If you want to see more of how things work, I did a nearly 2 hour livestream with the Rodecaster Video: ruclips.net/user/liveYEwfCpyq6nk I tried to dive a little deeper into features and functions, including how to connect a Rodecaster Pro and ATEM Mini to the RCV 👍
I live vicariously through your reviews (since I am neither rich or want to piss off the wife by buying a bunch of gear), and I just wanted to let you know that your presentation style and all-around format of your videos make it very easy to just sit back and binge Tom Buck vids! Keep it up, and thanks for all the hard work you've put in and continue to put in for these videos
Appreciate the fair and balanced review. Footage looks noticeably softer/choppier than what you can achieve with ATEM or simply recording in-camera. For anyone with an existing ATEM, there is no reason real reason to upgrade unless you absolutely want XLR's integrated into your switcher. For what it is (1080), it's too expensive in 2024 and most people who need a switcher would still be better served by an ATEM mini ISO.
Without forgetting that this doesn’t even produce a XML that can be imported to a Video Editing software. Not even metion that you can expand this to the Blackmagic Cameras and sync everything like nothing.
Absolutely brilliant that you managed to make this entire video without any fancy B roll and editing and still managed to make it interesting enough to watch the entire 30+ mins with excitement! As for the Rodecaster Video I have some mixed feelings mainly revolving around the price as it doesn’t match the expectations, for the exact same price it would make sense for it to also have the Rodecaster Duo glued to it, with large display and 4 faders along with smart pads, or have 4k, or have 8 HDMI in, or just have a much lower price for what it offers. I think the current best setup for someone like me would be a Rodecaster DUO along with an ATEM Mini Pro ISO, total price would be the same but lots of features that the Rodecaster Video provides can be added via software like OBS or Ecamm. I couldn’t justify buying the RODE Streamer X last year when they first announced it but since then it has drastically reduced in price, and they haven’t updated it much but it’s 100% worth the current price, I’m hoping that the Rodecaster Video drops in price as well to the level that it’s actually worth with all its limitations.
I just bought my DUO a few months ago and now I'm seeing this RCV and basically just launching into the world of Video and capture cards...it's a whole different language from photography and graphic design (my mainstream.) I look at this and wonder, do I purchase or do like you said...add an ATEM MP ISO and call it a day, seeing that I've been also learning how to use OBS (which by the way is such a cool program.) Does this "production suite" being released by RODE eliminate the hassle of Mixing board, switcher and software or will it be about the same work involved as the aforementioned?
This is a fantastic review of the rode caster video!!! Thank you very much! I purchased one last week and it arrived a few days ago. I have been using an atem mini pro iso but have been very unsatisfied with the audio quality which has forced me to run my audio out of my rodecaster pro II (amazing unit) and matching the audio with the iso feeds in Final Cut Pro. I plugged my rodecaster pro into the rode caster video and made a test recording and HOLY S$%T...amazing!!!!! Sound was perfect and perfectly matched with all 4 video feeds. The time saved in Final Cut Pro was a tremendous relief to me. I am a fan from day one and super happy with the purchase! Your review is awesome, as usual! Keep up the great work...(compliment coming from a member of your podcast creation class and Final Cut Pro class)!
YES! I'm so happy to hear this! The RCV is definitely a game changer, but it's a little tricky to communicate all the quality of life improvements in a video, so I think your comment nailed it!
I've been using the ATEM Mini Extreme for over two years in a live TV news production setup, and I have to say, it's incredibly powerful, especially when paired with Blackmagic Studio Cameras. The small buttons on the ATEM give you full control over the cameras through the tally system, which is a game-changer for live productions. Additionally, I use the Rodecaster Pro as my audio mixer and connect it to the ATEM Mini Extreme. However, I completely agree with your point about the poor audio amplification on the ATEM. It's something that could definitely be improved. Also i am using Streamdeck with atem extreme .. that give me a lot of extra options with atem macros Thank you for the in-depth review!
Crappy Audio has been a complaint back to BMD since the day the first Atem Mini was used out in the real world. A device that has 4 or 8 Balanced audio inputs, with decent mixing and equalization features, that can embed the mix in to a HDMI stream looping thru from Camera to an Atem Mini style switcher, would sell like crazy. All current Atem Mini owners would grab it, as would a lot of OBS and vMix users.
