Glad you found it useful. If you like the pocket 4k… you’ll marry the URSA. It’s more of the same, but leaps and bounds better on every level. You’ll just need a gym membership too.
I saw a recent video and went down the list of your past videos and have been viewing them since yesterday and have learned and seen the beauty of our planet through your lens and felt like I was there as well. I have seen many videos of different photographers since I am a beginner and I love all kinds of photography weather is landscape, portraits, or macro. Your work and videos has been the best I have seen. I can only dream of one day being a professional photographer as you and many other are. I have been also considering getting the Olympus E-M1 markiii since I have a Canon 90D, have used Nikon as well, but don’t want to limit myself to just one brand. I think the more you learn and use other camera bodies and lenses according to your work or needs you can grow, perfect your skills and achieve your goals. I don’t see photography as a hobby, but as a world waiting to be explored and lived. Photography is the best way to see the beauty of the world through the eyes, where time stops and freezes for a second, and is captured by the lens of a camera. Weather is a picture or video is just amazing!! Because like you said it tells a story. What I have learned is that the camera does not make the photographer professional, but the photographer makes the camera a professional tool in his/her hands. Your videos have inspired me and opened my mind to so many ideas of what I want to experience in my journey into the world of photography. Thank you so much. Interesting rig. I got quite a bit from this video. Thank you. I'm primarily a gimbal operator and find that they are generally used in the wrong way. A quick tip is to have a seperate gimbal only camera (bmpcc4k/6k) set up to film along with the main camera. I do a lot of sports and will switch to the gimbal on the fly for shots that justify it. Rigging and re-rigging on location is never practical and is why so many dps I meet have misconceptions about them.
Thanks for your input. I actually agree. However, the main usage of my gimbal is to shoot super smooth, long lens shots in high frame rates i.e. wildlife in Africa. I’m yet to find a capable smaller camera that can perform like I need it to to go on a gimbal. Yes, once I have the funds / budget, I’m considering the 4k/6K (or next gen 🤷🏼♂️) smaller BMC for gimbal use to avoid derigging - rigging the URSA too often.
@@chriseyrewalker Long lens shots with an Ursa are indeed a tall order without lots of heavy equipment. I look forward to seeing what solution you come up with in the future. The bmpcc 4k is an interesting option if you get a chance to try one. The compact size and m43 lenses allow for ultra long lens shots in a very small package that even fits on a Ronin s2 with full focuse control using the lens' internal motor. It was interesting, but listening to the first minute I thought I would learn how you relate your rig to stories that you have told with it, starting from the story. That sounded to me like a fascinating video. But man you are one heck of a hardware freak! The amount of desktop research that went into this must have been huge, and that was part of the fun I guess? Having said that, I found it informative and I have enjoyed listening to how you take decisions to create usability, thanks!

Great video, appreciate you sharing your background and how you got to the perfect rig for you. I love watching these kinds of videos because a camera rig is such a specific tool and each person has its own preferences and uses. One thing I might suggest is a smallrig monitor mount for your monitor on the top handle, it may be a more flexible tool than an arm - I have a few monitor mounts and really enjoy it, I even use it on my side plate with a teradek (dont think it would fit for you since you use the microphone over there but I like to rig this way because its slimmer than an arm). Also love my bright tangerine titan arm for my monitor for when I need something longer / more adaptable and you can even change the monitor position without changing the friction on the arm. Cheers!

Me too, it's a great camera at a bargain price, very adaptable. Shame to lose the versatility of B4 lenses but I'm too thinking of that DZO kit for full Super 35 6K - surprised to learn about the wide focus throw because I was hoping properly shimmed and therefore parfocal, zooming in to set focus and then back out would work. I admire Chris's rig but I don't want servo motors of that complexity. I also wouldn't like to lose the VF either, as I like on the shoulder for hand held.
What a beast! Just started considering getting a UMP 12K at some stage this year (currently shooting on a P4K). I won't be pimping it this much (10kg!!!) but loved the eye candy of yours °¬)
Really good video and nice rig. I think I am gonna ditch the attachable lens tiffen filters I use for the tilta mattebox filters the more I see them - just FYI - super35 sensor does not change the focal length of your shot, it just gives you a tighter field of view, So a 400 mm shot is still a 400 mm, you just see less around the edges.
Sold my G2 for 2 P6K Pro and I love them! You might consider getting a pro for your next adventure,you get 90% Ursa image with everything you need build in and it's tiny ( compare to the Ursa). Never regret it

