The video claims to why both countries want to fight for Taiwan well. No apparent favoritism on one party but just explaining the history fairly. Great video 👍
Why are the US so concerned about a tiny island half way around the world? Do they HONESTLY care for the Taiwanese people? I highly doubt it. They're just looking for a way to assert their dominance.
Neither country cares for the Taiwanese people, after all it's all about money, power and gaining dominance over the Pacific Ocean to expand their territories.
8:41 Looking at that map, how far is the U.S from China?! All Chinese navy bases are in its mainland but the U.S bases are thousands of kilometers away from its border......
This video reminds me all of the decision-making process between superpowers are all about the game theory, farrrrr more tricky and complex then we think. Good video.
“No matter how large a country is, if it loves war, it will perish.” This saying emphasizes that even the most powerful nations will ultimately fall if they are overly aggressive and warlike.
Apparently people forget about the One China policy? China is interested in Taiwan because it is a huge economic, tech, and strategic center. And its their territory. The US, Canada, and Western Europe are interested in Taiwan for the reasons stated above, and to use as a base of operations to destablize the Chinese govt. Saved you like 15mins+.
Brother, you clearly left out some key points in the video. The most important piece of information is that, legally, Taiwan is part of China-not economically. The mainstream opinion in mainland China supports the reunification of Taiwan. The Communist Party cannot give up on Taiwan; doing so would lead to its collapse. Peace or war? Just look at China’s laws regarding Taiwan’s reunification. China has never promised to renounce the use of force to achieve reunification. What the people of Taiwan think is irrelevant; in this world, power speaks louder than words. Mainland China’s strength in East Asia is on par with that of the United States.
@@罗建-g4h The ROC (Taiwan) is a great and amazing democratic country, while the PRC is a dictatorship. They are two completely different countries. Who wants to live in fear? @@holidaywang9406 Stop being naive. Taiwan's democracy is just so-so. The mainland government even claims they're the closest to democracy. What Taiwanese people think about the Taiwan issue has never mattered. Did the Japanese ask for your opinion? Did Chiang Kai-shek ask for your opinion? Taiwan's fate hinges on the power struggle between the mainland and the US.
Taiwan's economy only accounts for 4% of China's GDP. As for the level of science and technology, there should be nothing of value to China. The difference in scientific and technological strength between the two sides is too great, and there is no value for comparison.
Don't blame us, it's Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines that should be worried about China's aggression. It's NOT OUR fight here in the USA. We're only involved because we promised to help our Allies.
I am at 4:38 in the video and no one wants to talk about why US has so many military bases in Asian countries like Japan, South Korea and the Philippines? Doesn't It sound so messed up?
Every government asked or was okay with the US setting up bases there. South Korea and Japan particularly. To be clear, I'm Korean. I'd never want to ever be under Chinese control. I honestly wish they'd ban all chinese travelers but that's a separate issue. Japanese friends, at least from Tokyo don't like Chinese people either nor their government.
My father was a KMT soldier during Civil War between Nationalists and Communists. He came to Taiwan because of the defeat of Nationalists. I must criticize this documentary for not mentioning "the Soviet Union's involvement in the Chinese Civil War" but instead emphasizing the relationship between the United States and Nationalists. One of the reason why Chinese Communist Party could win Chinese Civil War was the Soviet Union
Look at the distance between France and the UK, surely they should be one country?? Yeah we tried that but after many hundreds of years of wars we stopped trying to take over each others countries.
Opinions from me a chinese guy: 1. China has claimed Taiwan as its territory before Taiwan becoming a huge economic entity and world centor of semiconductor. Therefore, it is not due to China’s economic ambitions. 2. The United States has supported Taiwan in its opposition to the Chinese Communist Party since the 1940s and 1950s. There is no doubt that this was China’s civil war, yet the U.S. intervened in the internal affairs of another country for its own interests (like the island chain strategy or other Pacific strategies). I believe this is the main reason for current awkward division situation across the Taiwan Strait. 3. Taiwan was also a dictatorism before, so the saying of protecting ideology doesn't make sense. At least, didn't make sense. 4. China has never invaded any other country, and its friction with neighboring countries is far less than that of other large nations of similar size. The U.S. claims that China expansionist threat, so it blocks the entire entrance to the Pacific of China, which is ridiculous. The Pacific should not be an inner sea of any country. 5. Do people of a region have the right to choose independence by vote? I don't think so. There are many arguments in regions such as the Middle East and Russia-Ukraine. 6. I firmly believe that Taiwan is a part of China, but I oppose launching a war. Taiwanese's human rights, safety and property should be protected. I hope Chinese and Taiwanese can: maintain peace, be open and inclusive, communicate more , and leave the process of integration to time.
