Alan Wake 2 Review - The Final Verdict

- Опубликовано: 16 окт 2024
- Alan Wake 2 is the newest survival horror title by Remedy, better known for its work on the original Alan Wake, as well as Control. The game puts players in the shoes of FBI agent Saga Anderson who visits Bright Falls to investigate a creepy event. After discovering that the victim was FBI agent Robert Nightingale from the first game, the story kicks things up a notch by interesting incredibly creepy enemies, spooky environments, and the constant feeling that you’re being watched.
The game is also downright gorgeous, making excellent use of light and shadows to hide just enough to let things start feeling spooky. Light quickly becomes the sign of a safe haven, but even permanent light fixtures can often break down. The only real downside to Alan Wake 2 is that those that aren’t familiar with the original’s story might feel a bit lost, especially in its opening hours.
Original and creative concepts is hard to come by these days, AW2 continues the legacy.👍
Alan Wake is a gem. Can't wait to play this game.
Just beat it. It was trash
@@Arcanenix didn't like anything about it?
@@sikevillain the parts when you play as Alan was the best part. Saga felt so forced into the game
This is truly a next gen title. Ambient sound design is incredible as well as the graphics, atmosphere and environments. Remedy always pushed the industry forward in graphical fidelity. Max Payne 1 when it released was revolutionary for it's bullet time and animations. Max Payne 2 for the physics and graphics. Control was the game to show off and market Ray tracing. And on top of that all these games have amazing storytelling, writing and actors. Well done to Remedy. I get it that it's sad we don't have physical release but without Epic's budget and funding this game wouldn't have been made. It looks stunning
I was such a huge fan of the first game! I am playing this tonight.
Played Control and loved it. Played Alan Wake many years so I did need a recap on the story/lore. Thankfully, there are plenty of videos for that on RUclips and I must say I am looking forward to playing Alan Wake 2.
GOTY, just like Dead Space, Metroid Prime Rematered, RE 4 Remake, Zelda TotK, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Final Fantasy 16, Starfield, Baldurs Gate 3, Mario Wonder and Spider-Man 2!
Star wars was awful
Starfield was horrible.
@haraldjohansen1867 your bias is showing. It was an amazing game for its scale
What a stacked year, we've been spoilt!
@@nolanboerger2162 It was mediocre at best. And what scale? A thousand empty planets, a couple of cities and endless filler content.
GOTY contenders of this year for me personally are Resident Evil 4 RE, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the kingdom, Final Fantasy XVI, Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2 and Super Mario Wonder!
Finally bought it. First boss was extremely difficult because there isn't much gameplay practice before it... I almost decided to delete the game... but I managed to beat boss 1, and the game just opened up. Really strong experience. I think I slightly prefer Alan Wake 1, but 2 was very solid and at times, mind-blowing. The actors got the tone perfectly. Also, the gunplay in this game can get really fun.
YES! Its good! Phew. This one was personal to me because I am a Remedy fanboy and I did a very rare (for me) preorder.
"...and, unlike the original Alan Wake, the core gameplay is fun too"
Heh. Honestly, I needed to hear this, because that was my issue with the first one, lol
I really want to play this game, but the minimum PC requirements are unfortunately what I was fearing: way past my current build. My first indication was Cyberpunk and most recently Street Fighter 6, but now there's no denying it. It's most definitely upgrade time. Mark my words though, once I have updated, this will be the first game I complete.
Cheers!
Lol noob, get a console 😅😅
just get a console instead of dropping thousands on a gaming rig…..
Now it feels like we're finally in the Next Generation of gaming
Ya, 60 fps lol

How much of the title character do you actually play as in the entire game?
It's 50/50
When you reach a certain point you can choose to play through completion as one or the other.
Not enough
Can’t wait to play AW2 tonight! Just replayed AW and Control with all DLC’s recently. Going to be up late regardless of work tomorrow 😅
Already downloaded in my PS5 two days ago...Waiting on official release in 8h30min and counting 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Right there with you man! Cleared the schedule for mañana
Its simply incrediable the best game for me all year
Another GOTY contender! What a great year to be a gamer.
It's not a game in the year contender it won't even be in the conversation. There's too many games that have it beat in scores and sales and word of mouth alone.

