Taiwan: Under the Threat of China | The Battle for Taiwanese Independence (Documentary)

  • Taiwan is one of the most advanced democracies in the world. It’s also one of the most threatened. Despite being one of the world’s leading economies, having its own president, government, flag and anthem, no country recognises it. The problem is that China has always considered Taiwan to be one of its own provinces. Even today, President Xi Jinping does not rule out using force to claim it back. But what’s different now is that both sides seem to be becoming more militant…
For decades, the majority of people in Taiwan wanted nothing to change. They were careful to avoid offending China while enjoying the freedoms and lifestyle of not living under a dictatorship. Wayne is one of those Taiwanese people who wants this status quo to continue. His business depends on China but he doesn’t want reunification. “Everyone knows it, Taiwan is an independent country… but you don’t have to shout it from the rooftops, that’s all…”.
But since the 2014 Sunflower movement, a majority of young people are increasingly demonstrating for independence, even if it means China cracking down. Having seen what happened in Hong Kong, they believe they need to be more proactive. “We are a democratic and free country. Whereas they are an authoritarian country … we must oppose China and become independent.” explains Roy. On the other side CUPP, an extremist pro-Chinese party, is actively pushing for reunification. Founded by a mafia gang leader, members have been convicted for attacking and harassing independence supporters.
Today the Taiwanese are at a turning point in their history. Will the de facto independence of their country become official? Or will Beijing do everything in their power to annex the small island?
This documentary was produced by Premiere Lignes and directed by Bruno Gex. It was first released in 2022.

Taiwanese politicians & investors should stop negotiation & consultation with Beijing. They should conduct their own election, legislation, democratic judicial functions & investment efforts without any influence from CCP. Otherwise those political & business compromised with Beijing would led Taiwan to the fold of Beijing ending up like the HK govt under the control of China in the process.

Just don't declare independence. HK had a democratic compromise in 2014 until the U.S. interfered. What happened in HK was caused by the U.S, which is pure poison. They f up Ukraine in much the same way. Can't stop meddling.

Did anybody notice how lazy the guys were that were doing the sweeping and the tiny little brooms they were using. This would be a situation where every second would count You probably want a machine to clear the road or a truck or something but if you had guys sweeping it leave me out there moving their asses If it was any other military they'd be running and moving quickly you're supposed to be simulating a situation where your country is in complete disarray and about to potentially be lost and you've got these tiny little brooms and guys that look like they're barely want to sweep. You would think they'd at least have bigger brooms and they'd be motivated to sweep up quickly and efficiently. I hope that's not how they would act in a real military conflict situation. Please read the Shanghai Communique (an agreement authored and signed/re-signed, by 3 US Presidents), the US State Depts main page on Taiwan..or (gasp!) Taiwan’s own constitution and an oath to the Motherland to maintain the One Country; Two Systems agreement. OR you could read UN, NATO, WHO and most other intentional or individual country’s policies on Taiwan.
ALL of these documents recognize Taiwan as a part of China. The first 2 stress that the US will NOT interfere with China’s domestic issues , especially cross-strait issues with Taiwan. The ONLY reasons reunification has come up in recent years are A. OUR country keeps bringing it up and B. Because WE continue to violate both written and verbal agreements, selling arms to the Taiwanese separatist govt to…fight against their motherland? We’ve even had troops on CHINESE SOIL this past year..and they weren’t there as tourists.
This is all a manufactured conflict for the US to maintain Hegemony and reserve currency status. Our media gets paid to publish negative stories about China and punished if they put out a positive story.
The number of people in Taiwan who don’t support ANY interference by the US is rising quickly along with the “status quo” candidate who is against US involvement. Some signs at recent protests read “we REFUSE to be the next Afghanistan!”
Also, China certainly isn’t perfect; but guess what folks, we are being lied to. China isn’t the evil China dictatorship we continually say they are. In 2013, my now late son was with Jimmy Carter as they oversaw the election in which Xi was ELECTED (he was re-elected again last year). My precious boy lived, worked and traveled through China from 2008-2019. He was preparing to return when he had a stroke 2 years ago. China is oppressive, un-democratic, censered, etc than most Western countries.
But hey..peace isn’t profitable. We’ve contracted for $hundreds of billions of US Taxpayer monies Taiwan’s arms, tanks, planes, ships and military training. And with an election year next year in both Taiwan and the US? My country will do whatever is needed to keep a US Arms friendly President in office…and this terrifies me.
Please listen to Fermube (Are We There Yet-Fernando), Cyrus Janssen, Jerry Goode, Gweilo60, Carl Zha, Brian Berletic (the New Atlas)..especially Cyrus who I believe is back living in Florida but still owns homes and a business in China. He presents facts, documents, etc.
We have GOT to change the narrative

The big clue is that you never actually SEE the narrator. It can be very manipulative when influencing a viewer the way you want... I like this British person's artificial voice. The female is cool too. Many RUclips channels are AI-generated.

Taiwan became independent of China when the people who now call themselves Taiwanese left China to form their own independent democratic nation. A country is not just a piece of land. It is a people with a unified belief in their right to exist independently. They are no longer part of a China that no longer exists for them. The Chinese Communists killed that link years ago when they drove their grandparents and great grandparents out and stole their land, belongings, rights and destroyed the historical values of China as a nation.

      B. an elected government,
      C. the right to protest
      D. it’s own currency.
