I love the scene in the movie Sicario, in the operations briefing, the lead says " Can the Delta members please identify themselves, so we know who to hide behind if shit hits the fan.."
Héctor Salazar And amazingly, the cast is form different countries. Eric Bana is from Australia.. Ewan McGregor from Scotland. Tom Hardy Is from Britain..
And the beauty of it, this was back when they were really small actors. Like, they weren't really known. Maybe a couple were well-known, but most of them were get small roles or just starting.
Trained a few time with some operators. They are some of the coolest people to work with. They really have their knowledge wired tight and have no problems passing to other soldiers. I have a lot of respect for them
There are quite a number of British actors in Black Hawk Down Orlando Bloom, Ewan McGregor ,Jacob Isaacs,Ioan Gruffudd , Matthew Mardsen and one Australian Eric Bana.
The skater/hippie vet giving experience to Steele & Eversmann is great. After seeing them in the moving and this was advice in the most bro way possible.
You've got to appreciate the commitment to detail in this movie; even Orlando Bloom, the guy who never even makes it off the chopper properly, was put through sessions of military training.

lol Ewan MacGregor is such a coddled cosmopolitan actor type. "I just couldn't believe the violence of it all. Can you BELIEVE what they teach you about violence??" Still love him though.
It's interesting(and yes naive and it makes him sound coddled) that he would say that considering that Black Hawk Down is a war movie and that war itself, is violent. Yes, the military teaches people about violence and to be violent, I know he's an actor but I figured as an adult, he still would have known that at the time.
Johnny Strong and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau should've switched roles. Strong more physically resembled Gary Gordon and Coster-Waldau looked a lot more like Randy Shughart.
So cool to see this and some of the guys I worked with at 7th Special Forces. I remember when these guys came to get trained. Unfortunately I was doing something else so I didn't get to meet any of these actors.

Ewan McGregor: “I was surprised to learn that they instilled a sense of violence into the soldiers. Do things violently.” …Yeah Ewan, that’s kind of the whole point.
man it would be cool to be an actor... make millions and go do shit like this. They get to do the coolest stuff and meet amazing people, and the locations like the LOTR set wow..
Army PowerPoint FTW. I had to sit through so many of those. Once, during a briefing on cadre interaction with IETers, the CPT kept repeating the phrase, "don't touch the Privates." The Navy Chief and Gunny with whom I was sitting (I was AF) just looked at each other and smirked.
Yeah,as an adult at the time, that made him look really bad when he said that.I understand he's an actor but he sounded so naive and clueless there.Yeah, they're trained in violence, taught about violence and are trained to kill people in these Special Operations Units. What did he think the guns in Special Operations and infantry units are for in the first place?
This was my army I joined, today, since I retired a few years back... It's gone to shit. Bring back hair standards, you want longer hair, earn it by going CAG or ODA.
but when it comes in reality including what happened in Mogadisho in 1993 its total different and Americans really see the reality in the ground and what the trainers given them was totaly different.
The raid in Mogadishu (Somalia) was a total screwup. First, military created animosity from day one (cuffing people on the beach, etc). Military then underestimated the opposition (resolve, organization, weapons, etc). They had been fighting for years, so military should have known better. Operation was too complex (too many moving forces, etc). Military got cocky and men died as a result.
You need to do a little research on why it failed as your assumption is not factual history.. The failure started in the white house. Clinton advisers did not want to appear imposing or "militant". They denied the AC-130 gun ship, armor and other vehicles saying "They don't need it, its a simple in an out" (this is all on record). The military knew exactly what they needed and how to do it but had their hand tied by politicians who never served and no idea what the military does. Your comment "so military should have known better" is way off base here. The military did not decide to go to that country but was sent by the president. They knew what had to be done to complete the mission but were told by the Clinto cabinet "No you will do it they way we want not the way you want" (actual comment told to GEN Garrison in the cabinet minutes) They did not "underestimated the opposition (resolve, organization, weapons, etc)" and asked for more soldiers, vehicles and air-support. As this would not play well on the media for the "Clinton Brand" his cabinet denied it. The only part of your comment that is right is "The raid in Mogadishu (Somalia) was a total screwup (sic)." It was a screw up as it was run by politicians and not the military who have the experience with these types of operations. Place the blame on the right people instead of the soldiers who were sent in without support, equipment and ability to operate due to political hand tying.
Not necessarily. Ever heard of Rudy Reyes? He's a real-life war veteran and actor and even played HIMSELF in the HBO Mini-Series Generation Kill and it would be regularly joked about how pretty he was.
Gotta love William Fichtner's increasingly concerned look as more and more pieces of equipment are placed in front of him right at the beginning.
Yeah. It just reads "Holy shit, that's a lot of gear"
Damn Obi-wan, Jamie Lannister, Legolas, and Bane are all in this movie!
A team player - Plus The Hulk, but the less said about that movie, y’know, the better.
& Lucius Malfoy and Horatio Hornblower
Legolas/Will Turner. Obi-Wan Kenobi is now Christopher Robin. The Hulk. Mr. Fantastic. Who else?
Jem-Kimber-Aja-Shana Charlie the Scottish sniper from Wonder Woman was in there,Will Graham from Hannibal and Phil Dunphy from Modern family

Thank you Josh Harnett for that brilliant explanation of slow is smooth.
a funny thing is, William Fichtner was "Sanderson" in movie, which is the voice character of "Sandman" in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.
its not a "funny thing" its exactly why he was cast for that part. The whole series is full of references to movies.
Do you have any idea who you're stealing from?
and Roach's real name is Gary Sanderson
And both were Deltas

Daniel Lincoln-Smith Yep, John Stebbins, I've read enough books etc about this to know about him. His own child, too.

What do you mean can not teach fear of being shot at? Isn't everyone inherently afraid of being shot at?
So what the fuck do you expect them to do? Shoot at the actors for real?
You actually can...You personally already know the fear of being shot at.
