- In this video, I go through the updates from the previous version as well as my thoughts and experiences shooting with the camera, some good things some not so good things. Overall I think this is one amazing camera, especially for the cost.

Thanks for this helpful review. I appreciated you did it after having used the camera for "true" shots.
Thanks! I always like to try and get out in the real world with the gear before I make videos so I really understand how it operates.
your videos are so helpful every time! thanks man!
Good information. Thanks for sharing
Great Review... this looks like an amazing camcorder!!!
Thank you for the detailed review. what were the specs of the Cfast cards you used on shoot? also any opinions on the SSD options available?
Good review. This is for sure my next camera when my URSA Mini 4K shits the bed lol. Amazing camera for the price! I also use the RED Epic for work and the day time outdoor stuff is basically identical most of the time lol. Good going Blackmagic for making a $3K camera that can do that!
Great video! I agree 100% about backlit buttons. FYI, I balance my G2 nicely on the MoviPro with a Xeen cine lens, follow focus motor and a Bright Tangerine Misfit Mattebox with ND filter.
Would love to see a photo of that setup! If you have one send it over to @lensprotogo on Instagram

Great video, Greg!
What shoulder rig would you recommend? Was looking for something with more customization and the shape one looks cool, a bit expensive but if its durable and good enough i'm ok with that. The blackmagic one is cheap but not being able to change the arms lenght nor rotate the handle isn't good enough :/
cheers!
I'd like to see a video of your multiple rigs with this camera in different environments
EVF have internal peaking as i remumber. Just turn off peaking on front SDI output. Dedicated mic mount from BM pretty good.
I want to have the peaking on though to pull focus from. Yeah I didn't realize they had one it does look pretty good and its fairly compact.
@@lensprotogo I think he meant that the EVF has a separate peaking function, so you can disable focus peaking on the front SDI, and turn it on on the EVF. I don't know about that since I don't have the EVF. Other than that you can use the non-colored focus peaking as well which I like even more.
Use the focus peaking built into the camera body rather than the peaking built into the eye piece. They're separately managed. The internal focus peaking settings won't highlight the start/stop.
this is a really honest review because you convinced us not to buy it with all these defects you explained
Thank you. Can you recommend some settings for shorting indoor scenes thanks.
I just had that problem you mentioned about recording! Peaking making everything in viewfinder red was super confusing.
Can you do a XML native file from premiere to Davinci with that Braw application?
in the G3 version would like to have sensor stabilization, electronic variable ND Filter and Global Shutter
I shot a western short with the ursa mini 4.6k G1, and had a lot of the same thoughts- do you like shooting with this more than a C200?
Is there any way of shooting HD without the sensor crop? if you were shooting HD prores at 25/30fps or 50/60fps would you still need to crop the sensor?
What about IR pollution? Is it present in the G2
Blackmagic just released a BM raw plug-in for Premier!
Just saw that!
hi, sorry man, great video, only question, how is about autofocus?
Please make a video explaining the different resolutions. I don't understand the various crop factors between them
I sort of talk about it in this video on the black magic pocket 6k ruclips.net/video/qFoVISRKaTA/видео.html
Thanks for the great review, BTW I tested with 300fps with HD windowed sensor but have seen huge image quality down compare to 120fps with 4.6K full sensor. Did you see the fact? thanks.
Where i can see the that footage
Yes, same happens with the UM46k when shooting 120 FPS there is a significant we quality loss. Think is that the sensor read speed as a high bit rate and high FPS is just not possible with the hardware the camera currently has.
I wonder if they come up with a 6k Version as they updated the BMPCC 4k now.
I am sure its on the way :) Hopefully with improvements of the body, too
i definitely think its coming
that's what I'm waiting for. I reckon it will be announced at NAB 2020 or just before FX9 goes on sale
can we use samsung T5 ssd with ursa mini G2 using type C cable? because i have gone through many videos and i didnt find a single video who use samsung T5 ssd with this camera! thank in advance ☺️
what was this video recorded with ?
Blackmagic does sell a mic mount, it's very well built and way more sturdy than Sony's or canon's one. As the blackmagic one is made out of metal and it has a build in shock absorber. @3:06 www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursaminipro/accessories
Btw Nice video!
Thanks Luis yeah the Blackmagic one is nice
@@lensprotogo :)
Change the peacking color next time. I got mine green, works great. And use the record button on the handgrip instead. ;)
1:20 their native iso is 800 not 3200
Anime Zone correct. It’s not dual native like the pocket.
I’d prefer the Pocket built out for a festival. Especially for night time.
How can record with USB-c
At 6:16 you tell that the peaking of the viewfinder is annoying because it peaks everything, BUT you have to set peaking in the menu of the camera, NOT at the menu of the viewfinder, then your problem is gone.
there is a BM UMP mic accessory
sir this camera has autofocus or not
I was expecting some footage ;)
ruclips.net/video/fufB1f-ooMA/видео.html&t= a little late but there is a footage video!
@@lensprotogo ahah so late that I bought mine 6month ago ;)
What would you say is the best lens for this camera to achieve the closest thing to the cinematic look?
Depends what your trying to shoot and what look you are going for
It took a while for BlackMagic to start delivering cameras on time and it will probably take more time for them to stop releasing alpha products, some of the issues you reported here is the reason that so many people don't go BlackMagic despite the specs and price, because you've got to compromise on reliability and function. Quality control issues, focus peaking the text and icons, things that are not practical, no illumination on the buttons, the little things, the details reveal that BlackMagic still has some homework to do. They need to fix these things for more people take them seriously, otherwise, it will always be about compromise.
Interesting. What what be your goto cine camera?
The amount of recording options built into the camera makes it worth it for ENG jobs. Got a client that only needs HD? Boom! SD Card. Need 4.6K RAW? Boom CFast 2.0 or SSD.
Hi. what zoom lense for filmmaking will you recomend for this cam ? for low budget movie ? affordable, not much more than 5000$
I love the sigma cine line all the primes and the 18-35 zoom
Is a review of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K planned?
Yeah for sure and it should come soon!
Is there a delay when switching between presets?
Yes but it’s very short maybe 2 seconds
What? But they do sell a microphone mount.
Ahh thanks, I do see that well have to pick them up to put in our kits.
Not that precise... Sensor is an update of the same one in the G1, ISO 3200 is not native, Gen4 Colour Science is available on the G1 too...
Man this new camera sounds like a nightmare for fast shooting.
Does BRAW work with FCPX?
nope
Does now if you download blackmagic 1.5
Dont have light to see the bottons. 😅😅😅
Will there be a new Ursa mini pro anytime soon as they’ve just realised a pocket 6k? There B cam overpowers A cam
In resolution it's better, but the G2 outperforms it in regards to color and dynamic range.
The “Native iso” is still 800 and the 3200 is still just adding digital gain to the shadows
what is bit rate g2 10 Bit or 8 Bit?
When you shoot raw its 12 bit
@@lensprotogo thanks for reply. And what is bit rate when i am not recording raw?
@@Hardik_wildlife_filmmaker 10 bit
The base ISO is 3200. Does that mean to get the widest dynamic range, you have to use ISO 3200? At 800, do you get less DR? It reminds me of the old Sony A7S.
Riki Watanabe the native is 800
@@Robocobo Yeah that's what I thought haha. Thank you!
A lot of real world downsides explored here but dollar per dollar I don't know that there is a better value in this class. I talk myself out of it with clips like this, spend time looking at Reds and Arri then come back full circle to how much bang for the buck BMD packs into their equipment.
The problem man 🙄
