  • Learn how to sew a DIY cell phone purse fast and see how easy it is to sew in a zipper with your home sewing machine and the Creative Feet, invented by Clare Rowley. The Pearls & Piping foot holds your zipper in place so you can sew it in perfectly! The Sequins & Ribbon foot holds the sequins in place and the Satinedge foot, also known as the Magic foot guides you for a perfect 1/4" seam!

    Measurements
    The size is determined in width and length by the size of your cell phone. I used the following for my Samsung 7 Smartphone.
    Front panel 5 in wide by 7 in long
    Back panel that wraps to front: 5 in wide by 11.5 in long and the fold is 2 inches from the zipper.

    I love the looks of this bag and want to make one. I am not sure what sixe to cut my fabric? It looks like one side is longer than other to allow for flap. Can you give me measurements for both pieces? Thank you.

    • @clare-rowley
      @clare-rowley  8 лет назад +1

      I used 8"x10" sections, however it is okay to make yours narrower if you like.

    Come across your tutorial today. What size zipper are you using? Is there a way to put a small inside pocket to hold the DL & a credit card too?

    • @clare-rowley
      @clare-rowley  8 лет назад +1

      I used a 9 inch zipper and sure, a pocket could be added... perhaps a should teach one :)

    do you have video on size to cut material?

    • @clare-rowley
      @clare-rowley  7 лет назад

      No, I was thinking of filming another version of this and releasing the pattern that I'm making for both styles. Until then, Cut 1- 8.5 " for the lower portion of the front of the purse; below the zipper.
      The back piece should measure longer than you cell phone with an added 4" for the flap.

    • @ericaakerblom3862

      I have read all the questions about the size and I still don't get it. So, if i'm right one piece is 8.5 inches long, and the other is 4 inches longer PLUS more-in addition to the 4 inches? You didn't mention the width right? Thanks! I got a tie dyed large scarf at a thrift shop Im thinking of using..also what interfacing did you use?

    So would this be correct?
    bottom piece 8x10 (10 is length-8.5 is width(Even though you have said 8 not 8.5 in comments)
    top piece 12x10?
    Zipper 9 inches
    Thanks!

    • @clare-rowley
      @clare-rowley  7 лет назад

      8.5"x6" Front below zipper - Length and width determined by size of cell phone.
      The larger piece is the back and it wraps around and becomes also the flap. 6"x12"
      This will be my next pattern so I can end all this frustration - sorry for forgetting to post the sizes! :)

    • @crochethappy3786
      @crochethappy3786 7 лет назад

      OK you have to be careful though to get that zipper in the right place with that flap.

    How do you fuse the fabric together without fraying I'm not sure what you mean? Thanks

    • @clare-rowley
      @clare-rowley  7 лет назад +1

      When you fuse the fabrics together using a fusible webbing, the fabric won't fray even if washed because it locks the bias permanently by fusing the fabric together.

    What is the name of the foot you are using please

    • @clare-rowley
      @clare-rowley  7 лет назад

      It is my Creative Feet Brand Pearls & Piping foot and it fits all sewing machines. All you need is a zigzag stitch to use it and you can find it here: www.creativefeet.com/products/feet

  • @crochethappy3786

    I am not sure that zipper is needed if the flap is snapped closed.

      It's just how I made it - so it would be very secure and you are welcome to not insert one if you don't want to :)

    i been sewing for many years. first you need to talk more on size of fabric need for
    the cell phone, also
    your hands was in the way not really showing what your doing. and you flip things
    too fast. sometimes i feel camera should have been on the other side..
    i like the more flat less fabric seams. The showing of buttons to show on
    wasn't very visible. I do believe you have done a good job for ideas, and a
    nicer bag which i first learned..
    thank you for sharing

      babe bunyan This was an earlier video, the camera angles have changed and yes, the measurements should have been discussed more, read more comments for those and know I plan to release a pattern to help. Thank you for your input, I'm always working on improving to help you all reach your sewing goals. :)
