When using your table saw to joint boards, you should not put pressure toward the fence on both sides of the blade unless you have a shim on your exit side the same thickness as the amount of wood you are shaving off. Remember, your jointer outfeed table is higher than your infeed table; hence, you put pressure on the outfeed side as the board exits the cutter head. Your FastCap tape may also be thick enough to be used as the shim -- depends on how much wood you are removing and how thick the FastCap tape is ? Love your tee-shirts. Keep up the good work.
A couple of months ago, I was finely tired of tear out on my miter saw - not only on the bottom, but also against the fence. I installed the Zero Clearence Tape on the throat plate and a zero clearance fence and now I have absolutely perfect cuts from my miter saw. The tape is highly recommended.
I use the Zero Clearance tape on the Miter saw a bit. It's great and easy. Still, if I bevel I usually have to replace it pretty quick. For that reason, I've got a Colliflower plate coming in the mail which is likely to make it obsolete. I use the Colliflower plate for the SawStop and I'm really happy.
I use Magnetic trays, but I recommend the round ones over the square ones because the square ones often have some dead zone at the edge that the round ones don't.
1-2-3 Blocks - What don't they do?
The fence clamps like those are fine for sacrificial fences or jigs. Sometimes when I want a quick release variant I'll make larger holes and use table clamps.
For that zero clearance tape, maybe I should "borrow" some stick-on vinyl my wife uses for her CriCut projects. After all, she borrows my chisels to open paint cans sometimes.
Lol
You could borrow her Cricut to try to trim this very thick vinyl to fit your saw. She would have to buy a new blade for her Cricut afterwards. I'm sure that would make her happy.
@@waguchan2414 She has the CriCut Maker that will cut balsa and basswood so thick vinyl isn't an issue.
@@waguchan2414 also you clearly misread his comment he said borrow vinyl from her cricut. not the vinyl in the video so obviously the cricut can cut vinyl specifically made for it
These are great videos!
Glad you like them!
I love how you always point out the safety on any job or use of tools.
Hola! 🖐Like the video, I really like the magnetic "hanger". Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Awesome tips, thank you
Thanks Matt!!
This is cool that the fence clamps and set up blocks are in the same vid. I use them in conjunction on the table saw fence for cross cuts with mitre gauge, this offsets the measurement by exactly one inch making the cut safer. Just add one inch for the set up block.
"If your draws are super organized like mine." That cuts. That cuts deep, Matt. 😂. Also, I love stumpy nubs channel. He is a straight shooter and I like that.

Love the Rockler mat and set up blocks. Great choices
Your causing me to want to spend more money…..😂😂. Great video!!
Have you tried Target’s plastic shelf liner? A lot cheaper than Rocker’s glue mat. Works the same way, glue doesn’t stick to it, and you get 4’ for $8.49 plus tax.
Hey Matt! Have you made a jerky cutting board? I would love to see how you would make one! Big fan
-from Matt
These are great options, even for the guy who is a DIY, thanks!
Thanks for the vid, added a few things to the cart 🛒.👌
FastCap "zero clearance" strips are a winner.
Thanks for the tip!
Tools and tips in one video?! Good stuff Matt! Keep it up brother!!
Thank you
Another great vid thank you
Also he mentioned that miter saw kickback. It ain’t no joke. Had to replace my whole blade guard because of a nasty kickback like he describes. Scary. Just be smart and not lazy
Never miss a video. Favorite channel. God bless you,
A hint for the tape. Clean the zero clearance piece with alcohol first and let it dry. The tape will adhere much better. After 30 years of applying decals to police and city cars, this is an easy way to make a good contact with the adhesive.
Hello, I'm from Canada and I'm just getting back into wood working. My shop is in a metal shed that is 12' x 10' which I share with my garden tools (lawn mower, snow blower, BBQ) I like your videos , how do I get free tools like you have?
Hey Matt, don't forget the fence clamps that TayTools also sell, which turn your 123 blocks into corner clamps!
Hey, Matt! Love your videos. Can you tell me where you got the handle on the end of your flex hose (larger diameter)? I've been looking for one, but haven't found it yet...
Thanks. Got it here www.rockler.com/rockler-dust-right-4-quick-change-handle
@@731Woodworks Thanks for the very quick response. I should have thought of Rockler... Keep up the great work, Matt!
Just thinking you could combine two of these. If you put that FastCap tape on the out feed side of the sacrificial fence you would have a good offset for your jointer jig!
Awesome video, even novice woodworkers like me can usually afford $30 and improve their craft.
How does the last one joint the board without having to move the material with the wood your jointing
The only way it would work as a jointer is if the sacrificial fence was long enough to support the entire edge of the board you wanted to joint before it encounters the blade. There are several good videos on making a jointing jig for the table saw.
Hey brother! Which link in description is for the jointing without a jointer that you referenced at 9:18? TIA

