We use our speed squares a lot. They are really handy for many things. We mostly use them for checking how square the edge of a board is, but before we got a table saw, we used it to guide a circular saw to make a nice crosscut.

Horse wrap tape is the best to wrap the handles of clamps to make it grip more easily. Especially bessey f style clamps. It gives it more gripping pressure so you can really torque down on what you're clamping. I also found that wrapping my mallets and carving axes also makes it more comfortable to hold while woodworking.

Matt, I love these videos! I have purchased lots of these items after you have presented them. I would like to note I started my clamp collection with these Jorgenson clamps, however, I had a little different experience than you. Yes, they are very economical (not cheap) but the link you provided were to the ones I purchased a few years back and are the MD or Medium Duty clamps rated at 600 lbs. of clamping pressure. These do bow when really torqued down but do not remain bent to the extent of the other ones you showed. The ones you were using/showing were the HD or Heavy Duty line. Yes, they are much more "Robust" clamp and I don't have any of those so no experience with them as far as bowing goes, because they are more expensive and rated at 1000 lbs., more than I would ever need. The LD or Light Duty are rated at 300 lbs. and really bow and bend. Probably more than I needed to say but just thought you would like to know...so there you go. ;-)

Harbor Freight has a quick Grip style Clamp By Bremen The Pads are really huge with V shaped groove inside the pad for clamping sharp edge corners. The end comes off and can be reversed to make a spreader. Really powerful quick grip at a good price. The grip power alone out grips my Irwin’s by a long shot.IMO

I picked up some Jorgenson clamps a couple weeks ago and I really like them too! They just feel "right." Harbor Freight should be named Harbor FRIGHT. I've purchased a lot of stuff there, but it's always been inconsequential stuff where quality doesn't matter (as much). I won't buy stuff there if I need high quality. Thanks for the tips! I'm a rank amateur and need all the good tips I can find!

Something I've come to like A lot is the project select roller and brush cleaner.
I used a hole saw to drill a hole in the center of the lid of a 2 gallon pale.
Then I fill it up a quarter of the way with Paint thinner.
Insert the brush and spin away.
It's made cleaning my brushes much much easier.

I've had the issue of my Jorgensen clamps popping off during glue ups because the rubber and paint combo of the clamp isn't good. The plasti dip is a great idea for them im gonna pick me up a can this week. Other than the rubber feet I agree they are substantially better than my bessey f clamps .

Jorgensen squeeze clamps are my favorite. I have some older Irwin squeeze clamps but the Jorgensens are my go to due to the wider pad and grip strength.

I think one of the main considerations with clamps is ergonomics, or how it feels to use. In different situations, I want different ergonomics. Heavy clamps can be too hard to work with, or I need a one handed trigger clamp or a deep throat or I need to fit in a tight space.
I have many clamps from both Bessey and Jorgensen. For the Clutch style F-Clamps, Jorgensen has 3 sizes, light, medium, and heavy. Of those, only the heavy clamps and maybe the smallest light duty clamps get used. Bessey has two sizes and I'm interested in both. Generally I think for the same size clamps, the Bessey is far more solid, but there are certain jobs that suit the big size of the HD Jorgensen better. At smaller sizes the bars of the Jorgensen flex too much.
In fact, the HD Jorgensen Clamps and the smallest Jorgensen trigger clamps are generally the only ones I'll continue to add to my collection. For everything else, I'll probably use some Bessey clamp. I like the Bessey Trigger clamps better in every size but the smallest, and I especially like the Uniklamp instead of a clutch style F-Clamp. I definitely prefer the Bessey Pipe clamps over Jorgensen. I also find that the pads come off a little easier on most of the Jorgensen clamps.
The Jorgensen clamps aren't bad, but the Besseys are almost always a little better.

Just bought the Fast Track clamp. I noticed that the clamp hangs the guide rails right side up, as opposed to upside down, like other clamps. I hung my 75" festool guide rail and noticed that when in the right side up configuration (with the splinter strip down), the splinter strip pushes on the guide rail groove causing an indentation in the strip. Does anyone know that uses this rail holder if that indentation is problematic when cutting? I'm guessing not, but I would like to be sure.

The difference between 1/8" divisions and 1/64" divisions is Precision, not accuracy. Accuracy is closeness to the "true" value, which for a steel rule is more or less constant. (They do vary with temperature, but in a typical climate-controlled workshop the variation is insignificant.)

I like all your picks but one, the budget square. I have tried several, including the iGauge brand and none of them are worth the apparent savings. The cost of inaccurate measuring tools is immense. Spend more on them, and save a lot on wasted time, material, and frustration. I have several of these budget squares, I keep trying to find a use for them, you know, for welding or outside when working on a fence or something where I don't want muck up a Sarrett or Woopeckers' square. But when I need a square, why would I use one I know isn't square?

    16th of an inch? wtf...
Ever heard of the metric system? Where everything is *10 or /10...?

Plastic clamps - you might as well flush your money down the crapper. The WILL break in the not-so-distant future. Way too much worthless plastic infiltrating the workshop.

🙄 They'll last a long time. It's not like these clamps take a lot of abuse. They hold on edge banding.

@@731Woodworks You don't even have to use them, plastic degrades with age and exposure. Rubber teeth are more practical than plastic clamps in wood working.

That should be plural. "recommendations" with an s if you are saying they are all stupid. Or were you just referring to one of them?

Seriously, two unskippable ads before the video, a sponsor spiel AND a mid-stream ad for this frankly weak content? And you want 500k subscribers? Step back from the cash register dude, your going to get a repetitive motion injury. The only thing you're getting from me is a "Do not recommend channel".

I appreciate your feedback. The weak content you speak of has grown the channel to nearly 300k. The ads, are part of the platform to help me make a living (and the platform to make money too). Every channel has ads on them, it's just part of it.
