Hi Tony, Awesome video as I just bought other WIllie G grips. Is that replacement switches you have on? Mine is all worn off. Please let me know where you got those that I can order as well.
I love how you glossed over the part where you fight with the brass pieces while attaching the idle and throttle cable. I have my cables collapsed all the way and I still am having a hell of a time getting the throttle side on.
Joe Troutt are they fully seated in the throttle body? Check and make sure they are in the correct position. I mixed up the the throttle and idle cables once.
@@TonysGarage I got them on. I had to take the throttle grip completely off and hook the cables up to it and then put it back on. I've never had to do that way before but it worked. 😁
If the new grips are longer than than the old grips do you need to adjust brake and clutch lever further up the bars or is it ok if inside the new longer grips they do not go up to the bars?
What year and model is that Sportster? It appears to be much easier to deal with. I just helped install Biltwell grips on my neighbors ‘13 Forty-Eight last night. On his, the Run/Start switches were connected to the upper housing. The tight space caused him to lose one brass ferrule.
My Avon grips on iron 2020 doesn’t fit well on the clutch side. Switch housing sits a little off and I already messed up the screws and have to get a new one. I put some rubbing alcohol inside the grip so it holds it pretty good but it still moves a little bit. Any suggestion? I’ll go to harley and get screws so I can try again.
thanks for the video. helped a lot. i accidentally snapped off one of the tiny housing clips from the clutch side when i went to screw it back on. no big deal tho. love my new grips
Thanks for the video. Getting ready to put on some heated grips and just wanted to find out a few details not shown in the instructions..mainly, how to remove the existing ones...
Very glad I watched this one first. I'm a content creator as well and I really appreciate those who share what they can do help others. God bless you brother
If you take a long spray tube with WD40 and run it as far as you can into the grip, then spray, that grip will come off. No problem with any grip I've ever done.
Hey man when you first went to the biltwell recoils, did you notice a sensitive or touchy throttle? I just replaced mine and it feels sensitive as hell. Idk if its more of muscle memory with the thinner grip or what. Ive adjust the cables to have no slack and still feels “loose”.
Hey Tony I got an iron 883 as well and installed the kuryakyn kinetic grips but had an issue with the clutch side the glue provided that was the black widow adhesive i used to glue the clutch side, I believe I glued it on incorrectly and now my grip is loose on the inside but I can not remove the grip as the glue has set on the outer side. I tried using a screw driver, wd40 and it still stuck? Is there anything i can do to remove it without destroying the grip? Spent $100 on them. Don't want to have to buy another set.
Hey Jeff, that clue is pretty tough stuff. Have you tried compressed air? If you have access to a air compressor you shoot air under the grip and loosen it up. Doesn’t always work but worth a shot. Also just plain old alcohol could help. Good luck.
I just bought these recently: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F331278674004 Before I dig in to installing these, does the clutch side look like it’s a glue-on type or switch-pack hold on type? Will I need to depress the brake light switch with some cardboard on the that side grip? Thanks for your help
Your video was the first one that popped up when I searched. Changing my grips today to some Avon ones as well. Thanks for doing this!
Hope it helps out!
Thanks for keeping my company during the grips replacement. 🤘
Best video I’ve seen. Well explained in detail and to the point.

They can be a little tricky at first but when you do them a few times it gets a lot easier.
@@TonysGarage I've done a few before and have never had this much trouble. I did just install new cables so they're not stock.

FYI I put some taller bars on so I'm having to replace everything. Now onto rewiring everything. Such joy. 😵

THANK YOU. you did a great video very clear explained.

Thanks for video. I try to replace my Harley street 750 grips soon..
Watched a couple of your vids, and from what I've seen you got a sub!
Thank you, out of town right now, but will have some new stuff up next week.

What handlebars are you running?
Thank you so much
What bars do you have

If I'm taking my grips off to just paint the grips and not changing the grips, do I still need to collapse the throttle and idle cables?
Yes sir, can’t get them off unless you do.
Thanks for the quick response. Appreciate it!!!
Can you help with adjusting the headlight, 2009 Sportster?
Adjusting the beam?
I found it! Thanks...…..
aircompressor takes grips off...remember to put locktite back on the screws you broke free.

+O Cruz they do have a little loose feeling for sure just started to notice that. As far as touchy you might have the throttle cable a little tight.
Tony's Garage thanks for the quick reply man. Ill try playing the the throttle cable some!
+O Cruz the sensitivity could come from the bigger grip like you said

Tks, great video 👍
Thanks for watching!
Careful not to be confused, but, it appears as though his left/right side have been mirrored.
use compressed air blows the grips on and off....atleast on my dirtbikes
what handle bars are you using?
Biltwell frisco
I just bought these recently:

Never mind. Following these steps it was super quick, simple and easy. No problems at all. Thanks!
Compressed air would’ve loosened those grips right off ..
They where glued on tried compressed air with no luck
where did you get your fuel gas cap? Can you put a link please? :)
It is a Harley part
The H-D flush gas cap part # for an Iron 883 3.3 gallon tank is 63134-10. The part # for a Forty-Eight 2.1 gallon tank is 63140-10.
👍🏾

Stupid question:what the heck is a "whiskey throttle"?
Home depot owes you money 😆
"69 degrees..." Nice
