- The Battle of Ain Jalut, also spelled Ayn Jalut, was fought between the Bahri Mamluks of Egypt and the Mongol Empire on 3 September 1260 near the spring of Ain Jalut in southeastern Galilee in the Jezreel Valley.
The battle has been cited as the first time the Mongols were permanently prevented from expanding their influence;
It also marked the first of two defeats the Mongols would face in their attempts to invade Egypt and the Levant, the other being the Battle of Marj al-Saffar in 1303. The earliest known use of the hand cannon in any military conflict is also documented to have taken place in this battle by the Mamluks, who used it to frighten the Mongol armies, according to Arabic military treatises of the 13th and 14th centuries.

The critical part of Qutuz' strategy was the box formation to remove the advantage of Mongol cavalry. He initially used Syrian conscripts who did not have Mamleuki discipline, to form one side of the box, with gaps in between. He was counting on the Syrian foot soldiers to retreat when pressed by Mongol cavalry, which they did, into the remaining three-sided box formed by Mamleuki archers, and then slowly closed the box, forcing the Mongol cavalry closer and closer together, removing their ability to freely move and pivot as they would on an open field. After that it was pretty much an open slaughterhouse. The remnants of the Mongol army fled eastward, and Qutuz and his forces pursued them, killing them, as far as the southern marshes in Iraq. This battle was the turning point that broke the Mongol steamroller, and also a pivotal point in how Muslims and Crusaders viewed Mongol battle tactics, and how to effectively neutralize them.
Imagine how terrifying this style of combat was
Mamluks defeated a vastly superior numerical force of Mongols with superior strategy, precision technical skill, and timing!!!

This video is so cool. Well done!
It's nice that both armies were respectful of the cameramen and the drones. How else could we enjoy such stunning footage from 1260 in 2024? 😁
Yes, a few arrows did come close but luckily the cameraman always survives ;)
I love this battle! Lots of moves and changing of tides by both of the commanders. Both were cunning strategists. I also noticed an improvement in music addition, which is always nice! Keep it up!
My only criticism would be that the armours (especially the frankish ones) are quite anachronistic (we see 16th century armets in a 13th century documentary) but I enjoyed the video regardless
Thanks man

Thanks a lot!
Awesome video please make more like this 🔥 🙏
Thanks man, I will certainly try my best 😊
Ah the battle that stopped the Mongols. Apparently the Mongol commander either surrendered or was captured and all he could he do was spout threats about what the Mongols were going to do in revenge. Eventually it became so tiresome that he was executed. Then again he was possibly simply slaughtered along with his troops.
No battle stopped the Mongols. Mongols stopped the Mongols. Mongol politics and clan structure stopped the Mongols.
Thank you!
Qutuz and Baybars were Turkish. The founder of Memluk empire were Turkish. They knew the tactics of mongols as they were originally from same steps..
Not Turkish … there was no such thing as Turkish like a nation state… from the modern day Turkey …. Turk .. or Turkic speaking peoples from a confederation of diverse peoples of the steps
Baibars was Circassian & Baibars is a Circassian name.
While Qutuz some people said he was from Khwarazm & some people said he was Circassian too.
@@db.sarvestani6554 you are a bit confused..Even the official name of the Memluk empire was “devlet ul Turkiyya “. Better to read and gather knowledge before replying on other people’s comment..
Turkish nationalism is a modern invention… the notion of Turkic people always implied a diverse range of peoples and ethnic groups from the steppes the Iranian plagues and Central Asia … come on dude stop with this Turkish nationalism bs @@svart7716