As the broadcast has - to my knowledge - the same sensor as the p6k P.s. als je Nederlands spreekt, dankjewel :-) ik ga je hele rig kopiëren! Komt heel erg in de buurt wat ik al in gedachten had, maar om hem zo uitgebouwd te zien ben ik overtuigd. @@BodhiGeraci indeed. I’d got the broadcast G2 for broadcasting work. Nothing else. And the ‘regular’ G2 for the rest. Just as intended. I tend to shoot handheld. But also have a ReadyRig which I sometimes use as EasyRig replacement. But if you build it like I do, then it’s great for ‘hip shooting’. For longer shoots I’d build it as a shoulder rig. That camera is ideal to be used that way with the button layout.
As someone with ocd, this is by far the cleanest/neatest and most well thought out rig I've seen. How do you get the start/stop on the nucleus to work with the g2? How many of those fxlion batteries do you normally use up in a day? How many hours roughly does each one/pair last?
Haha thanks! Start-stop with the Nucleus works with a cable. I’ll add a link in the video description to it now. Once it's hooked up via one controller you can use either one to start-stop recording. Also the remote will then start-stop recording on the URSA. Battery life really depends on how the rig is being used. I currently have 5 of the batteries. Never ran out. I’d say about 4 gets you through a normal day. 6 to be safe. 8 to never worry about battery life. Ever.

Would be great to have your insights on this: • I see you're using a third Nucleus M-motor: what would you advise to have first? Diafragma and focus? Are you then using the third one for zoom? and how do you control it? (as you only have two handles?) • Just ordered the DZO-lenses: how are you using mounts on the glass and camera? Both EF? And why? Ever considered doing everything in PL? I've just got my hands on the Ursa 12K recently and really dig your setup using a minitor and Nucleus FIZ system. Have you changed your rig substantially since this video? Also, how much power does the FIZ system take - in other words, would it be impractical with a single mini v-lock to keep the weight down?
Hey! Small world indeed. Honestly, the setup hasn’t changed one bit. Except I added a tennis racket grip band to the handle to make it less cold to handle. I don’t really think the FIZ system is that power hungry. But the URSA and monitor sure are. So I just rock the 2 90Wh batteries. Also helps with the balance of the longer DZO Pictors I find.
@@chriseyrewalker Thanks man! I really dig the setup with the 2x Tilta handles for focus/zoom, that's the best ergonomic solution I've seen so far for a single operator using Cine zooms, good plan :) That's good to know on the FIZ power requirements but makes sense on the monitor and balance!
Really great watch - thanks Chris. I love my SmallRig accessories as well, although it's been harder to get some of their parts since the pandemic broke (I had to go for the more expensive Wooden Camera side plate in the end). The biggest challenge for me and my G2 setup is that I'm a solo operator and most of my work is almost ENG, with very little prep time and no control over the location. I'm learning slowly how to get going quickly whilst still composing each shot well - but the biggest trap I fall into is thinking "ah, I'm shooting in RAW, I'll sort it out afterwards" (as I also do all the editing etc). Do you think you'll ever look at getting the BM viewfinder or does that not fit in with your workflow? I really like its quality. Thanks again.
Thanks Steve! Yes Smallrig has been tough to get, which is why I wanted to wait before I talk about my directors / client remote monitor setup as I'm still missing parts. I think the solo operator problem is a thing for many of us. I have tried to take my work to a level where I can afford an AC for my jobs. I'd rather take a guy along with me and charger more to ensure higher quality than rock up alone with my G2 rig. Dealing with the lack of time is everyones problem too these days... even on Hollywood sets I think you'll find that there's not enough time for anything. ever. And 'fix it in post' attitude is never a good starting point... we've all been there haha. I have the BM viewfinder. It's great. I love it. But I prefer shooting from the hip and adding the viewfinder to the rig makes the camera even bigger and heavier for a feature I don't use often enough to justify the weight for. It is a joy to use when I do get to use it though...
Hi legendary build and explanations. Why 4.6k rather than the 12k mini Ursa. One extra dynamic range . and what? Better in Low light? Even if you master in 4k shooting in at least 8k would yield superior results no?
I got this camera before the 12k was out and couldn’t justify the cost of switching for the only small jump in improvements. Resolution isn’t everything. And the 12k doesn’t offer thaaaaat much more over the 4.6K G2. I’ll wait out the G3 instead.
Different tools for different jobs. I still use the Olympus cameras for A LOT of my work. Can't beat the portability, stabilisation and light weight of the OMD system. Not sure I'd drag the URSA up a 7000m mountain through -35ºC on a 3-week expedition as I did with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II.
My pleasure. As for mics, it really depends on what you’re filming. A shotgun mic, lavaliere mics, etc…. I adapt it to my project. But in general I’m very happy with my Diety and the Røde NTG2+
Thanks. I usually take it as carry-on all rigged out. That way I don’t have to check it in and it doesn’t count as weight in the carry-on luggage. For smaller trips I habe a big peli case that it fits in without needing to be de-rigged.
Great rig build Chris! This is the best that I've seen of the Ursa Mini Pro! I recently picked up a G1 and have most of the tools to build a similar rig, however, I can't find the side holder that you used to mount your Deity mic. Do you have any links for that handle?