If Taiwan is somehow “returned” to China. I highly doubt the CCP would leave freedom of speech to the Taiwanese people even if they have a one country two system policy. HK would be one of the best example.
@@aioi8492 Moreover shouldn’t the country’s destiny be decided by its own people? Although the current situation is more then awkward, it’s best to remain this relationship between China and Taiwan
One nuance that's rarely explained when people mention Taiwan claiming to be the government of China or Taiwan having all these far-flung Qing-era territorial claims (e.g. over Mongolia) is that the Taiwanese government can't _stop_ claiming these things, because if it does, that's tantamount to proclaiming independence. Which might get it invaded. It's an odd situation where a (de facto) country is effectively being threatened to maintain a territorial dispute.
aye, and everytime i hear CCP wumaos saying but but Taiwan claims right over mainland so it is still a civil war! neglecting that they do that because if they amended the constitution to stop saying that the same thing happens
Whatever the name, doesn't matter. Taiwanese voted to remain free and independent. Who in the right mind wants to be governed by China? Who wants to lose their freedom of speech/expression, basic human dignity and Rights? Even Pakistani's, despite being allies China, with all their civil wars, terrorism and economic mess, don't want to immigrate to China, rather prefer to go west. Why? Basic human freedom. West should protect Taiwan.
You got that right. I'd like to believe that the US will remain committed to Taiwan due to democracy, etc. But a more cynical examination points to the idea that once the US feels confident that domestic chip manufacturing meets the need, defense of Taiwan may become a luxury we say we can't afford.
It will take at least a decade for that to happen. Taiwan didn't become a chip powerhouse over night, and U.S isn't going to suddenly become a chip powerhouse in a year neither.
@ Time frame on the scale of world history spanning centuries is not really relevant here. If you want to discuss geopolitical issues as it is happening now, the analytical time frame shouldn't be something longer than 50 years. In fact, even 50 years is too long. Moreover, Trump is about to take over in a few days. We all know how much he dislike the CCP. Can the CCP even last for another ten years?
Will US agree if Kahmiri people or palestinian people demand the same. Why not the general population of whole china (including Taiwan) decides if Taiwan wants to be independent. Thats the peaceful way.
@@hazaonly The PRC have no say my friend. The fact is that there are no internationally treaties, policies or agreements that state Taiwan is part of China
Actually there is a big difference btw China and the US. If China takes America's place, they won't set any military bases abroad because the marginal revenue is low.
If the people of Alaska or Hawaii voted to leave the US? This is only a question, but where does the right of democratic self-determination come into the equation? Should there be a democratic determination, only a military one? Perhaps, if people were willing to talk about these issues, rather that to fly into a rage, there might be fewer problems?
Taiwan produces 50-60% of microchips and 90% of all advanced microchips in the world. If the Chinese successfully unify it will mean Chain will be the biggest producer of microchips. Note: In this day and age microchips are as equal if not more valuable as oil to a modern economy. Should China succeed it would threaten the US economy as a simple blockade in semiconductor shipments could serious hurt the US economy. Due to this risk the US is not willing to allow China to fulfill its wishes of unification.
@DimitriWanyoko-d4c the us has been protecting taiwan ever since the end of the chinese civil war, before microchips were even a thing. That's the only reason Taiwan exists, because the US intervened in their civil war. It's a way for the US to threaten and contain China while spreading American influence.
It could end up that way. But German reunification happened only because the citizenry of both parts were for it. That is not the case with Taiwan, that desire has consistently failed at the ballot box. I think the analogy that better fits your argument in that the Falklands are part of Argentina. But the people actually LIVING there were never for that, so after Argentina invaded 40 years ago, the UK declared war and took it back, on behalf of the territory it had declared it would protect. If your argument is not that reunification should be based on citizen wishes but historical precedent, then were do we stop? Should Sweden or Russia reabsorb Finland, should France demand Germany and Spain in order to recreate the Frakish empire, or should England get the entire western half of France to recreate the Angevin empire, should Italy lay claim to the entire Mediterranean coastline & much more to reestablish the Roman Empire - which existed for half a millennium?

