    I'm using the Panasonic S1, and switching over to the S5II X camera next. It's missing the internal ND, but it's better suited for my run and gun style of work. The image is quite fantastic to work with, especially with Prores HQ support. Between FX6 and BM cameras, I would rent the Ursa 12K for fiction projects, because I don't need autofocus in those scenarios, love the 12K BRAW codec, and I really like the Super 35 sensor format for filmmaking

    Sony's are just unbeatable in terms of usability and practicality in my experience, but I've never in my life seen better footage than when I tried out the URSA 4.6K G2 for a 3 days shoot.
    But the harsh truth is that most people and clients don't care about that extra 10 % image quality to sacrifice the usability and practicality from the Sony cameras.
    Nice video tho. New sub here!

      Thanks! Definitely agree with you that clients won’t necessarily see the difference. So if we consider that, it really comes down to what WE enjoy the most. And that’ll vary from person to person. Some people will want the BEST image. Others will want the usability and practicality. ☺️

    I've been using Blackmagic products since the ATEM television studio and have had a rocky past with them. On the digital cinema camera side of things, nothing but positives. I've owned the Ursa Mini 4.6K, PCC4K and the PCC6K pro and they all performed great. I was apprehensive at first to suggest them for purchase based on my experience with the company on the broadcast end. The early ATEM line was finicky to say the least and their convertors were notoriously hit or miss. Don't even get me started on the failure that was the Intensity Shuttle USB. It's odd seeing the company lean so hard into broadcast with their past being what it is, but I suppose so much has changed in the industry over the past 10 years that budget dictates all. This lean also saddens me in the aspect that I fear the company will devote more time to developing that side of the business, allowing their digital cinema camera family to fall to the wayside. The URSA is now being transitioned into a broadcast camera and the PCC line is just repackaging the same camera with slightly different features. It's odd to think the next camera I purchase might not be a Blackmagic, but I thought the same thing back when I was shooting on a Sony, Panasonic and Canon respectively.

      @@JohnCastillo Overall image quality … Highlight rolloff, Being able to film in 8k or 12k depending on the shoot (8k faster read out of the sensor…in 12k a bit more dynamic range & whatever noise will be invisible when you export in 4k)… Braw along with Color Management in Davinci Resolve…etc
      8k, 120fps and higher… This camera is amazing. I’m so happy I purchased this camera over others near its price point for the work I enjoy doing.
      The camera is basically future proof over the other cameras near its price range. BUT I would like some updates, like gyro data & other codec options…etc.
      The more codec option, is so I can hand off the footage to clients (H.265...etc).Some of my clients didn't like the fact that the Ursa only filmed in Braw.

    I feel the same way about Sony and Blackmagic. I can't afford the URSA 4.6 G2 or the FX6, but I can afford the A7S3 and the Pocket 4K, and they both work well in the two use cases you outlined. Because a lot of what you pointed out about those cameras, are things that both manufacturers try to incorporate in all their products. That said, there is one area where I think BM wins hands down, firmware updates.

    You didn't mention the changeable mount on the G2, which allows it to use PL and B4 lenses. The latter is great for the whole broadcast environment - not sure if the Fx6 can use those B4 lenses.

    • @JohnCastillo
      @JohnCastillo  Год назад +1

      True! You can use adaptors with the FX6, but it’s certainly not the same as having a native mount! I talk about this a bit more in my latest video, comparing the URSA Broadcast G2 with the URSA Mini G2 ☺️

  •  Год назад +1

    Hello! Thanks for the video. Do you possibly know the latency on the SDI output for FX6 and G2? Could FX6 for example be used for IMAG in live concert. How much latency is to much for IMAG? Thank you!

    • @JohnCastillo
      @JohnCastillo  Год назад

      I'm not sure about the numerical value of latency off the top of my head, but I can tell you that I have used Sony FX3, FX6, and FX9 for IMAG in live concert. It had a bunch of effects layered on, so delay was a bit less of a concern, but it worked for our needs.

      In this video I had the Canon CNE 18-80. It’s great to use with Zoom and Focus handles. We’ve also used the Canon CNE 70-200 for the same reason. Both great lenses and *reasonably* affordable against the competition for cine servo lenses.

    • @JohnCastillo
      @JohnCastillo  Год назад +2

      I think it very much depends on the vein of work you’re in. If you work in cinema, you’ll have a focus puller and blocking in order to ensure focus and focus transitions, as well as large monitors, and multiple people referencing them for lighting, framing, and yea, focus.
      But there are so many other professional lines of videography - such as corporate interviews, documentaries, advertisement, music videos, conferences, wedding videos, event live-streaming. My company works in many of these and we use autofocus all the time ☺️ sometimes as simple as autofocus and locking it off. Other times continuous AF for tracking shots, or even “Push AF” for conferences & live streaming! I don’t think it’s that black and white.
