I know it’s not possible for everyone out there but for us we really love the ursa paired with the pocket 4K or 6k. We keep the pocket on the gimbal and have the ursa fully rigged for interviews and shoulder/easyrig work. Typically the pocket has a wider lens for exaggerated moment and the ursa has a longer lens for tighter shots. Since there isn’t a perfect camera, our solution has been to have multiple cameras on set ready to go to do what they do best.

I just got back from a shoot today using the 4.6k G1 for the first time. I found myself already thinking about buying something better and was still getting some fantastic images. Gear syndrome is real.
You can consider the BMPCC line though, I teamed up my X-T3 with a BMPCC4K for several short film shootings and turns out to be very good if you can manage the color matching in post. But anyway, BlackMagic cameras are meant to be doing the post in Resolve, if it's not embeded in your workflow, you only get maybe 60% of the potentials of the BM cameras, X-T4 would be the perfect choice, it's the best mirrorless of Fuji by far.

Hello from Australia, Honestly one of the best looking videos you have put out. Even with the gh5 and the Alexa lut (with I have had as well) it never looked this nice. Look forward to more content. It's so easy getting obsessed with gear in this industry, it's good to be forced sometimes to not be able to buy the newest camera because it helps you make the best of the one you have. Wish I concentrated more on learning lighting and investing in that earlier in my career than being solely focused on the camera.
Man I really appreciate this. It's a little nerve racking because I know there's some very talented people watching haha. And yeah we tend to get obsessed with the dang camera bodies and forget about lenses & lights which are arguably much more important.
most cameras nowadays have good 'enough' image quality. i think we should be getting the camera that makes the process more enjoyable and makes us shoot more...

Cool video, looking to pick one up... Im a wildlife filmmaker and in the ballpark price point there is no competitor that shoots at those framerates at 4.6k or 1080 for those slow-mo shots of awesome wildlife behavior. Definitely the best option for wildlife filmmaking under 10k

The comment about BRAW in PrP was silly. RAW codecs are not designed for editing but for finishing. Sorry you had that issue. That’s why you transcode to a edit friendly codec, roundtrip to Resolve to finish using BRAW, then export.

I’m still looking the dream camera as well. Blackmagic merged with Z Cam format, but agnostic on any editing system you want like Red... made for broadcast or cinema with any NLE like JVC pioneered with ENG back when everyone had their own 1080p codecs that all required transcoding. (You think that is old? I used to have to carry around a 15 pound camera and a 15 pound VTR and another 5 or 10 pounds of batteries.... yeah.. I’m old). The Z cams look interesting, but they have a ton of flaws that take them out of the running for me from the start. But maybe they will get their act together.. or maybe BM will make embrace the cube form and revisit their Micro Cinema camera and reinvent it in MFT, Super 35 and full frame.. kinda like Z did, but with BRAW and why not throw in ProRes RAW (even as a paid upgrade). Oh and 15 stops of dynamic range and for god’s sake.. a fast rolling shutter (what is the point of a hand held pocket camera when it minor movement the hills look like mountains of warm Jello carried by a drunken sailor??????). But yeah.. I’m recording a lot this year with my iPhone 11 and a Zihyun gimbal with Filmic Pro. I guess I should do something with my footage.. hahaha

Dang man. I literally just watched your Ultimate G2 rig video and then BOOM! I saw this one. LOL! But in reality, there is no such thing as the perfect camera, but I get it...it has to be THE RIGHT "perfect" camera for YOU and you have to be overall happy to shoot with it each time. These companies make sure of that when they create them so we can always be looking every year. But that XT4 is a GREAT CAMERA. I've owned the X-T3 for a while and its an awesome camera! Dude I'm sorry! I think I bummed a few people out when they saw I was selling, but like you said it just wasn't the best camera for my workflow. I'm stoked to get the XT4 and put it in some professional environements, hopefully show people you don't need a big cinema camera to get pro images

For video I think yes for sure. IBIS, flip screen, bigger battery, heck yes
The downside is many (maybe almost all) agencies ask what gear you shoot with. I have got jobs by having an URSA and an FX7, I know it sucks but showing up on set with a crew with a mirrorless is not a great look. Sad but true
Hopefully we see a shift in that mentality as tech continues to evolve

Have you considered ZCam? It’s a small design so you can put it on a gimbal, or rig it out for handheld.

Be careful with Zcam, I just returned mine due to having a handful of reliability issues. It looked like the perfect camera for me on paper but didn't hold up. I posted about it in my latest video if you are curious to hear my experience.