Weinig EasyStop.
What DS tape do you recommend?
I have no idea what brand name is of the one I have. I buy it from my hardwood supplier but there's no name on it. However, a lot of folks recommend this www.amazon.com/https-www.amazon.com-Woodworking-Accessories-Double-Sided-Tape-Removable-dp-B08GQ8XRHF/dp/B08GQBRQHY/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1DEYK7XD94GIV&keywords=woodworking%2Bdouble%2Bstick&qid=1685639314&sprefix=woodworking%2Bdouble%2Bsti%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzTEFGQ1VXSDFPVlpLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTE4MjYwMTFWTllLTVoyRlNRViZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTEyNTM4MVhCWlE3NFIyOUJBQiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1
Is that a Festool? How fancy! Love your videos Matt!
Thank you. Yes it is. Got it a few weeks ago
@@731Woodworks Thanks to you we have the 12” Ridged/Delta. My wife wanted it. I had no idea how handy a miter saw is!!!!! We just finished a laundry pedestal. We’d love to share pictures of it with you. How can we do that? Thanks!
Hi Matt, could the Rockler fence clamps be used in conjunction with the setup blocks say for clamping a drawer or box joint?
I don’t see why they couldn’t
Hi. @731woodworks For the zero clearance tape could it be used under the plate on a table saw my saw is the original kobalt saw that has a thin plate its like 1/16th or less thick. Thanks
I don't think it would give the same result. It may be better than not having it? And with the blade cutting down, it may pull it off?
@@731Woodworks I didn't even think about the blade ripping it off. Good point
Great magic trick! Pulling a rabbit out of a board. Sorry, it was just waiting there. I agree with you that these are all indispensable, inexpensive tools. Thanks!
I’m going to disagree with you on what zero clearance is for on a miter saw. A miter saw cuts on the up-cut, not the down-cut, like a table saw does. If you get tear out on a miter saw, it’s usually because you’re using a table saw blade, rather than a miter saw blade with a negative rake. On my miter saw, I use a zero clearance insert to keep chips from falling down. With or without it, I *never* get bottom tear out.
How do you like your Rikon bandsaw. I have an old Jet with a riser that cuts terribly during resaw cuts. I was thinking about that Rikon
I like it a lot.
@@731Woodworks thanks man, thats likely my next bigish purchase
Great work, Matt. You had me at #RareEarthMagnets! Scott
@3:16, just lower your throat plate so everything is in the same plane. And that silicone mat is something you never thought you needed until you use it. Then it's like 'where have you been all my life!' It's AWESOME.
Question for you. What is the stand you are using to hold the phone in some of the shots? I've been looking for something like that.
DJI phone gimbal
The zero clearance tape is 51% off ($9.99) for the pack of 5 strips right now (Amazon).
The hercules table saw now has a new version with a rack and pinion fence. No stand like the skil table saw, and also a shorter arbor than the skil, so no dado stack, but still a solid pick.
the rare earth magnet didn't wipe out the key fob circuit board?
Naw
If you were to start from scratch with a $1,200 budget what would you buy with that $1,200?
Skil Table Saw $299 (on sale). DeWalt 779 $400 (on sale). Drill/Driver set $150. Dewalt Sander $80. Massca M2 Pocket Hole Jig $100. With the other $200 I'd buy hand tools (tape measure, chisels, square, clamps, etc.).
@@731Woodworks Wow that was fast, Thank you so much!!! I've been on a 731 kick, I've been watching your videos all week lol you really got me interested in getting into woodworking :)