Super fun and informative video on this new “category” for creators. I was looking at a package on B&H that featured this unit, 3 Sony ZVE10 IIs, Rode Podmics etc for $6k+. Relatively cheap compared to what that would’ve cost some years ago. I love the way you covered this brand new device and kept my interest for the entire video. Creators like you deserve a million plus subs. Thanks Tom 👍🏾
A great video of the awesome device. It looks very complex - too complex for me at the moment - but really interesting. The standout features for me, apart from the great hardware, is the simple way to create scenes and the automatic switching of video when the audio source changes, which is a game-changer for many. Not bothered it is 1080 rather than 4K. We could add all the bells and whistles that we could possibly want then the $1200 device would cost $4000. A great job from Rode. Thanks for the time put in to explain the device to us.
Hi Tom again - excellent balanced review - when I started the Beta Program I did bring up the 4k issue, especially in 2024 - that said you explained very well looking at both sides of the choices!! Jim
Very interesting video! The best informative and honest video in RUclips. Thanks for that! The product is great, but I think we’ll have a 4k version in a year or so. And this one will be cheaper.
And to think that not long ago I mentioned to you that it would be good if Rode came up with such a beast. Another great product from the land of Oz... great review mate. I cannot wait for the deep dive videos.
I think that for a device that is coming to market in the last trimester in 2024, should be capable of handling at least 4K30. Else it seems an interesting and refreshing new concept in the video switcher world.
Thing is, even in 2024, when you read the live comments from viewers, 4K is less important then smooth vision, and good sound is even more important. Sure, 4K is real nice for local big screens and the like, but with the majority of views for streams being on mobile devices, 1080p30 is more then adequate, especially if it's drop-out free.
Great video. With ECAMM, a switcher app call ELMC, and a rodecaster pro 2 I was able to assign buttons on the rodecaster pro 2 to scenes to switch the cameras and control sound efx. Thanks for this video again.
I love it. It looks beautiful. I think I will wait until the release the smaller version. I don't need it. Not for teaching Video and Podcasting to High School students. We love our Rodecaster 2. Yeah, it is a very Professional Device. Great summary. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Great video as always Tom! I’m one of those who recently pulled the trigger on an Atem Mini Pro Extreme ISO. The extra inputs (for my workflow), DaVinci Resolve project file, and the ability to have a 4K workflow (by recording in camera and replacing the 1080 files in DaVinci) means I can sleep well at night! But wow what a product by Rode, auto camera switching!!! 🤯 and of course you get a Rodecaster Pro built in (kind of) which makes the price fair!
@@tombuck sounds logical, if you take one of the outputs from the Atem into the RCV. That would leave you 11 right? (As 1 input on the RCV would be used by the Atem)
You killed it, Amazing delivery!!! I really love the fact that out of the box, this device has soooo many features packed in and I know with updates it’ll only get better! I am so excited to Auto switching and Video ISO recording. ISO recording. The RCV is incredible for the price to me.
As always, a very informative video. I enjoyed this format of the step-back overview and then go over the specifics in subsequent videos. But, the thing that I found the most cool was the flow charts classifying the different products based on their features. To someone who is not sure what to get, that was a very easy and effective way of presenting it. You could have done a cool technological overlay on the video, yet you went with the good old paper and hand drawn. Loved it! Thank you, and I look forward to the next videos in the Rode Video series.
I wonder why I always end up when ever you post a video. I can’t even afford any of these stuff 😂 but still I watch videos that’s too fully 🤷🏻♂️😂 Good video Sir ☺️✨
Dang. Amazing video as always Tom. And super interesting product. This MAY be my alternative to E-Cam for my mobile zoom work like with hobby clubs - multi cam - multi mic type of thing. Exciting. Rode stuff is just so solid.
I agree with Tom’s opening argument about not having 4K, however……it doesn’t have 4K, or NDi or instant replay and you need a monitor. I really think k Yolobox, which has a few stability issues, is my champion. Great video Tom, thanks for creating.