China should establish it's military presence around Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico. Maybe China should liberate these territories from the US and gain it's independence and democracy.
The problem is that China is not capable of establishing those military presence in those places you named. You have to wait until China becomes stronger. Nowadays, China is just becoming weaker and weaker.
In fact, China's concern for Taiwan has nothing to do with its semiconductors. On the one hand, China has the confidence to manufacture all high-tech products in the future, even if there is a long distance now, but China has been working hard for it; On the other hand, Taiwan has been China's territory since ancient times, and the Chinese people do not want to lose their own land, which is a matter of concern to every Chinese, but also China's internal affairs, and has nothing to do with any other country.
Unfortunately, that confidence is very misplaced. Also, Taiwan does not belong to People's Republic of China, so there is no internal affairs here. Its an international affair that implicates the interests of many neighboring countries.
Forcing people to accept your ideas is not democratic and goes against your ideas. You can use your shallow understanding to impose your own understanding on a civilization, nation, or history that you have never deeply understood, and intervene in the local area by force and command, demanding that the local area must obey your ideas. Think about what your own behavior is? Think about how others see you.
You have no idea about what "Taiwan Independence" really means. "ROC is an independent nation" is exactly another example of deliberate ambiguity. Simply put, "Taiwan independence" means the country somehow stop being (the Republic of) China, maybe through constitutional amendment or reform of government. Anyway, it will be qualified as a unilateral change to the status quo which the US has always been strongly opposing.
Remember, Taiwan specializes in microchip and semi conductor production that neither the US nor China have the capability to meet. If the US isn’t getting these chips then their economy slows to a halt and maybe even regresses. Houses in the US are essentially built on chips. If chip production and exporting ended then progressing technology would be impossible
It is by design, so US can support Taiwan. The reason Asian countries are successful was to battle Communism. US gave exclusive trade to Japan with China, to prevent Japan from falling to the communist right after WW2 we rebuilt Japan's economy. Then we did the same with South Korea. Nixon made a deal with China, which was why China is a manufacturing powerhouse, and why the Soviets fell. They saw China outpacing Russia, and they got jealous.