Moral of the story is be content with what you have.. stop trying to take from your neighbors
But my neighbor has lotsa shiny stuff…
it's not always that simple, however in this case, they had no business going West
More like do not make everyone hate you. People who are willing to fight for you will fight better than those who are forced to fight for you.
And a great time was had by all.
This battle didn't stop Mongols, it stopped Ilkhanate, a division of the Mongol Empire.
I'm not sure its troops had many Mongols. Supreme Khan of Mongol Empire Möngke Khan gave Hulagu Khan of the Ilkhanate a fifth of the entire Mongol army. I remind you that Genghis Khan had an army of 100 thousand people. So probably Hulagu Khan had less than 20 thousand Mongols in his army. Before the Battle of Ain Jalut Möngke Khan died and Hulagu returned to Mongolia to attend the kurultai for the next Great Khan. Hulagu took most Mongols with him. So in Ilkhanate army there were few of Mongols.
One Tumen of Mongols. About 10,000. The army that took Damascus included seven. If they had brought even two to Jalut things would have been very different.
Yes. The Mamluks would end up fighting the Mongols for the next 30 years, beating them in almost all battles, along with Cilician Armenians and Crusaders.
You have no idea about logistics. You can't feed an army greater than 20k troops in that territory. Turkic troops consist of the majority of Mongol armies from the beginning. Even the commander of the Ilkhanid army, Kitbuga was from a Turkic tribe and bor a Turkic name. Naimans were ancient Sekiz Oguz tribe of Turks.
No dude this battle was fought before the emergence of the ilkhanate.
@@sofeaail You must be joking 😂🤣
This was so cool
Thanks😇
Ertugrul Gazi, the father of the first Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Osman I, was a veteran of that battle.
The mongol horde was stopped in several places. Vietnam, Japan, Hungary, and the Mamluk empire all utterly defeated the mongol invasions. I'm fact noone ever moved through Vietnam safely a samurai army once tried to make it through to attack China the Vietnamese killed them in a vicious guerilla war much like they did the US military in our war against them.
In Indonesia too, in Java, an empire called Majapahit
@@radencandra3343 yeah the mongol horde really wasn't that powerful they just swept throughout a war torn China and Europe and in the end still got stopped in those nations as well lol honestly they just had a numerical advantage for a.long time and being an entirely cavalry army they moved alot faster than most others.
but this battle was the first time that the mongols suffered a major and decisive defeat -and in the words of no less an eminent historian as the late John Keegan caused a sensation throughout the known world (History of Warfare)
Do not fuck with fighting asians. Math asians, is ok, but not fighting asians.

A kipchak slave who became a sultan turned the Mongol war machine back an that was the turning point the turkic people's time had come again to rule an the mongols slowly disappeared in history

Messing with the Mamluks? Bad idea!
imagine if the franco mongol alliance came to be. That would be a very interesting change of history

Kutuz, pronounced kootooz. Bab El Zuweila, (the zuweila portal) pronounced with the article "el". Bab El Zuweila. Ein Jalut is pronounced EEin Jaloot. Ein Jalut is Goliath's Spring. Not "Herod's Spring". This battle forever diminished the Mongols influence and stopped them from invading North Africa. It was a sound defeat for the Mongols, their first and decisive one. It marked them psychologically and for the first time, allowed them to contemplate defeat as a possibility of war.
Acre is pronounced, acra or St John of Acre.
Its Q, not K. It's pronounced Qutuz, with the letter Qaaf in Arabic, and not the letter Kaaf. There is no direct mirrored sound in English
Kotoz(the Egyptian king) uncle and his wife father was defeated by genkis khan,He just got his revenge in Ain jalot

I'm pretty sure I saw you while I was filming, I was wondering why a guy was sitting on a chair but this explains it.
You're funny.
No, you're not
Is the video from a total war game, if so which one?
This is total war Attila
This battle was the first major defeat for the mongols
A very minor battle.
genghis khan was the only one who could hold the mongol empire together, with his death, it could only split into factional warfare. initial mongol victories were due mostly to the tactics and brilliance of genghis khan's two generals, subutai and jebe. with their deaths, no great mongol generals emerged. given time, opposing kingdoms and empires adapted to the mongol style of warfare which had become stale and stagnant in terms of tactics and weaponry.
All those poor horses.

