Where is the neighbouring countries when China claimed the Nansha (Spratly) Islands and the Xisha (Paracel) Islands? _"__0:13__ During the period of colonialism countries were not yet born. So when they were born, they thought it very unfair that almost all the South China Sea should have been claimed by China. So I think this is at the heart of it. Much of what the Philippines is now doing is the result of domestic politics. __0:30__ President Duterte reached some kind of an understanding with China, including the beached LST on Ren'ai Jiao (Second Thomas Shoal), __0:40__ but under _*_President Maros they felt that that was unfair_*_ and they want to repair that ship which is breaking down and that's approximate cause of the current tension. China thinks the Philippines is just a small fish to fry. Little did they know, that the Philippines has been used to fry bigger fishes. While China has been cooked by smaller countries. How? Read the history of both country. E.G. the Sino-Vietnam war, Korean war (A small group of Filipinos against the huge numbers of Chinese army). The Philippines doesn't need and has been dodging war/s for decades since it already knows what's the price of war. But it is not in the history of the Philippines to give up even an inch of its territory too. So if the giant China thinks that the small Philippines is scared of them? I don't think so.

The Chinese spokesman says that "in the event of war" China would attack military bases in the Philippines. In reality, China had already invaded parts of the Philippines by stationing its coast guard ships inside the Philippine EEZ. Imagine if the Philippines did the same, stationed Philippine coast guard ships within 200 miles of China's coast and bombarded Chinese coast guard ships with water cannons? If the Philippines did that, it is not hard to imagine that China would easily take that as an act of war. But that is exactly what China has been doing in the West Philippine Sea for quite a while now. Chinese action in the West Philippine Sea was an act of war, although the Philippines was exercising forbearance in the face of such affront from China for the sake of peace in the Indo-Pacific region. However, Chinese abuse of international norms cannot go on indefinitely without eroding the validity of the rules-based international order. Allowing China to continue disrespecting international law will result in the destabilization of regional peace in the Indo-Pacific, which could spread elsewhere in the world where a rogue state like China could be incentivized by a perceived lack of resolve from the international community to uphold the law in the face of challenges posed by violators like China. And going back to the prospect of an actual kinetic war, China will lose substantially more in economic and geopolitical costs, to say the least, in such a scenario. It will be perceived by the free world as an attack on global law and order. The response of the world will be decisive. So, it would be better for China and regional stability that the CCP maintain cordial relationships with its neighbors, and distance itself from controversies like its Nine-Dash Line claim that never attained credibility in the global community. China had better public relations with the world when it was focused on trade rather than when it began to attempt to expand its territory beyond the long-established international borders.

The era of soft power is over, the West aided its rise and China being back into a corner is challenging the status quo. Xi publicly announced on several occasion " 准备打胜战 " noting the imminent conflicts brewing, is Xi bluffing or are the West & alliances ready, can we hold countries to international laws and order without the will or power to enforce them? or when CN covertly believes only " might is right ". Then ascertain whether CCP is governing with the principles of " Rule of Law " or as a criminal regime. If the era of peace is behind us will we now take action or talk some more? Every delay has its consequences even if we naively or ignorantly think we are not already involved in the intricacies of a cold war spelling hot.

The Philippines, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan must form an Asian NATO. Others can join if they want to, but the core must be the Philippines, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. The Philippine military's experience in war goes back to the 1890s from the war of independence to World War 2, to fighting the communist insurgency, then crushing ISIS, up to the present time. The Phillippines' military experience is uninterrupted for over 100 years. Japan is a sleeping military powerhouse. A Philippine-Japan military alliance alone can sow fear into the heart of the CCP. However, since Taiwan and South Korea are democracies, these countries must be protected too. If these countries want to check the expansionist communists, any of these countries must initiate the formation of this alliance immediately. We can call it - APMA - the Asia Pacific Military Alliance.

Today, the Philippine looks like an "outcast" in Asean. Its mouthpiece on foreign policy is a mouthpiece of its old grand master (the USA). No country in Asean has foreign military basses except the Philippines. When a country has foreign military bases, like the Philippines has, it has already given up its sovereignty rights to function as a sovereign country. Still living in the 50's ,60's, 70's mindset. It believes so strongly in colonialism and neocolonialism. And expect other Asean countries to follow blindly its colonialism and neocolonialism step path.

U$ have NO obligation to defend the dispute maritime areas.
Document 578 of American Foreign Policy Basic Documents 1977-1980 is a 1979 letter to then-Philippine Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Romulo, in which Vance further clarified the U.S. legal interpretation of the MDT. He declared that armed attack under the MDT refers to external armed aggression against any part of Philippine metropolitan territory as defined by the 1898 Treaty of Paris between Spain and the U.S. and the 1900 Treaty of Washington between Great Britain and the U.S. (amended in 1930), as well as island territories in the Pacific that are under Philippine jurisdiction. Moreover, “armed attack on any Philippine armed forces, public vessels or aircraft in the Pacific would not have to occur within the Philippine metropolitan territory or island territory under its jurisdiction in the Pacific in order to come within the definition of Pacific Area in Article V.” Thus, armed attack on said forces or vessels taking place in undisputed maritime areas in the South China Sea would fall within the scope of the MDT.

2:21 China considers... So it is in its territory.
So can any country just consider something that isn't true and the rest of the world will accept it? 😂
Just because China considers the South China Sea as their territory, doesn't mean that it's theirs, but according to him, anything China considers to be true, must be the case! Even though the rest of the world doesn't recognize that as the case at all, it's just something China made up all of the sudden when they realized it would give them a geopolitical strategic edge against the United States, so they claim international waters as their own, using historical sovereign rights that nobody takes seriously, because that isn't recognized law anywhere outside of China. 😂
Using freaking Russian logic that Russia used for Ukraine, 1800s logic for modern day application... It doesn't work like that. The United States should move in with other nations' navies and sail the South China Sea as international waters in solidarity of the Philippines and Vietnam and Malaysia and Brunei because those countries are next on the chopping block for China.