Thanks man. Yes the Pictors are pretty decent weight wise. But their focus throw us so long, I’d never manually focus them just by hand. You definitely need a motor on the lens. At least for focussing.
Tough to compare. I still make a living with this camera (and pretty mich the same rig). If you want auto focus, go with Sony. If you want dynamic range, image quality, frame rates, easy of use… go with this. It all depends on the purpose. I suppose I’m more of a ‘classic’ cinematographer. I don’t like AF and prefer to be in total control of every aspect of my image, so I like the URSA for all that. And BRAW. Oh BRAW is just Magic. Having a full pipeline from camera, codec to editing software all by one company is so so nice. Devinci Resolve is so incredibly good and easy to work with.

The 18-35mm is too clean. It’s a photo lens. Has no character. The 20-55mm is also fairly clean. But a little softer and more organic looking. I also lobe the manual aperture and long focus throw. Definitely a more ‘cinematic’ lens.
Excellent video. Thanks! On 9:26, I'd like to have your insights about powering more than 1 device from the same v-mount battery as I've already fried my monitor and hdmi input doing this, while using a v-mount plate, on my bmpcc6k. Don't you think it's risky?
If you use a good power distribution plate, like the one I have on mine, there’s very little chance of ruining your devices. But always be aware of SDI connections and in what order your connect / disconnect those. I’d never power directly off of the d-top on a battery itself.
I cannot find any information about which lenses would provide autofocus as that is a key difference to the SOny FX6 which is the same price range and has perfect autofocus.
@@chriseyrewalker Thanks. I don't rely on AF. I use five 6kPros in the studio and they are excellent but only one-shot AF. I use a Sony for AF but difficult to grade the same. Some say that the Ursa 12k Pro has a better AF. One vendor would make matching grading simpler.

I just saw the big price drop on the G2. Unbeatable price!! Back when I got this kit, I believe the smallrig should kit didn’t exist yet. Nowadays, I’d go with the smallrig one, as the top handle is much better.

Hey Morgon, Not sure if the exact dimensions. I use a 1607 Peli case. That fits it perfectly without needing to de-rig it. Only the batteries have to come off to fit it, but I’d do that anyway. Vertically you have to push the monitor down as flat as it goes. It’s a tight squeeze with the grip, but that also kind of stops the rig from moving around in the box when travelling. There’s still some spare room for a small case with batteries, chargers etc. even the second Pictor if you wanted. But I usually take that in it’s own case. The 1607 also has wheels. So it’s really the best thing you can get for this rig.

