    Best words of advice I've ever heard came from this. "Even if you fuck up, fuck up aggressively." Preach.

    It blows my mind how people are so mesmerized by such simple stuff. The ranger stuff is like a basic with the ranger bat. That delta course. You can 100% see the difference between the mentality of special forces and special operations.

    So many British actors lol

    • @ceounicom
      @ceounicom 9 лет назад +7

      +CRXPhil What's funny is how few people even noticed at the time.
      People recognized Ewan McGregor (scot) from Trainspotting.... and *maybe* Eric Bana, because Chopper was such a success... but Orlando Bloom, Tom Hardy, Hugh Dancy et al were completely unknown to US audiences and I don't think any of them were ever spotted as 'not being American.'
      I did at the time think the guy who played Capt.Steele (Jason Isaacs) was over-doing the hammy Georgia tough-guy accent, but it never occurred to me that he was actually a brit.
      The only person who had brief moments where they sounded 'fake' was Bana; they tried to make him do a very-specific kind of Arkansas-twang, and sometimes vowel sounds weirdly overlapped with his Aussie and ended up sounding retarded. Like when was giving Eversman advice before the mission, "Politics and all that shit goes right out the window...".... or when he was consoling him after Smith dies... both times he ends up slipping a little. He'd get the vowel sound right, but screw up the rhythm and emphasis... or get the rhythm right, but then let a teeny little Aussie 'a' through.

      +ceounicom Well, that seems really interesting to me. I've never noticed that thing. I thought it was intended to be this way. Like he was supposed to play a very laid-back guy that doesn't dwell on anything. What would you say about Nikolaj Coster Waldau's accent?

    So I am wondering if for some of the more minor actor roles, it might not be easier to use real Rangers who are already trained, rather than actors who have to be trained for a soldier role.

  • @azazel21379

    Did they make the Actors, that went 2 Benning, go sit at 30th AG,and have 9 zero weeks, before you even get 2 Ranger school. I remember the old PT uniforms, when I was getting outta the Army, they were just starting with new PT uniforms, never got 1. I remember us getting the black Berets, but we staered hearing about it,while still in OSUT, and the Rangers at that time were pissed off,I heard they were gonna do a March 2 Washington. But after graduation, they didn't hand out the blk berets for around 1 in a half years, might be longer. This was way back from 99-02.

      Sean Vegas Before I explain, understand that I am currently serving in the Army.
      And as a big gamer and a veteran, the biggest things I noticed that are different is fatigue. Your character in game can run around in full kit and uniform and carry ridiculous weapons (like shoulder firing light machine guns) it's not unheard of, but it is VERY difficult to an average person. Then you have to take into account of the heathe from all your moving around. You are constantly moving up and down difficult terrain in full gear, and the only thing on your mind is sitting down and taking a break. And you are in constant pain.
      And the second biggest difference is that it feels NOTHING like a game. The tactics in a game and real life standard operating procedures are leagues from each other. Real life teaches you tactics to close distance and destroy the enemy in superior fire power in a TEAM. One wrong move and you will cost someone else their life and it you would live the rest of your life wishing it was you.
      And finally, the mental toll it takes. PTSD and other combat related mental illnesses are no joke. Combat isn't exhilarating, it's torture. That's why we are comprised of people who are willingly volunteering to put themselves through all this.
      As bad as I make it sound, I LOVE my job and I am proud to serve my country.

      +S Wyatt No. They were cast because they were good for the roles. Are you hurt because you're American and you need to see more of your countrymen everywhere you look to raise your self-esteem? Because you sound like you should talk to somebody...

      To be fair, they do tend to make better actors, especially so the Brits. But then, the Yanks make better soldiers. So it balances out.