Anybody that is serious about buying any camera please do not BASE YOUR decision on youtube reviews! it will save you a ton. because these guys have the means to buy and sell cameras as they wish and make videos about them. Not everyone can afford to do that.

The perfect camera hunt? How about since 2011?
I've been thinking about transitioning to a Xt4 from a Nikon Z6 but I'm exhausted at the though of having to buy lenses for an entirely new camera system. What lenses would you recommend for an XT4?
wooof yeah that's a lot of work! I've had really good luck on ebay, things go relatively quickly, especially if you take nice photos of everything. Man I'm honestly not a big fan of fuji lenses, I'm rocking my classic trio (tokina 11-16, sigma 18-35, sigma 50-100) with the fringer adapter so I get full autofocus function. I think SLR magic has some nice little cine primes as well for X mount. XT4's about to be so rad dude, and cheap!
All kinds of adapters and boosters for fuji x out there. Everything from PL to Leica to Canon and Nikon. Fotodiox makes most of them

RED is amazing... but, they’re are some low key cameras you could buy two rigs for the price of one RED brain. Hear me out my dude... Kinefinity MAVO LF on sale $8000 (full frame, 6k and basically a baby red or ARRI.) Z Cam E2-F6 $4995 (full frame, 6k and as small as a mirrorless camera.) Aaaand obviously the Canon c300mkiii... I’m just saying; cheaper options, good gear, great image and save $$$$. Just my opinion! 😬
For sure dude, but that young Red Komodo is rumored to cost 5K-6K and the dudes I work with already use Red. Our main issue with the G2 was mixing projects with Red Raw and Braw. Didn't mix well and I would be nervous to go down that road again.

I had been looking at the URSA G2 after having bad luck with a Z Cam E2 which I have since returned. Then yesterday just saw the Canon C300mkiii specs. Wow, that camera looks good. Quite a bit more than the URSA G2 but a nicer form factor, autofocus, and great resolution/framerates. Whatever you decide on, good luck. That elusive perfect camera search seems to be neverending! Thanks for the honest info!
Dude yeah the new C300iii looks really solid. I've had a bunch of people recommend the Z cams to me. I don't think i'll buy one but I'm probably going to rent one to see what all the hype's about
@@ZachMayfield Check out my latest video if you want to hear some of my not so great experiences with the Zcam. Came from a GH5 so I'm sure you have some similar expectations of your camera. The Zcam is a bit of a too good to be true situation I think.
You know... you can keep the Ursa and made additional income through renting it out and buy new camera for the main use, for ex new Kinefinity or used Arri :)

Tried that mate. Had the kit on share grid in Nashville and Atlanta during the entirety of my ownership. Had 1 rental and it was from a friend haha.

@@ZachMayfield tamron has really nice stabilized primes for ef mount that support AF, c300ii is a crop sensor production camera and R5 will be full frame 8k raw video recording in a DSLR body with IBIS and new RF mount. As far as manual lenses go samyang vdslr prime lenses are really fast and Sharp manual lenses

Yeah dude the pocket 4k is super sick. BM's image quality is bonkers. Currently I'm using the polar pro 6-9 stop variable and I love it!

I've considered it, just not a fan of the physical form factor + battery options. you can definitely rig it out but for me it defeats the purpose of buying a smaller cam. Idk maybe I'm dumb, what do you think about it?
it balances pretty easy on a gimbal and you can take it wherever you want. super small. the lcd on the black magic is huge as well.
i hate rigs personally i have like 10 of the lpe6 batterys . Ya its a bitch to change batters every 30 minutes but holding a heavy rig is a bitch as well. Pick your poison

Yeahhh man, just wasn't playing well with the professional projects I do with two other guys. Mixing Red and BM footage was the biggest struggle. Gonna miss it for sure but it's all good!
Man!! Once you’ve experienced 15stops of dynamic range it’s hard to go back man. I own the Fuji xt3 which outputs great color but the DR is a bit lacking. The C300mark 3 actually looks legit with its 16+ stops. Anyway, I hope the x4 blows your mind with how well it performs. Cheers and keep safe.
Dude I know, there's something that just feels a bit more "magical".. hard to explain! I think I'll still end up with a cinema camera later this year but I'm very excited about the XT4
I have an XT3 as well. combined with a Ninja V recording prores, I've been able to bring highlights back from the dead. Great DR this way. shooting on the sd card no matter the quality or codec, highlights always clip hard
