I personally thought your rendition of such a classic song was excellent. Also, when a person puts up a video of themselves with only their acoustic guitar it says a lot to me. You're basically up on show 4 the world to see (mistakes and everything !). Keep it going though my friend and most of all,.... enjoy it.

George, I had no idea you had this channel, I would have subbed YEARS ago. I saw you live playing with the Lonely Heartstrings in a little town called Lowville in NY and it was an experience I'll never forget. I got to speak to you guys after the show, though you probably won't remember silly, starstruck, awkward me (and I'm embarrassed to say I might hope you don't). And now here you are years later, performing an amazing and beautiful cover of a song I only fell in love with in the interim.

Probably a better voice than Don, but I wish you would have added some pensive pauses within the song, instead of listening to a metronome. Like "are soothed beneath the artists loving hand", or "aaaaam-ber grey". To give some parts just a little emphasis. Still beautiful job.

While I couldn’t find George on Spotify as an artist, I did find him as a user that I could follow and see what he listens to. Maybe a bit stalker-ish, but he really does listen to all of the songs he posts covers of. Lots of Simon and Garfunkel, Adrienne Lenker, and Don McClean lately. Also a decent amount of Chopin :) we couldn’t have more similar tastes in music. Wish he had a larger following
He was the lead singer with The Lonely Heartstrings Band (Bluegrass) which is on Spotify. He also sings with identical twin brother (standup bass) in the group, wait for it, The Clements Bothers.
I’m sure Don McLean visited the Van Gogh museum and realised how intuitively talented Vincent was. McLean was humbled by this powerful art and penned a beautiful tribute. As you sing and play this I sense you have the same respect that inspired Don McLean to write this song.

Great performance! The playing, singing, the dynamics and subtleties of both work great together. Also, the sound of that guitar... That guitar is so warm, clear and dynamic - I think that's a 1929 -30 Gibson Gold Sparkle? How did you mic it and did you use for processing, etc? I'm very impressed.
I bought this album from the Columbia House Record Club shortly after it came out. American Pie and Vincent among others. Your version is simply poignant and beautiful and in my opinion better than the original. You should check out Don Mc's Tapestry (1970) and the song that Perry Como ultimately made a huge hit. And I Love You So.