Great video, thank you Tom. And not that you asked: My #1 gripe about Rode is that red button for power. It needs to be a conventional rocker switch. It's so difficult to press, with very little feedback. I had one fail. It's easier just to yank the power out. Sigh.
How the fuck does this guy always have on-point matching colors for his accessories and cables? I need his skills for interior design and keyboard keycap matching.
The microphone, headphones and 3D printed plastic ring do look kinda cheap though. I wouldn't turn up to a date with a classy woman with a bright blue plastic ring and a pink shirt, like some 12-year-old.
@@g3cd tom 3d printed both of our wedding rings since we got married during peak pandemic. the one he's wearing isn't the one he wore at the actual ceremony but still, it's super meaningful for us. i love my husband with his bright blue plastic ring and pink shirt. maybe that means i'm not classy but i'm ok with that. 💜🩵
@@g3cd Some of us classy wimmens prioritize differently than you seem to think. You be you, Tom Buck - delighted that you have a spouse that treasures this.
Thanks a million Tom for this in depth Video on my new toy. I have the Yolobox Ultra and Atem min, when I use either of them, I always use the Rodecaster pro 2 for audio to input into them. So I see the Rodecaster video as my Atem mini or Yolobobox Ultra + Rodecaster Pro 2 merged together. No more jumping over hopes looking for the "RIGHT" cable (to resolve noise issues) to bring good clean audio into a switcher. I think a fair (fairer? ) price comparison would be to include the cost of the Rodecaster Pro 2 to either the mini pro or Yolobox. Mine arrives tomorrow... can"t wait to lay my hands on it to start exploring, while waiting to upgrade to the 4K version with Rode releases it.
@@TobiasHuch Doesn’t have File Project as well like the Atem Pro Iso and that is bad. For people who doing streaming is not so bad but for me or podcast creator is a No Go maybe in the future if they add such things like 4K and project file but for now i will buy the Atem Mini pro Iso
Ok, no 4k, can’t record the camera sources as separate files, complicated to use? I’m would just stick with the black magic ATEM pro iso for half the money or get the ISO extreme which has twice the inputs for the same money. What was Rhode thinking when designing this product.
tbf, the Atem is only really focused on video capture and has no internal recording capabilitiesat all. If you add the price of one of rode's interfaces to the Atem, since that's part of the selling point of the rodecaster video (built-in rode interface), do you think it could be a fair price?
@@Goodmanperson55 The ATEM does have internal audio recording, I use it all the time. It has 2 mic inputs just like this Rode unit. Now, the preamps may not be as good thats true but I used them all the time and the audio I record is totally fine. Seeing as Rode put out a product called "Rodecaster Video" it should be way more focused on the video side in year 2024. to not have 4k capability, to not have the ISO recording and only have 4 HDMI inputs? $1200 is a very high price for that. Even the little ridiclous screen is laughable. The ATEM Mini Pro ISO is only $500 and that prodiuct is at least 5-6 years old. Rode puts out a brand new product and it has almost the same features as a product thats 5 years old and they want over 2 times the price. Personlly I think it is a huge miss for Rode, just my opinion
The product is great, but the problem is price at this point to be able to fully enter in the market. But it will be very interesting to have at some point.
@@Goodmanperson55rodecaster duo + atem mini pro combo are a lot cheaper than this one if you mean that. ¿? And probably people interesting in this one already have one of those. Don’t get me wrong. I really like what Rode have done here and I think is really needed, I like this rode video mixer, but not sure for that price.
Great overview. I was hoping for a 2 HDMI streamer x switcher. I think a 2 cam switcher is missing in the Atem lineup and that would've been a good spot for Rode to slide into.
The Roland VR 1HD is pretty similar to this, has faders for audio and can also auto switch between cameras based on audio input.. Could be a nice option too..
Yeah Roland gear is great and they've been making video mixers for ages! Personally I would still lean towards the RCV for all of the added features like scenes/media/USB inputs/Etc, but I love that hte Roland has some physical audio controls.
