I met Oliver at a show in DC, was really sad I missed their set, but he was hanging out near the entrance talking to people, offered me free tickets to their show in Philly and a photo with him. Really nice dude, never really heard anything bad about him either.

I feel sorry for the BJM (especially the other guys) as it's hard to please the members of the audience who just want to hear the music but also please the one's who are there to see "DIG! live". I think Anton's response is obviously stupid but it's typical of him playing his persona (i think in reality he's probably a great guy). I don't see how anyone would pay to see a band and then create outrage over something which is essentially part of the performance. I've seen BJM several times now. Watching them play in Melbourne this tour it was confirmed what I had always suspected. BJM are a great band but they're also a very gimmicky band. Arguments on stage, the pedantic genius frontman making unnecessary demands, mocking 'rival' bands, redundant number of guitarists etc. I think the band has had to become a parody of itself in order to keep touring. Anton would love to just play music in a peaceful setting but he knows that isn't why a significant proportion of the audience are there.
I can definitely relate to your experience and sadly i think the majority of people's focus is on the persona of rock stars. People are stupid and they cannot separate fiction from reality. People also don't realise the band are middle aged now and not guys in their 20s. I think Anton has sadly been a victim of fame and everything about the business he was apparently against. It's sad when there's an expectation put on someone to behave a certain way when it's supposed to be about the music. Whenever I watch clips from DIG! now I find it cringeworthy and tacky. It might be cool when you're an immature teenager but it's not far off from films like Jackass.
Actually, if you went to there gig at Wollongong (after there Sydney gig) They did not even say a single word on stage. They just played music.....it was magical
Nah. Anton really is a crabby bitch sometimes. I witnessed him battle his hunger demons after the show when we were talking to him as he sat on his tour bus with an open window waiting for Joel to bring him his pizza. He was drinking the same kind of Kombucha I drink and we agreed how its good for the gut. So he must experience some gut issues which can be painful. Also if you watch him on stage it's obvious he has chiropractic issues near his hips/lower back, which can be frustrating as hell because it causes a lot of pain...especially when standing on stage for hours playing a guitar. So I think his crabbiness on stage these days is still legit. There was real tension coming from Joel. It wasn't fake. Joel gets genuinely annoyed with him and like just wants to finish the show and get out of there. So when Anton gets picky or starts his drama, Joel turns away from the audience so he can roll his eyes and sigh to himself. Anton wants perfection but there is no such thing so he's a pain in the ass a lot but he knows that about himself and those of us who adore him wouldn't have him any other way. Nothing fake about him. He may come across a little fake when he's trying to socialize sometimes but that's because he's a good guy and he really wants to try and be polite and not put his foot in his mouth but you know...he's Anton lol.
