That fluid looks so much like engine oil remember a bud of mine mistook that CVT fluid for engine oil and whoops there that fluid went down the hatch and came back with shift issues and how I found out it was his cuz he was the last to do it and I New it was not CVT fluid by the smell but luckily I didn’t have to change out the tranny just in the Nick of time and I saved it. I just did this on my 2018 Accord Sport (with 38K miles) last month. I didn't bother with the overflow bolt, just poured 3.8 qts in and called it good.
What if you can smell fresh cvt fluid in the vents? Zero spills, zero leaks. Only when going from P to R to D? Clean new fluid. Car seems to have poor acceleration, and delayed "shifting" . Would it be safe to assume its low on fluid?
And you get a bing bong, and you get a bing bong. Also, are all Honda's CVT transmissions the same for all models and what is the difference between the red trans fluid and this one since it looks more like motor oil?
What about the CVT transmission filters? There are 2 filters that need to be changed; one in the oil pan and a smaller filter near the fill hole. Neglecting these filters will cause the tranny to fail around 100,000 miles. CVT trans are junk. But if you properly maintain them, you might get a few more miles out of them.
This is complete nonsense regarding the filters. They aren’t a maintenance item per Honda. And plenty of 200k+ cvts out there with zero issues. Change the fluid per the maintenance minder and the filters will be fine.
Yea when we have service intervals done on time here we don’t bother with them considering the fluid looked like that but if it came with over 100k miles and then I would consider but here at Honda they have never been an issue as long as the fluid is kept every service interval. Happy 🔧

The red trans fluid is atf while this one is hcf which is for cvt