For the price point being nearly the same cost as an Atem ISO Extreme as someone that has being using Atems for years now, I think it comes down to do you need it for personal or small production use or for a large production event use. It’s a great all in one solution for a 2 to 3 person podcast or streamer setup since the audio processing is built in. But if you’re willing to tinker you can get everything the rode has and much more. So the question becomes what’s more important to you? Ease of use or functionality. For context I run a full production company off the atem extreme iso. I do everything from podcasts to live multicam events for churches and galas.
Very well done review, Tom! I really like everything about it, except I can't get over the fact that it's limited to 1080p. I'm hoping the Mark II ends up being 4K. We have a plan for a multi cam setup that will be utilizing the Elgato Cam Link Pro. Only time will tell how it works out. It was great meeting you at the B&H event yesterday! - Ryan
Thank you! The 4K thing is tricky (and I say this as someone who does want it). Pricing out 4K switchers, they don't really even start anywhere under $3K, and that's just for a basic switcher (no high end audio, scenes, graphics, etc). What I'm learning is that it's not a linear curve of complexity when adding 4K (I assumed it's just...4 times as much as 1080 🤷🏻♂️ ), but it's an exponential curve that gets very intense very quickly. Who knows where things will go in the future though, either with updates or with different models. One very cool thing about this is that Rode developed all of the architecture "in house" and now that they have a platform built, I'm thinking it could be simpler to scale up or down with other products.
@tombuck tom, I'm unsure how large the market is for 4k switchers and for the more capable rodemater video . But no one would buy a less than 4k tv, 4k monitors which last 8 to 12 years are, I suggest, worth a long term buy. But I expect mackie, yamaha, might easily out engineer rode if sales volume existed. Im retired and hate watching anything in 1080p. I hope rode figures out effective, well priced 4k. Gary
My wife and I are starting our podcast up. Should I get rid of my ride caster pro 2 and atem I have? To buy this? I have 3 camera setup as well as I’ve been paying Ecamm live.
Does audio channels have effects? Can you (multiband) sidechain-duck, say a music mix channel with another channel, say a mic? (I’m a DJ and I stream from my studio and I’m occasionally yapping on top of the music, reacting to questions on the Twitch chat.)
The thing the ATEM series still stands out with is their ability to build pre-switched timeline assemblies. That's something which can save a LOT of billable compared to rebuilding and switching timelines from source footage and audio files. The 'advanced graphics' can certainly be done using an ATEM, but are made in resolve (where you also have more control), then fed to your streaming suite as scenes/transitions/stingers etc. you can trigger. The audio capabilities of the Mini series /does/ need work (though the broadcast series of ATEM switchers run proper 3pin XLR in) so while I don't see us moving system any time soon (unless blackmagic open up the timeline building to third parties), this is a good push for BMD to rethink their context in the non-broadcast market and maybe up their feature set on the minis :)
Yeah, the prebuilt timeline thing is such a great feature! I'm sure the RCV will be able to export .xml files at some point which would be nice, but especially for Resolve users it still might not be as fully featured.
Now that you mentioned that both Røde and ATEM (or Blackmagic Design) are from Australia, I would like to add that Vmix is also Australian. It is like there is a whole cluster of camera related RUclips stars in Canada: Matti, Peter, Gerald Undone, Kevin of camera conspiracies :) Probably there is something in the water
Yea! I’ve been seeing a bunch of Roland devices hitting the shoppes and the tubeosphere. Those and this new Røde piece make an interestingly complex market of options😅
Great video Tom! I definitely think this is an interesting avenue for RØDE to take, and agree with you in regards to 4K, however I do still understand why they stuck with 1080 for the most part. I think while it's all well and good to have a disclaimer, it is similar to terms and conditions... Do you really read them in full? Or do you skim over them briefly and then hit 'ok'? In addition, I absolutely love the sound of the NT1 on your voice! The low end is perfect!!
For the auto-switching based on voice Roland has had this for a long time like on the Roland VR-1HD. This is a neat little piece of kit though! Thanks for the review!
Hey Tom, excellent review. Appreciate how detailed it was and your commitment to covering all aspects of the device. I did notice your lip sync was off for the majority of the video, and was curious if Rode suggested the 7 frames to adjust audio sync or if that was the best option you could find? I produce a multi-cam video podcast, and we use an ATEM + Zoom Podtrak board to record our shows. We’ve considered upgrading our equipment which is why I watched your review. I don’t think this has the versatility we’re looking for, but again, great video!
