- Hi guys! This is a first service for this new car. It's a 2022 Honda Civic with a 2.0L engine, the 1.5L is very similar just minor different and different engine oil capacity. You'll find the engine capacity for both engine size in the video.
ENGINE OIL TYPE 0W20
TOOLS NEEDED are listed below.
17mm socket
Ratchet
#3 screwdriver
Screwdriver Flat head
Oil filter wrench
Oil Funnel
Rags
Oil drain pan
Hydraulic jack to lift the car and jackstand
Very detailed, step by step, A+ video
Much appreciated for your positive feedback sir. Thank you
It was videos like this that encouraged me to do my very first oil change at home years ago.
👌
Very comprehensive video. A lot of panel screws to remove. At least everything is easily accessible once panel is removed.
Great video bud. I'm doing my first oil change tomorrow on my 2022 Civic Sport. Appreciate!
Awesome 👌 Cheerz
I always think that Honda engineers know that owners like to work on their cars, and I feel that they design their products with the DIY'er in mind. One of the last few companies to keep things relatively simple.
I would absolutely agree with that. Thanks for commenting.🔥
Are you implying we're cheap frugal bastards?? 😂😂
@rickyanthonyhe means I’m general, theirs is more open space on Honda Vehicles which makes it easier to access certain parts, other cars like bmws have the engine crammed up and harder to work on
Thank bro … I feel I don’t have to watch any other vids I can follow step by step … save me $170
First car, first oil change
Thanks for the help!
Always my pleasure. 🙏
I thought new cars didn't have oil (and tranny) dipsticks anymore, seems like Honda still puts them in their cars... Awesome, I like to keep tabs on my oil
and change my own oil too. Thanks for posting this !!
😂 yeah theyre kinda behind everyone else
@@Cargorage actually I like it that way. Honda still has the oil dipstick, but not for the transmission. 🤨
@@carlovanrijk4039 🙁 yeah, cvt transmission sucks
Honestly I love my 2022 Civic Sport although very disappointed with the speedometer look I think last gen was a lot better interior wise
you can change the look of the speedometer on 2022, just fyi 🙂🙂
Not on the sport
Ohh i thought it was on all trim, i guess wrong then.
@@Cargorage yea for some reason they made half the Speedo digital on the sport
would be much easier if you didn't have to remove that skid plate. i get why it's there, but those things are super annoying to me. :) great video!
Thank you 🙏
Awesome video! would it matter if I use the A02 instead of the A01?
Yoo Honda is the last company still using canister oil filter!!!! Old school. If one day my corolla 98 break I will go to new CRV.
Yeah, there are other few car makes out there that uses can oil filter. Like nissan
I just paid like $65 for an oil change that will be the last time after watching this video 😊 thank you sir
My pleasure to help.
I never had a honda before Now I have 2022 honda civic sport what does a full dipstick look like the oil is suppose to be between the two dots right and do I check the oil hot or cold?
The level should be at the top dot to be full, which is 3.5L. Check the level after you start the car.
Hot or cold, you can check the level. Of course if the car has been sitting for a long time then you check the level, the level is going to be slightly higher. And that's normal.
Hey thank you for the reply
Great video
my 4months old 2022 honda civic already has a warning that i should change my oil already even though my mileage is only around 4k km. is that normal?
Hello
Yes thats normal because the computer system have parameter set and monitor all the maintenance service via driving habits, dates, and km. It would set the maintenance minder if it needs service.
@@Cargorage Thanks! does idling your car for hours like 2 hrs do bad to your engine oil?
I don't think it would not cause any issue at all.
@@jlrt036 it does effect the car a bit it’s not supposed be just idling for long periods of time but nothing crazy
At what mileage do you insist on changing the oil for the 1st time
Hello
Maintenance minder would come on at 15% to warn you. Or every 8000km or every 6months.
Cheerz
I don’t like the dipstick. Very hard to read. Mine took 4.8 qts & the dipstick was between the 2 holes
I know right, the old steel was already good enough. Slighty put more, so the oil is at the full level.
@@Cargorage if I did that then it would be the full 5 quarts. Think that’s ok?
👍
Do I have to change the filter each time? If not how often do I have to change it?
Filter change everytime you do this service sir. And its every 8000 km.
How would I jack this up at home ? Don’t have a fancy lift
Get yourself a hydraulic jack and 2 jackstand then find the jacking points in the service manual, jack it up and set the jackstand then drop it to the stand and then way you go.
Cheerz
Good 👍
Thank you brother
Youre welcome brother.
Now that is some dirty oil. You put the plug in when the oil was still draining.
When is the right time to change the oil? Is it every three months or when it hits 1500 miles?
The maintenance minder will show up on your dash at 15%. Telling you to do the service before it goes 0%. The interval depends on your driving habit. The car can monitor that and warn you at 15%, allright.
GL
Way more than that 5000 miles
You should always start the car and let it idle for a minute after the oil change so the filter fills up. Then re-check oil level and top off. You put the belly pan on before checking for leaks. You didn’t let the oil drain completely out. It was still dribbling out. Sloppy job.
Technically speaking yes, start the car for seconds (not minute) and recheck oil level. I know the capacity already as i've been doing this for years and years so i didn't have to recheck. And yes the oil was still dribbling out, i know. In the shop we don't wait until its completely dried up lol. At home doing it in my car, i wait a bit longer. So yeahh.
