are positively influencing them. As they get older, that's when implementing chores and clean-up expectations are more important for the long term success for you all.
I'm glad for all your commentary and it helps me reflect on my childhood as well as how my parenting can/should be with regards to household maintenance.

I have just found your channel, and what a breath of fresh air its so nice to see someone showing the messy side of their personality ( I have always been the same) . My kids are grown up and left and its just me and I feel so overwhelmed sometimes that I am paralysed, No idea where to start so nothing gets done. Today I have started on my tidying journey and will be watching your videos to help keep me motivated. Thank you

My mom always said (after having 3 girls): “if you to think you’re going to keep everything picked up and picture perfect, then you’ll be doing it 24/7 and that’s not possible, so don’t”. She was right; I tried anyway after having 2 and just about wore myself out. Don’t sweat it - let them be children. I lo e the way you do things! ❤️

    • @remiclog

I had a few months trying this too, the picking up was constant, and I was the most miserable, irritable person to be around. Every time someone left something out of place I’d huff and get stressed. I’d much rather be a chilled and happy mum with a messy house ❤️

Don’t you worry what other people think! Your children will be all grown up in what feels like the blink of an eye, and when they look back on their childhood, their fondest memories won’t consist of how tidy the kitchen was, or if the beds were made up perfect (if at all). Their fondest memories will be the time you spent with them: playing with them, teaching them, laughing with them, listening to them. There will be so much time for catching those dust bunnies when your kiddos have grown and moved out! I love your channel. Have a great holiday and enjoy your family time! Blessings!

I absolutely love love, love, love your videos. I never knew there was a word for struggling to do any task. Executive dysfunction. I could think about wanting to take a walk around my neighbourhood, and that just doesn't happen. Cleaning, it's this huge chore that weighs on my mind. (I grew up with a single mom who didn't encourage to clean by example, or ask I clean the home on a consistent basis. (My brain never thought to clean up by taking initiative..?) We lived very messily my entire life. Sadly, I continue to live just as messy as ever..) I'm doing a lot better when I set out with a determined intention to clean the kitchen or tidying up the living room. In fact, I'm slowly cleaning the house now while trying to find your longer videos. (While TikTok's short video's has gotten so popular with people of all ages to the point other social media platforms try introducing this media format for their webpages, I don't like videos like that). I love your longer videos, and listening to you share pieces of your life. I feel like we would make good friends. While I have my dogs I treat as children, you have your actual children. I'm always supporting you!! - Mary from Smithville, Texas

My mother was the neatnik in our house. I was late more than once to school because I had to go back to make my bed! However, I did learn one thing from her: I always face my hanging clothes and the hangers the same way. I've done it for so long I don't even notice I'm doing it any more! BTW, I have short issues as well. I feel your pain😂. And ignore the parenting haters. As long as your kids are growing up to be kind, polite, functioning contributors to society, you're doing a good job.

I don’t think it’s that simple to teach kids to tidy after themselves, I don’t think it’s fair to make kids miserable and scared to play and have fun.
My grandchildren trash their house too, I do try and persuade my daughter not to buy so many toys, I think they get overwhelmed and don’t know what to play with, but it’s only for a short time, they aren’t kids for long. 😢

How you were parented really does have impact on your life. My parents were incredibly exacting and very scimpy on praise. It was almost impossible to please them. As a result I had severe asthma as a kid (stress-related) and developed into a classic over-achieving perfectionist. 😂 I think it's great your son WANTS to help you. I'm sure you are quick to thank him and be affectionate with him. That just means he'll develop a willing spirit and a sense of accomplishment that will make him a great husband someday. I confess, I did roar with laughter (sympathetically of course) over the prawns-on-vacation disaster. I feel a little guilty. Just a little. Anyway, thanks for a fun video, and greetings from across the pond in sunny Florida. 😊