Top stuff!
Did you mention the most requested tool in your last video?
Bob

No links to where we can purchase these items?
Links are in the description
I have a magnet on my table saw fence and keep a dedicated tape measure right there
that tape is on sale for $10 right now, 10/15
Right now the zero clearance tape is only $10!
Howdy Mr. 731...
Cool video, as always.
Any thoughts to doing a review on the Bora clamps and Bora straight edge and Tracksaw guide?
Hey, what kind of double sided tape do you use? I've tried several. Gorilla D.Tape is good BUT, it's a pain in the rear to remove the backing and if using for several pieces, say, using it on a template to flush cut several pieces...the tape peels off and I have to reapply more tape. Sucks.
I tried carpet tape, it's TOO sticky, I end up putting scars on my workpiece taking it off. I've used 3M, but it's too thick, doesn't give me accuracy.
I've resorted to using the painters tape and CA glue method. This works great BUT, it's a hassle having to redo it all every time.
I need some D. Tape that'll stick to my template ONLY and stay sticky enough to use with another flush cut piece.
Not sure why, but the tape I use always stays stuck to my workpiece and not the jig. Perhaps cause the workpiece has grain/pores and my template is plywood or MDF, I dunno. It's frustrating.
I currently have some a friend gave me. No clue what the brand name is lol. I linked to some in the description that Stumpy Nubbs recommends. I'll check out the Bora tools.
For ripping the backing off - inspire woodcraft showed a tip where instead of cutting a piece of tape, then peeling it, you always leave a tail of liner hanging off the roll making it easier to separate. So, basically you use the tail to remove the lining from the tape BEFORE you cut your length off. Hope that makes sense/helps.
Really enjoy the content of your channel. You might include the FastCap 10 Million Dollar Stick in your next 5 tools under $30. Cheers
I’ll have to look that one up. Thanks for the tip!
Couldn’t you use that 1-2-3 block as a center finding device too?
yes if you had pins to use with it
I stuck a magnet on my bandsaw for the chuck. Literally never put it anywhere else.
??? Matt says zero clearance tape is thick vinyl then when talking about throwing off the cut angle he says its thin vinyl
By vinyl standards it's thick. For this purpose it is thin enough not to cause issues.
What Fox said ☝🏻
Do you think it would work in my scroll saw
When using neodymium magnets, be very VERY careful not to pinch your skin between them.
You've come a long way from the dewalt tools, see a lot of Festool in the shop now, congratulations.
You only need those things if you bought inferior machines.
🙄
It´s a problem here in the US overall. The quality of the machines here is just so much worse compared to (especially) German products. Festool is a great example, they produce cheaper stuff because of the American and Canadian market. They once produced great tools but not anymore. And if you look at DeWalt/SawStop and the rest of US made machines, they are basically overpriced. But it might be useful for hobby woodworker.
@@k-cal7148 I know the "cheap stuff" is an American thing. That´s why the majority over there build cabinets from plywood, or houses with drywalls etc. They rather do it cheap but often than expensive and for a lifetime.
DeWalt (or Black & Decker) single handedly made companies like Bosch, Makita, Mafell and Festool produce cheaper and cheaper tools at the expense of quality.
I just find it weird when they talk about how great a "Saw Stop" or "DeWalt whatever" is when it is totally overpriced and you get much better tools for the same and even less price.
Happened in woodworking segment in the last 20-30 years, happened to cars in the 60s. It´s nothing new unfortunately.
Another great bunch of reviews! Already burned up my budget!
😃❤👍
My wife hates it when I watch the videos like these because I'm always getting at least one or two things from it. But she has to admit they are all useful.
Takes out wallet and clicks to watch video

The more tool I buy the bigger the van I nead
I installed the FastCap Zero Clearance Tape. Not recommended at all.
Cool. I can afford $35.
I looked everywhere for mdf...plywood and stuff in my shop. Aint found none. All I have is wood