After finishing the game and getting the plat on PS5, I can say now that this was a great experience. Definitely helps if you played the first Alan Wake and Control along with both games dlc.
played 45 minutes of it and ran into a softlock requiring me to restart the entire game... there was no way to progress with the dude frozen in the table
Finished the game recently on ps5. It is a masterpiece!
How is the performance on mid tier cards like 3080 or 3070?
I would consider a 3080 to be a low high-end card lol
It can only support medium, its very taxing needing a 4080 for high, 4090 for raytracing
@@RemittentDig17 I am running it on a 13700k + 4080 at 4K Ultra with Ray Tracing enabled and DLSS Balanced and getting between 50-70fps. Turning Ray Tracing off bumps it up to 80-90fps.
I would consider getting a console
I was really enjoying the game but I'm locked out of progression until they patch the espresso express bug. I just cant get the circuit board. Either none of the carts are connected or all but one cart are connected and the one that isn't connected is the one right in front of the gap that I need to jump down. I've never experienced a bug that actually soft locks me like this. So until they patch this ridiculous bug I can't play the game. It's sad really
Just got my PS5 on Sunday when I finshed work from Best Buy so excited and bless when I got it pre-ordered Alan Wake 2 the Deluxe Edition late Monday night cannot wait to play when it hits 12:00am tomorrow on my PS5 the game looks good played the first game on the Xbox 360 and also got the Alan Wake Remastered for the PS4 Pro
does this game have real world product placement? did energizer come back?
The only thing frustrating about AW2 is its level design - It can leave you absolutely mindfucked. The rest of the game is brilliant and engaging, especially the story
And remedy states that you DON'T need to play first game or control.
This game looks and feels amazing can't wait
Exactly how do you know how it “feels”?
@@XiLock_Alotx music atmosphere vibe
So tired of people bitching about jump scares. They do add tension to a game if used properly…
That's what I thought.. it's a classic technique.
DUDE …. I don’t want to know what happens in the bloody game spoilers 🤦🏻♂️
He literally told us what happens at the beginning lol
In my experience, the game is kind of a mixed bag. Although it can look graphically impressive, unfortunately, I also have experienced many graphical issues on my playthrough and 2 crashes on my PC that prevented me from going forward and took me out of the experience.
Interacting with the board can feel clunky, broken, and unresponsive at times and it can be frustrating, to say the least. The jumpscare gets old and repetitive...
The game is solid when it's working but performance wise especially on PC needs a patch ASAP.
It's a shame really, because I thoroughly enjoy Control till the end. The game remains one of my favorites from Remedy, but Alan Wake 2 is just not hitting the same notes.
One of game of the year easily in 2023 3 hours in and loving it
I played this on PC with max settings and Ray and path tracing enabled and it gave my 4090 some trouble. More than cyberpunk did for some reason still held 70 to 80 fps compared to cyberpunks 110-115
I was confused at part ones plot lol..maybe im slow..but gameplay was average on part 1 as well..ill buy this on sale only
An atmosphere is so like Resident Evil
WARNING- imo there’s a section of this review that’s kinda spoilery so if you want to go into this game totally blind I recommend skipping 2:05 to 2:55
if only he could tell me WHY the story is good...
i hear jump scares and frame rate drops but still see a 9/10. it makes no sense
how is the gameplay pacing, the depth of the mechanics, the world structure etc.?
where is the actual information ?
the game is good. trust me
it bored me tbh
"Unlike the OG Alan Wake the core gameplay is fun too". Wtf is that supposed to mean?. OG's gameplay was fun, if not the game wouldn't be as popular. The gun play it's the same as this but more like a 3rd person shooter instead of a survival horror like RE. And of course the gameplay seems better here becuse they're improving upon the 1st but that's expected and doesn't take away from what the OG achieved on it's own.
Man this year has been too stacked, almost done with Spider-Man 2 and deff jumping to this once I’m done.
No physical = No purchase

Alan Wake 2 could be the underdog 2023 Game of the Year.
Underdog? Lmao this game is easily the most anticipated game of 2023. Been waiting 13 years for this.
@@MeGustanLosTacos1013 To be fair, not many people have played the first game so those people aren't really anticipating it as much as you or me. Also have been waiting 13 years for this.
@@MeGustanLosTacos1013most anticipated is probably baldurs gate 3 or spiderman 2
What was that awesome guitar music towards the end?
3rd review I've seen - two 9s and a 10.
Tbf the first game had a lot of obnoxious jump scares too. Dunno why they can't just trust the ambience they created
I still need to finish cyberpunk 2077. Then going to play AC Mirage and Spiderman 2 then I'll play Alan Wake 2 in like 6 months. Having kids seriously cuts into gaming time
The few hours for the game to be released feel worse than the 13 year wait
i should finish the first one asap
This has got to be the most strangest weirdest game i've ever play
Tis awesome.
Will wait till it comes to Steam. I don't feel like it's a game I have to break my Epic Games virginity with.
I think it's published by Epic so not sure if it will go to Steam. I could be wrong about that.
It's not coming to Steam ever bud.
Get a console you noob lol