Thanks for great video. But, There is an incorrect statement on "Japan took Taiwan from China". Litrrally, it was Japan took Taiwan from "Ching Empire". Which the Empire was not the "China" as the country today. There was no country named China officially, but Ching Empire as the country at that time. Secondly, Ching Empire didn't control entire Taiwan but only few townships on the west coast in Taiwan. Third, Taiwan did have their own kingdoms within Taiwan island. There, they deserve the title who hosted Taiwan as a country if anyone ever consider the nationlism with respects. Forth, Netherland, Portugal and Spain who governed partially the Taiwan island before Japan and Ching Empire, then, why shall Taiwan to be considered as part of China, where China (aka PRC) has never ever governed Taiwan for any minute. Lots of historical complications in this small island. I do secerely hope it is never be which country want it, but, listen to Taiwanese who they want to be. Aparently, they only want democracy and freedom as the current way of living. Which is the small wish but need helps and attention.

DW: why do you always talk about possible reunification of North and South Korea. two countries that separated about the same time mainland china and Taiwan did
Because it is impossible for North Korea and South Korea to unify, and the Chinese navy has expanded nearly fivefold in just a decade, the Communist Party is very confident in unifying Taiwan and expelling the military forces of the United States in the Western Pacific.
If North and South Korea unify, the resulting state would fall in western sphere of control (US approves). If china and taiwan unify, the result would be US losing influence in Taiwan
Because many people have fallen into the trap of democracy. China considers itself democratic, but it is a centralized democracy. The United States considers itself democratic, but it is a centralized democracy of capital elites. Both sides fight for their own interests, China for its own sovereignty and integrity, and the United States for its own interests. True democracy is an ideal state, like communism, it is a beautiful vision but can never be realized. It seems that the fate of a country or region should be determined by its people, but in fact it can only be determined by the powerful forces of all parties. There is no need for the world to blame China. In fact, from the standpoint of all parties, no matter China, the United States or Taiwan, everyone has sufficient and powerful 10,000 reasons to defend themselves, so there is no so-called right or wrong, just different positions. I can only say sorry to the people of Taiwan. Whether you want to believe it or not, the reality is cruel. Taiwan will eventually be reunified. It is just a matter of time and method. All we can do is avoid war. Taiwan is special. If it were an insignificant island in the Pacific, everything would be peaceful. But unfortunately, Taiwan is exactly between the two superpowers China and the United States, and the issue of its ownership involves a fundamental issue of principle on one side, so we must treat it with caution and strive for a peaceful settlement. What Taiwanese want seems important, but in fact it is not.🥲
@@ResearchFirst-z7j Let me explained this to you since you are confused. Politics aside, you can't pretend that Taiwanese people aren't Chinese, our blood bond is undeniable. I'll even bet that your own grandparents are from the mainland, and you probably have uncles and cousins or whatnot in the mainland right now) and you can't pretend that Taiwan wasn't a part of a civilization that's called China for centuries before the recent separation. We are one same family in terms of historical continuity and cultural and lingual unity. You can't be so delusional to not know that. OK. now, political-wise, very simple, it is a civil war that has caused this peculiar situation of Taiwan, and the war was between CCP and KMT. So, CCP, as the winning party, indeed has a say in the matter of Taiwan, and that war deserves an ending. P.S. Do not let western media fool you to hate China.
@@zipei1673 I think it is you that is confused. Firstly: There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies, agreements or UN resolutions that declare that Taiwan is part of China. The only legal way that the CCP can unify with Taiwan is via an official written treaty. In terms of race, Singapore is 75% pure Chinese, 14% of Thailand's population is pure Chinese & there are 8 million pure Chinese living in Malasia. So what is your point?? Taiwan is a mixed race in fact 10% of their population is of Japanese heritage. On top of this there are millions of mixed Aboriginals (Tsai Ing-wen is of mixed race), Dutch and Portuguese descendants. The Taiwanese in fact fought against China in Nanjing. So what is your point????? When ROC escapees fled to the still officially Japanese island in 1949, they were about 15% of the population. Therefore 85% of the people of Taiwan were not even at war with the CCP. So what is your point? The civil war was never over Taiwan and the island was Japanese territory during the war. So what is your point?? In term of history, CHINA HAS NEVER RULED TAIWAN. The Qing who were Manchurian and like the Mongols not Chinese, had minimal control of Taiwan. The Qing only managed to rule less than 20% of the island while the aborigines ruled and controlled over 80% of the island. The Qing created a border in 1750 with rocks which was called the Tu Niu Red Line. The Japanese were the first country to colonise Formosa and create roads and infrastructure. So what is your point??? Due to the lack of control, the Qing did not declare Formosa a Province of the Qing until 1895 as the Japanese was encroaching on the island. The island was handed to Japan 10 years later. So what is your point??? Taiwan was not added into the PRC constitution until 1978 when Deng Xiaoping become president. So what is your point?? The war was never over Taiwan and the ROC escaped to the Japanese island of Formosa. There is no delusion it is clear. The point is the PRC has no sovereignty of Taiwan.

TSMC isnt as big of a reason to take Taiwan, no matter how dominant the company is. Technological secrets can flow, engineers can move, machines can be destroyed. The main reason would be a leader's desire to be credited with the success of taking Taiwan. So that's the only real reason a status quo would be broken imo.

O futuro está na multipolaridade, e as diretrizes acordadas pelos países dos BRICS+ constituem o melhor exemplo.
China's interest in Taiwan is pride and nothing else. The US interest is the general interest against aggressive military action that all nations share, and the specific interest that Taiwan is a major technology manufacturer.

