We still love Lucy but WOW, the stories about her being domineering are true! She practically commands the interview! But hey, with as successful a career as she's had in Radio, Film and Television, both as a performer and producer, who can say she was wrong? Not me.
He had a wonderful talent for letting the guest have the spotlight, and I've seen times where he would jump in and help them out of any awkward moment. It seems that he understood it was a big deal to many people's careers to be on his show and wanted it to be a good memorable experience for them.
Her son was very quick and looked like he had years of experience in managing his (sometimes difficult) mom, though they probably argued a lot. Only you!" lol I noticed the repeated "I'm working very hard" it sure looks like Lucy was the type that expected her kids not to laze around and to earn their bread. I could be wrong!
I grew up in the 70s and it was a magical time. The world seemed like a safer and warmer place during that period. I long for those days. Best years of my life.
Think Tank Lucille Ball could dance and sing make you laugh and also play serious rolls in movies. Name one Hollywood actor that started out within the last twenty years can make that claim.
There's nobody that can hold a candle to Johnny Carson he was the epitome of a talk show host there will be nobody like Johnny Carson ever he was so funny in a natural way
I love her dual personality she can flip from serious and blunt to witty and sarcastic it shows a strong women who’s taking no crap it also shows a women who may have been scared to fall out of the spotlight and recognition. I also respect her opinion on girls being taken advantage off purely for the status of “showbizz”
It’s not a personality “change” it’s just she’s very wise and understood “all that glitters ain’t gold” which is all Hollywood sells and sexism greed and toxicity.
Lucille Ball was an incredibly smart and savvy Lady in a male dominated business. She literally carved out a place for herself and made a stunning impact on US showbiz.
Kevin Kelley I worked in an organization of half men and half women for 25 years and I never saw a woman surprised. They had director jobs and pay was equal. The top dog was always a man but that’s because no women applied for that job. Also, if I had to count I had women pinch my ass many times and never saw a man do that. I don’t know what all the fuss is. Maybe it’s different in the USA.
Shows like this are sad and happy to see. My mom and dad were still alive and everything was good. I felt safe just knowing that they were there and when they said 'don't worry' about things...I didn't . I miss you guys so much, but love you more...

Then, as now, and CEO or high school girl, it's imperative for women of all ages and stations to say out loud, confidently, and without necessarily yelling, simply: "Don't touch me." Or "Don't touch me like that."
She was 63 years old here & tough as nails. She comes off as difficult, but I'm sure she had her reasons. RIP Lucille Ball. You brought me so much joy when I was a kid.
@@cathycollins9538 I agree somewhat with you, but she was also a lot older here (grouchy). And she lived through a different era which wasn't too kind to women, especially in the Showbiz industry. I think of her as one of the pioneers of women's rights in Hollywood. She eventually became co-owner of Desilu Productions and was the first woman to head a production studio. The original show "Star Trek" would've never happened if not for her. She fought for it as long as she could afford to. She was a very strong minded person.
She was truly a legend and absolutely unforgettable. All you have to say is "Lucy" and everyone knows who you're talking about. A lot of people don't know that in addition to being a terrific comedic actress, she was a very savvy businesswoman and progressive female for her generation. There will never be another one like her.
Why I Love Lucy...that incredible genuine laugh. She acts all tough then the child comes out and she claps and laughs like a 5 year old. I do love Lucy.💜💜💜
I love this woman. And I admire the way she raised her kids. She didn’t let someone else do it for her. It shows right here the bond they have. She was a nice human being. You are still loved and missed Lucy.
cyndy rob No no-- Haven't u read that nannies mainly brought the kids up??!! And I've read accounts of many many actors that worked with her that it was a nightmare to work with her!! Personally, I love "I Love Lucy" show but not her as a person. Also read that the people working in Lucy's home felt very sorry for her kids because she was either distant toward them or was mean to them. NOT a nice person!!!!!!