It breaks my heart but I refuse to buy AW2 in it's current state. The release situation is a mess imho. I own a console because I want physical copies of my games. I could live with buying it digitally on Steam but on pc it's exclusive to the Epic Game Store. Hopefully it'll come to game pass one day. I am not paying full price on console for digital only.
What version did you play to review this
Marvels Spider-Man 2 🆚️ Alan Wake II

I played and beat Control. The "control" is great and gunplay is fantastic. But the story is really meh. I hated the fact you had to go back and forth between sectors for those repetitive encounters. Didn't bother to play the AW dlc. I know I am going to love AW2 because this game is pretty straight forward.
AW dlc wasn't that good. It was fun seeing alan wake in another game, and it gives some clues as to what alan have been up to since he got swallowed by the darkness but that's it. Hartman boss fight was annoying AF. And the rest was just more Control.
I got tricked from reviewers saying its a 10 out of 10, “evil within” shits diarrhea all over this game ! Alan wake 2 gets a 5 out of 10 from me …
So many spoilers in this review...

Didn't this channel give AW1 an 8/10? For just the 2021 re-release, no less?
Doesn't seem like a game without "fun core gameplay" would get an 8/10 eleven years after its initial release.
The gameplay of AW1 feel actually decent. But the light mechanic and enemies lacks depth in the long run. Overall the story, setpieces and exploration is great enough to warrant a 8/10.
Gunplay gets a lot better in AW:american nightmare tho.
Original game was amazingly fun.

is it me or is it the games? The games don't make me spend money on them so quickly anymore... I feel like I've already seen it all... where's the art... I'm getting old
Next time add a video explaining alan wake 1 and control story
Guys. Don't expect too much from this game. Does it look good? Yes. Is it fun to play? For first few hours yes. Then the mystery of the game dissapears and you start seeing the flaws. Lack of action - or meaningless action where you dont actually have to engage you just run past the enemies. The game is very bad at giving you hints what you are supposed to do so you end up wasting A LOT of time just running around until you give up and look up on youtube. There are some really annyoing thins like when the game quicksaves at a boss fight when you are low health and no ammo and you basically cant backtrack to get seome resources so you end up stuck. The story is so confusing you end up not caring at all. So you just run around and run around until you quit the game and decide to play something else.
That cash Club casino advert is a simpsons rip off haha 😄
Final score: 9/10

It has the same problem as the first game in that... its not scary.

Great review. I dont support digital only so i wont buy it. If people want Sony and Microsoft controlling the prices on games without anything that can control them.. or any form of competition.. go ahead. Good luck buying your games for insane amounts of money in the future! And getting sales only when the almighty Sony and Microsoft allowing it.. until there is a honest system where companies can sell keys for games without sony and Microsoft controlling it, (i know there is but barely any competition and lots of dubious companies) i wont buy anything digital only period.
DF review came out and I have to say. "Pathetic". Not taking anything away from the PC quality or the gameplay/story but having no Ray Tracing for consoles??? Bad shadow quality? Like why even? Should have had this as a PC exclusive. Why have a generational gap between PC and consoles. This could have been a better game on consoles if optimized good as we saw the Last of US, Callisto Protocol, which compare pretty good to their PC counterparts
The falshing when enemies are hit with the light is awful looking...
Ofcourse the lead has to be black and female…..
And is that other cop Max Payne?
Game could be interesting but I refuse supporting this digital only release crap! I want to actually OWN what I pay for and not “lease” a game.
I don’t like to depend on shady game publishers who can decide for how I can play a game.
In all fairness you don’t really own shit even if you have the disc. Physical is the same as digital with extra steps. The only benefit physical disc has is you can easily borrow it to a friend or family member.
@@RaoulDuk3 maybe it’s my age but buying digital still feels odd to me. It’s a digital transaction and you have nothing in hand. But you are propably right with what you are saying, physical copies are often also just a “key” on a disc to “unlock” a download.
Glad I can still watch my movies on physical 4K discs and hold a sleeve and a booklet and stare at the great cover art.
The Final Verdict good movie shit game