The USA cannot win in this contest with China over Taiwan. Look at Ukraine today and people will know that Ukrainians are dying needlessly by the hundreds of thousands for the interests of the USA. I don't see American political leaders willing to sacrifice American soldiers to defend Ukraine. Ukrainian political leaders really failed badly on this score and allowed themselves and their country to be used as pawns to benefit American interests. And Han Chinese people who lives on Taiwan Island must be wise enough to know that America will not send her own soldiers to fight the Chinese and defend Taiwan. The whole world including the USA and her allies South Korea and Japan recongnises that Taiwan is an integral part of China and is Chinese sovereign territory. This kind of American political hypocrisy and double dealing to arm Taiwan and in turn encouraging Taiwan to seek political independence will lead to disaster for Taiwan. Maintaining the current status quo is only an interim solution. Taiwan's future cannot be determined by Han Chinese living on Taiwan island alone. At the end of the day, unification with China (preferably peaceful) will still take place because China will seek to reunify Taiwan to finally end the century of humiliation that Taiwan represents.
Ukraine is not Allied to the US and holds little strategic value for the US outside of protecting other EU allies... Taiwan is more important than Ukraine has ever been, we have gone to war over less important things with our own soldiers. The Taiwanese military is also significantly better than Ukraines... Those are not the same thing at ALLL. Ukrainians aren't "dying by the hundreds of thousands for the US", that is a war of aggression by the insanely incompetent Russian military, makes sense that a Chinese person would be on their side though seeing as both countries wish to be imperial expansionist states as we have seen in tibet, the borders of India, Mongolia, repeated creation of islands to expand territorial waters, etc. for the Chinese and continued expansion into Europe and the caucus mountains for Russia. Denouncing Russia as a Chinese person would be like denouncing your own government's policy as you both behave the same.
Are the CCP paying you by the word for your posts? Whether the current Chinese regieme feel humiliated seems to be poor justification to remove freedom of determination and force people under a totalitarian regiem against their will.
Following defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), the Qing government signs the Treaty of Shimonoseki, by which it cedes sovereignty over Taiwan to Japan, which rules the island until 1945. The ROC was established by Dr. Sun Yet-Sen in 1911 and was on e of the allies of US during WWII. By contrast, while PRC was established in October 1, 1949 by Mao and is an adversary of US.
the communist were fighting side by side, in WW2, and the reason they won right after WW2, was the nationalist was trying to save their own butts and sold supplies to Japan . US stopped supplying the nationalist, because of the corruption they saw, and the Communist took advantage. Can we really say "The majority of Taiwanese want to maintain the status quo"? I think what they really want is independence, but they cannot say it due to China's threats.
The best way is to increase communications between the strait. Both sides share the same culture and the same history. The wise people will finally find a way to handle.

As a Taiwanese, I'd like to point out that what the video says in 10:15 is incorrect, the allies did not FORCE Japan to give Taiwan to China. Giving back Taiwan was once considered but was interrupted because the Allies feared the ROC would lose the civil war and Taiwan would be controlled by the Communists. It turned out the ROC loss indeed. That is why according to the Treaty of San Francisco, Taiwan was only renounced but not transferred and thus our status has been "undetermined". Basically, the Allies, especially the US, wanted Taiwan to be returned to China IF ONLY the ROC represented China. China (the PRC) clearly chooses to misunderstand that. On the other hand, the ROC also chooses to misunderstand that. Even though the ROC does not represent China anymore, it still claims Taiwan to be part of their territory. According to United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1514, all peoples have the right to self-determination, and I hope someday both the PRC and the ROC will leave us alone. Hope this explains well. PS. People often think the US wants to control everything, but I'm really grateful for what they did for Taiwan. Also, as a Taiwanese, I believe I know China much better than other countries do, and they are just as... ummm, unpleasant, as the news portraits.
the Allies feared the ROC would lose the civil war does not justify that taiwan is not part of China. And as you mentioned UN 1514, all people have the right to self-determination, that means Chinese people could choose which force to govern the whole China which including Taiwan. As a citizen of the Republic of China, aka Taiwan, it's equally important to understand that the existence of this country's establishment by almost 200,countries, represents the world's political view. My humble opinion is that, we can lose the war, be taken over, but not harboring any thoughts from the sympathy of other countries, period. PROC has been working hard to maintain its people and difficulties same as the United States. The rest, it's in God's hand and may peace continue .
I am a Taiwanese student. Although it was indeed the United States that intervened in the Chinese civil war in the beginning, young people in Taiwan today are more inclined to the United States' position. Because there is no freedom in China, online speech is restricted. Even to use Google, you have to secretly "jump over the wall" to use it. There is a subject in Chinese education called "Politics Course". You cannot bring up ideas about illegal textbook content, because that is illegal, and there is a chance that you will have to retake this course. Finally, what I want to say is that I am Taiwanese. I don't hate the Chinese, but I hate the Communist Party.
The Cairo Declaration of 1943 and the Potsdam Declaration of 1945 have already stated that Taiwan is Chinese territory. This is about historical justice. Then, who is the bad guy.