Maps would have been good to show the movement of the armies. Not a big fan of random AI generated armies clashing.
Why did you click on a history video that uses game play from total war then?
He was looking for the missing maps.
L'animation ne connait pas le langage filmique avec des mouvements de cadre se contredisant droite / gauche dans un plan donc du non sens d'image
So crossbows and high volume arrows were horse archers weakness.
And cutting off retreat/Scythian strategy.
What would happened if the Christians had made an alliance with the Mongols? What the geopolitical implication in the world, and the boundaries will be demarcated?
There will be an alliance with Gog and Magog, and this is a disaster. The Mongols are savages and have nothing to do with civilization. They were a disaster for the world, and the world should have united against them instead of letting them occupy one country after another. Muslims and Christians should have made an alliance against them.
The Crusader states did and they were wiped out.
Cillician Arminians and Frankish soldiers fought in the mongol army, their treachery caused their kingdoms to be wiped out eventually.
Which Total War was this?
Total war Attila
Thanks Chief.@@cinematicbattles559
Where did they recruit this vast army? wich great citys did they generate the taxes needed to afford their great campaignes? how did the mongols generate the food needed? where are the old mines they used to get metals for their weapons and armor? The mongol story is questionable
The main reason, Hulagu had to leave Syria for azairbaijan, taking 40,000 mongols, was because his nephew became Muslim with his army,
Barbaric
secret was Baibars, a Crimian Turk in Mamluk(slave) army
Why are the European forces wearing plate armour? It's 1260 AD, they wouldn't have plate like that for another hundred years. Their knights should be wearing mail armour, with Great Helms.
Still hilarious that the Mongols were able to smash the actual Middle East in its entirety
Jengis Khan
Either way both wanted Europe we never talk about that.
Just 5 ears for an army?
A good history provides definitions. It's important to identify parties, such as the Mamelukes. They were warriors who had been captured from northern Slavic regions as boys. They were raised to be fighters and were brainwashed into fanaticism from childhood. They were the elite contingent of Islam and considered quite expendable. BTW; Genghis Khan; hard "G."
80% crude anime, 20% watered down info.

Damn that's very annoying

If the Islamic armies were united, they would have been able to repel the attack of the Mongol forces, who were Gog and Magog. Unfortunately, the region was divided and warring, and each country was independent, and this is what weakened the Islamic forces. Unlike Gog and Magog, they were united and under the command of one king. Despite this, the Egyptian army was able to defeat you. So who He talks about the return of part of the Mongol army. He also does not forget the division of the Muslim armies
Oddly, most of the Mongols over Muslim regions along with other Turks would become Muslims. They conquered Muslims, but Islam conquered them.
This was the Mamluk Army, and it was led by Qutuz, a Turk. A lot of the fighters were tough Turks and some Caucasians like Circassians, Georgians who were tough like the Mongols. The Mamlukes were raised to be soldiers.
Hi
Genghis is not pronounced like it's a game of Jenga
U need to read history . Before the battle of ain Jalut Mongke khan his brother and the great khan die and that lead to the civil war in Mongolia enpire between grandchildren of genghis khan which lead to the end of this empire . So he took most of his army before this battle to fight against the Berke who was the leader of Golden Horde Anthore grandchildren of Genghis khan . In history the mongol lost many battles but they gather aramys from all the empire and destroy how defat them in one battle . This battle happen with 1/5 of Hulegu army and no army send after the lost of it to defat Qutuz . Even the mangols defat qutuz in Ain Jalut they was going to be destroyed after by the civilians war that happened. Between the Mongol
Ghengis Died!! That’s the only thing that stopped the Mongol Empire. What are we even talking about
It's actually pronounced Genghis, not Jengis

Mongols always got beaten by the Mumluks. 100% success rate.
Mongols subdued the Muslims except the Mumluks. But Islam subdued and terminated the Mongols through civil wars. Mongols mostly embraced Islam.

