Great Review Josh - I've been shooting Country Calendar and other docs using the URSA G2 as my main camera and the Pocket 6K as my gimbal camera and it's been solid for 4 years. The URSA is just starting to give me trouble, so its been sent to Aussie to see whats up. I just found your review because I was googling for a G2 Camera body to hire. I'll stay with the BM set up as the pictures are awesome. Interesting to see your lens choice will look for other posts - nice work.
Hi Joshua! Nice videos! Keep making videos here on RUclips! Wish you put more brolls from your Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2&. It's a pleasure to watch clips from that camera!
I worked with the G1 and now I own a G2. I really love this camera and look forward to years of shooting. I've become such a fan of Black Magic Design!
Hi there new sub here! Using a BMPCC 4K an DVR17. Looking forward to learning from your channel! Been looking at a lot of Ursa G2 videos and really love the product that comes out of it and now with the 12K camera price slashed..........🤐
Do you have the link to the wig kit that you use on your black magic design mini pro G2 camera what rig was that do you have the link for the black magic design rig set?
I'd recommend the 4.6k over the 12K solely for the smaller file sizes. 12k is sooo much data that is hardly ever needed. Not to mention there aren't many affordable lenses that can actually resolve 12K worth of sharpness. I do like the higher frame rates that the 12k offers. Disclaimer though - I've never shot with the 12k myself :-)
@@JoshuaKirkNZ Everytime people ask for 12K or above sensors im like lenses literally cant resolve it so whats the point. I think that 6k and 8k are the top end that we will ever need for video.
Thanks Joshua. Great video. Your rig is almost verbatim to what I've recently spec'd out, including the DZO Zooms and Ninja V. It looks like the SSD is disco'd for the 4.6K G2... only the 12K is now supported... and I prefer 4.6K over 12K for bigger photosites on a Super35. I'm used to to recording to a SamsungT5 with my BMPCC4K, but it looks like the USB-C port is under the flip out screen on the G2. I hate the idea of leaving the flip out open. Seems like recording to CFAST, SSD (for BRAW) and to Ninja V (other) will have to do. If you have other suggestions re: SSD storage, that would be great. Also looking at this config for virtual production/mixed reality. Any experience with the G2's genlock? Subscribed. Thank you again!
Hey thanks for the comment! The SSD unit is a nice option, and I like the new design with the 12K because it uses USBC rather than 2x of the SDI ports. I think if I was to do more live production work on the 4.6K I would definitely want the back 12G SDI ports to be free, so the SSD unit would have to go. In terms of genlock I have only ever used a camlink from the sound op which syncs my camera to their timecode. It works great, but that is with the timecode generated on their end, not from the URSA.
looks cool, although I don't really understand anything. Maybe there is some kind of guide to figure it out on your own in cameras and learn how to shoot. Is it possible without studying in special schools?
There are many places to learn about filmmaking! I would try and learn as much as possible from RUclips first and then find out what you really want to do. Then from there you could take online masterclasses, or volunteer at a production company. :-)
@@JoshuaKirkNZ Hah, might be worth it to specify that. I very much noticed the Kiwi accent, but seeing as the majority of L1 English speakers on earth are American, the word "dollar" is presumed to be the American one unless otherwise specified (online and in international contexts). That's what some of us are incredibly confused about the price (I came to the comments to see if you'd explained it) - for us, the Ursa 12k is $6,000; and the Ursa 4.6k, even cheaper. So when you said it was $25,000, it very much elicits a terrified "OH GOD WHY DID HE PAY THAT MUCH MONEY" response.
A great presentation from a working professional
Thank you 🙏🏼

Awesome! Did you get any word back about the camera - what was the fault? We are about 4 years into the camera as well.
We love our Ursa mini
me too!
Good review. Easy flow. Subscribed.
Hey ! I own this combo Ursa G2 + Pictor Zooms too ! Such a versatile piece of kit. Love it :)
It's a beaut!
subbed. love the straight talk and you're so easy on the eye too!
🙌
Thank you very much my brother. GRATIDÃO.
You're welcome, thanks for the comment.

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Great thoughts on the Broll, I’ll be sure to add more next time :-)
@@JoshuaKirkNZ Cant wait to watch your new videos!
Great content bro!
Thank you sir!
Hey Josh. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to get a very similar setup. Curious to know what case/bag you use to transport the camera.
We use the Pelican 1650 case for this camera. It still has to be broken apart to all fit, but great as a solid travel case.
Wetlands are you using on your camera is it a zoom lens one suggestion try dzo lens they have great Cinema lens and affordable too
Hey Joe, this is the DZO Film 20-55 lens. We love it!

It's a great camera and great company. Really keen to see what the company becomes going forward because they are taking over the industry!
Hey, what’s the main difference between the g1 and g2? Also is there any difference in noise and low light situation

Hey thanks heaps for the sub! Yeah it's an awesome camera for the price mate! Great job on your channel too - Looking good 👍
Hi Joshua, Thank you for this!
Quick question whats the total weight of the setup?
Thank you
It would be close to 9kg or 20 pounds fully rigged. With FIZ motors and additional battery / accessories it would be more around 11kg or 25 pounds.
@@JoshuaKirkNZ Thank you so much, so the best easyrig version for this is the vario 5 i think. Thank you again it helps a lot

Hey Joe - thanks for the comment - What do you mean wig kit?
Would love to know what make is that focus unit
Tilta
Building out a similar rig here, how did you mount the Vmount battery plate to the SSD Bay?
It is the same Vmount plate that normally attaches to the camera, so the SSD unit just sits between the body and the battery plate.
Would you recommend this over the 12K? Due to more dynamic range

What type of ssd card reader is that? I'm looking for something like this for my camera
Hey Tom - Sorry this has taken 5months - Wow where has the time gone! This is the official BlackMagic Design SSD recorder for the URSA 4.6K
I'm from Brasil (Santos-SP).
I'm based in Nelson, NZ

@2;46, so that internal ND is just as good as a 500$ ND filter from TIFFEN..., come on then!
is funny how they named it Mini LOL 🤣
Haha yeah no so mini!
Just look at the original URSA! It's a beast.
but you can't use it on a gimbal...
Yeah - Not on the smaller ones :-)
$25,000??
Yeah I’m based in New Zealand so that’s NZD. The G2 body by itself before rigging is 10k here. Where are you based?
@@JoshuaKirkNZ CALIFORNIA!

Red is overpriced and overrated. I think a 4.6K will be added to my camera of choice list.
Yes URSA G2’s are still great value for money!