I am from Taipei, Taiwan, and I would like to say on behalf of my personal voice How can Taiwan be confident of receiving international support or assistance before it is banned from spending billions of dollars a year on Russian energy purchases? The insistence of a few Taiwanese companies on purchasing and using Russian coal is one of the reasons why the Ukrainian people are suffering. This has also led to concerns that Taiwan as a whole may not be able to obtain the international status that a democratic country deserves, and may not receive full support. Clean and cheap coal has Russia’s backing. At this point, just as North Korea sends troops to attack Ukraine, billions of dollars are enough to launch hundreds of missiles, which will certainly destroy Ukrainian residents, important energy facilities, ammunition depots, and the United States, NATO and other international organizations. The burden of defense assistance will increase, and I sincerely hope that Taiwan will immediately stop assisting Russia. U.S. OFAC should immediately impose secondary sanctions and freeze the company's U.S. bank accounts. EU countries must also be notified to formulate relevant strategies as soon as possible so that the Taiwan government can withdraw its support for Russia as soon as possible.

You dont need to understand. The fact is there are no internationally recognized treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China. In fact, Taiwan was not even included into the PRC constitution until 1978.
If you search “Chinese Civil War”, you will know a lot history. ROC--Republic of CHINA 🇹🇼 , Taiwan is one of its province which its under its control, it claims the mainland China is part of its territory, although not under its control. PRC-- People’s Republic of China 🇨🇳, Vise Versa. You will know from their name, its an unfinished result of civil war.
Taiwan is just a province of China, just like Hawaii is a state of America. The unification of country is more important than the social system in view of most of Chinese people.