Thanks for watching.
@@Cargorage So, you do it the correct way on YOUR car at home, but you do it the lazy way with customers cars to get the car out of the shop faster??? You shouldn’t post videos of you doing sub-standard work. If it was my car, and you left dirty oil in the pan and didn’t check for leaks prior to putting the belly pan on, I’d be pissed off and never come to your shop again. Also, if you’re going to post an instructional video, do it the correct way. Start the car, check for leaks, turn car off, check level, top off, put belly pan on.
Theres no shop that would wait until all the oil is drained. Thats just the reality. Yes im posting an instructional video (guide), if it helps you out good, if its not thorough for you then don't watch it and just go find another video. There's thousands of other video out there. Cheerz man. Have urself a good day.
@@Cargorage My mechanic lets every drop drain out. And I watch him do it, so I know he’s doing it correctly.
@@BW-kv9wj uh huh good for you then.
What wholesale oil does your shop use?
Hello
Im not sure but the tank thats comes to fill our tank have a sticker on it saying petro canada.
@@Cargorage Hopefully it's their Supreme synthetic line. I would assume it is since you put 0W-20 in the car.
@@mattf2535 oh yes 100%
This civic already has problems stacking up. Buyer beware
Ohh really , i did'nt know. Like what? Can you name a few.
Have had this car for 4 months havent had a single problem
Yeah i haven't seen any problem either 🙂
@@Cargorage I know others may have their own list. But mine include brake booster failure and excessive moisture accumulation in headlight assembly unit. The brake booster issue was right off the showroom floor. Tech said the issue came from the factory. My wife loves the way it drives but unhappy about the issues.
Im sorry to hear that, ive never seen any problem come in the shop so far.
Part number for the bottom shield cover?
Sorry i dont know, thats something to get at the dealership.
Torque the bolt to 30 ft. Lbs as it is safer. Also remixing and installing manually the 4 screws is better. Cover is a little PIA, but necessary
Such an amazing video. Will definitely be coming back to check it out when I get my Civic.
2 Questions
1. What's the torque spec for the oil drain plug?
2. How can you tell on the dipstick if the oil is full? On most cars the oil needs to be between the 2 holes, but it wasn't and you said it was okay
Thanks i appreciate.
The torque spec for the drain bolt plug is 30ftlbs.
There are 2 holes in the dipstick, so the upper holes is the maximum level, when i added 4.3L it was just slightly above the upper hole so to compensate the oil that goes in the oil filter.
And when u start the car for a few seconds and turn it off. Then go check the level again, and it should just be on maximum level point.
Allright cheerz!
I have been doing my oil change for a very long time. On my daughter 2022 Honda Civic 2022 Touring It took over 4 hours. All but one Phillip screws came off without a hitch. It just kept on turning and turning. Finally, I had my daughter hold the undercover up while I turn the screw. It finally pop loose. Working on this problem took over 2 hours. The next problem was the oil filter. I was able to remove it without any problems. The replacement filter took a long time to screw on. I thought maybe I bought the wrong one. So, I tried to screw back the original filter back, that also wasn't going in. Eventually the one I bought was screwed on.
Great video. What is the recommended oil change interval for this 2022 Civic?
Thanks.
Every 8k or 6months interval
What kind of oil did you use?
The oil specification is 0w20 engine oil.
@@Cargorage But what brand?
Whatever brand u locally have there, the brand i used is Castrol.
Mobile 1 is good too.
Cheerz
Thanks for a very thorough video. You definitely deserve a follow from me. Please keep them coming.
Thank you 🙏
how often do these new civics need an oil change? at what milage? thanks.
Its every 8k km or just when maintenance minder reach 15% on the dash.
What oil weight do you recommend for this? i know it says 0w20 on the oil cap but i live in the Caribbean, all other cars ive had i use 10w30 but this is my first newer vehicle
Just follow the manufacture spec 0w20. 👌
30 ft/lb for the drain bolt.
whats the size or part number for the drain plug washer
I think its a 14mm
Great video! Very informative. Subscribed! What is that sprayer you used to clean the engine?
It's a brake cleaner.
Thank you kabayan I can use this video soon I just got my 22 civic touring sport last week.
Youre welcome kabayan
what is the washer size for the 2.0l civic?? can I buy it anywhere other than honda dealers?
Its a 13.88-14mm inside diameter
U can use toyota, mitsubishi etc except subaru
After how many miles do you recommend doing the first oil change in a new car?
4900miles or 8000km or whenever the maintenance minder comes on @ 15%
Wats the best way to jack up and put on Jack stands?
You can find the tow hook on both sides front of the vehicle. Jack it up there and place jackstand on the lift points. Cheerz GL.
Shouldnt the oil be up to the 2nd line on the dipstick?
Yes thats right! But thats after you start the engine to circulate the oil. The oil filter will be filled with oil when you start the engine.
I put a little bit pass the top line to compensate for the oil filter.
How to check oil level and radiator water level ?
I demonstrated in the video to check the oil level on the dipstick. And for the coolant level, you would need a light to shine the coolant reservoir to really see where the level is. There is markings on the coolant reaervoir that indicates Full & Min
What did you spray to clean the oil off from under the car?
That would be a brake cleaner sir.

