You are off to a wonderful start/career on utube. I admire your values and Christian perspective. Your honesty and no nonsense approach is refreshing. All the best.
I really enjoyed this video. Very heartfelt. Being salt and light in the world is truly important and necessary in such a darkenened world ❤ God bless you all
Thank you for your beautiful videos! I share your passion on motherhood! There is no greater calling. And I also feel that it's so important to help the rising generation to understand the importance of motherhood and family. 😊❤ One of my favorite quotes: "The most important of the Lord's work that you will ever do will be the work you do within the walls of your own home." -Harold B. Lee ❤Marietta Anderson
Thank you for sharing and answering questions! It’s nice to see that I have much in common with your experiences and ideals, I’m a stay at home, homeschooling mom who had my son at 32. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
"Just because you're capable of more than raising children doesn't mean that raising children is beneath you" 👏 I got a lot of negative feedback when I chose not to go to graduate school and to pursue a different career path so that my husband and I will someday have the financial flexibility (no debt) for me to stay home with our potential children. It's so good to hear this from other intelligent, capable women 🤍
I’m impressed by your foresight. You won’t regret having that flexibility. 🥰 And I’m sorry you didn’t get more support. If you ever need to feel really confident you did the right thing, look up Erica Komisar interviews 😉
Just noticing your list of kids shows. Have you ever watched Guess How Much I Love You? It is my favorite and is in line with the others you listed. I just wanted to recommend it to you since it is so wonderful!
Your channel is my new obsession and favorite channel. We have the same background! I have a bachelors, my masters will be done in December. I grew up in the city, but now live more rural. I became a stay at home mom last January after working at a university for almost 8 years. That’s crazy!!! I am slowly working on declutter and minimizing my home before having our third baby in February. Also I’m a fairly new Christian and I definitely had a harsh reality check that God was taking me out of the workforce and telling me to focus on my kids and their upbringing. ❤ Thank you for sharing your journey on RUclips
Excited to get to know you a little more and encouraged to hear you recently became a Christian. I really am enjoying your channel and this is an inspiration for me.
Merry Christmas! I’ll be honest, I typically don’t watch other RUclipsrs Q and A’s, but I have watched and enjoyed every single one of your videos, and so obviously I wasn’t going to pass this one up. And it did not disappoint! I really enjoyed hearing more about your life, and it’s interesting to see how much one can have in common with another person in the RUclips world. 😆 I love hearing women embracing their roles as mothers; we need more of that. And I hope that you are able to homeschool your children down the road; it is such a wonderful thing. I was homeschooled, and am doing the same with my boys. Have you ever read Anne of Green Gables? I feel like you’re a kindred spirit! Oh my goodness, I could talk your ear off, but I had better stop😆
Thank you, Emelie! This was so fun to read! I have read Anne of Green Gables, amazing books 🤩, and I love it! I hope we can find ways to get to know each other more. It sounds like we have a lot in common! I was actually homeschooled too, which I neglected to mention. So, I’m hopeful Steve and I can figure it out!
I’m sure you and your husband would do an amazing job of homeschooling your kids. Yes, it definitely seems like we have a lot in common! I’m not on any social media (except RUclips of course, does that count?) but sometimes I do miss being able to connect to people. Happy New Year!
Since I stumbled upon your channel this past week I have been binging 😊. You are so inspiring! I have been on a minimalist journey since motherhood as well. My daughter is almost 5 and we are planning to have one more if we are blessed again. I also became a mom in my 30s and work in higher Ed. What advice would you give moms, like me, who aren't able to stay home....I am the significant earner between myself and my husband. How could we get to a place where we can enjoy our kids more but also keep up with laundry, dishes etc. I food prep so we don't have to cook every night but still find little evening time.