Taiwan is not People's Republic of China island. Saying that Taiwan belongs to China and saying Taiwan belongs to People's Republic of China are two very different ideas.
The way how larger powers try to project themselves over territory that does not belong to them is really intriguing. Taiwan is the home of the first Austronesian speakers but today, China (a Sino-Tibetan speaking group) claims as its own. If we go by the first settlers, Taiwan belongs to the Austronesian sphere, i.e., Phillipines, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Pacific islands. Then there's the occupation of Tibet by China. So, while China may have legitimate modern era complaints it itself is a foreign power in these lands. In the end it has to be what the people of those regions want, Taiwan and Tibet, but will China accept it? Will it give Tibet back to its people? If Taiwanese want to have their own country, why be against it? As for the West it is playing its own politics to ensure its dominance against an adversary. There's no one who is innocent here.
Russia should be worried too. The Chinese have long memories of what is their territory. Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times. The earliest written account of Taiwan was in the Seaboard Geographic Gazetteer, compiled more than 1,700 years ago by Shen Ying of the State of Wu during the period of the Three Kingdoms. Starting as early as the mid-12th century, Chinese governments of different periods set up administrative bodies to exercise jurisdiction over Taiwan. However, through a war of aggression against China in April 1895, Japan forced the defeated the Qing government to cede Taiwan and the Penghu Islands. In July 1937, Japan launched an all-out war of aggression against China. In December 1941, the Chinese government issued a declaration of war against Japan, announcing to the world that all treaties, conventions, agreements and contracts regarding relations between China and Japan had been abrogated and that China would recover Taiwan and the Penghu Islands. The Potsdam Proclamation, signed by China, the U.S. and Britain in 1945 (later adhered to by the Soviet Union), stipulated that "The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out." In August 1945, Japan surrendered and promised that it would faithfully fulfill the obligations laid out in the Potsdam Proclamation. On October 25, 1945, the Chinese government recovered Taiwan and the Penghu Islands, resuming the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan. From that point forward, China had recovered Taiwan de jure and de facto through a host of documents with international legal effect. That's why USA, and most countries, will not ratify Taiwan as a separate country.
There are no internationally recognised treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China. Also, historically, China has had minimal control over the island of Taiwan, I will explain further below. Now some facts about Taiwan: 1: The island now known as Taiwan was inhabited and ruled by the aborigines for approximately 30,000 years. 2: When the Dutch arrived in 1626 most of the population of Formosa were the Yuanzhumin or Gaoshan people (who have no DNA link back to China) 3: The Qing had minimal control of Taiwan in fact the Qing only managed to rule less than 20% of the island while the aborigines ruled and controlled over 80% of the island. The Qing created a border in 1750 with rocks which was called the Tu Niu Red Line. The Japanese were the first country to colonise Formosa and create roads and infrastructure.. 4: Due to the lack of control, the Qing did not declare Formosa a Province of the Qing until 1895 as the Japanese was encroaching on the island. The island was handed to Japan soon after. 5: Over the past 400 years the island has been partially ruled by 5 different governments but it was only the Japanese and ROC who had full control of the entire island. 6: Historically the CCP recognized Formosan independence. In 1936, when the Republic of China (ROC) was China’s government and Taiwan (Formosa) was a Japanese colony, Chairman Mao Zedong offered support to Korea and Formosa if their peoples wished to gain independence from Japan. Mao’s internationalist position suggested that 1) both Korea and Formosa have a right to independence, and 2) this is based on the right to self-determination. Mao did not claim that Taiwan has been an integral part of China. (look up Edgar Snow interview)) 7: The Cairo Declaration 1943 discussed the possibility of handing the island of Taiwan to the ROC. This discussion required a treaty to become official and was never implemented. 8: The PRC constitution was formed in 1949 yet Taiwan was not added to it until 1978. 9: The ROC were granted a caretaker role of Formosa after WW2 but when the ROC escaped to the island it still legally belonged to Japan. 10: When Japan relinquished its sovereignty of Taiwan with The Treaty of San Francisco after the ROC invaded the Japanese island, China was not even invited. The treaty was signed by 49 nations but both the ROC and CCP were NOT present. 11: The One China Policy, Un Resolution 2758 or the Treaty of San Francisco do not declare that Taiwan is a province of China. There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China.
Chinese army don't worry about begin the war with US, Japan, and South Korea together, just like 1 vs 17 countries when 70 years ago. And actually, Chinese don't care about the guys lived in the island who don't treat themselves as Chinese. No one can change this mind. Back to PRC, or leave from Taiwan.
so many people dont know the importance of the island itself. This is not about the tiawanese people as it should but for the U.S its about keeping china inside the chain block. Having china in control of taiwan means they can preject their fleet/power towards the pacific which then they can easily deploy their ships agaisnt america easialy if war were to ever occur between the 2. Look at japan in WW2 because they had open ocean they were able to take over korea, phillippines and some parts of china. Even the usa pearl harbor was attacked without any problem. SO this is the main reason why usa is against china taking over taiwan. Tscm comes secondary.

Brilliant analysis and a complete history. Well done.
Opinions from me a chinese guy:
Bro are you communist

When the US has their Chip factories up and running they will drop Taiwan like an old girlfriend.

I'd like to believe that the US will remain committed to Taiwan due to democracy, etc. But a more cynical examination points to the idea that once the US feels confident that domestic chip manufacturing meets the need, defense of Taiwan may become a luxury we say we can't afford.
the us has been protecting taiwan before microchips even existed, that's why Taiwan isn't part of China.

The question should be why is the United States obsessed with Taiwan thousand miles away?
Usa is a company that needs to keep making money whichever way
Taiwan produces 50-60% of microchips and 90% of all advanced microchips in the world.
Cause Taiwan is the center of microchips if china have it well usa is doomed
@DimitriWanyoko-d4c the us has been protecting taiwan ever since the end of the chinese civil war, before microchips were even a thing. That's the only reason Taiwan exists, because the US intervened in their civil war. It's a way for the US to threaten and contain China while spreading American influence.
Isn't China reunifying Taiwan to it, much more analogous to the unification of Germany?