If anything, I just chose the wrong setting (user error is very real!). I'm curious though because I edited/watched/rewatched the video many times (as did my wife) and we didn't notice anything. Several people have mentioned it though, so obviously there's something there, but I just don't know. Either way, if there's a sync issue I can confidently say it's user error. 😬
This just in,,,, The release of the Rodecaster Video PRO 2! featuring 4k with stunning 256 grayscale black and white ONLY,..... AND full 1 bit mono audio!
I've been saving for an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. This is the first bit of kit I've seen that's made me reconsider that - primarily because of the audio interface unless it has horrible latency. It would give me what I'm looking at the Extreme for *and* get rid of the need for a separate audio interface.
Hope you're able to get the info you need! Check the pinned comment for al ink to a stream I did earlier today where I tried to dive a little deeper into it.
@@tombuck It sure looks powerful but it’s not for me at the moment. I sometimes produce livestreams with 3-5 speakers so I need that many XLR inputs. For now I’ll stick with an analog audio mixer and an Atem Mini.
Did anyone else notice stuttering or frame drops around 12 minutes in? Is it just YT or my internet connection? It seems like the video was just a little rough around then. The image quality is great, and it sounds great, just want to check if anyone else noticed any stuttering. Thanks for the hard work Tom, love your work.
My thoughts (and I sweat I have no inside info here) are that they may enable some sort of 4K in the future if- and only if- they can make it reliable. I sure hope there's a way, but that's so far beyond my pay grade I have no idea.
@@tombuck Well I must commend them for their effort this is quite the product. If anything maybe we can expect a Rodecastor Video Pro👀 with 4K enabled and ISO recordings. This will definitely be a solidaddition for my content creation workflow as a one man band. I watched the BHphoto Live with Zeph and Cat. Good to know i can connect it to my RCP 2
I have an ATEM Mini ISO Pro and I find it essential to a) see at a glance what's recording and what's not b) have a button for everything (and I'm using 80% of them). I also had problems finding an SSD that was capable of recording 4x 1080p in realtime. So with 6 channels in the Rode, you could never record 4K, it's an SSD limitation.
Thank you for this. Curious about your thoughts on this.... I am wanting a good portable video podcast studio option. I was going to use 2 of the Podmics and 2 of the USB Podmics. Will that work well, do you think? It seems to me the best options due to the convenience of having 1 device for video and audio. I will already have an entire suitcase full of lighting, stands, microphones, cables, etc.... It would be nice to not have 2 separate devices for audio and video switching. Thoughts?
Great walkthrough and the main no-no's for me are 1080 and the device not showing as "ISO - video" 4 HDMI sources in the computer. I'd pay 2-3K for all in one solution with 4K on all inputs, 4 audio ins and all the usual Røde processing. Still, I don't need it because I can achieve this with the current, albeit several devices connected - setup. The advantage of this all in one device would be portability and the client work where 1080 is totally OK. I'll keep my attention on more demo videos about the Rødecaster Video because I want to check how advanced picturein picture can be... All in all, you presented so well the main features and the comparizons with Atem, Yolo.. were great. I love that you used hand drawn flowcharts 🙂
Even with my desire for 4K, the cheapest 4K switcher that’s not a simple rack router is $5k+ without most of the other functionality, so I can understand why they couldn’t do it here.
Hey Tom Really enjoyed your video! The Roadcaster looks awesome, but it would be even more amazing if it supported 4K. You mentioned something about audio quality; how does the setup compare to a Duet 3? Right now, I’m using an ATEM Mini alongside a Duet 3 and an Earthworks Ethos mic. Despite that, I often lean towards Ecamm for my recordings because of its 4K capability. For cameras, I use one Sony A7IV with a 24mm GM lens, plus two Insta360 Links. I was thinking that if the Roadcaster could offer better audio quality than what I’m getting with the Duet 3, it might be worth making the switch. Any insights or thoughts on things to consider would be super helpful! Also, I’ll definitely use your referral link when and if I decide to place an order. Thanks a bunch for all your great content. Keep it up!
atem iso can output BM project file that can be opened in resolve for changes to cuts (too early or late), that is a plus. that said, good to hear it can do ISO recording too(and even audio), hope to see you compare this workflow for post production.