@@foofookachoo1136 Well yeah...but she sure left them multi-millionaires and neither one of them were that successful on their own. Must be nice.. don't care how 'crabby' she can be!!! 😆 Would love to be her daughter.
cyndy rob I don't think 'nice' is the right word for Lucy. As a producer - and a woman- in the 1960s and 1970s she had to be tough. And so she was. Toughness in a woman then bred no real friendships and apart from Vivian Vance and perhaps a couple of others within the industry, these were thin on the ground. Talented, reliable, honest, a good mother yes; but not 'nice'.
she was down to earth ...never vain and decided to age gracefully without botox facelifts. she was the best and so loving but as U said tough, she was persistence to make things happen. i loved her like i loved my mom, she reminds me of my mom as she grew older. she loved her kids unconditionally.
@@foofookachoo1136 It pains me to say it because I was once a huge Lucy fan, but I'm afraid you are correct. I even went to Lucy's memorial mass years ago in Beverly Hills. Lucie Arnaz came in with Carol Burnett and went into the family pew just in front of me. Since that time, though, I have read many negative accounts of Lucille Ball. Several years ago, a memoir came out written by a man who had been Lucille Ball's personal assistant for several years. In it, he gives an account of how Desi Jr. at dinner one night was excited about telling his mother about a church he had found and joined because it was helping him very much with his drug problem. Lucy's personal assistant said he felt very bad for Desi Jr. because his mother wasn't at all interested in hearing about it and changed the subject. Another time, Lucie Arnaz on a talk show made the comment that she found it difficult to understand how someone (meaning her mother) could so often talk about how badly she wanted children and how many years she had waited to have them and then, after having two, could so easily leave them with hired help and go back to work. This was an honest comment by Lucie Arnaz, yet she was criticized for making it. I cannot help but notice that Lucie Arnaz did not then do to her own children by repeating what she had so disliked her mother having done to her and to her brother. She gave up her career to stay home with her children. She said she wanted to be home with them not just physically, but emotionally as well. One has to respect her very much for this. I certainly do.
Love when she was talking about exploitation in show business: "They'd rather work than be an unemployed actor. I'd rather be an unemployed gas employee" so smart and classy. Rarity nowadays.
@Kathryn Molesa I love Lucy & Desi & wished they could have stayed together. If you google, you will see that their son had a child, I think, when he was 15. We will never know what arrangements were made at that time (I was not alive then), but in finding this out recently, I was surprised. They hid it well. That baby daughter grew up to have challenging experiences & is now a mother herself. That young daughter which would be Desi Jr's. granddaughter/Desiree is now being photographed & compared to Lucille Ball as Lucy was a model & iconic beauty. It appears that Desi Jr. at some point got in touch with his daughter. No family is perfect & there are a great deal of things that we never really know about anyone....which is not to say that they are or are not wonderful adults...just that no family is picture perfect or completely wonderful as we are all imperfect. ---------"Daughter at 15 Desi Arnaz Jr. was a problematic boy. His celebrity parents lived their own life, and despite being treated “like a real son” on a TV show, the boy experienced little attention. Music and drugs played an integral part in his teenage life. Under the influence of the trendy dangers and due to the lack of attention, Desi Arnaz Jr. became a father to his daughter, Julia, at 15. He was immediately limited from his girlfriend, and it wasn’t until 1990 when he officially assured via the DNA test that Julia was his daughter." Desi Arnaz Jr. in his own words/interview: ruclips.net/video/bKOinPRqm6I/видео.html My thoughts: Life is challenging for everyone, but sometimes we all become tooooo self-absorbed. I always wonder why someone who has every opportunity, who never has to worry about money, never has to worry about health insurance or clothes, food, paying bills, paying for college or paying for anything...doesn't help others. Think about helping others & making a difference for others & in turn yourself by helping others. There are so many people who never have financial freedom or security, but also volunteer & make a difference. It seems that many people are their own worst enemy.
@@melissaallen3918 one reason is we have people who literally went to college and have a career for that purpose of helping people. No need for everyone to get involved. It's like to many chiefs and not enough indians. They know where to get help. Every urban city has places to help. People havecto want help, and use the programs to get back independent. Or become independent for the first time in their lives.

Desi Arnaz was the force behind Desilu. Lucille Ball was the first to admit she was not a businesswoman. When Desi sold out to her in 1962, she relied on advisors like Herb Solow and Martin Leeds. And she sold the business five years later, to Paramount.
