Nice! I did something very similar and I’ve also been calling it a VRX+! Haha! I bought a 2020 Vitus Mythique last summer and because of availability (and budget) I went with the VR. The first thing I did was add a OneUp Dropper post. Next I went after the suspension. The X-Fusion stuff is ok but it’s definitely budget grade. I saved up and put a new 150mm Z2 on it and a used 140mm Rockshox Monarch RT, that I also had to rebuild. I upgraded the front rotor to a 203 a month or so ago and soon I’ll replace the brakes themselves. For now though, this thing rides like a dream!
Just so you know mate, crows foot on torque wrenches need to be perpindicular to the handle not inline for accurate tightening. This is because torque is a force X distance and having the crows foot in any other orientation adds distance effectively adding torque.

Hi Evan, i have a vrx and was looking to upgrade the rear shock to a rt3 too, but VITUS spec their shock with medium rebound and low compression. I contacted VITUS and they say they designed the kinematics of the vrx around the medium rebound and low compression. I know RockShox do medium rebound and low compression kits. The rockshox service manual recommends 28 nm on the seal head / air piston. That's probably why 40 nm felt like too much, good catch on that one though without breaking it. Nice vid
He doesn't seem to know much about setup and I guess he likes it really soft. 🤷♂️ what he doesn't seem to understand is that you have to balance the front and the rear. If he's running 30% at the rear then he should be running no less than 25%+ at the front if he wants the bike to be balanced. My guess is he's not running 25% at the front or more. Which means the bike is probably not setup properly, he may like the way rides but it could be better. Balancing the suspension is very vital to proper load transfer.
I'm upgrading my Vitus Mythique too. I was wondering do you know the diameter of the air can on the Monarch Plus? I am thinking of changing to a coil shock but I'm not sure if it will fit. There really isn't much wiggle room already between the X-Fusion shock and the seat tube. Any help is appreciated. Great video!
Oil free grease only in the air chamber is much better but requires more frequent greasing. Easy quick service with a smoother stroke and no mess in the can. (Oil and grease don’t mix and make a nasty mixture)
I have an older Rockshox Ario RL rear shock from 2014 - It needed servicing - I did it myself - made some mistakes - making it unusable - so I bought a new rear shock but don’t want to just throw this old one away - any recommendations?
Hi! Can you help me please. Why could oil travel in damper only in one direction, during bleeding? When in push damper down, it wont go up. All oil go thru damper piston, but won't go back. I have to use a lot of strenght to forcify retract it back up. Shimstacks are ok, IFP damper is open. What could it be? Thanks.
RockShox grease is just Slickoleum, same with Sram Butter, all are manufactured by Slickoleum. it's probably same formula, just rebranded, also S,.ick Honey is the same too.
Hi. Im going to give it a go to refurbish my stuck Monarch RT Debonair for my Hightower. I took the sleeve off to find that I had 7 of them rubber bands around the air chamber. I see yours has 3. One of the rubber bands had somehow curled down past the top end of the cylinder and was over lapping the middle rubber ring on it. So I am guessing that was the problem with it. I will admit I most likely have closer to 1000 hours on it than a 100 hours. So its no wonder it needs servicing. But my question is... if you or anyone else here knows.... WHY does mine have 7 red rubber bands around it ? Does it have something to do with tuning it ? I used to be 375lbs and am now around 300. Santa Cruz here in UK originally tuned it for me for my weight in 2017 so it wasn't done by amateur I assume ? Should I look into maybe not put as many of them red rubber bands in it when I service it ?
Question i have a monarch plus shock but it has a damaged 222x66 damper body. I would like to replace it . I have a stock 213 x 63 monarch shock . So here is my question, would it be possible to swap those two?
Does it have an actual lock out mode? If so, does it completely lock out, meaning make it rigid? Idk if you saw my vid a couple of weeks ago where I actually ask for advise.
Surprised you got the red ifp adapater to work. Lots of people have to modify it to function properly. It’s something which rockshox still hasn’t addressed in all these years.
I couldnt show it on camera for sake of time, but it did give me major problems. Tried cutting the nipple off the schraeder valve. Didn't work. Then it just magically starting working after 10 attempts.