Connecting it to a Rodecaster Pro 2 and having a uniform system is handy, but it took me so long to perfectly setup my Atem Mini Pro Iso + Rodecaster Pro 2 setup that I just don't want to disturb my workflow. Maybe sometime in the future.
For those of us who already have a Rodecaster Pro 1 or 2, it would be nice if this was just a video device with one 1/4" stereo input for audio from the RCP, like the ATEM does. One device for audio. One device for video. Plus it could be much less expensive for video only.
I do a lot of live presentations that involve app demos + slides. Today I use OBS+StreamDeck, but I'd much prefer a hardware solution. I'm trying to wrap my brain around how I would export part of my desktop (or just part of my desktop) > Codecaster Video as an input source in addition to my slides & camera. Camera(s) are obvious with te RCV, but... the screencast portion... Not sure if this is possible, but thoughts on how you'd send just a portion of your desktop > RCV? Maybe a second HDMI output that mirrors your desktop, then create a scene on the RCV that crops to just that part of the desktop that contains the demo?
If you're looking specifically for online presenting workflows with the RCV, there's no better resource than Cat Mulvihill! ruclips.net/video/A9l_rMFt6_8/видео.htmlsi=7IoIcn403XN3PNA6 She has several videos that focus specifically on this topic.
@@tombuck 100% she's a friend, but helped me out recently & knew she was tied up this week so I didn't want to nag her just yet... but I'll definitely reach out to her. Thanks! FWIW... I ordered a RCV today to try it out. I've got a 49" wide screen so my plan is to setup two set 1920x1080 areas (one for slides, one for the screencast demo) and have a 2nd HDMI cable from the computer > input on RCV. Based on both your & @cat's videos, I should be able to take that input and create scenes that crop the HDMI input feed so I can have a "slides" and "demos" scene reusing the same input. In theory, it should work, so I just need to test it... but love it as an option! Thanks... and great series covering the RCV. Cards on the table: this is how i was introduced to you (somehow I was living under a rock and wasn't aware of your channel before the Rode event... but following Cat in going to that event, I got a new channel I sub'd to!) 🙌
i currently use streamyard and i do interviews through video link, would this be worth getting? i would also probably try to use it for a live broadcast with multiple cameras for events
There's currently no interview options, so it wouldn't be able to replace Streamyard for that. For multiple cameras and great audio though, it's definitely a solid option!
Good video, the sync between audio and video is a little off though. Not sure if thats the rodecaster videos fault or your video editing software? or youtube perhaps?
The concept of this product looks kinda cool... I love that fact that I can use the equipment that's just lying around (such as webcams, perhaps even action cams with type c connection...) However, within this video - on multiple occasions I saw fps drops, lag and some strange ghosting and motion blur, which wasn't consistent, but rather appears from time to time. Curious if this was due to: - Software and compatibility issues on your end - Software on Rodes end (easily fixable with firmware update I guess) - Hardware issues? Loved the vid btw!

Also i am using Streamdeck with atem extreme .. that give me a lot of extra options with atem macros
Thank you for the in-depth review!
It's like the ATEM switcher combined with the Rodecaster. wow plus all the built in scenes and graphics. this is a game- changer.
YES! It's really quite a bit of kit.
Please make a class for this. Your classes rock!!
I have A LOT to learn but I’ll be doing a bunch of shorter videos on specific features and I can hopefully get those organized into a nice playlist 👍
I like your argument on the 4k feature.
The first feature I searched for was if it was 4k✅
Bro, I really enjoyed this video and just to let you know that you not my vote for the Rode Creator of the Year. Good Luck and keep the Great work!!
Hi Tom - I love your content!! I was a Beta Tester for this product and love it. I did view the presentation on B&H - great job!!
Excited to see how you’re using it!
I tried to tactfully imply that it might be worth waiting a bit 😁
You're such a great presenter (and human) and expert and and and ...
Thanks for your expertise!
