  • Filmed in early January, 2021.
    Northern Willamette Valley.
Hopefully everone had a great Christmas in 2024. Best wishes for the coming New Year in 2025!
A little bit of bantering with my cuz, Gary. But,,, this is his job so I "get to follow orders"... The dialog (with some hand signals) gives insight into the thinking.
Using my 2100 with a 42" bar. Had the chain "somewhat" dialed in. There is room for improvement, of course.
The bigger trees in this strip are four long logs (40s) tall. I wouldn't say they are soft on the stump.
I wasn't sure how well the "little excavator that could" was going to handle this tree. So, I put the featherweight in as a precautionary measure. Not what happened, but the tree was moving forward and then it was moving back. Resultantly, the jack was coming out and then went back in...
In the end, larger & tall fir went where it was supposd to and missed the stumps in the lay.
As always, enjoy working with my cousin Gary!
Bleesings to all in your camp.
    Thanks for watching.

      Old habits die hard...
Occasionally a jack will fail. It's moreso on the backpack units with hoses. If the check ball/spring doesn't catch the sudden release of pressure, she's coming over backward. Same thing if you are jacking and the seat is soft.
So, if your a purdent faller, you are backing up the jack with wedges. Keeping in mind, the "normal" guy can get 8/10,000 psi with 10/12" wedges. Helps the jack & the jack's seals.
      Thank you for watching.

For those interested in a little of the back story -
The 2100 platform, iconic. If you remember, there was at least a decade where they, for the most part, ruled the roost. Starting mid/late 70s at the beginning of the end of the 60" bar use on a regular basis.
In zipped form they would pull a 42 with authority & 50 NICELY.
They were much more ergonomic than the 045/056, 050/051, and 075/076. With the same kind of chain speed as the 045 through 056 magnum ll. Whereas, you could just about count the teeth going around on the 050 through 076. Which is why there were a lot of converts to Husqvarna.
Granted, the 2100 did weigh more than the 045 and 56 models, but, it pulled the noticeably better.
Also, the 084 never came on line until '86. By that time a 42 was about all a guy needed day in and day out.
With all that, a guy has to wonder, does the "even" really apply?
      Thanks for watching.

I think I figured it out, posted another vid

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  Месяц назад

      No mention of which mo-chine.
      Assuming crosscutting and not ripping.
If the clutch drum bearing is wooding up, there is a chip management issue.
Or, your chain isn't throwing chips. Which means it's making dust.
Most saws will evacuate normal amounts of chips from crosscutting effectively.
The wrap version saws struggle more than the ½ wraps when ripping.
All saws will have issues if the bottom is on or close to the ground where the chips cannot escape.
In summation, if the saw & operation are "normal" then I'd look at the size and consistency of the chips (dust).
      Best of luck.

saws in question are red huskies. 2188, 2166, “2175” - 372XPW. In dusty dead live oak in the desert mountains and decades dead eucalyptus down in the desert. Not much we can do about the dust - clouds of it, like I see in redwood bark cutting vids. The discharge of the saw looks like a shop vac full of dirt turned on with the filter removed. Strange thing was, the 461 did not have an issue. It seems it was the plastic needle bearing cage in the needle bearing in the stihl acting as a seal, and also the larger and closer fitting washer that retains the clutch drum and rim sprocket keeping the dust out of the bearing. Dolmak has a larger washer as well and also doesn’t seem to have an issue.

      Thanks.
I do try,,, but looking up is mandatory. Assess the lean. Determine movement. See if the wind is picking up. Essentially, determining what you are up against.
The key is looking up as necessity dictates. Even then you get a knowledge knot whooped up on your cranium occasionally. Part of the process felling timber on the West Coast...

      Here's what you don't know:
Behind the excavator is a fence, yah property line.
On the other side is a narrow strip of re-gen (that's regeneration or young growth for those that just watch & critique).
On the other side of the re-gen is a house. Occupied? Maybe.
Now, with the new information you can make an informed decision - take your time and NOT have a DAS-ASTER... Although, with the size and jacking component it really didn't - take that long.
Anyone complaining about speed, or this, that, something else is showing their complete and utter lack of understanding.
Side note - I use to carry around a camera & tripod. Shudda heard the bellyaching, whining, and or complaining.
Determination: Some people will just bitch to hear their own voice.
      Sad really.
Moral here, exercise your right as an adult to move along & watch whatever suits your fancy. AKA move along...

I have not. I've seen the low budget carburetor venturi, poor casting quality cylinder assemblies, and free porting on the exhaust side in the cheap am saw arena. You will never get them to run like a Husky, Stihl, or Dolmar (Makita).
I'm a busheler (aka. piecework faller). I'm not going to hike for ½ and hour down into some hole and trust that one will make it through the day.
Not to mention, as far as I know, those saws are really small machines. I'm not using my ms400 that consistently.
Hope the New Year treats you well!

I'd check the tank vent. Make sure it's not plugged. It is a know quantity on those to have issues. Might think about replacement just for good measure.
I've seen where coils will get hot and become intermittent.
Also, verify the air gap on the coil is correct.
Doesn't sound like a carburation issue. However, I'd verify the metering lever in the carb is at the correct elevation. The diagrams are not pillowed, stiff, mis-installed, faulty, etc.
Best of wishes in the coming New Year.

Why did you not put the under cut in first?

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  Месяц назад +2

Because this tree was leaning back with most of the limb weight hanging aft as well.
If you put the undercut in 1st, the tree will sit back even further. Which, makes it even harder to lift. Additionally, you can lose a heavy back leaner over backward even easier by putting the face in 1st.
Thanks for watching & have a good New Year.
