that's fantastic -- I literally stumbled into him as I walked onto the outside desk and he was smoking a. cig, alone, by the door. We talked for about 10 minutes. I don't personally know him -- but I've been studying him as a person father, musician -- and husband, I guess. He is a funny guy who loves to tell stories-- but he can grow dark very fast, He doesnt' take criticism well, that's for sure. So I didn't;t critizine him -- except to say in a mildly shamming funny way: "Are you till smoking those non-filter cigarettes>? I knew he was.....so we talked cigarettes, ANYTHING but asking how the tour is going on getting into the problems I know he's going through. No -- I kept it at cigarettes, -- he's a great bunch of guys,,,

hmmmm. I was SO looking forward to these records -- I was there during Covid lockdown when he started writing all this tuff and putting it out on his youtube page every day -- and he was really nice about it -- very supportive. He wrote the whole time and many of the songs on these two records ended up on his page WAY before the records came out --I LOVED the stuff he posted. Everyday other day, we could all look forward to another Anton song cheering us on through the pandemic. Then the records came out -- and IDK -- not All of it is from the Covid lockdown sessions, but a lot of it is. Maybe it's because I heard these song as "works de progress." so many times, I couldn't appreciate them when they appeared on the record. They are good records-- I don't think they are GREAT by any means -- he uses lots of the same writing and composing tricks he's used in past, and some of it even sounded like older songs. Hed be angry that I say this, but I really think he needs to stop worrying about OUTPUT and start focusing more on making a few REALLY good songs. He prides himself on fast gonzo recording-- how about slowing things down a little and learning to do something more sophisticated than constantly playing same three chords and finding a way to rhyme "deal" with "head" -- he can do it, he just needs to focus more on ONE song and not worry about putting out 2 records. but he has his own label, so do what you please. But one was enough to me, the first one -- it is very good though his lazy turnarounds and lyrcs are on full display. Sorry - I'm a musician too and I'm stunned at how little time it takes to come up with guts of a song......He works too fast and it shows. Plus, I'm still angry he bailed after Melborune, went MIA for seven months then appeared in a photo had posted of his huge Y shaped scar, still rather bloody. It seemed almost as if he were wearing it as badge of honor, that he survived. --- very strange and troubling -- but that's always been going on.

    • @jgwire

    • @jgwire
      @jgwire Месяц назад

@@BobbyGeneric145 Oh yeah! tepid peppermint 1 was my official intro to the band -- cause I was totally lost, there is so much stuff. Where do you start? Years later, I was STILL stumbling onto stuff Ive not heard. And the ENDLESS videos --A fav is the Atlanta show in 1998 -- he got into it with a guy in the crowd. But it was obvious h was REALLY trying.....He's just a fascinating person, warts and all -- he's not afraid to show his warts -- I admire him for that. I've watched him cook a pot roast from scratch,. paint his new studio, interview friends online --he used to document EVERYTHING and it's all still there on DEAD TV. He even did one segment about how to come up with song ideas . He put on some velvet underground and messed with drums for inspiration. Soon he had made something new -- and off he went to write and record it based on the drums from Rock and Roll or What Goes On -- or something classic.
I even watched him record and mix for 2 hours straight when he went online a few years ago -- actually many years ago - and opened the camera to his laptop -- WHO DOES THIS? Most musicians want to keep secrets about hacks and tricks and recording techniques -- -- he was giving it away -- it was so interesting - he carried the laptop from place to place so folks could see him do drums, keys, guitars -- He even narrated it!
It was a master class in Anton's gonzo recording.
I'm a 'm a musician and I record at home on Logic -- so it helped me so much. He even answered a few gear questions I had on twitter and sent me pictures of his 4 ribbon mics. WHO DOES THIS? HE DOES care -- he is just an "egomaniac with an inferiority complex" -- most addicts and alcoholics are that way -- " I don't CARE what other people say," -- later " So what did people say? DId they like it?" lol
I don't want to bash him anymore. I regret sending shaming and ugly messages to you and others about his personal problems - drinking, smoking blah blah. It makes me mad, but so what..... Ill get over it - and it's HIS heart.
Most important to me, though, is that he has a disease alcoholism and it must be treated. He has even said so when he let his guard down. He's not a BAD person trying to get GOOD -- he's a SICK person trying -- or he was -trying -- to get Well. He gave a real alcoholic, psychotic shit show last year and paid a big price.
He would be an idiot carry on and drink and drink like he did in' 23 --- hopefully the early 2025 will reveal a sober Anton who is ready to make great music again.
You know, it's kinda like what Keith Richards faced after his heroin bust in Toronto in 77 --- he FINALLY realized that he can play and write and perform music -- or he can shoot up and die too soon --- Keith kicked heroin. HE CAN'T DO BOTH -- and neither can Anton. No one can fo long.
An addict or alcoholic deep into their addiction can't see reality -- they really think what they are doing if OK when it clear to everyone else that Its NOT OK.
-- I wish him well and all is forgiven -- I was "hurt" when he went off the rails and off the wagon like that -- because his sobriety was what was making ALL this possible -- and when he relapsed I just went ape shit.
ANd yes, I DO care about the man, why would I not? He's on the only musician who write songs that make me cry --- and that's a good and rare thing. I don't worship him or think he's something he's not -- I'm certainly no Anton Apologist - but I had expectations about his sobriety and I got angry when he didn't meet them - Plus - I'm really not into all the gossip and personal stuff-- though he drags that into the mix so we HAVE to look at it.
Let's keep fingers crossed that he got his shit together. Sorry to write such long messages. I'm a professional writer, which doesn't mean I'm any good -- it just means I can write fast -- haha. JMHO -- thanks!!!

@@BobbyGeneric145 Ill take a closer listen with. a better attitude -- this scandal and heart attack kinda stained those records -- and I'm sorry -- I listened to both on repeat in an attempt to get the groove -- but i keep thinking - he could have put one hell of a good record out if he had just done ONE record -- or even a double record..which means nothing in digital. I liked the new stuff -- I just didn't think it demonstrated just how well he has mastered his craft -- however the mixing is just as important, I['' return with fresh ears and a better attitude. Thanks.

You aren't from the Jonestown massacre. You're from a crappy band named after the Jonestown massacre because you have poor taste.

Brian Jonestown is a pormanteau, similar to internet (interconnected network) and spork (spoon + fork).

There was never a "Jonestown" Massacre. It was the JAMEStown Massacre. Brian Jones refers to the Stones early guitarist. Oh well, whatever, nevermind...

The “Jonestown Massacre” occurred on November 18, 1978, when more than 900 members of an American cult called the Peoples Temple died in a mass suicide-murder under the direction of their leader Jim Jones (1931-78). It took place at the so-called Jonestown settlement in the South American nation of Guyana.

Jonestown Massacre. November 18th, 1978. In reference to both Brian Jones and Jim Jones, leader of the Peoples Temple cult and, naturally, founder of “Jonestown” (formally, the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project).
