oh man... the life, excitement, and energy that flows out of the LCT 240 pro. I love this mic in my lineup for videos. Earthworks Ethos, RE20, and LCT 240 Pro are easily in my top 5 mics for the different types of energy they bring to a voice. The Rodecaster video is out of my reach at that price when I cant get myself to stop buying mics!
Yeah, that's a super strong mic lineup! The 240 is just so tough to beat. I do slightly prefer the sound of the 440, but the price of the 240 just makes it so accessible that I love using it because it's was to recommend to just about anyone!
Great video as always Tom - love the walkthroughs. Just one thought. …. 4k related. Totally understand that out of the box/by design that it doesn’t support 4k. However, from what I understand about the Atem Mini Pro ISO, it can output a Da Vinci resolve project. In Post, it would be possible to sync up with 4k footage from SSDs previously attached to cameras, making it possible to output a 4k render. In other words, the footage recorded via the Rode unit would essentially be a proxy file (or series of files). I would really like that capability with the Rode unit …. If it ever does, that would be awesome.
That's an interesting workaround idea! Right now there's no .xml type options, so I don't think so, but I'm definitely curious if that's something that could be added down the line!

I went with the YoloBox Ultra for my needs but for some people an ATEM like switch I think the best bang for the buck is the GOStream (I prefer the duet) as it has SDI and HDMI port but if you don't need SDI then the regular one is a great price) The RCV will be good, but only if you DON'T have an audio interface already!
Great flyover video! The remote piece is helpful, if as the remote TD, we could adjust settings for local setup that helps. I also like to see Rode took the same path on streaming for VBR vs CBR as BMD does for ATEM Mini. I know, just went full techno mode. CBR is key for streaming, and then if Rode could jump on the SRT bandwagon, that could open up some possibilities. Lots of ideas😊
I'm VERY curious how far they'll be able to push things with future firmware updates. It seems like there's enough power under the hood to handle quite a bit!

I've changed the cables (and I am using balanced cables), I've changed the speakers and the same issue persists. I've reached out to Rode support but was hoping someone else might have had the same issue and had a solution for me. I have also activated the line out mode inside Rode Central
I would have ordered my copy of the device already but I am waiting for Rode to say it is possible for to route the sources on HDMI outputs in future updates.
Hey Tom, I was wondering if you could make a video (or should I say an update video) about sound treatment for your office. In your shot it always looks like there is a bunch of reflective surfaces like screens and picture frames, but your audio doesn't have any noticable reverb, even with microphones that are known to do a worse job at room rejection
There’s really not much. I recently did a studio tour video where you can see it, but I only have two acoustic panels (which do help a lot). I think the room being carpeted makes a big difference, and even though there are lots of flat surfaces, the fact that there’s quite a bit of stuff at different angles and things I think helps cut down on reverb too.
Rode needs to add the ability to save microphone pre-sets like the RCPII. Also, audio monitoring via Rode Central so a producer can switch cameras and hear the audio remotely!
Is there a work around to monitor the audio remotely? Because fair enough we can switch but if I’m not in the same room I can’t hear any audio to know when to switch.

Yes, you can. Connect a USB-C (preferably the one that came with the device - I have tested other high speed cables and they all work for me) from USB2 on the RCP2 or DUO to the USB4 or 5 on the Rodecaster video. I have done this with my RCP2. So I essentially have 6 combo inputs to the Rodecaster Video. Great feature. Love it. Thanks Tom for these great vis. I want to be just like you when I grow up. 🤣😂😅

With OBS i have plug ins like going live simultaneously from all platforms, countdown timers, all chats funneled to program feed, luts, ect. Im assuming i cannot use these plug ins on scenes built in the Rode software. Can the scene switching on the RCV control the scene switching in OBS? I have so many questions before i buy

Does it have the option to put a delay on the audio inputs as on the ATEM mini family? Eved better if it had the option to delay video sources. The thing is that the HDMI outputs from my cameras have about 3 frames (on 30fps) of delay compared to the audio inputs and this is a common issue.
All those devices with SW like abstractions are absolutely not practical for realtime live production when you need all the physical interfaces at first glance. This is a super consumer device

I am trying to integrate different solutions. The last one is the black magic Atem mini Pro together with the OBS to cover the lacks of both. Blackmagic Atem mini Pro is suffering from the actual audio levels and advanced realtime video editing options. It is impossible to fine-tune any SW solutions while you are on the stream at least you have a dedicated person. I am trying to optimise the ATEM mini Pro with StreamDeck and OBS with StreamDeck. Atem gives you a major video and HW stability and obs covers the advanced scenes, noise reduction and EQ and the StreamDeck operation simplification. But it requires some very serious work on the fine-tuning and setups. Multiplexed SW interfaces aren't usable in livestream

Currently there’s nothing like that, but it’s been asked about a lot and I’d love for them to incorporate it into a future update somehow.

Tom do you keep every video you’ve made or do delete them after some time so you don’t have a mountain of external hard drives?
We have a NAS that everything gets stored on. I don’t keep the actual Final Cut timelines, but do keep all of the raw footage and stuff.
How does this program interface with OBS? I would still need to go live through OBS.
You can go live directly from the RCV, or you can select it as a video source in OBS just like any webcam/switcher/etc. 👍

It has the ability to set a frame delay for everything, but not individual sources