I'm really curious to analyze how this camera is handling the debayering and encoding process internally (VS an Alexa and a Kinefinity). Thanks! How BMPCC4K holds up against g2(in terms of image quality)?worth to spend that extra money for g2?or p4k us just fine! P.S: I need a cinema camera for shortfilm and documentary. I have a7iii but it's a 8 bit camera and it fall apart in color grading.
Coming from the same manufacturer (Blackmagic), the image can be easily matched between the cameras as the colour science is close / very similar. You basically pay for the larger sensor, better dynamic range and more importantly the all-in-one package that the URSA is. It's made to handle well right out of the box. A p4k i.e. you have to usually rig out and I can't but feel like those rigs are cumbersome, annoying ways to beef up a camera that's not meant to be. In the end you have the same size rig as a cinema camera, but with the most important part lacking in capabilities: the brains. I'd recommend the G2 (or G1) for form factor and image quality (and frame rates if you're into slowmo) over the Pockets. But if you need mobility, then build out a Pocket. But don't be surprised when your rig ends up on the 'terrible Blackmagic rigs' Facebook Group... Either shoot BRAW. So you can't go wrong if you want more colour depth.
Why did you initially buy CHEAP Chinese stuff? Why didn’t you firstly buy EXPENSIVE Chinese stuff? Don’t intend to buy something in high quality but at lost cost.
Thanks. Honestly, I’m no fan of the Komodo. The noise on the sensor cropped-in slowmo shots is horrible and the reason I chose the G2 for its great frame rates without crop in on the sensor. Also, the entire BRAW workflow integrated with Resolve is a dream to work with. Honestly, they are both good cameras. All cameras are good these days. The Komodo is a smaller package to begin with. The G2 has more should rig-ergonomics with the camera brain already offering great handling out of the box with its button layout. The Komodo is probably the better gimbal camera as it’s small and cube shaped. Always consider the accessories and prices of all the extras you need to build the camera out to your purposes.
They are. But they are also by far the best and most reliable. I’ve gone through many cheaper ones… but my SmallHd still looks and works like on day 1.
@chriseyrewalker portkeys is pretty solid or ninja atomos or Blackmagic 12g 7inch Video Assist all amazing quality around $300-600 range. Smallhd used to be an affordable company then something happened and now there charging insane prices for the same monitors 🤷♂️ the quality didn't get any better they're just charging 2-3k for 7 inch monitors 😅
Despite the pro level camera and rigs you have a cheap ass tripod head. So many people neglect the tripod when it should be something that can outlast your cameras many times over and make or break how the videos is captured.

Really good video and nice rig. I think I am gonna ditch the attachable lens tiffen filters I use for the tilta mattebox filters the more I see them - just FYI - super35 sensor does not change the focal length of your shot, it just gives you a tighter field of view, So a 400 mm shot is still a 400 mm, you just see less around the edges.
+1 for small HD (great investment), I also think gimbal shots are over used.

Sold my G2 for 2 P6K Pro and I love them! You might consider getting a pro for your next adventure,you get 90% Ursa image with everything you need build in and it's tiny ( compare to the Ursa).

I actually have the 6K. And the image is nice. But can’t compete with the dynamic range of the G2. The 6K always leaves me wanting for my G2.

@@BodhiGeraci indeed. I’d got the broadcast G2 for broadcasting work. Nothing else.
And the ‘regular’ G2 for the rest. Just as intended.
I tend to shoot handheld. But also have a ReadyRig which I sometimes use as EasyRig replacement.
But if you build it like I do, then it’s great for ‘hip shooting’. For longer shoots I’d build it as a shoulder rig. That camera is ideal to be used that way with the button layout.
As someone with ocd, this is by far the cleanest/neatest and most well thought out rig I've seen. How do you get the start/stop on the nucleus to work with the g2? How many of those fxlion batteries do you normally use up in a day? How many hours roughly does each one/pair last?

Start-stop with the Nucleus works with a cable. I’ll add a link in the video description to it now. Once it's hooked up via one controller you can use either one to start-stop recording. Also the remote will then start-stop recording on the URSA.
Battery life really depends on how the rig is being used. I currently have 5 of the batteries. Never ran out. I’d say about 4 gets you through a normal day. 6 to be safe. 8 to never worry about battery life. Ever.
@@chriseyrewalker Thanks! Which one is it for the URSA? There isn't an option for the URSA and the only other one is for the pocket4k/6k but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work. I think I tried buying one from amazon or something and it didn't work so I just gave up.

Hi Chris! Fellow-Antwerp-resident here ;) As I'm assembling an identical set as yours, just loving the G2-vibe (coming from a G1 4,6k), I have a few questions, just before we roll into 2022. Would be great to have your insights on this:
• I see you're using a third Nucleus M-motor: what would you advise to have first? Diafragma and focus?
Are you then using the third one for zoom? and how do you control it? (as you only have two handles?)
• Just ordered the DZO-lenses: how are you using mounts on the glass and camera? Both EF? And why? Ever considered doing everything in PL? (as both camera and lenses have this option)
• I read you have a (peli?)case to put the full rigged out camera in: any ideas on which case it is exactly?

I've just got my hands on the Ursa 12K recently and really dig your setup using a minitor and Nucleus FIZ system. Have you changed your rig substantially since this video? Also, how much power does the FIZ system take - in other words, would it be impractical with a single mini v-lock to keep the weight down?