Thank you for these really kind words 🥹
Gotta love everything Ecamm can do 😎
Thanks Tom, confirmed what I thought 👍 That auto switcher was pretty sweet though!
It’s a pretty awesome tool’
I love your videos bro, you certainly know how to talk on a presentation like this
Thank you! Finally a lifetime of nerding out about this stuff comes in handy! 😅
I’ve heard you can connect an ATEM to the RCV so I’m going to try that with my extreme for 12 sources 😁
@@tombuck sounds logical, if you take one of the outputs from the Atem into the RCV. That would leave you 11 right? (As 1 input on the RCV would be used by the Atem)
Still plenty!!! 🤣
I just wish it had at least one 4K input! Nonetheless, very impressive tech.
I wonder why I always end up when ever you post a video. I can’t even afford any of these stuff 😂 but still I watch videos that’s too fully 🤷🏻♂️😂 Good video Sir ☺️✨
Haha I appreciate the support! 😁
Great colorful video. This looks similar to the YOLOLIV...
@@LePubPattaya Yolobox isn't the one. It is not a good switcher.
Tom coming through with the goods once again. Hi from Down Under. ❤
Hi from...up above? 😁
Hold up!? I got something new coming from them! Hopefully it’s this. Great video🙌
Great video, thank you Tom. And not that you asked: My #1 gripe about Rode is that red button for power. It needs to be a conventional rocker switch. It's so difficult to press, with very little feedback. I had one fail. It's easier just to yank the power out. Sigh.
Finally met you in person at B&H. Thanks for the studio inspiration 😅
So glad you got to be there! Seriously made my day to see the studio pics 🙏
Thank you for this video. It really helped to contextualize this device. I was wondering how to fit in. I want it but now I know I don’t need it. Yet
Contextualization was my main goal, so I'm really happy to hear this!
Your reviews are always so good. Also such a neat piece of kit.
Awesome Video!! I have one on my desk right now! Excited to finally use it without hiding it on camera LOL
How the fuck does this guy always have on-point matching colors for his accessories and cables? I need his skills for interior design and keyboard keycap matching.
It's all RODE gear, they use the same colours for everything.
Hope you enjoy it! And don’t let the simple design fool you- functionally there’s a full Rodecaster inside it!
Too bad. With 4K, it would be the perfect device, but as it is, I'll stick with my BlackmagicDesign PCI card with 4x 4K60.
Ahh so this is what you hinted at when I asked about auto switching on the atem!!
@@Goodmanperson55That combo is cheaper than this one
This is something that can compete with Roland's VR4HD. Thanks for the reciew. Can't wait to see more A/V Switchers with Rode.
Very excited to see where things go down the rode from here.
Great overview. I was hoping for a 2 HDMI streamer x switcher. I think a 2 cam switcher is missing in the Atem lineup and that would've been a good spot for Rode to slide into.
Excellent walkthrough! Ps: Is audio and video a lille out of sync?
@@janusdk Yes, also here.
@@anderspuck Perhaps it is a specific Danish problem. After all, we are closer to Kaliningrad than Australia.
+ a bit off sync. Not sure whether the device and assigned delay is the cause?
Always enjoy your videos. Great job. Lip sync is soft.
Wow this is crazy Tom...it is so great I had to check if it's not April 1...almost too good to be true!
Very colorful camera setup.
Thank you!
Gary
Damn. I fucking love the colors on your setup.
My wife and I are starting our podcast up. Should I get rid of my ride caster pro 2 and atem I have? To buy this? I have 3 camera setup as well as I’ve been paying Ecamm live.
Thank you for your review. I think I understand the product much better now.
I knew you had this already! ❤
😬
@@tombuckI mean, it’s likely worth it for the auto switching …
Of course if this is successful, there will likely be a Rodecaster Video Pro 4k next year. 👍
Does audio channels have effects? Can you (multiband) sidechain-duck, say a music mix channel with another channel, say a mic? (I’m a DJ and I stream from my studio and I’m occasionally yapping on top of the music, reacting to questions on the Twitch chat.)
They should add eyetracking so that You could automatically switch to the camera you are looking at while using the same mic. They would be awesome!
I'm sure the RCV will be able to export .xml files at some point which would be nice, but especially for Resolve users it still might not be as fully featured.
the only video I needed to see on this.