Merry Christmas! Would love to hear hear how your flip phone journey turns out. I’ve tried to turn my phone into a “dumb phone” as much as possible (limited notifications, screen time restrictions, only one folder of essential apps on the Home Screen), but recognize my phone does actually minimize the amount of other tools I’d need (calculator, maps, camera) ☺️
I think you’ve nailed the trade off with switching to a flip phone. Smart phones are a key tool in making minimalism more accessible. I’m curious to see how many other things I will need to purchase to make up for the loss of the smart phone. But I’ll definitely cover it once I’ve had at least six months with the flip phone. ☺️ And Merry Christmas! 🎄
I also have a bachelors and 2 masters! How do you cope with feeling like you aren't wasting your degrees staying home?! I am struggling with his as I want to scale down and stop working because motherhood and full time work are tooooooo much
I totally get where you're coming from. When I was pursuing my degrees, it was fueled by my passion and curiosity for the subjects I was studying. They were an outlet for my drive and ambition at the time. But when I became a mom, my focus naturally shifted and all that drive redirected to learning how to raise my kids and create a home environment that reflects our values. I started to see my life and work experience as something I could channel into motherhood and homemaking-it felt like building a legacy, which is deeply fulfilling to me. Over time, I also began to question the cultural messaging that staying home is somehow a “waste” of education. Think about it: as a mom and homemaker, you need skills in organization, project management, administration, research, child development, cooking, cleaning (and more). It’s an incredibly demanding and rewarding role that requires the same drive and intelligence that aids us in earning degrees. I don’t know your exact situation, but I imagine many of the skills you developed through your degrees and career are completely transferrable to life at home. The idea that our degrees are wasted if we focus on family is, in my opinion, a false narrative that undervalues the importance of motherhood and homemaking. I’ve even wondered if there would be value in offering a mentorship group or course on transitioning from full-time work to being a homemaker-it’s a big shift, and there’s so much learning involved. Your comment has my wheels spinning on that idea again! Edit: Forgot to mention, I think RUclips has also been an important outlet and way to stay connected to my field (marketing). I know lots of stay-at-home moms who found ways to step away from their full-time work, but still keep one toe in their field.
@@papertownhome Thank you for your thoughtful response! I have watched about 5 of your videos today and then they led me over to Suzanne Venker's videos and I feel so emboldened and so annoyingly scared! I would so join a mentorship or even support group! I am a math and data science professor and post COVID education is wildly emotionally exhausting and drains my energy. I was just a math professor for years and then COVID hit and I decided to go back to school for data science to get out of teaching because the virtual teaching world was so so depressing and then I was offered to teach data science and it works well with scheduling so I have stuck with it even though the original goal was Industry. I am frustrated that I took out loans for this that would be way more easily paid off if I plunged into industry life but I just can't bring myself to do it, motherhood has proved way way more important and time consuming than I thought. You have motivated me. I got the video making course you recommended and want to start up community based learning math groups. I feel such an insane pull to switch gears, find meaning in education again in a much smaller time capacity and without all the bring home grading, homeschool, fully show up for my kids and have a sabbath/prioritize rest (I am realizing after living in NYC for years, backpacking over a dozen countries, and then living in Taiwan.. now having children I do not know how to be still and it is causing so much anxiety! I made my husband listen to your Q and A and was like does this not sound just like me?!?! haha. Thank God for pages like yours because I have my city friends with live in au pairs and my suburban/rural friends who are professionals at chilling but also steeped in consumerism and I am over here just spinning my wheels trying to find a happy median but also kind of completely different)
Just subscribed to your channel glad i found you :) I really have been enjoying your videos hope you keep uploading thanks for sharing your wardrobe really motivates me to think and be mindful which i am catering more towards quality over quantity and minimalism path for a long time now :)
Go the Stay at Home Mom!! You and their Grandparents can give way more to your children than a DayCare Centre!!! Some are great, some are not much different to an orphanage. And very young children can't tell you about it so I am.
If you’re looking for a nice slow tv show, Apple TV put out a season of Frog and Toad and it’s beautiful and sweet. There is also a video of the Bible series The Biggest Story, and the art is BEAUTIFUL. There is also a video series for Sally Lloyd Jones’ Jesus Storybook Bible. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Glad you’re taking time “off” for your own sustainability. You are wise not to burn yourself out.
Young women - get on to Dave Ramsay and save, save, save and invest when you have lots of disposable income. Then when you start having kids you can relax and enjoy your kids and you won't have an over-inflated lifestyle.
I am so glad I found your chanel. You have such a calm demeanour. ❤

I knew it. Either marketing and/or editing❤.
Haha 😂 yep! The editing I learned entirely from the DIY Family Films course. It was great!
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
Update on the flip phone please!
My kids destroyed it and I defaulted back to my old iPhone 🤦🏻♀️ I’m not sure about next steps. 😂
@papertownhome was the flip bit super exciting? Regular brick might be good. 🤣