Ugh... anyting x-fusion is subpar they are on the lower end of performance and I would compare x-fusion to DNM. Don't waste your money with x-fusion components.
Hi Evan, I also have a Vitus Mythique and was wondering if it's worth upgrading to a higher quality rear shock. Did it make a significant difference to your bike and do you think it's worth the upgrade?
Great video my friend! You got a new subscriber :D My Rockshox Monarch Plus RC3 Is not working neither the rebound nor the 3 block positions, do you think this can fix it? Thanks, keep it up!
Wanna see how that thing runs! And quick question, what size dropper would you recommend for the Vitus Nucleus 29VR? I picked one up in a large (i know you had medium) but I noticed the same as you that the seat post is SUPER long. I want to get a dropper but is there a point to get a 200mm dropper if I'm gonna use maybe 100mm of it?
I'm happy with 150mm on my Nucleus VR. In fact, I don't think I could fit longer travel. Measure how much seatpost is currently out of the frame and subtract 20mm
I'd say no to a 200mm dropper. I have a 125mm dropper and have the seat clamped kinda high, which works out great. Really no need for the seat to go all the way slammed. In your case, I'd say a 150mm would be perfect.
To be fair, time is the most valuable asset in the world, so that should factor in to your total cost to rebuild the VR. Great job of course, but not really comparing apples to apples.
Well I replaced the X Fusion and that was a big difference. I never rode a regular Monarch so I couldn't tell you. I'm sure it's not a gigantic difference enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars.
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks, I'd be interested to try a marzocchi coil with a progressive spring on it maybe a year down the road when they're cheap second hand
@@EvansMTBSaga I ride pretty rough trails and I can definitely feel on my 27.5" hard tail that it definitely could benefit from better roll over of bigger wheels so I'd decided to get the 29" model in size large 👍
If u tightened to bottom out, u crushed the o ring....depending on location...the seal wont last. Get a torque wrench(s) with the right range and use the crow's feet correctly for proper performance and service life. The sram engineers dont work out the required torque for fun! Torques are important. You may have over torqued and damaged by parts and sealing surfaces by 'doing as tight as u can'!!!
Always doing rebuilds whenever they tell you isn't affordable if you ride a lot, i ride 30 hours a week in summer (at least) and about 20 in winter, it would truly brake the bank
Sweet man, the plus is a nice shock. I've got the normal RT3 monarch on my Vitus. Love it, it's much more plush then the stock shock. Love the stuff you do on the mythique. BTW, how's the paint holding up? I find it the worst, chips quite easiliy.
You upgraded this vitus very smartly untill this point, but damn, u could get some budget carbon wheels to lose some weight and maybe gain some rigidity (budget isn't the right word because carbon wheels are expensive)
Man i wish i was like you, i just spent 1,029 buck on a pro tune and bought a X01 chain ring and cassette, new pads and everything was cleaned, but i could have saved myself some money, i have a Trekstache7 2019 and i love it
It's going to be a little while. Need to find a decent rim and then figure out the spoke lengths. I'd say 3 weeks out. (got other videos planned in the mean time)
You can't just use any grease...the seals can be degraded...lucky for u the Slikoleum slick honey (if that's what u used) is the same grease as sram butter (that rockshox used to spec), so u are lucky. Suspension grease is non corrosive to the nitrile seals/oring used in forks/shocks. But many, including other slikoleum greases aren't! RS now spec the dynamic grease +oil as it performs way way better... much smoother.
You get a small tube of Dynamic Seal grease included with the genuine service kits!! @$45 are u sure thats a genuine kit? Exceptionally cheap... and should have dynamic grease as I said.
I give you credit. Doing a full shock rebuild is something I don’t mess with. I’ve done a upper seal replacement and new oil in a Fox fork, but not a full rebuild. You can send you suspension into Fox. They charge $190 for forks and $160 for rear to do a full factory rebuild. Spent $350 in January to have them do it.
one reason why i went back to hardtail... and thats not even servicing all the pivot points. also i thought the older i got the nicer bike i would want and im definitely going the other way, to a cheaper and simpler build every new bike i build. videos like this are great cause they show folks they if they are willing to tackle someone elses problem they can keep the barrier to more expensive equipment lower.
