Absolutely. They could spend hundreds of millions , mobilise the army and take out all the big movers in the trade . Its been done before . Usually the supply of drugs is interrupted for maybe a day , sometimes a matter of hours . The existing gangs are conducting a war for dominance in the market and their replacements are queued up waiting for heir chance. The Met have in the past acknowledged their inability to make any systemic change in London and stated their operations ofen precipitated a rash of serious violence and killings until a new criminal hierarchy ia established . The sheer amount of money involved has set new standards of police corruption . Theres the corruption in the drug squad and then theres the corruption in all the other departments . Tney are two totally different things . Often a gang operative with a good legend will apply for a job , going through recruitment , rookie cop life and put in for ds after some years on the force. All the while in the pay of the gang. All this so the gang has intelligence on ds operations as well as having the ability to introduce intelligence detrimental to their criminal rivals . Its a racket

She had been told by other friends there were jobs in Amsterdam in Hotels in housekeeping so off she went to seek out one of these. On arriving on a hot day she walked into a pub to buy a soft drink, thats where her story ended. At least her plans ended and the Pimps started. She remembers nothing from that day but spent the next YEAR was spent in a Brothel being fed drugs and sweets. Somehow she got away and made her way home to UK. She asked a BBC journalist who was known for uncovering such criminals to do a TV programme on it 😢 Her brain was damaged from lack of food and the drugs she was forced to take. 🙏🙏🙏

I have been in various places in Belgium, always lived here. As a comment said, the mocro-mafia holds it all. I've witnessed pretty wild stuffs. We knew a group of friends who tried to fuck with them, with false money mixed with true cash, for something like 2kg H and coke. We had a call from them while they returned back, while driving, just saying "we are in big troubles man need to get out of highway and hide", they pushed the car on the sideroad, throwing gas, they where still stuck in the car, and the mocro light the car up in fire. They came from Nl back to Belgium to kill those 3 people in front of anyone..crazy. Around Bruxelles, there where many murders in a few week, one involved a bazooka ..wtf? Grenades and guns from the Serbian war.. I was proposed a glock with 2 charger and a box of 30 bullets for only 300€, for a "clean one", it's 500. In a short time the mocro went immensely powerful and not just here in Belgium or Netherlands, they are more and more present in Spain, France even Germany, they are growing their influence like crazy. Seriously I can tell it wasn't like that a decade ago, the mocro was still present, but in a decade they eliminated all concurrence. And of course politicians are involved everyone knows. Good thing is you have good quality drugs not expensive haha. From Belgium it gets dispatched in France and so one, of course quality gets bad the more hands handle and sell it. I saw this while I was still an addict. Before it was mostly Turkish and so bringing H, now they work for the mocro, not without ease (deaths). Come see the EU capital hahaha you will be surprised how fucked we are haha. All good people.
They may find drugs attractive if they are priced out of home ownership or rentals, or are struggling to pay their basic utility bills "even if they have a purposeful life"

Peter de Vries - the Dutch Veronica Guerin! It would be interesting to see a similar documentary about Ireland. Can't say we are at the same level of gang violence that Belgium and the Netherlands have - even the notorious Kinahans have only murdered a fraction of people from what I can see based on this documentary. But, Ireland is also regarded as a major drug traffickng hub, and supposedly there is a cocaine epidemic among the Irish middle class.
If you do not combat against drugs, it potentially can led a country to move towards becoming a narco-state is a significant concern. The proliferation of drug cartels and the influence they can wield over political systems, law enforcement, and economies is a real threat, as seen in some Latin American countries or some cities in the US. In this context, the "war on drugs" might be seen as necessary to prevent organized crime from gaining such power.
No western european countries arrest drug addicts. The war is on traffickers and cartels. This isn't the 70s anymore, nobody gets arrested for doing drugs.

It would be better to legalize drugs and get the drug market under control. So there is the possibility that drug addicts get cocaine or other drugs on prescription. I don‘t see an other possibility.
Harder and longer jail sentences? Also, working 10-12 hours while in jail would be good for society in general - people wouldn't need to pay their stay in prison, they will do it by themselves. If someone is foreigner he should be expelled from country after prison time.
@JaStvarno What does that have to do with drug-trafficking? Prison, however harsh, is not a deterrant for greedy or forced traffickers. No punishment can stomp it out if the demand and way is there - and it always will be. The heads very rarely get caught and there will always be more risk-takers for that money, irrespective to what happens in prisons. They are the ones who usually have the greatest autority in prisons too, depending on location and person. Whatever the solution (legalisation or fascism), prison slavery is not it.

Legalizing all drugs is the way to go - Portugal did it, and it worked. Instantly the criminal cartels go out of business and people can just buy them cheap from a shop. The only reason for criminalization of drugs was to greatly increase the drug profits. Anybody supporting criminalization of drugs is on the side of the cartels. Most people don't want the hangovers, lost jobs, broken relationships, and ill health that drugs bring - the few that do want those things are free to choose them if they wish. As long as it's illegal, profits will continue to fund these types of elements. What a waste of public resources the war on drugs is.

Fact: Consumers will buy the stuff, whether it's legal or not.
Fact: Drugs are really easy to get.
Fact: Profits from illegal transactions fund terrorist organizations. You can call them cartels, mafia, whatever, they are terrorists at heart, plain and simple.
Fact: Funding to police force comes out of society's pocket.
Fact: Police force waste their resources on policing consumers and war on drugs which is unwinnable. (refer to Fact#2 and #3)
Fact: Stigmatizing consumers alienates them from society and creates rifts that are hard to repair. It destabilizes society much more than allowing people to realize addicts will be there whether the government prohibits something or not.
Fact: When you fund the war on drugs you have much less to fund mental help initiatives, social programs, and everything that comes with it (what the inevitable addicts actually need).
Tell me again about poor little parents sleepless nights though, made me chuckle.

What does that have to do with drug-trafficking? Prison, however harsh, is not a deterrant for greedy or forced traffickers.