Honestly, the setup hasn’t changed one bit. Except I added a tennis racket grip band to the handle to make it less cold to handle.
I don’t really think the FIZ system is that power hungry. But the URSA and monitor sure are. So I just rock the 2 90Wh batteries. Also helps with the balance of the longer DZO Pictors I find.
@@chriseyrewalker Thanks man! I really dig the setup with the 2x Tilta handles for focus/zoom, that's the best ergonomic solution I've seen so far for a single operator using Cine zooms, good plan :) That's good to know on the FIZ power requirements but makes sense on the monitor and balance!

Really great watch - thanks Chris. I love my SmallRig accessories as well, although it's been harder to get some of their parts since the pandemic broke (I had to go for the more expensive Wooden Camera side plate in the end). The biggest challenge for me and my G2 setup is that I'm a solo operator and most of my work is almost ENG, with very little prep time and no control over the location. I'm learning slowly how to get going quickly whilst still composing each shot well - but the biggest trap I fall into is thinking "ah, I'm shooting in RAW, I'll sort it out afterwards" (as I also do all the editing etc). Do you think you'll ever look at getting the BM viewfinder or does that not fit in with your workflow? I really like its quality. Thanks again.
Thanks Steve! Yes Smallrig has been tough to get, which is why I wanted to wait before I talk about my directors / client remote monitor setup as I'm still missing parts.
I think the solo operator problem is a thing for many of us. I have tried to take my work to a level where I can afford an AC for my jobs. I'd rather take a guy along with me and charger more to ensure higher quality than rock up alone with my G2 rig. Dealing with the lack of time is everyones problem too these days... even on Hollywood sets I think you'll find that there's not enough time for anything. ever.
And 'fix it in post' attitude is never a good starting point... we've all been there haha.
I have the BM viewfinder. It's great. I love it. But I prefer shooting from the hip and adding the viewfinder to the rig makes the camera even bigger and heavier for a feature I don't use often enough to justify the weight for. It is a joy to use when I do get to use it though...
Hi legendary build and explanations. Why 4.6k rather than the 12k mini Ursa. One extra dynamic range . and what? Better in Low light? Even if you master in 4k shooting in at least 8k would yield superior results no?
I got this camera before the 12k was out and couldn’t justify the cost of switching for the only small jump in improvements. Resolution isn’t everything. And the 12k doesn’t offer thaaaaat much more over the 4.6K G2.
I’ll wait out the G3 instead.

Different tools for different jobs. I still use the Olympus cameras for A LOT of my work. Can't beat the portability, stabilisation and light weight of the OMD system. Not sure I'd drag the URSA up a 7000m mountain through -35ºC on a 3-week expedition as I did with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II.
And yes. The Pictors are parfocal 😉

As for mics, it really depends on what you’re filming. A shotgun mic, lavaliere mics, etc…. I adapt it to my project.
But in general I’m very happy with my Diety and the Røde NTG2+

Thanks. I usually take it as carry-on all rigged out. That way I don’t have to check it in and it doesn’t count as weight in the carry-on luggage.
For smaller trips I habe a big peli case that it fits in without needing to be de-rigged.
Great rig build Chris! This is the best that I've seen of the Ursa Mini Pro! I recently picked up a G1 and have most of the tools to build a similar rig, however, I can't find the side holder that you used to mount your Deity mic. Do you have any links for that handle?

That handle is the mic holder that comes with the Blackmagic Top handle and Shoulder kit.

Yes the Pictors are pretty decent weight wise. But their focus throw us so long, I’d never manually focus them just by hand.
You definitely need a motor on the lens. At least for focussing.

2 years later, would you recommend this camera over say, a Sony FX6?
Tough to compare. I still make a living with this camera (and pretty mich the same rig).
If you want auto focus, go with Sony.
If you want dynamic range, image quality, frame rates, easy of use… go with this.
It all depends on the purpose. I suppose I’m more of a ‘classic’ cinematographer. I don’t like AF and prefer to be in total control of every aspect of my image, so I like the URSA for all that.
And BRAW. Oh BRAW is just Magic. Having a full pipeline from camera, codec to editing software all by one company is so so nice. Devinci Resolve is so incredibly good and easy to work with.
Is that an E-Image Tripod? GH10 maybe? How do you like it?
Yeah it’s good. I like it. But with the full rig pretty much on its limits.

The 18-35mm is too clean. It’s a photo lens. Has no character.
The 20-55mm is also fairly clean. But a little softer and more organic looking. I also lobe the manual aperture and long focus throw. Definitely a more ‘cinematic’ lens.