Thanks for the props guys! It was my first time doing this, but I had so much fun doing the fork servicing. The instructions from Rockshox and Fox are super clear and I believe anyone can do it with a little courage and sweat!

50.5mm. I have very little clearance too. Probably too small to measure. You can see it in the video
Nice rebuild man . Too few people are wrenching on Their own ride !
lets get him to 10 k subscribers I subscribed to u ages ago and it was worth it.
Thanks James I'd love to hit 10k!
U are making quality content and I have used a lot of your advice for my bikes keep it up
Oil free grease only in the air chamber is much better but requires more frequent greasing. Easy quick service with a smoother stroke and no mess in the can. (Oil and grease don’t mix and make a nasty mixture)
that's going to change your bike, it's going to be awesome
Great video!
Well done sir
Ayeeee! another upload!
Super early this time!!
I have an older Rockshox Ario RL rear shock from 2014 - It needed servicing - I did it myself - made some mistakes - making it unusable - so I bought a new rear shock but don’t want to just throw this old one away - any recommendations?
Sounds like it might be a total loss. I have two derailleurs that are total losses and I keep them around to harvest a speciality part if I need to
@@EvansMTBSaga that makes sense - thank you
Thanks.
Idk why but i dont have the 3 circle red on the inside, and what are his circle called
How bad of a day do you need to be having to dislike Evans videos?
RockShox grease is just Slickoleum, same with Sram Butter, all are manufactured by Slickoleum.
it's probably same formula, just rebranded, also S,.ick Honey is the same too.
Greetings, what is the size of the mounting hardware thank you
Hi Evan love your vids, I have the exact same shock and it feels super bad and it’s loud... it seems really complicated and I’m not sure what to do
It rained in Tucson too yesterday no more dust
Yeah and now I'm stuck at work and can't enjoy the somewhat tacky dirt!
I am scared to go out 20 mph wind but I did fix up my dirt jumps
Hey do you now the maximum size shock I can fit to the same model
120 bucks? Not bad for a not quite so new shock but kinda such as that. Keep it up Evan
Thanks Deni!!
where can I find this full rebuild kit
Yeah but it might mess up your geometry a little. Similar stroke, but also you'd have less travel by a little
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks for the reply. The availabilty of parts here is very scarce. Good to know that it's compatible. 👍 thanks 👍
Man I'm jealous! Great job with the rebuild!
4:28 u gotta turn the crows foot 90 degrees to the side
Haha a lot of people told me. I had no clue! Thanks Bobo
@@EvansMTBSaga also I’m a bike mechanic so I can get parts and stuff at a good discount if u ever need something I can help ya out
nice one evan..oh what brand is your lil portable pump?thank u
I think it's a Gyro or Giro. One of the cheaper ones. Works good!
Evans MTB Saga thanks evans
Hi. Im interisted with the fox shocks...what is the exact travel on it...tnx
Email me at legaspikinesium@yahoo.ca
What is the condition of the Fox dpx 2, can you send some pictures tnx...
I have the same shock but it has knocking noises.. idk what to do with it
Opinion on the RockShox, Super Deluxe Ultimate RCT, Rear shock ?
Amazing shock. One of my favorites
Does it have an actual lock out mode? If so, does it completely lock out, meaning make it rigid? Idk if you saw my vid a couple of weeks ago where I actually ask for advise.
It does not have a true lock out. The pedal mode is super nice though!
4:27, it's only 28nm, or 248 in-lb.
Great video. Just wandering if you were going to review the ride feel of the nee shock? Is it any good compared to the xfusion? Cheers
Ugh... anyting x-fusion is subpar they are on the lower end of performance and I would compare x-fusion to DNM.
Don't waste your money with x-fusion components.
@@rider65 hey. I meant review the monarch compared to the x fusion. Really I just want to know how much better it is
Hi Evan, I also have a Vitus Mythique and was wondering if it's worth upgrading to a higher quality rear shock. Did it make a significant difference to your bike and do you think it's worth the upgrade?
Hey man I have the same shock to go on my mythique do I need mounting hardware in the bottom eyelet or just the top?
Yeah I had to buy both top and bottom
@@EvansMTBSaga Thanks for the quick reply man! Any chance you could tell me what way the little spacers on the ends of the pin face?