Now that you mentioned that both Røde and ATEM (or Blackmagic Design) are from Australia, I would like to add that Vmix is also Australian. It is like there is a whole cluster of camera related RUclips stars in Canada: Matti, Peter, Gerald Undone, Kevin of camera conspiracies :)
Probably there is something in the water
if this was 4k compatible id buy it straight away, 1080p is a bit disappointing. But what a fantastic product with great features.
The auto switching is pretty slick. I am also excited about playing back video without an external player.
Auto switching is done perfectly by Final Cut Pro or Davinci Resolve, no Hardware needed

@@ScottBalkumindeed sorry
The NT1 is so good! Always a fun one to use. 😁
That auto switch is awesome if you have multiple people on a podcast and no producer. Doing what you would have to do in post with ISO.
This just in,,,, The release of the Rodecaster Video PRO 2! featuring 4k with stunning 256 grayscale black and white ONLY,..... AND full 1 bit mono audio!
Tom, I hung with you half way but the vibe I get is that you’re not impressed. How are they justifying the high cost? And you are correct. 4K or bust!
Great review. Thanks, Tom!
Fantastic video. Yolobox Extreme has 8x HDMI inputs….all 4K.
Hey Tom, I'm curious about whether this is good for the work I do, so when I searched RUclips and saw your name, I came here first!
Tom, this is excellent.. especially since I am on the verge buying an ATEM Mini.. so hoping this might be an option.
Mr. Rodecaster does a review...LOL WOW other than the Camera - Rode, cables, mic, stand... oh wow I have that same display LOL
I love this. It’s like the rodecaster and atem had a baby
Wow! This is awesoem! I am bummed about the 4K though. Please Rode, can we get that enabled!
Great presentation! Im sure the 2nd version will be better, this seems to be more of hybrid of a video switcher and mixer or a high power stream deck.
I will switch simply for the video follow audio function... I SO wish the Atem had that!
Thoughts?
Great video, as usual. There is a delay on your lips not being in sync with the audio.
Hey Tom
Really enjoyed your video!
@@michaelvosbein7524 and maybe even higher resolution compatible.
If you're looking specifically for online presenting workflows with the RCV, there's no better resource than Cat Mulvihill! ruclips.net/video/A9l_rMFt6_8/видео.htmlsi=7IoIcn403XN3PNA6

Cards on the table: this is how i was introduced to you (somehow I was living under a rock and wasn't aware of your channel before the Rode event... but following Cat in going to that event, I got a new channel I sub'd to!) 🙌
Nice to see Rode colors are now also on HDMI cables
Yes! I love them and want to get more 😁
i currently use streamyard and i do interviews through video link, would this be worth getting? i would also probably try to use it for a live broadcast with multiple cameras for events
There's currently no interview options, so it wouldn't be able to replace Streamyard for that. For multiple cameras and great audio though, it's definitely a solid option!
@tombuck would wireless work for live multi camera coverage say a boxing match work
Where did you get those HDMI cables?
They look like Rode hdmi cables.
Great review Tom! Will this replace ecamm for you then?
I will use both, sometimes separately and sometimes together. More tools in the tool box!
Good video, the sync between audio and video is a little off though. Not sure if thats the rodecaster videos fault or your video editing software? or youtube perhaps?
Digging around still, but can the Rodecaster Video Stream and record ISO at the same time? I know that's only available in the EXTREME atem versions
Yes 👍
It's nice to see a real competitor to Blackmagic and Roland!
The concept of this product looks kinda cool... I love that fact that I can use the equipment that's just lying around (such as webcams, perhaps even action cams with type c connection...)
However, within this video - on multiple occasions I saw fps drops, lag and some strange ghosting and motion blur, which wasn't consistent, but rather appears from time to time.
Curious if this was due to:
- Software and compatibility issues on your end
- Software on Rodes end (easily fixable with firmware update I guess)
- Hardware issues?
Loved the vid btw!
might have missed it, but I'm assuming with 2 monitors or a split screen, can you have a preview and program monitor?
Great review! Any idea if Rode will be supporting Bitfocus Companion?
