Cannot thank you enough for making this video!! By far, your video is the clearest one on RUclips explaining the touches of throttle and return ledges. Your tutorial is simple, clear & concise. Here is what happened : I put bar risers making my cables ended up too tense and the throttle became very sticky. My local dealer said I need to get a pair of new cables and it costs me around 250 dollars. Plus, I need to leave my bike with him for one week because of all the cable measurements, swapping and adjustments. Thanks a lot !!!! You have a good one !!
Easily one of the best Instructional videos I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen A LOT throughout my time. Short, sweet, to the point, and covered everything. Awesome video man, thanks for the help!
Thanks so much for the video! I was having too much play before the throttle opened up. Can't wait to go home and adjust it. Your videos are amazing bud!
Hey dude. This saved my ass today. I was ankle deep in tension issues with the throttle, and not even the HD dealership could explain it as well as you did. Thanks for passing on your knowledge, as well as keeping me safe on the roads.
Have had my original throttle cables for 20 years on my sportster. This weekend it broke for the first time.I ve never lubricated anything. But like your videos!
Very good video. I am a new rider and I just noticed that my 2022 Harley XL883N Iron 883 has way too much free play in the throttle. My bike has very low mileage on it also. It only had 1200 km on it when I bought it from the dealership so maybe the throttle was never adjusted before, I am not really sure. When I roll on the throttle there is a lot of free play until the throttle actually opens up to tension. I also noticed this as when I am upshifting to a higher gear when I roll back on the throttle, it takes a bit for my bike to respond to the acceleration of upshifting thus the shifts are not smooth because of the lag response of the throttle.
I was wondering if you could help. My throttle cable is max adjusted and even if I run out of threads my throttle doesn't open 100% are my cables stretches
I just got a 2018 Sportster custom XL 1200. My idling app is very high and even without applying throttle the engine races. How can I reduce the idle so that the bike goes slow when not applying thro?
Hey Tony, I want to get magnum cable as well. I have I 8 inch bars, I want to replace all the wiring, would you be able to help select which options are needed?
Tony's Garage hi watched your video on adjusting the throttle cable on the Sportsters I have a question for you I own a 97 883 hugger Sportster CV 40mm carb now on this type of carb routing the throttle and I del cable's would I route the throttle cable to the front side of the butterfly cam and the Idea cable to the rear side of the cam?
I installed a stage 1on my sporste. I was an idiot and fiddles with throttle body flap when i had the air cleaner off. When i started my bike up with the vance and hines fp3 it gave me a throttle position sensor too low and i can smell my bike running rich. will this help me reset my throttle and fix that issue? Thanks for any tips or advic.
Hi Tony's Garage your video is very good! I from to Brazil and I have one sportster 1200. My bike has a problem or balance. Do you have a video that changes the balance? Sorry, but my english is terrible.
nice vid but i do believe you do not put the lube tube in the hole in the top the lube hole is on the side opposite the tightening screw the hole on the top is for holding the rubber insert in place at least it is on the one i have in the uk.
Hey Tony, I hope you are okay. I'm new on this, got a question! Both cables need to be lubricated is it? Or only the front one that opens the butterfly? You made me that confident to do this, and go a head with my bike 😅
6 years late but great video man. great explanations and how to.
So far this is the best video I've seen on how to adjust the throttle cables. Thanks a million !

Very good/informative 👍🏼
so how do you adjust the throttle cable and return
Some explain how to adjust or use that star looking screw adjuster between the two cables... Thanks.

Throttle cable will always pull the throttle open. More than likely it is the frontside. Hope this helps thanks for watching and ride safe.

I would give Venice and Hines a call for a recommendation. They are very helpful with situations like this. Ride safe.

I swapped grips and didn’t adjust anything, now my bike won’t start unless in neutral, is it because I didn’t adjust the cables?
Check the clutch pressure switch.

Tbh, there’s a lot of talking and you still don’t clearly show how to adjust it.