@@EvansMTBSaga Hey man, struggling to get my shock mounted, could you send me a link for mounting kits? my end spacers look different to yours
Great video my friend! You got a new subscriber :D My Rockshox Monarch Plus RC3 Is not working neither the rebound nor the 3 block positions, do you think this can fix it? Thanks, keep it up!
Solid!
@@EvansMTBSaga appreciate the feedback! Thanx guys
How much travel does that shock have ?
I’ve just serviced my monarch r and I don’t think I set the IFP correctly does it really matter? The shock feels good
Did you pump it to 250 psi?
@@EvansMTBSaga yeh I pressurised it
Oh then it sounds like you did it correctly.
@@EvansMTBSaga I don’t think I pushed it down far enough
To be fair, time is the most valuable asset in the world, so that should factor in to your total cost to rebuild the VR. Great job of course, but not really comparing apples to apples.
True, but also consider people dump many hours a day into social media and TV, and I don't do either. It's all about what's a priority in your life.
Rosckhox shocks are good but hardtails are unbeatable
I've just ordered a mythique VRX, how much better do you think this shock is than the stock monarch R?
Well I replaced the X Fusion and that was a big difference. I never rode a regular Monarch so I couldn't tell you. I'm sure it's not a gigantic difference enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars.
@@EvansMTBSaga thanks, I'd be interested to try a marzocchi coil with a progressive spring on it maybe a year down the road when they're cheap second hand
Second hand is the way to go! Did you pick up a 27.5?
@@EvansMTBSaga I ride pretty rough trails and I can definitely feel on my 27.5" hard tail that it definitely could benefit from better roll over of bigger wheels so I'd decided to get the 29" model in size large 👍
Did you upgrade the drivetrain to a 12 speed?
Not yet. Probably next weeks video!
Id love to go carbon! I found some carbon all Mtn wheels on aliexpress for $400!! Still haven't decided if I wanna go for it. 🤔
How do you calculate what you Said at 2.30?
It tells you on the shock. Or if you buy the bike new, it should tell you on the spec sheet
Please watch if the rear tire slams on the seat tube because you got more travel than the xfusion
Good point. The upper model Mythique frames have the same shock stroke 200x57. Same frame.
Heh i got a 216x63 one for my monarch for 90€, and it was fully rebuilt before i got it :D
Real life mechaics, i love it!
Super easy to do if you put your mind to it!
Man i wish i was like you, i just spent 1,029 buck on a pro tune and bought a X01 chain ring and cassette, new pads and everything was cleaned, but i could have saved myself some money, i have a Trekstache7 2019 and i love it
Trek stash is a nice bike man! Bike maintenance and work is so easy! You can definitely do all of this work yourself. RUclips is your #1 tool!
@@EvansMTBSaga amen for DIY
What rebuild kit do I use for this same shock I'm doing the same thing .I paid 55.00
check the description
I just bought a cane creek Dbair il will it fit my mythiqe should have done more research it says the mythiqe is trunnion
Yeah I bought a DPX2 trunnion thinking the same thing but the shock is not trunnion, the linkage is
@@EvansMTBSaga ahhh I’m so happy 😂 ordered hardware and a shock then started reading 😂😂😂
Yes please ride review
I'll get right on it! Glad you asked!
When you going to upgrade that drivetrain? Sick build on the shock! I’m too lazy for that but very cool too see done!
It's going to be a little while. Need to find a decent rim and then figure out the spoke lengths. I'd say 3 weeks out. (got other videos planned in the mean time)
Trunion - [Trun Yun] like onion with a T.
Thanks I appreciate that!
RS now spec the dynamic grease +oil as it performs way way better... much smoother.
flip you shock upside down. apparently it provides benefits as the piston is driving into the body.
I will try it out, although it may make contact with the frame! Everything is a super tight fit in the frame's front triangle!
You get a small tube of Dynamic Seal grease included with the genuine service kits!! @$45 are u sure thats a genuine kit? Exceptionally cheap... and should have dynamic grease as I said.
Haha who knows anymore right! I think I just got a kit with the grease for the first time, but it came with the shock.
This looked like such a pain in the ass to rebuild, worth it for those sweet $$$$’s saved though!