@@jaredjlinden Google, research, read, please. You will learn otherwise. Desi and Lucy made a great business team..yes. But Desi sold all his shares of Desilu to Lucille Ball, making her the owner and head of the studio, while also the star and executive producer of 4 successful Lucy television shows. Desilu Studios also produced many other popular TV shows and films.
Exactly that's what most people don't understand friends not acquaintances will joke around it means friendship is an UNCONDITIONAL love . People today way way way to sensitive that's why people should find like minded people
Lucy's strength really comes through her presence in interacting with people, encompassing a razor sharp wit that even stuns the great Johnny Carson. She's earned the respect to be the greatest! Thank you Lucy for allowing us to find laughter even in dark times. We All ❤ Lucy! ⚘ RIP
I love how Lucy is so motherly with him. Making sure he was ok when he came out. You could see for a moment her heart broke thinking he was hurt. She is amazing
Many people don't remember that Desilu, la production company started by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, her husband back then, produced series like "The Untouchables, Mission Impossible, and Star Trek. Also Desi Arnaz started the tecnique of filming sitcoms with 3 cameras on a sound stage in front of live audiences. The filming permitted the beginning of what we know as reruns, allowing Desilu Studios a hefty profit. So Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were not only successful sitcom actors, but were two of the most important developers of modern television. And who didn´t grow up watching reruns of "I Love Lucy"? It was an unforgetable part of my childhood. Great lady.

@@dandelion-honey Yes, I do agree about Desi Arnaz jr having two hard-working intelligent and talented parents and he was talented himself, but early on showed two distinct problems that his father had, chasing the ladies, making a young girl pregnant when they were both 15 (did not go for a DNA test till a lot later, while finally meeting his daughter, don't think that he and his daughter really connected). Also had a serious drug abuse problem. I think it was drugs and alcohol. Identifications with his father's issues. Fortunately his parents stood by and supported him while he was in rehab and do believe that he is totally okay now - but either 69 or 70. Seems he stays out of the limelight but works for the New Life Foundation that he feels saved his life. Both his wife and one of his granddaughters died. Rough times, but fortunately he is doing ok.
Lucy and Bette Davis were the hardest working women of their times who rose above The Hollywood Men's Club and put them in their place with their pure talent, dedication, and perseverance towards generating high quality entertainment in each of their genres. They both will always be remembered forever.
This episode/type of comedy is *GOLD* ! I would much rather watch *this* than even half of what is on now! Cuz *this* .... now *THIS* was really funny! Not all the nasty stuff that is shown nowadays. Lucy would be very disappointed in how far we have *really* fallen now for sure!

No late night bullshit politics it was pure entertainment that people needed right before they went to sleep. Johnny Carson was in National Treasure. He allowed is guests to shine he was decent didn't get involved in anything controversial it was just easy to watch it didn't excite. all the shows late night shows I haven't watched in years especially the last three and a half years. these late night talk show hosts are no longer ent entertainers but are shills of the left
maybe it wasn't easy, but he was no sweetheart back then; he was a dad at 15...but a deadbeat; Lucy never acknowledged the child...both of her children were... google it: loved the clip tho...
I wish I was that little girl again, watching I love lucy with my mother at 5:00 pm. Waiting for my dad to come home from work! Such a beautiful memory of my childhood, and one of the funniest shows ever! She was a comical genius!
"I Love Lucy" is the only American show that can make me laugh to tears, although I was born long after the show had ended. No other American TV shows or Hollywood comedies can match it.
I lived in her old neighborhood in West Hollywood. Her house was right around the corner from me and George Peppard's house was right across the street and so was Alan Hale Jr's house. Can't imagine if I lived there all the same time they all lived there, it would have been mind blowing! I was told by my neighbors that their parents lived in my neighborhood in it's hey day and that Lucille was a great neighbor and would trade her fruit from her trees with other neighbors different fruit trees! On my property we had a Avocado tree, clementine and orange trees. Lucille's property had Avocado and lemon trees and they are still there to this day! Imagine making Avocado toast with fresh lemonade from those trees? How great would that be?