Don't be overly sensitive. Folks just speak from their own pain and experience. At one point in my career I figured out that often when someone criticized me, sometimes there was a grain of truth in it. I learned a lot and got better and better. I also learned not to take things personally and to usually let deliberate unkindness and meanness go. My experience was that most people didn't;t mean to be unkind--they actually wanted to help, in their own awkward way. Please stop putting yourself down--you are not messy and lazy. I see you as an overcomer who gets up every day and does what's necessary to make a good life and home for your family. My older son turned out kind of messy, in spite of my efforts (I had no cooperation, only opposition froths father), but when he married I had a talk with his bride. I stood her in front of a mirror and asked her to look at her forehead and tell me if there was any writing on it. She said No. I said RIGHT! It does NOT say SLAVE or SERVANT. I TOLD HER I KNOW YOU LOVE HIM, BUT IF YOU REALLY LOVE HIM, YOU WILL MAKE HIM A BETTER MAN BY REQUIRING RESPECT AND COOPERATION IN THE HOME. I also said I was sorry I hadn't done a better job (I felt part of it was my uncooperative husband's fault, but didn't involve her in my personal woes). It took a while, but they just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Their home is not a magazine cover, but it is warm, inviting, and comfortably neat and organized. Everyone (including their two sons) takes part in keeping things tidy. They share the load. There is peace and harmony there, and guests, friends, and family are welcome. I'm 77 yrs old, and I speak from experience.

Hi Remi 🥰 I'm a new subscriber that found your 'How to tidy a messy house when you just don’t know where to begin!' video.
I'm a 68 yr old mother & grandmother living in the US. I recently moved into a small apartment and am looking for ways to finish unpacking boxes to organize it.
🎈🎈 I would like to commend you on your parenting. You are spot on with what you're doing 🥰 I too have 3 children that were close in age like yours are. (All grown up now) I can guarantee you that when you're children grow up, they won't remember a clean house as much as they will the love, family time and experiences of being home.
A house needs to be home...not a showpiece. Yes we need to keep it as clean and tidy as possible, but giving our children time is so incredibly important for them to know they're loved and can rely on you to be there when they need you. ❤
If you feel like doing some vlogs of you cooking, shopping or vacation time, please include them too. They're also so much fun and will give you a break from doing voiceovers on cleaning videos.
Thank you so very much. Have a wonderful week.

Girl 🙌 I have 2 boys, my 8 year old has Asperger’s and type 1 diabetes and my 5 year old was born bilaterally deaf, has autism and ADHD. Thanks to my boys I have sought my own autism and ADHD diagnoses. I have also been diagnosed with OCD. I’m “home” and the house should be clean, but as with your little Cutie, Ike (cool name!!), my youngest is fondly known as Captain Chaos and boy does he live up to that name!!! I’ve had sinusitis for over 2 weeks, husband works 12-13hr days and now now we’re on another half term… 🤦🏼‍♀️ Managed a HUGE chunk yesterday (we very lucky to have a 3 bed house, but also have a conservatory & Salon), which means extra rooms to keep clean and tidy out of of Captain’s greasy mitts!! Life isn’t easy, but we get done what we can, when we can. Yesterday’s efforts haven’t carried over into today, but it’s bearable. As they say “a woman’s work is never done…”. Glutton for punishment that I am I am SOOOO broody for a 3rd baby… husband isn’t keen… 😂 Keep up the great work and don’t let people get you down. Until you have walked in the person’s shoes you can’t judge!! My house can look like yours in a day, so it’s not always about “letting it get that way”. My ONLY stipulation in this house is not to leave rubbish in rooms and plates, other than that the kids have free rein and PLENTY of toys, despite my constant clear outs and donating…

Remi, I think you’re a great Mum! I like your voice too. I’m sorry you felt that way growing up. Sometimes we don’t always do the right thing, but you’re right, you are doing it your way. Keep up the good job. Love your videos ❣️👍

I’m always holding on to what my mother used to tell me: once you cleaned up you won’t know if the mess was from three days or three weeks. Gives me a lot of peace.

Hi Remi, great inspirational videos. I'm truly amazed at your wisdom, your positivity, your love for your family and this community.
    Thanks for sharing this.
A tip if I may : about your full sugar coke drinking, maybe you could gradually mix some diet coke with normal coke , increasing it week by week. My own experience with sugar substitutes as I'm a type 2 diabetic, has taught me that our taste buds adapt gradually over time. Enjoy your holiday and looking forward to your decluttering video. 🎉❤

Cornwall is on our next area to visit in England. All the TV shows & videos I've seen of Cornwall are just too too gorgeous. I've been lucky enough to visit quite a few areas of the UK, but of course there's still lots to cover :-) Hope you have a brilliant holiday.

Love your channel and content. I can relate on so many levels. I’ve just got to start watching in the morning so I’ll have great motivation when I need to get busy instead of at nite when I need to go to bed. Love to your family & keep the videos coming on RUclips.