Excellent video. Thanks! On 9:26, I'd like to have your insights about powering more than 1 device from the same v-mount battery as I've already fried my monitor and hdmi input doing this, while using a v-mount plate, on my bmpcc6k. Don't you think it's risky?
If you use a good power distribution plate, like the one I have on mine, there’s very little chance of ruining your devices.
But always be aware of SDI connections and in what order your connect / disconnect those.
I’d never power directly off of the d-top on a battery itself.

Are you recording RAW to your CF cards? What cards?
Yes. I record to Sony CF cards. They even outperform the Angelbird CF cards.
I cannot find any information about which lenses would provide autofocus as that is a key difference to the SOny FX6 which is the same price range and has perfect autofocus.
The auto focus on this camera is virtually non-existent. If you rely on AF, I wouldn’t recommend the Blackmagic series cameras.
@@chriseyrewalker Thanks. I don't rely on AF. I use five 6kPros in the studio and they are excellent but only one-shot AF. I use a Sony for AF but difficult to grade the same. Some say that the Ursa 12k Pro has a better AF. One vendor would make matching grading simpler.

Back when I got this kit, I believe the smallrig should kit didn’t exist yet.
Nowadays, I’d go with the smallrig one, as the top handle is much better.

Not sure if the exact dimensions.
I use a 1607 Peli case. That fits it perfectly without needing to de-rig it. Only the batteries have to come off to fit it, but I’d do that anyway. Vertically you have to push the monitor down as flat as it goes. It’s a tight squeeze with the grip, but that also kind of stops the rig from moving around in the box when travelling. There’s still some spare room for a small case with batteries, chargers etc. even the second Pictor if you wanted. But I usually take that in it’s own case.
The 1607 also has wheels. So it’s really the best thing you can get for this rig.
How are you using the ready rig without a gimbal? I own one but I could never figure out how to rig it just to the camera.
Just a rope down from the arms to the handle of the Ursa. Works well.

I haven’t added it up. It’s best not to know the exact price. This rig was 2 years in the making 😅

How BMPCC4K holds up against g2(in terms of image quality)?worth to spend that extra money for g2?or p4k us just fine!
P.S: I need a cinema camera for shortfilm and documentary. I have a7iii but it's a 8 bit camera and it fall apart in color grading.
Coming from the same manufacturer (Blackmagic), the image can be easily matched between the cameras as the colour science is close / very similar. You basically pay for the larger sensor, better dynamic range and more importantly the all-in-one package that the URSA is. It's made to handle well right out of the box. A p4k i.e. you have to usually rig out and I can't but feel like those rigs are cumbersome, annoying ways to beef up a camera that's not meant to be. In the end you have the same size rig as a cinema camera, but with the most important part lacking in capabilities: the brains.
I'd recommend the G2 (or G1) for form factor and image quality (and frame rates if you're into slowmo) over the Pockets. But if you need mobility, then build out a Pocket. But don't be surprised when your rig ends up on the 'terrible Blackmagic rigs' Facebook Group... Either shoot BRAW. So you can't go wrong if you want more colour depth.

Atlas Anamorphics are great. The Vazen full frame ones work too. Or you go the DIY route with projections lenses...
I mean it's of course a nice rig but the cost...well only the URSA costs 6000 dollars...
Like I mentioned, it’s a rig built up over many years. It has paid for itself many times over though.

Honestly, I’m no fan of the Komodo. The noise on the sensor cropped-in slowmo shots is horrible and the reason I chose the G2 for its great frame rates without crop in on the sensor.
Also, the entire BRAW workflow integrated with Resolve is a dream to work with.
Honestly, they are both good cameras. All cameras are good these days.
The Komodo is a smaller package to begin with. The G2 has more should rig-ergonomics with the camera brain already offering great handling out of the box with its button layout. The Komodo is probably the better gimbal camera as it’s small and cube shaped.
Always consider the accessories and prices of all the extras you need to build the camera out to your purposes.
Those smallhd monitors are insanely overpriced. 2-3k for a 7inch monitor is diabolical
They are.
But they are also by far the best and most reliable. I’ve gone through many cheaper ones… but my SmallHd still looks and works like on day 1.
@chriseyrewalker portkeys is pretty solid or ninja atomos or Blackmagic 12g 7inch Video Assist all amazing quality around $300-600 range. Smallhd used to be an affordable company then something happened and now there charging insane prices for the same monitors 🤷♂️ the quality didn't get any better they're just charging 2-3k for 7 inch monitors 😅

Despite the pro level camera and rigs you have a cheap ass tripod head. So many people neglect the tripod when it should be something that can outlast your cameras many times over and make or break how the videos is captured.