What I love seeing as much as Lucy and Johnny circa 1974 (I was 15-16) is seeing that this was uploaded just this year and it's already got over 2 million views! Right on!! Cuz these are legends that should never be forgot and I'm glad to see that they aren't. They're the "real" pioneers of Television. Sadly gone now yet never forgotten and forever Irreplaceable. They will live on forever in our hearts, the memories in our minds. RIP Lucy & Johnny, and Ed too. ❤
Exactly, Bruce. We won't see talent and class like this ever again, unless something radically changes in our society. Those were the golden days of television, and I miss those days. Thank you Lucy, Johnny and Ed, for so many great memories.
I love the funny story at the end, where Jr. found Johnny on the side of the road with a flat tire and gave him a ride home. Imagine helping someone and it is Johnny Carson, and you tell Johnny I am Lucille Ball's son, get in!
When my mom and I had been quarantined at the COVID-19 area of the hospital, we tuned in to Hits TV and watched The Lucy Show which gave us much comfort. Thank you Ms. Lucille Ball.

Lucy made an angry comment to her assistant and her assistant slapped her across her face.
Also, if I had to count I had women pinch my ass many times and never saw a man do that. cyndy rob I don't think 'nice' is the right word for Lucy.

It pains me to say it because I was once a huge Lucy fan, but I'm afraid you are correct.
An unemployed employee?
@@gabehills2489 You are one step closer to getting the joke lol
Lucy once said she had her kids on the series to keep an eye on them and out of trouble. They turned out to be wonderful adults.
---------"Daughter at 15
Desi Arnaz Jr. was a problematic boy. He was immediately limited from his girlfriend, and it wasn’t until 1990 when he officially assured via the DNA test that Julia was his daughter."
Desi Arnaz Jr. in his own words/interview: ruclips.net/video/bKOinPRqm6I/видео.html
My thoughts: Life is challenging for everyone, but sometimes we all become tooooo self-absorbed.
All three were molested
@@melissaallen3918 one reason is we have people who literally went to college and have a career for that purpose of helping people. No need for everyone to get involved. She was the first woman to run a major studio production. She is responsible for Star Trek, Mission Impossible, and Andy Griffith.
Why Johnny is the King and Lucille the Queen
Lucille Ball was a class act all by herself.....one of a kind....no other comedian or actors/actresses come close to filling her shoes. Love her! RIP Lucy!
Love these old talk shows -- funny, brilliant, bawdy, and still full of class.
He has the most soothing voice! And I LOVE his bell bottoms!!!!😍
I love Lucy. Don’t feel bad anymore. I have done the same to my kids, who are adults now. Watch them and still do and lucky me they appreciate me a lot. God Bless Lucy. She was one of a kind❤️🤗🙏🏼
Queen of Hollywood. I still cry because I miss her. Quite a lady! Thank you for all the years of laughter Lucy.
I miss her too. ❤
I love 💕 how happy she became when she saw her son! He looks just like his Dad! 💕
Back in the day when you went on Carson you dressed your best - nowadays I see people on talk shows dressed in shorts and T-shirts
The late-night talk show was once an American institution.
And it was a big deal when you were finally old enough to stay up late and watch the Tonight Show.
How I remember those flared pant legs. The disco era ushered in a narrower cut far better suited for dancing.
People used to dress their best to get on airplanes too. That was back when phones were still attached to the wall.
@@3-2-1-. the world has gone to Hell ! ✌
Who went on a talk show in Tee Shirt and Shorts? Doubtful.
Damn her son is so cute. 🔥🔥🔥
My granddaughter who was born a year was named Lucille after this wonderful lady!!
I love seeing these two together in this natural surprise moment! Beautiful!!!
Lucy is one great tough cookie. May she continue to RIP.
FYI Lucy had a woman that traveled, Slept next to, was what we call today a personal assistant , Since before she became rich and famous. Lucy made an angry comment to her assistant and her assistant slapped her across her face. And told her “Don’t forget where you came from” She was one of the first black women in Hollywood because of Lucy. She became a talent agent and Lucy helped her begin her business. That woman was 2’ away from her when she passed away. Can’t remember her name, But the book is phenomenal! She didn’t give a rats ass about color. Strictly class.
We love and miss you Lucy. RIP Dear
Late night was the best then. Glad we can watch them on RUclips.
Ever afternoon at 5 pm. She was simply hilarious. Unforgettable. She and Bob Hope were the best comedians. RIP
