My goodness ... this is like good cheesecake. Listen to 5:55 ... this would have sounded like banging with most pianists. With Alicia ... there's such a richness. She clearly understands dynamics like no other pianist. And her Spanish roots DEFINITELY give her an edge with melodies of this sort. Southern Spain, known for their flamenco melodies is right along these lines. And he plays it with the right amount of delay ... she knows when to draw out the melody and when to fly forward. She's exquisite. A true jewel.

She was the grand Spanish lady of the piano in every sense, great refinement in her playing and flawless technique in spite of her small hands!!!!!!!!!!!

Never does she sacrifice tone quality, musicality, or technique for theatrics. One of the most musically fulfilling interpretations of this piece I have heard.

Alicia superior como siempre. Nunca tendrá el merecido y suficiente reconocimiento por parte de todo el mundo, aunque pensándolo bien, tampoco lo necesita. Qué grande eres.

The crispy and agile way of clear touch on the notes is my favorite for de Larrocha

I intend to listen to EVERY upload on this channel, starting with the earliest uploads, and working towards the present time. I'm so thrilled to have found a You Tube channel devoted to this wonderful lady. This piece makes me homesick for Hungary...and I was born in England. She's so good I would think SHE was born in Hungary, not Spain.

Fabulous! Technically flawless; although i miss her firm basses, which she displayed in so many other works. Maybe it's the quality of this old recording from 1964. Probably she would have played it differently in later years. But still it is unbeliev
    able how AdL plays Liszt.

Always elegant, musical, never a show-off, she was perfect. For me, the greatest interpreters of music are women; I find that women display an understanding of phrasing and a sensitivity to the feelings of the music that few men achieve. De Larrocha and Guiomar Novaes are my two favorites, and their interpretations are the ones I always return to. They both play the most virtuosic passages with such unostentatious elegance that you are never aware of the difficulty, but only hear the music.

Shahrdad I agree loudly! The music itself, not the ego is what counts!

Shahrdad ...and, oh yes I forgot to mention, she cares about every note, takes her time. The effect is the most carefull pianist.

Shahrdad something that all those pianistic pianists of these days should learn: take your time and you will express yourself nevertheless.