Even tho China is not a democracy? 🤷♂️ your logic is srupid
The US's ambiguous position on the ROC is not meant to stop an independent nation (ROC) from declaring independence.
Why do already independent countries declare independence again?

Youre funny about "China", Ching was China, China today be called PRC, still China. Learn more and learn well please, Trump knows China more than you.

this RUclips video should've been titled "Why the US are so obsessed with Taiwan"
Taiwan to China, is kind of like Texas to the Federal States. The only difference is when the Confederate States lost the Civil war, they don't have an isolated island to take shelter in. Imagine if the South is not under federal control, and they elect their own president and develop their own "democracy", would that be tolerated by the White House? Absolutely no chance.
That's two different examples. If the confederacy all ran to Puerto Rico or something it'd be a different story.
Except the PRC were the Confederacy in your example, also ROC werent pro-slavery, furthermore you say "democracy" but by all metrics ROCs democracy is more free and fair than PRCs?
The ROC (Taiwan) is a great and amazing democratic country, while the PRC is a dictatorship.
They are two completely different countries.

The CCP have no sovereignty of Taiwan so perhaps it is they who should keep their noses out.

The point is the PRC has no sovereignty of Taiwan.

before this video, everyone should think about one question, why the US is always caring about so many other countries business?
A better question is why do so few countries care about other countries business. If democracies were to sit back and allow the expansion of totalitarian states then in time there would be no democracies because totalitarianism is a cancer.

There is no dynasty in Chinese history seperate the whole China with out been reunified later in history. The civil war has not ended yet. That is the status quo.
@@shining1907 Yeah, of course the fear of the ROC losing the civil war itself does not justify that Taiwan is not part of China, the Treaty of San Francisco does :)

How can Taiwan be confident of receiving international support or assistance before it is banned from spending billions of dollars a year on Russian energy purchases?

I’m a citizen of China. To be honest, don’t understand why Taiwan government intends to be independent…😮 Keep the same state as Hong Kong can help them enjoy more Chinese preferential policies…That can be the bedrock to enhance the practical living standards of their citizens…😢
You dont need to understand.
The fact is there are no internationally recognized treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China. In fact, Taiwan was not even included into the PRC constitution until 1978.
If China provides more preferential policies, why do many Hong Kong rich people emigrate one week before Hong Kong's handover?
Taiwan already has a high standard of living, so why would it need China's help to improve?

If you search “Chinese Civil War”, you will know a lot history. ROC--Republic of CHINA 🇹🇼 , Taiwan is one of its province which its under its control, it claims the mainland China is part of its territory, although not under its control. PRC-- People’s Republic of China 🇨🇳, Vise Versa. You will know from their name, its an unfinished result of civil war.
Taiwan is just a province of China, just like Hawaii is a state of America. The unification of country is more important than the social system in view of most of Chinese people.

@@stevenlouie6922 if you where chinese you would say TaiWan is apart of china too
It has never been part of Communist China.
Now some facts about Taiwan:
1: The island now known as Taiwan was inhabited and ruled by the aborigines for approximately 30,000 years.
2: When the Dutch arrived in 1626 most of the population of Formosa were the Yuanzhumin or Gaoshan people (who have no DNA link back to China)
3: The Qing had minimal control of Taiwan in fact the Qing only managed to rule less than 20% of the island while the aborigines ruled and controlled over 80% of the island.
(look up Edgar Snow interview))
7: The Cairo Declaration 1943 discussed the possibility of handing the island of Taiwan to the ROC.
China is a paper tiger. The US alone would be able to stop China. With the help of its allies China stands no chance.
You wouldn't be saying that if you were the one who is called to the front line to fight.
The only obsessed issue here is for the media to create rivalry between these powers.
Why is the United States always so obsessed with the territories of other countries?
It is not, or it would have conquered and occupied many countries. One should avoid making the perfect the enemy of the good.
so many people dont know the importance of the island itself.
Condolences to Taiwan. We were once sandwiched between these two too
