I made a similar setup with a harbor freight truck crane. Those tongs you have are too big. Buy a pair that can open 18 inches, they are much shorter and work great plus keep them on the cable and lower to the log. Works even better on the splitter because you can reposition them so easily. Best extra set of hands you can have. When you split a log and can’t get them apart without an axe, clamp one side in the splitter and use the tongs on the other side to rip the log in two. A serious back and time saver.

@pvwjr Thanks for the tip! Yep, the smaller set that I mentioned in the video that was order finally came in. Looking forward to trying them out. Check out my other videos where I use this on my splitter, I think that anchor-point works even better than tongs on the splitter because it is completely out of the way. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I honestly believe that you would’ve saved yourself a lot of grief had you brought along a two wheel dolly to get the rounds to your truck and a splitter that goes from horizontal to vertical and split the rounds in half or 1/4’s to make them more manageable to throw them in the truck it’s all about working smarter, not harder which you certainly did however You could’ve done all that and probably less than half the time.
    Cheers Woody !!!

@WoodysRTBFirewood Good ideas!! I was trying my best to do as little damage to the yard. I didn't explain it very well, but we had snow that had just melted away and the ground was really soft. My only 2-wheel dolly has really skinny tires and they might have left ruts. I also did not want to split on-site and make more of a mess. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Have you tried using a 10ft 2x12 as a ramp? :)

@steve-ey3rx yessir! That works too. But my I find this to be easier, and my 6 1/2 foot bed then makes tying down a 10' long board a PITA after the bed is full of wood. Thanks for watching and commenting!