Honda oil filter part #?

Good video, but you should pre-fill the filter as to now cause any harm on first start.
No big harm at all on this engine but on bigger diesel engine that is. I would prefill the filter if i was doing it in a bigger diesel engine, but not on this typical engine.
What about engines with oil filter being upside down or horizontal to the ground? Are they just destined to fail prematurely because you cannot fill the filter first?
@@randyheckman3733 yup

Hey so I got my things for my oil change there’s a little ring that came with it where does that go ?
If your're referring to the drain plug washer ( shape aluminum circle?) , it goes on to the drain plug (remove the old one) and tightened it at torque spec
@@Cargorage yes I was referring to the little thing thx do I need to torque the drain plug and anything else ? With a torque wrench wanna torque it right so it’s not over torqued or under torqued
U should be good @ 21-26 ft lbs go in between
Nice! Kabayan more 2022 civic content please! Just got mine 2 days ago!
Salamat kabayan!🌝 yes
I'll make more on the way.
Can I reuse the drain plug washers? First time doing oil change
Service manual would say replace everytime. I always replace it but when i have no access to new ones ill reuse the old one.
So, yes you can if u dont have a new washers. But make sure to have one on your next many oil changes. 😉
@@Cargorage what size washer did u use??
@@adamreyes4170 Its a 13.88-14mm inside diameter

Nice looks fairly easy. do you happen to know the interval change on the cvt fluid ? I could find it in the manual lol
Every 48k sir 👍
@@Cargorage thanks my good man appreciate it 👌
@@Cargorage 48k miles or km?
@@floridaman964 48k in km or just wait till it comes on the dash, it will say #3 (sub3) means needs transmission fluid service. If its my car ill do it at 48-50k, i like to keep the fluids clean and fresh.
Thanks for commenting
The only other thing the manual mentions is to "have this done at a Honda service center", although I've seen a few RUclips channels describe the process and it's...odd. The big takeaway is to use the Honda-branded fluid, drain and measure the old and replace with precisely then new.
What oil filter part number did you use? Thanks
15400-PLM-A02 thats the oem honda oil filter, other brand like Fram is PH7317 you can use too
Good to see I will be able to change my oil without too much hassle. Thanks for the video.
Your welcome.. appreciate u commenting
Been awhile since I changed my on oil myself because I used to think that just taking it somewhere was not much more expensive and less of a mess but I’m not paying 70$ again for an oil change when the video you made is this simple. Great video !
Thank you 🙏

I bought honda civic in 2018. I will never buy Honda again in my life. I will never recommend to buy Honda ...
🙃
It is because of oil dilution problem... Honda says software update will solve it but I didn't see it working........
Ok 👌
@@hiddentruth4310 maybe its because you had a turbo?
The 2.0 liter non turbo model does not have oil dilution issues