Any Jewish army in ain jalut??
They were busy doing monkey business
This video is very misleading.
Ain Jalut was a SMALL battle between just a couple of tumens (20000) of Mongols, who were not actual mongols but mostly warriors from conjured nations.
The other side featured a trained army of about 25000 warriors that were practiced to fight together.
These numbers are fairly typical for a probing mongol raid, they have sent these probing raids numerous times to explore surrounding kingdoms and find weaknesses and explore terrain.
It was also a common strategy to retreat if a strong opposition was encountered, rather than stand and fight.
This is exactly what happened. The probing raid was met with a strong opposition and turned back.
The thing to keep in mind is that the full army of Monke Khan would have numbered up to 500K warriors and the best tumens of that would be comprised of the actual mongols.
If Monke thought it would be a good idea, the mongol army would have smashed Mamluks to bits.
The Mongols made modern Russia. Thanks a ton for this shitty job guys.
The rus also stopped them thanks to there allies Lithuania I beleive not showing. Russia then united to become what it is.
OMG. Lets be honest. Truth is another great Mongol khan from Golden horde Berke khan blamed Hulugu for distruction of Baghdad in 1258, even collation of whole Islamic world (cause he converted to Islam years ago). But supreme khan Monghe was side of his brother Hulagu. Fortuneatly for Mamluks, Great khan Monke died in 1259, Hulagu needed to back Mongolia elect next great khan at Khuraldai. But Mongols could not select supreme ruler in that Khuraldai, result was empire divided officially. Meanwhile, Berkhe secretly forged alliance with Mamluks against Ilkhanate, and preparing for great war with Hulagu. Otherwise, mamluks are not stupid enough for doing war with Mongols alone. Their were right, Berkhe reached his word and started great civil war in 1262, before Hulagu began avenge on Mamluks. This clash of two dinosaur was immerse, each side credited over 200k soldiers. Also, it is started collapse of Mongol domination reign.
I don't mind watching these types of videos, but I find it rather annoying that I need to sit through what feels like half the video watching game footage. Cut the game scenes short and focus on the narrative. The game footage should supplement the narrative, not the other way around.
Outwitted the cheenk.
Mongols never lost, except to Muslims and Japanese. The Japanese won because they were stronger, The Muslim because they were kind. And Mongols converted to to Islam partially.
Why do i think like that.
They didnt lost to muslims they lost to Egyptians they won over muslims infact brought an end to their golden age and yes after 300 years converted to islam, slowly though as it was seen bad by their own religion to convert.
Dont write AD. It is christian basphemy. Use Hijri calender

Look at Tucker’s interview with Bret Weinstein. Bret went to Central America to observe and talk with the masses of people who were on their way to our boarder with Mexico. Most are fleeing economic disaster but there was/is a very large group separate from the “normal” refugees of military-age Chinese men who are absolutely not talkative, with their aim to cross our border and do only God knows what! The Tucker interview is an absolute must!! 🇺🇸

(1:52) PRO-ceed! 🙄🙄
They were Caucasian, not asian.
The way the story of the Mongols ultimately turned out reminds me of the verse from the glorious Quran that reads ‘They plan, and Allah plans, But Allah is the best of planners’.
The were such a terrifying force and crushed Muslim army after Muslim army and it seemed Egypt would fall next, that they would take our holy lands in the Hejaz and in Jerusalem. It seemed Mongols would take over the world.
Ultimately internal politics and the conversion to Islam of Berle Khan and his war with Hulagu was timed in such a way that Hulagu never had the chance to retaliate to Ain Jalut properly otherwise we would have marched down with 100,000 men if he wanted and finished Islam as a religion completely.
But this was not meant to be and Islam wasn’t supposed to be finished, because Islam is the true religion of God. Baybars is a huge reason for this, and god placed him in the right place at the right time to defend his religion and territory. The mongols were complacent at the wrong time and place.
Today there are 1.8 Billion Muslims in the world of all ethnicites. And there are less than 4 million ethnic mongols of Mongolia who identify as such. History could have been much different, however as I said… Allah is the best of planners.
The way Islam emerged and the challenges it has seen and survived from day one when Muhammad was persecuted for preaching it in Mecca, to many Islamic empires warring with each other and crumbling, to the mongol catastrophe. It is truly phenomenal to see this religion emerged through it all, somehow someway. If it’s not protected by the creator of this world, there’s little else that explains its survival.
That is a very interesting take on history
